Might just be your disk or your disk reader. Best guess is to just bring your copy back and replace it. To replace it should be 100% free so its always worth trying.

Try clearing your caches:

System Blade, Memory, Hard Drive, Press Y for Device Options, Cache Clear Button (Using this method will delete ALL game updates and Temporary Files off your system so you'll have to re-download the updates before you can play your games again) This Method was introduced with the August 11th Dashboard Update.

OR

System Blade, Memory, Hard Drive, X-X-LB-RB-X-X (Using this method will delete ALL game updates and Temporary Files off your system so you'll have to re-download the updates before you can play your games again) (Only Use if you DON'T have the August 11th 2009 update)

OR

Hold The LB, RB and X buttons while the GAME is loading from the Dashboard and hold until you see the 2nd Bethesda Splash screen (Using this method will delete ALL the FO3 Temporary Files off your system so Saving and Loading will take longer until the files are re-cached)

Fallout 3 in General and MZ In particular are very buggy and Mothership Zeta does have bug relating to waiting for more than a 2hrs at time which can and does cause the game to crash.

Also make sure you have the 1.5.0.23 update installed.

I've had rare occurances of the crashing bug as well but it's never on the loading screen...always when I'm firing the A3-21's Plasma Rifle. Seems to only do it when I've left the system on for awhile, playing for extended periods. I always play the game off the hard drive so disk problems don't occur. [[ I have a nephew that just refuses to put disks away lol ]]

The expansions in general seem to be the most prone to it from what I've noticed. Otherwise a great game.
