"Gone Modern? It's about time!"
Anyone who follows the Call of Duty series / franchise knows that all of the previous games, have been set in the World War II settings. However Call of Duty 4, has gone Modern.
The Modern Warfare version of Call of Duty has raised the bar for the franchise, as well as first person shooters in general, the addition of an incredible new Engine - which in return gives great graphics! On-line, and offline. Very rarely, if ever do I see the graphics skip, or look unrealistic.
One of the greatest things about going Modern, is the fact of all the new weapons that have been given to this game. Over 30 weapons, and over 30 Perks to go along with them. In order to receive or achieve any of these weapons, you must play On-line (which requires X-Box Live). But that's where the REAL replay value of this game comes in. Each level is great. This game isn't a game for snipers, or a game for people who are aggressive. It's a game for everyone.
The fact that you can have up to 5 custom classes so you can have a weapon or class, for a specific game-type, or map if you so please allows for one of the best multi-player games I've ever played. After purchasing this game - there is also new maps in which that can be downloaded, including larger, and smaller maps for anyone's type of game play.
I highly suggest this game for anyone who is interested in on-line play, and enjoyed the Call of Duty series, or if you're interested in starting your first person shooter experience...This is the game to buy.
If you're one of those people who prefer to play offline. Or you like playing a game for it's Campaign, and not the community. Then this game might not be the best way to go.
Granted, this game has a GREAT campaign, and a great story line. But if you play on Normal, or any difficulty lower, you will blaze through the campaign in less then four hours time. It's a very addicting game and campaign, so it's very easy to lose track of time, and be the entire game in one sitting.
However, if you play this game on Veteran difficulty ( the hardest) - the game takes on a whole new meaning. The AI in this game, is in incredibly accurate with their grenades. Not to mention, they also have an unlimited stock pile of them. So don't "wait it out" - and hope they will stop. They won't. In this sort of Campaign, you need to reach the checkpoints in order to advance your game. This is not the type of game where you can take your time, and let your Friendly AI kill the enemy. The enemies WILL re spawn, until the check point is reached.
This gives the game a whole new meaning. I'd suggest playing this game on Normal, to enjoy the campaign. Then later go through on Veteran, to completely decimate all!
All in all, this is a great game to buy. Easily setting the First Person Shooter bar, way way up there.
