"Top Five For the Xbox 360"
There have been many great games released for the Xbox 360; Gears of War, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, Rainbow Six Vegas, Call of Duty 3 and now BioShock. BioShock now has a place in my Xbox 360 Top Five. I imagine it will hold that title for awhile, and soon be in the company of 360 hopefuls Assasin's Creed, Halo 3, and Call of Duty 4.
BioShock story is so indepth and creative, it could be a movie. With some eventful plot twists and unique characters it creates a wonderful atmosphere for the player. The main character starts in an airplane in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, the airplane crashes for unknown reasons at first, and then the player finds a lighthouse with a mini-sub that takes the player to Rapture, Andrew Ryan's dream that came to life. From there one will meet many charcters and enemies that will all have a part in the game's story. The player can also change the story somewhat, depending on some choices they make throughout the game. A good amount of the story is told through audio recordings that the citizens of Rapture, the underwater utopia, have created. This unique way of storytelling is quite interesting and addictive. Players will enjoy hunting for these tapes.
In addition to a great story BioShock is just plain fun. With three types of ammo for each gun, and guns that range from pistols to grenade launchers BioShock's offers a lot of fun for players. While conventional weapons are always great, BioShock offers powers called plasmids. Plasmids are recharged by syringes filled with EVE, that the player injects into themselves. With plasmids you can freeze, shock, light on fire, and even turn enemies against each other. One of the best combat strategies is to hit the enemy with a plasmid and then blow them away with your trusty gun.
The only thing that stops BioShock from achieving a 10/10 here is that the game is without a musical score, which for me is a dissapointment. However, the sound of water, the sound of guns, the voice acting, and everything else is superb.
BioShock is basically the Xbox 360's best looking game, the water especially is stunning. Throughout the game one numerous leaks and places where the city is flooding and these spots really add to the atomosphere of the game. The player feels like they are really in an underwater city that is being punished by the incredible force of the ocean.
Replay Value: 9/10
Though BioShock has no multiplayer, its replay is wonderful. There are two endings and an endless amount of ways to play out the game. Players will play through at least twice, possibly even a third time.
BioShock is truly a stunning game and deserves to be on any 360 gamer's shelf whether they are casual or hardcore. BioShock is a game that delivers on every front from its graphics to its amazing story. It will challenge the holiday's best releases for the Game of the Year Award, and honestly I will not be suprised if takes gaming's best prize.
