* III. The Story *

Long ago, before history began, ancient deities vied for control of the world.
The Archfiend, born from the very essence of hatred, rose above the fray and
threatened complete domination.

All seemed hopeless, until the Dragons emerged.  Rising from the virgin earth,
these ferocious creatures waged war on the Archfiends.  After countless
battles, the Dragons defeated the Archfiends and drove them deep into the
ground, locking them away forever.

The scars of these battles have long since healed and the Dragons have faded
into the mists of time, but their legacy lives on. Among the strongest of
mankind, Dragons' blood courses through their veins.  Members of this
bloodline, the Dragon Lineage, have vowed to stay vigilant and protect our
world from the threat of the Archfiends.

As the modern descendents of the Dragon Lineage, the Hayabusa Ninja Clan still
upholds their ancient oath.  Their village, hidden among the mountains of
Japan, guards many precious artifacts vital in the war against evil.

Above all else, the Hayabusa Ninja Clan treasures the Dragon Sword.  Carved
from the fang of a Dragon, this sword hungers for the blood of Fiends, and the
Dragon Lineage has always kept it well fed.  Passed down through the eons to 
the current heir, the Dragon Sword now rests in the grip of the young but
deadly Ninja, Ryu Hayabusa.  It is considered one of the most powerful weapons
in existence, but its true strength now lies dormant, waiting to be reunited
with the legendary Eye of the Dragon.

Hayabusa Village’s most dangerous and dreaded artifact, however, is the Demon
Statue.  Though the details are lost to legend, the Demon Statue helped seal
one of the Archfiends within his earthly prison and banished his four Greater
Fiends to eternal slumber.  For this reason the Hayabusa Ninja Clan guards the
statue with their lives.  They do not dare to imagine the hell unleashed if the
Demon Statue ever fell into the wrong hands...

Master Ninja, Heir to the Dragon Lineage, and current owner of the Dragon 
Sword,  Ryu Hayabusa has spent his entire life training for and fighting 
against the fiends.  His first major war ended in a decisive victory against
the fiends and the Vigoorian Empire, as well as the death of disgraced Dragon
Ninja Murai.

Sliding back into relative peace one year later, Ryu has become increasingly
suspicious of Genshin, leader of the rival Black Spider Ninja Clan.  Ryu
travels to Tokyo to check on an old friend and track one of Genshin's top
students, a ninja named Rasetsu.

An operative of the United States Central Intelligence Agency, Sonia begins
investigating the mystery surrounding a shadowy group in Japan.  The more she
investigates, the deeper she falls into the mystery of the Fiends.  Curious and
wanting to find out more, she travels to Japan to seek out Muramasa.  She
believes Muramasa is the accomplice of a man named Ryu Hayabusa, a name that
keeps cropping up in her investigation.

Muramasa is back and selling goods and wares at highly inflated prices at
stands all around the world!  Muramasa is also a skilled blacksmith who loves
to tinker with old weapons and make them new again.  The Dragon Clan and
Muramasa have always had close ties.  It's been rumored that, in his younger
days, Muramasa was a skilled swordsman.

Master Ninja Genshin, Leader of the Black Spider Ninja Clan has a singular
purpose in life: The complete and utter destruction of the Dragon Ninja Clan.
His frustration is borne of his inability to top his rivals, and his
frustration is what drives him.  He speaks one day to a strange woman who
promises to help him achieve his goal, if he'll help her achieve hers.

A shadowy and mostly hidden figure, not much is known about Elizebet.  She
seeks out a warrior from Japan known as Genshin and asks for his help with an
unknown goal.

* V. Weapons *
**************

All weapon has 3 level, save for the Dragon Sword and the Tiger's Claw and
Dragon's Fang, which have four.  Upgrading each weapon unlocks a new moveset,
and the weapon gets a little more powerful.  Each weapon is given a rating in
three categories: Range, Speed and Recovery, and Damage.  The ratings are a
number 1 through 5, and mean different things for different categories:

Range: 1 (close) to 5 (far)
Speed and Recovery: 1 (slow) to 5 (fast)
Damage: 1 (light) to 5 (heavy)

~The Dragon Sword/True Dragon Sword~

The Dragon Sword is an old friend to Ryu, the weapon he feels most comfortable
with.  In his hand or on his back through minor skirmishes and major battles
alike, The Dragon Sword has never failed Ryu and Ryu has never failed it.

The Dragon Sword is, by far, the most balanced weapon in the game.  It deals
good damage, has a fairly quick recovery time, and descent range.  The Dragon
Sword also has the best moveset in the game, if you upgrade it.  You don't have
to, however.  The Dragon Sword will automatically upgrade to level 4 when you
get the Eye of the Dragon.  Plus, once you upgrade it to the True Dragon Sword,
it gets stupid powerful. =)

VIGOORIAN FLAILS

The Viggy Flails make a return from Ninja Gaiden.  They're found late in the 
game, have almost no range to speak of, but they do a moderate amount of
damage.  The two major upsides are that Ryu whips them around his body so fast
that the Flails provide a back guard in case enemies are sneaking up on you.
On the same hand, because Ryu is so fast with them, they can do a massive
amount of damage in no time flat.  Give them a try.

The tonfas are found midway through the game.  Quick and moderately powerful,
their weakness is their range.  You have to be almost on top of enemies to deal
damage.  They're still a good weapon to play with, as the tonfas can dispatch
certain enemies with ease.

~Eclipse Scythe~

Damage: 5  

They Scythe is easily the most powerful of the regular weapons in the game, and
a good deal of players will swear by it.  The drawback is that, due to the
Scythe's incredible heft, it's slow and tends to leave Ryu open if he misses a
combo.  For that reason, I honestly believe the Scythe is better left alone

~Dragon's Claw and Tiger's Fang/Upgrade~

The Dragon's Claw and Tiger's Fang is my favorite weapon, hands down.  Found
early in the game, these swords are bruisers, dealing excellent damage.  The
DCTF has about the same range and speed/recovery as the Dragon Sword, and its
combos do about 1.5x more damage.  The downside is that enemies seem to have an
easier time breaking Ryu's guard.

The Kusari-gama is a sickle on a chain with a weight on the other end.  Think

The Falcon's Talons are the up close and personal, I-can-smell-what-you-ate-
for-breakfast weapons.  Aside from that, they're a great deal of fun to use.
The Hayabusa Talons are strong enough to use on most of the early enemies, and
it's extremely easy to pull off long combos with little chance of being hit in
the back.  They're also blazing fast, due to the fact that the Talons are
basically Ryu using unarmed combat.

~Lunar Staff~

The Lunar is back.  Originally hailing from the Ninja Gaiden Hurricane Pack,
the staff's look has changed some, but it still remains and excellent weapon.
Like the Viggy Flails, Ryu whips the Lunar around his body providing some back
guard.  The Lunar does have a tendency to get caught up in long combos,
allowing enemies to sneak up behind Ryu and tear his head off.  Also, some of
combos move Ryu fairly close to enemies, allowing them to reach out and grab
him.

~Shurikens~

Your basic Ninja throwing stars.  Great for adding a cheap set of 4 hits to
each combo, per use, and interrupting those pesky enemies who won't stop
throwing things at you.  Ryu has an unlimited supply.  I don't want to know
where he stores them...


~Incendiary Shurikens~

Yay for things that go boom!  Incendiary Shurikens deal some nice damage, both
to regular enemies and certain bosses.  They're obtained midway through the
game and are required to open up new paths.  The incendiary Shurikens can be
charged by holding down the A button, causing Ryu to whip 2 or 3 Shurikens.
You can absorb essence to charge faster.  Ryu can carry 30 at a clip.


~The Fiends Bane Bow~

Ryu’s trusty bow and arrow has been (mercifully) simplified for it's return to
Ninja Gaiden 2.  Instead of having to manually aim at each enemy, if you point
the bow in their general direction, it automatically snaps onto them.  It also
has two levels of zoom for those fine adjustments to your aim.  Like the
incendiary shrurikens, the bow can also be charged and absorbs essence.  Ryu
can carry 30 arrows at a clip


~Gatling Spear Gun~

Obtained fairly early, the spear gun is a great weapon in water.  It refuses
to work out of water, though.  Ryu has an unlimited supply of spears.  Again,
where is he hiding them?


~Windmill Shuriken~

An old weapon of the Hayabusa Ninja Clan, the Windmill shuriken is a boomerang
type weapon that returns to the thrower.  It deals some excellent damage.  Ryu
gets it extremely late in the game, though.  Like the bow and the incendiary
Shurikens, Ryu can charge the Windmill shuriken and absorb essence.

* VII. Ninpo *
**************

Ninpo are, in this game, a form of magic that Ryu can use.  You gain the
ability to cast Ninpo three times.  You can get an item that will allow you to
add two more Ninpo slots.  Each Ninpo can be leveled up twice using another
item.


~Art of the Inferno~

Ryu summons his Ki in the form of fire that surrounds his body and sets enemies
on fire, as well as targeting one enemy.  As it's level increases, Ryu can
target more enemies and send out more fireballs. 
 

~Art of the Wind Blades~

Ryu harnesses the power of air and uses it to cleave his enemies apart.  This 
is great for when you're surrounded by a pack of enemies.  Leveling this Ninpo
up gives it greater range.


~Art of the Flame Phoenix~

Ryu transforms his Ki into flaming phoenix heads that circle around him,
protecting him.  For each level, more heads circle around you.


~Art of the Piercing Void~

Ryu gets in touch with his dark side and summons the power of the underworld,
sending a ball of black energy out.  As you level up, the ball gets more
powerful.

* VIII. Items and Essence *
***************************

Items

Muramasa's back, he still operates out of stands, and he's still a freaking
money grubbing slum lord.  He accepts yellow essence as payment.  Even though
Muramasa's prices are pretty steep, yellow essence is easy to earn in this
game.  Just kill everything in sight.  You should have more than enough to
upgrade all your weapons to level 3 by the end of the game.  Also, if you miss
a key item in the level, like the Life of the Gods of the  Jewel of the Demon
Seal, you can buy that from him.  But, since you're using this guide, that's
not going to be a problem.

Item: Herb of Spiritual Life 
Cost: 2000
Effect: The Herb of Spiritual Life are painfully common and restore a small
        amount of Ryu's health.  He can carry 3 at a time.

Item: Grains of Spiritual Life
Cost: 4000
Effect: The Grains are much less common and restore a large amount of health.
        Ryu can carry 3 of these at a time.

Item: Devil Way Mushroom
Cost: 3000
Effect: The Devil Way Mushroom is only slightly less common than the Herb of
        Spiritual Life and restores 1 Ki on Ryu's Ki meter.  Ryu can hold 3 at
        a time.

Item: Talisman of Rebirth (20,000)
Cost: 20,000
Effect: The Talisman of Rebirth brings Ryu back to life when he's killed,
        fully restoring his health, healing all his non-healable damage, and
        filling his Ki Meter.  Unlike the original game though, Ryu has to
        equip it in the pause menu. Also unlike the original game, Ryu can only
        carry one at a time.

Item: Lives of the Thousand Gods
Cost: Who cares?
Effect: Nine of these are scattered throughout Ninja Gaiden 2, and they will
        increase Ryu's life bar by a small amount.  They also restore Ryu's
        health and heal all of his non-healable damage.  You can buy these from
        the Slum Lord if you miss it in a level, but that shouldn't really
        matter for you.

Item: Life of the Gods
Cost: Who cares?
Effect: There are eighteen of these in the game.  Unlike the Lives of the
        Thousand Gods, you have to collect nine before you can increase your
        life bar.  The Life of the Gods still allows you to restore your health
        and heal all your non-healable damage.  You can buy these from Muramasa
        if you miss them.

Item: Spirit of the Demon
Cost: Who Cares?
Effect: The Spirit of the Demon allows you to increase your Ki meter by one.
        They also refill Ryu's Ki meter.  Alas, there are only two of these in
        the game.  You can buy these from Muramasa if you miss them.

Item: Jewel of the Demon Seal
Cost: Who cares?
Effect: The Jewel increases the power of one of Ryu's Ninpo attacks.  There are
        eight of these in the game, enough to max out all your Ninpo.  You can
        buy these from Muramasa if you miss them at a highly inflated price.
        Vaseline not included.

Item: Weapon Upgrade-Level Two
Cost: 10,000
Effect: Upgrades your weapon to level two, making it stronger and unlocking a
        new moveset.

Item: Weapon Upgrade-Level Three
Cost: 20,000
Effect: Maxes your weapon out at level three, making it stronger and unlocking
        a new moveset.


~Essence~

Essence is dropped by every single enemy, resides in some chests, and can
occasionally be found by smashing random things.  There are three types; red,
blue, and gold.  Red essence restores your Ki.  Blue essence restores your
health, and if your health is full, it will also heal your non-healable damage.
Gold essence is... well... gold.  

Muramasa accepts the souls of your vanquished enemies as payment.  Muramasa is
apparently Shang Tsung.  There's a very essence elaborate system in Ninja
Gaiden 2, but is still simplified.  There's no timer in NG2.  Each enemy gives
a base amount of karma which is then increased in amounts as outlined in the
table below.  Your karma score is then converted into essence.

Combo= 100 points/hit
Enemies Killed= 1000/enemy
Charged Technique= 2000 points
Killing Spree= 3000 points (Killing two or more enemies without being touched)
Instant Kill= 3000 points
Obliteration= 3000 points
Ultimate Technique= 5000 points

The nice thing about this system is that it's easy to get a lot of gold essence
quick.  The more enemies you kill, the more Ultimate Techniques you use, and
the more enemies you kill, the more gold essence you get.


~Crystal Skull~

Crystal Skulls are not -ARE NOT- the Golden Scarabs from NG.  There is NO
in-game reward for getting them.  The only things you get are achievements and
a Gamer Pic.  There are 30 of them in the game, scattered through the first 11
chapters, as well as a giant crystal skull in the second to last level.  You
can only get that skull if you find all the others.  Like the 30 crystal skulls
before, the giant crystal skull does bumble squat in the game.

* IX. Game play Basics, Tips, and Tricks *
******************************************

~Saving~

There are several Earth Dragon statues scattered throughout the game that save
your progress and heal your non-healable damage.  There are two options for
saving in Ninja Gaiden 2, automatic and manual.  Automatic saving gives you one
save slot, and your game just saves in the same slot, overwriting all your
progress.  Manual saving gives you 20 save slots, so you don't have to
overwrite your progress.  This is good in case you miss something and want to
go back and get it or you want to replay a certain section of the game.  With
manual saving, you have to use the save statue twice.  The first time heals
you, and the second time allows you to save your game.  The default is
automatic saving, and I would STRONGLY recommend that you change saving to
manual.  It's in the options menu when you start the game. 


~Ultimate Technique and Obliteration Technique~

The Ultimate Technique is preformed by holding down the X button until Ryu
starts to glow.  When you let go, Ryu will seek out the nearest enemy and
utterly destroy them.  Occasionally, Ryu will seek out another enemy and
continue the combo.  UTs are great for upping your gold essence.

The Obliteration Technique takes advantage of the new damage system in the
game.  Enemies will pursue you no matter what, regardless of how many limbs
they loose.  The Obliteration Technique allows you to cut enemies in half, or
chop of their head, etc.  If you find yourself stuck in a crowd, do not, under
any circumstances, use the Obliteration Technique.  It only kills one enemy and
leaves Ryu wide open while the camera readjusts. 


~Blocking, Reverse Wind Technique, and Counter Attacks~

Blocking is the key to Ryu's survival.  You simply can't win with offence
alone.  But you can't just sit there and block all day, either.  There are
several enemies that can break Ryu's guard, casing him to stagger backwards.
There are several more who will just grab Ryu and pummel him if you block.  The
Reverse Wind Technique allows Ryu to dash away from an enemy.  Hold block and
tap the left thumbstick in any direction.  The Counter Attack allows Ryu to
block an enemies attack, then use one of his own.  Hold block and press Y or X.
You need to time this, because if Ryu misses, he'll flick his weapon up and be
wide open to attack.


~Chest Contents~

When you're maxed out on certain items (Herb of Spiritual Life, Grains of
Spiritual Life, Devil Way Mushroom, and Talisman of Rebirth), a chest that
contains these items will give you essence instead.


~Blood Flick~

After Ryu kills all the enemies in the area or moves too far away from them, he
will flick the blood off of his weapon and his health with restore.  His non-
healable damage, however, will not be healed.


~Item Conservation~

Certain items in the game will heal your non-healable damage.  Nine Life of the
Gods, a Lives of the Thousand Gods, and an item that Muramasa gives you late in
the game.  Another item, the Spirit of the Demon, refills Ryu's Ki Meter.  And
the Talisman of Rebirth does both.  It's important to save these items until
you need them.  A difficult section in the game, a Test of Valor, a boss you
don't want to loose against, and the like.


~The Tests of Valor~

The Tests of Valor are like the 100 Fiend challenges from Ninja Gaiden.  There
are nine of them in the game, starting in Chapter 3 and ending in Chapter 11.
It's you, alone in a room, and facing down a plethora of enemies.  After you
complete a Test of Valor, Ryu's health bar fills, as does his Ki meter, and all
of his non-healable damage heals.  The prize for winning is a Lives of the
Thousand Gods (3 times), Jewel of the Demon Seal (3 times), or a Talisman of
Rebirth (2 times).  The mathematically inclined among you will note that
3+3+2=8, not 9.  That's because one Test of Valor gives you... essence!  You
also get Achievements for completing the Tests of Valor.


~Healable and Non-healable Damage~

As Ryu's takes damage throughout the game, the blue portion of his life bar
decreases.  Depending on the enemy and how much damage they do, the right side
of your health bar will start to turn red.  The red portion of your health bar
is non-healable damage.  The black (empty) portion of your health bar is
healable damage.  When you clear an area and do the blood flick, your health
bar will fill back up to the red.  You can heal non-healable damage by using
any healing item, any item that increases your health

* X. Walkthrough *
******************

NOTE:  Walkthroughs, by their nature, are spoiler filled to the hilt.
It was my intent to write this guide on the assumption that you, the player,
are playing the game for the first time and like to be surprised.  I've done my
best throughout this guide to make sure that all major plot points,
characters, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera are kept hidden until you reach
that particular section.

NOTE:  This walkthrough can be used for any difficulty, but the chest contents
assume that you're playing on Acolyte.

Chapter 1: Sky City Tokyo

Special agent Sonia appears at the door of the tiny shop run by master 
swordsmith Muramasa amidst the skyscrapers of Tokyo. She inquires after the 
Ninja Ryu Hayabusa, his whereabouts a mystery. She brings news of a terrible 
danger facing the world, bearing a message that must reach Hayabusa at any
cost. As night falls, the evil Black Spider Ninja Clan emerges from the shadows
to infest the streets of the unsuspecting city.

Start to 1st Save Point
New Enemies: Katana Black Spider Clan Ninja, Twin Black Katana Spider Clan
Ninja, Claws Black Spider Clan Ninja (here after referred to as ninjas or
melee ninjas)

You start out after the cut scene surrounded by your basic melee Spider Clan
Ninjas.  Take a moment to get use to the controls, the Dragon Sword, and make
sure not to get your ass handed to you in the process.  A good combo to use is
X Y B, then press and hold Y just as Ryu hits the ground to charge up and do an
Ultimate Technique.  Defeat all your enemies and poke your head into Muramasa's
Shop.

After the cutscene, turn around and head behind you, then turn right to find
the first save point

Save Point 1 to Save Point 2

Head back the way you came, past Muramasa's shop, and head down the stairs.  
More BSC Ninjas will attack you.  Kill them and kick the chest next to the door
to get the Reverse Wind Technique Scroll.  Open the door and head inside.

Turn left to face down some more melee Ninjas.  Dispatch them and kick open the
chest for some blue essence.  Continue down the path, stopping at the pit.
Pelt the ninjas with Shurikens, then attack them once they reach your side.
After you finish with them, jump down into the pit and open the chest to get
the Technique of Shadowless Footsteps scroll (the Wall Run).  Use the ladder to
get out of the pit and wall run over it.

Round the corner, and more ninjas will attack you.  Defeat them and open the
chest across from you to get the Furious Wind Technique Scroll.  Head into the
big room and kick the chest there to get your first Ninpo, the Art of the
Inferno.  Head out onto the balcony.

See that little glimmer?  Get on the far right side of the balcony, then run
and jump to get CRYSTAL SKULL #1.  Drop down into the area below to be attacked
by even more ninjas.  Smash the pots in the background for some free gold
essence, then kick the chest open for red essence.  Climb up the ladder if you
missed the crystal skull and a lone ninja will attack you when you fall back
down.  When you've done everything there is to do, head up the stairs.

At the top of the stairs, you'll be attacked by another force of ninjas.  Shock
of all shocks.  Kill them and kick open the chest for a LIVES OF THE THOUSAND
GODS #1.  Head up the stairs and open the chest for a Herb of Spiritual Life.
Kick down the door and mosey on through.

You'll be set upon by a pair of ninjas.  Let them come over the pit to you and
unload on them.  Don't bother falling down the pit; there's nothing there.
Instead, wall run over the pit, head up the stairs and wait for the ninjas to
come to you.  Kill them, then leap to the metal bar on the left side of the
pit.  Ryu will grab it and start swinging.  Press the jump button and Ryu will
leap to the other side.

Go up to the fallen ninja and collect the Obliteration Technique scroll from
him.  Kill the trio of ninjas that appear.  Grab the Flying Bird Technique
(Wall kick) from the dead ninja and save your game.

Save Point 2 to Save Point 3
New Enemy: Black Spider Clan Archers

Wall kick up the shaft next to the save point to land in a cherry blossom 
orchard.  Kill the pack of ninjas here.  Ignore the bridge for now and jump
into the water and head right.  Kill the small group of ninjas that appear and
head to your left at the T.  Jump onto the wooden ledge on the left and open
the chest for the LIFE OF THE GODS #1.  Backtrack, heading under the bridge and
climb out of the water using the stairs on your right side.

Cross over the bridge and smash the pots for some free gold essence, then turn
and wait for the ninjas to reach you.  Take care of them, and head straight,
all the way to the end of the pier.  Jump into the boat and open the chest for
a Herb of Spiritual Life.  Head back through the water, over the bridge again,
and down the pier, turning right at the end.

Step onto the stairs and stop.  A pair of ninjas will attack you.  Lure them
towards you and take care of them, then head down the stairs.  An archer will
be firing at you from the balcony.  Head down the stairs until you see a tree
on your right side.  Run up it and jump, landing on the balcony.  Kill him and
claim the CRYSTAL SKULL #2.

Jump down off the balcony and head to the bottom of the stairs.  There's a
ladder on your left side, so take it down.  A pair of ninjas will try to sneak
up behind you as you head down the path.  Kill them and ignore the ninjas above
you for now.  Take the path to the end and open the chest to get a LIFE OF THE
GODS #2.  Backtrack to the stairs and two more ninjas will attack you.  Kill
them and open the chest for some blue essence.  Now head up the ladder.

Run along the path, killing ninjas as they appear.  Make sure you wait until
they come to you.  You can use the metal bars over the pits to advance.  At the
end there's a save statue.  Save your game

Save Point 3 to Save Point 4
New Enemy: Black Spider Clan Warlocks

Head up the ladder and turn left to get a Devil Way Mushroom from the chest.
Now head right, collecting the Flying Swallow technique scroll from the ninja,
unfortunately deceased.  Head out into the open area to encounter some melee
ninjas accompanied by a new enemy: Warlocks.  Kill everything you see.  

A quick cutscene reveals the door opening.  Grab the LUNAR STAFF from the
statue.  A chest on the left has red essence.  On the right is a save statue.
Save your game.

Save Point 4 to Save Point 5
New Enemy: Bats

Head right out of this area and down the stairs.  Grab the Ultimate Technique
scroll from the body and head to the center of the bridge.  Ninjas will attack
you from both ends.  Clear the area and head across the bridge to get
Zenimaru's Notebook (Obliteration Technique).  Head over the stone bridge and
into the house, grabbing the Technique of Ultimate Guidance scroll from the
body.

Now, head over to the left wall and attack the picture.  It will fall away.
Enter the room and open the chest for a Grains of Spiritual Life.  Smash the
pots in the room to get about 750 gold essence and exit this little room.
Continue on straight from the exit and head into the courtyard.

You will be set upon by a few ninjas.  Kill them and enter the door at the far
right of the courtyard.  Kick open the chest on the right for gold essence,
then attack the walls.  Two ninja will pounce on you.  Kill them and head to
where they were hiding.  The path lead out to a small garden, where you will be
attacked by two more ninjas.  Clear the area and Muramasa's Statue will light
up.

Upgrade one of your weapons if you have the money, buy whatever you want, and
jump into the well.  A new enemy, bats, will attack you at the bottom.  Take
care of them with ease and open the door.  Grab Hikage-O's Notebook (Shadowless
Footsteps) and follow the path.  When you get to the section with the moving
wall, go down for a Devil Way Mushroom hidden in the chest.

Go back up and wall run, then continue along the path.  At the end there's a
chest with blue essence, and there's a good chance you'll need it presently.
Backtrack along the path until you see a broken section in the railing on your
left hand side.  Jump down.

Collect Hayate-maru's Notebook (Furious Wind) and head down the bath.  A
plethora of ninjas will attack you.  Use Ultimate techniques as much as
possible here, and don't hesitate to heal if you must.  Also, make sure your
Talisman of Rebirth is equipped in case you need it.  Head down the path for a
cutscene.

After you kill the three ninjas in this room, heal and save.

Save Point to Save Point 6

Kick the door down and kill the pack of ninjas in the hallway.  All the potted
plants here can be broken for gold essence.  Follow the path to the stairway
and go down for the Devil Way Mushroom.  Backtrack and go up the stairs to get
attack by another group of ninjas.  Kill them and continue up the stairs to get
the CRACKED CARD KEY.  Backtrack to where you got attacked by the ninjas on the
stairs.

Smash the pots here for some free gold essence and head right.  On your left is
a locked door.  Use the cracked key card to open it and head on in.  Grab
Mogura's Notebook (Flying Bird) and climb the ladder.  Kick flip up the
elevator shaft and get attacked the second your feet hit the ground.  Kill the
enemies here and ignore Muramasa's statue and the save point for now.  Head up
the stairs and kill the group of ninjas up here, then backtrack to Muramasa's
statue.  There's a Grains of Spiritual Life in the Chest.  Upgrade and buy
items if you want and heal/save.

Save Point 6 to Chapter Boss

Head back up the stairs to trigger a cutscene and the boss battle for this
level.

Boss: Shadow Ninja Rasetsu.
Attacks: Art of the Wind Blade, Pounce, Grab

Rasetsu is an easy first boss.  His three attacks are a different form of the
Wind Blade Ninpo (which you get later), to pounce on you and pummel you, and to
grab you if you get in to close and try to use combos on him.

Simply charge up your weapon the moment the battle starts and unload an
Ultimate attack on him when he gets near you.  Rasetsu will stagger backwards.
Use the time to charge up again and smack Rasetsu some more.  Then get in close
when he staggers and use regular combos on him until he's dead.  Easy. 

END OF CHAPTER 1


Chapter 2: The Castle of the Dragon

The shadow of the Black Spider Clan reaches Hayabusa Village. They hunt for the
Demon Statue, the key to resurrecting the Archfiend. Only Joe Hayabusa, his
body still mending from his last battle, stands between them. Genshin, leader
of the Black Spider Clan, faces his longtime rival in a fateful duel.  As the
Castle of the Dragon burns, the otherworldly Elizebet smiles coldly.  The seal
binding the Demon Statue is broken.

Start to 1st Save Point

Follow the path, killing the crow if you want.  Take Tori-no-Shin's Notebook 
(Flying Swallow), and mosey into the graveyard, killing the three melee ninjas
that attack you.  Follow the path, heading down the stairs and killing some
more melee ninjas.  At the bottom of the stairs is a Muramasa statue and a
group of melee ninjas.  Defeat them, upgrade and buy supplies, then head
through the door on your left.

A group of ninjas will attack you.  Take care of them and open the chest for
LIFE OF THE GODS #3.  Backtrack to Muramasa's statue and follow the path.  Take
Sanyodo's Notebook (Reverse Wind) from him and head to the archery range to be
attacked by more melee ninjas and an archer.  End them and examine the body for
a Herbs of Spiritual Life.

Head down the stairs to the dock.  Run across the water and kill the archer on
the other side.  Now dive back into the water to get CRYSTAL SKULL #3.  Go back
to the dock with the archer and head up the stairs.  Get the Counter Attack
scroll from the body, then heal and save.

Save Point 1 to Save Point 2

Head up the stairs and around the building.  A pair of melee ninjas will attack
you with a pair of archers for cover.  Kill them and enter the building.  The
chest on your right contains an Herb of Spiritual Life.  Head for the chest at
the end to be attacked by a pack of melee ninjas.  Kill them all and open the
chest for a Grains of Spiritual Life.  Then grab the FALCON'S TALONS from the
alcove.  Equip them if you want and exit the building.

Examine the body for Oshi-no-Jyo's Notebook (Ultimate Guidance).  This area is
an unofficial Test of Valor.  Kill all the ninjas and archers that attack you
to get the ROD OF TRIALS from the shrine.  The Rod of Trials allows you to
access the Tests of Valor starting in the next level.  Be careful not to go too
far up the stairs or you won't be able to get the rod, even if you kill all
the enemies. Your best bet is to not go any farther than halfway up the first
set.

After you've gotten the rod, backtrack and save if you want to.  Head up the
stairs and be attacked by a pair of ninjas and a pair of archers in the guard
towers.  Kill the ninjas first, then get between the guard towers and kick flip
up the towers to kill the archers.  There's an Herb of Spiritual Life in the
left tower.

Continue up the stairs, killing the archers and ninjas as you come across them.
Kill the next pack of melee ninjas at the top of the stairs and an Earth Dragon
Statue will light up.  Heal and save your game.

Save Point 2 to Save Point 3

There is a shop on the left at the top of the stairs.  Buy what you need and
head back down to the Dragon Statue.  Follow the path behind it into the
tunnel.  Two ninjas will attack you.  Not much of a challenge.  Kick flip out
of the shaft to be attack by two melees and an archer.  Kill them and head up
the stairs.  Relieve Inoshishi of his notebook (Counter Attack).

Continue up the stairs, killing whoever crosses your path.  At the top, even
more ninjas will attack you (where are all these guys coming from?!?).  There's
a chest with blue essence on the right.  Head under the arch, up the stairs,
and under a second arch.  There's a chest with Herbs of Spiritual Life on your
left.

Head up the stone steps, being attacked by a couple of melees.  A group of
melees guarded by a warlock wait for you at the top of the stairs.  Send them
to the afterlife and grab Tsunekichi's Notebook from the body under the
overhang.  On the left side of this area, there are some planks leading up to a
section of broken wall.  Run up them.

Welcome to the roof top.  A group of melees and warlocks come out to great you.
Thank them for their kind hospitality and jump down the hole.  You're in the
armory.  Kill the melees and archer here.  Use the save point at the far left
to save your game.

Save Point 3 to Save Point 4

Head over to the stairs, grabbing the FIEND'S BANE BOW from the wall on your
left and equip it.  Head up the stairs.  A short cutscene shows you a yellow
jewel.  Shoot it with the bow and head up the stairs.  Drop down to fight a
familiar and rather homely face.

Mini-Boss: Rasetsu, part 2
Attacks: Art of the Wind Blade, Pounce, Grab
Guards: Melee ninjas

Rasetsu's back, and he brought some friends.  How thoughtful.  Same strategy
still applies.  Use charged attacks on Rasetsu; he's your first priority.  The
pesky ninjas will get in your way, so use combos on them, or Ninpo if you want
to make this short and sweet.

After you defeat Rasetsu and his guards, head out the door behind you.  On the
path to your right is a chest with an Herb of Spiritual Life.  On the left is a
stairway with ninjas.  Poke around under the stairs to get a Grains of
Spiritual Life off the body.  Head up the stairs to be attacked by some melees
and archers.  Take them out, then grab some arrows if you need them and save
your game.

Save Point 4 to Save Point 5

Head up the stairs to the (seemingly) dead end and grab the Technique of
Unrivaled Soaring scroll from the body.  Break down the door to trigger another
short cutscene.  It would seem we have a need to find the jewels that go in the
displays.  Wall run along the right wall, jumping each time the wall connects
to another one.

Land, end the archer, and break down the paper doors.  Kill everything you see
and claim the VERMILION JEWEL.  Now, equip your bow and kill the two archers
across the room from you.  Break down the doors across from the Vermilion Jewel
and head through.  CRYSTAL SKULL #4 is just sitting on the shelf.  Snag it and
search the body for a Devil Way Mushroom.  The trap door drops you back by save
point 4.  Ignore it and continue around the path.  Break down the doors, kill
the melees, and take the ULTRAMARINE JEWEL.

Wall run back to where you entered this area and put the jewels on their
pedestals.  The dragon's mouth will open and the orb next to its head will
light up.  Shoot the orb with an arrow and a platform will drop down.  Jump
onto the platform and into the dragon's mouth.  On your left is a chest with a
Devil Way Mushroom.  On your right is a save point.

Save Point 5 to Save Point 6

Jump through the hole in the wall to encounter a gaggle of warlocks.  Take a
moment to appreciate the beauty of the Japanese mountains from the top of a
burning castle.  Head to your left and up the roof, heading into another hole
in the wall.

Kill the archers and melee ninjas in this room and ignore the chests for now.
Head up the stairs and kill the melees in this area.  DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR ON
THE FAR RIGHT YET!!!  Head over to the far left and snag LIFE OF THE GODS #4
off the body.  Now go back down stairs and open the chest to get LIVES OF THE
THOUSAND GODS #2.  Drop down the hole.  There's a Muramasa statue on the left
side.  Make sure one of your weapons is at level 3 and buy what you need for a
very difficult boss battle.  Backtrack past the ladder and heal/save.

Save Point 6 to Chapter Boss

Head back to the ladder and climb up.  Head up the stairs and into that room I
told you not to enter to encounter the Chapter Boss, Genshin.

Boss: Genshin, Leader of the Black Spider Ninja Clan
Attacks: Hack'n'Slash, Flying Swallow, Rush, Counter Combo

Genshin loves to attack.  He is almost totally offensive.  His has an attack
much like your own Flying Swallow.  He'll also try to rush you, getting in
close to land a big combo.  Should you try to use a combo of your own, Genshin
will counter it and tear your head off.  It won't be pretty.

Genshin is, at first glance, seemingly difficult.  He's fast, hits hard,
Shurikens don't hurt him and arrows take too much time.  Ninpo is close to
ineffective.  This is going to be a recurring modus operandi for your battles
with Genshin, so you might as well learn this strategy now.

First, for crap's sake, block at all times.  Genshin's powerful and he can 
break your guard easily, but still block.  Second, under no circumstances try
to trade blows with Genshin.  It won't end well for you.  Use the Reverse Wind
Technique to dart around and Genshin will attack you.  If he misses an attack,
he'll pause to regroup.  Get in and smack him around with a quick and powerful
3 or 4 button combo, then get the hell out of there before Genshin beats you
senseless.  Use whatever item you need to and lather, rinse, and repeat until
the cutscene.

Chapter 3: Thunderclap of Catastrophe

The graceful Alexei, one of the Four Greater Fiends, appears in the skies over 
New York, raining lightning upon the streets of the proud city. Ryu Hayabusa 
arrives in Manhattan in search of Elizebet, who escaped from Hayabusa Village 
with the Demon Statue. The Fiends have already begun transforming New York 
into a Fiend Realm. Ryu's battle begins as the thunder and laughter of the 
Greater Fiend echo throughout the city.

Start to 1st Save Point
New Enemy: Ninja Wolves

I think when they said "graceful" in the chapter intro, the word they really
wanted was "effeminate".  Anyway, this level starts off with... free essence!
Collect it and  head to your right.  There's a chest with the Herb of Spiritual
Life inside.  Collect it and ignore Muramasa for right now.  Poke around in the
upper left hand corner of where you started to encounter some bats for cheap
essence.

Head back to the right and you'll see a wolf chewing on something in the middle
of the screen.  Launch a level 2 charged arrow and get ready.  Ninja wolves
will come from all directions.  Use some strong attacks and don't be shy about
using your Ninpo.  Once they're defeated, continue to your right and open the
chest for some red essence.  Now head back to Muramasa's statue and buy and get
upgrades.

Head to the area that's opposite from the red essence chest (upper right hand
corner from where you start the level).  Enter the building and snag the scroll
from the body to acquire the ART OF THE WIND BLADES.  Follow this path until
you're attacked by some melees and an archer.  To your left is a chest with
blue essence in it.  Claim it and head up the stairs on your right.

When you get to the landing, you'll be attacked by 4 archers.  Take them out
and continue down the path to be attacked by melees and two warlocks.  After
they're retired, backtrack to the stairs and head up to get CRYSTAL SKULL #5.
Go back to where you fought the melees and warlocks to save/heal.

Save Point 1 to Save Point 2
New Enemy: Drakes

Whip out your bow and kick flip up the shaft to the left of the save statue.
A group of four warlocks will take you on, and once they're done for, a new
enemy appears: the drakes.  A level 2 charged arrow will drop them, and there's
a body with arrows stuck in it on the right side of the roof if you need more.
Your best plan of attack is to get along the left side of the building.  You
can target them one at a time from there without worrying about being caught in
fireball hell.  

Once you off them, head to the zipline on the far left side of the building.
Some archers will appear on the ledge across from you, so Robin Hood them.
Again, your best bet is to hide against the wall on the far left side next to
the zipline and pick them off one by one.  Once they're dead, take the zipline
across and drop down.  A group of ninjas will attack you, so kill them.  On the
left hand side is a save statue.  That was quick.

Save Point 2 to Save Point 3
New Enemy: Lesser Fiend

Take the path on your left and kick the chest for an Herb of Spiritual Life.
Fall down the crack in the building to be attacked by some Black Spider Clan
flunkies... er... ninjas.  On your left is a chest with another Herb of
Spiritual Life.

Head through the short ally behind the police station to get attacked by some
ninja wolves.  Again, Ultimate Techniques and Ninpo are your friends.  After
you take care of them, head into the alcove and get The Four Greater Fiends,
Part 1 Notebook.  Now exit the alcove and head to your right to trigger a
cutscene.

It just dawned on me.  There's been a new enemy between every save point.  Get
in close and let this purple monstrosity have it.  A few of his friends will
join him, so give them their medicine.  Once you clear the area, jump down the
hole.  You'll land right next to a save point.

Save Point 3 to Save Point 4
New Enemy: Mutant Bats

Head left after the save point to be attacked by lesser fiends and the
heretofore unseen enemy: Mutant bats.  Treat them like the non-mutant variety.
Turn right at the T and search the body for the JEWEL OF THE DEMON SEAL #1.  
Climb up the ladder and wall run along the left wall.  Open the chest for some
red essence.  Follow the path until you see an opening on your left side.

Jump down and open the chest for some more Herbs of Spiritual Life.  Jump to
the bottom to be attacked by some mutant bats.  Follow the path and jump into
the water.  Water run until you see the patch of land on your left.  Nick
Heijuro's Notebook (Unrivaled Soaring) and head up the stairs.  Wall run at the
top and jump to the next ledge.  Head up this ledge and wall run again, jumping
at the end of the wall to continue on to the next wall.  Open the chest at the
top for a Devil Way Mushroom.

Follow the path and you find yourself back where you started.  Wall run along
the left wall and jump to grab on to the pipe.  Launch yourself off the pipe
and wall run to land on the ledge.  You'll get attacked by mutant bats here. A
LOT of mutant bats.  Take them out and wall run along the left wall to be
attacked by two lesser fiends.  Kill them and leap down.

Grab some arrows off the dead body and head through the tunnel.  Be careful
when you hit the T because a lesser fiend will pounce on your from the right
side.  Kill him and the bats that appear and head left.  Pillage the corpse
here to get The Technique of the Invisible Path Scroll.  Use it immediately on
the right wall, then the left, then the right again to get CRYSTAL SKULL #6.
Then jump into the water and dive down for the LIFE OF THE GODS #5.  Water run
to the ledge and kick flip up.  Go back the way you came and head straight at
the T to find a save statue.

Save Point 4 to Save Point 5

Kick flip up the shaft next to the save statue and kill the bats that appear.
Wall run along the right wall to land on the ledge.  Jump up, grab the pipe,
and meander on down, stopping to grab the Herb of Spiritual Life from the chest
on your left.  Jump back over to the bar and continue on.

Some melees and an archer will accost you the second you drop down.  Deal with
them and head up the stairs.  Wall run, jump, and wall run again to land on a
ledge leading to Muramasa's statue.  Buy what you need and kick down the door
to continue on.

You find yourself in a room with giant fans and archers.  Jump down into the
pit below you to be attacked by some melees.  Kill them and climb up the
ladder.  End the archers and search the corpse to get INCINDIARY SHURIKENS.  
Throw them at the fans to stop them from spinning.  Head down the one on the
right.

Head in and go left, wall running and killing the melees and archers.  Search
the body for a Grains of Spiritual Life.  Stop the fan in this room and open
the chest for a Devil Way Mushroom.  Backtrack to the first room and go
straight, grabbing more incendiary Shurikens if you need them.

Head along the right hand ledge, winging incendiary Shurikens at the two
archers.  Once they're dead, hop down and deal with the melees.  After you
retire the melees, throw an incendiary shuriken at the fan.  Backtrack and get
some more incendiary Shurikens.  Go back to the fan you just blew out, making
sure to stay on the ledge (right side).  When you get to the giant hole, jump
over to the left ledge, then jump to the bar in front of you.  Swing and jump
through the hole and into the next area.

You fall into a deep water filled hole.  Climb up on the train and kill the
bats, then dive back into the water and swim through the hole.  Surface, get on
to dry land, and kill the bats and the ninjas.  Grab some arrows from the
corpse and save.

Save Point 5 to Save Point 6

Go into the fallen train car and kick flip your way up.  Wall run along the
first wall, then use the Flying Swallow or a similar attack to land on a ledge
with a chest full of red essence and an archer.  Kill one, open the other, turn
and nuke the other archer with an incendiary shuriken (handy little buggers,
aren't they?).  Wall run and jump up, taking car of the melee ninjas that
appear.

Follow the path and kill the melee ninjas that show up.  The path dead ends,
and you can see a lit save statue in the distance, but can't get to it.  Ignore
it for now and hop down.  Some lesser fiends will attack you.  Kill them and
head left.  Jump up the stone steps and grab Sadamichi's Notebook (Invisible
Path).  Pitch a couple of incendiary Shurikens at the archers and wait for them
to come to you if they don't die, then kill them.

Use the right wall to wall run, the leap to the left and wall run, then jump
onto the ledge.  Buy and upgrade at the Muramasa statue, and continue along the
path.  Kill the melee in close, kill the archers with incendiary Shurikens and
save your game.

Save Point 6 to Chapter Boss

Turn left at the save statue and use a wall run to get to where the archer was.
There's a glowing portal there.  Step on it and press A to begin the first Test
of Valor

Test of Valor: One of White
Enemies: Melee Ninjas, Archers and Warlocks
Prize: LIVES OF THE THOUSAND GODS #3

A nice and easy first Test of Valor.  Let the melees come to you and use lots
of Ultimate Techniques.  Once they're taken care of, chase down the warlocks.
Use a ranged weapon or worm your way in close to take care of the archers.
Simple.

Leave the Test of Valor site and backtrack to the save statue and re-save your
game.  This will be your last chance to do so before the boss.  Jump down after
the save statue to be attacked by a group of ninjas and archers.  After you
defeat them, jump onto the train car on the right side and wall run into the
train.  Exit and kill the lesser fiends.  Once they're dead, run down the
corridor a short distance to trigger the boss battle.

Boss: Train Demon
Attacks: Collide, Electrocute, Bite, Electric Ball, Small Clones, Face Shot

This boss is a pain more than it's difficult.  It will try to grab you, run
into you, bite you and scrape you against the wall, or electrocute you if you
get to close to it.  From a distance, this boss will send out little clones of
itself, shoot a ball of electricity at you, (it likes to do those two in
tandem) and shoot an electrified blue face at you.  You want to try and avoid
all of its attacks, but avoid the last one at ALL costs.  It will deal a
massive amount of damage.

To attack this... monstrosity... don't use anything but level 2 charged arrows.
Incendiary Shurikens are ineffective and melee weapons are dangerous.  Each
direct hit takes off about 10% of its health.  Use a Ninpo whenever it sends
out it's clones or a electric ball attack.  When it gets down to about 20
health left, it will crash into the ground.  Run up to any part of it and combo
away to kill it.

Chapter 4: A Captive Goddess

Alexei has transformed the Statue of Liberty into his own twisted base of 
operations. It is the source of the supernatural forces that twine through the 
city streets. As if laughing at the concept of "liberty," peals of thunder 
roar. harbingers of the threat facing civilization. The Statue must be 
reclaimed or humanity will suffer. After making his way to Liberty Island, 
Ryu's steely gaze now falls upon the Greater Fiend Alexei.

Start to 1st Save Point

There's a Muramasa statue directly to your left.  Go to it and mutant bats will
swarm you.  Kill them, buy what you want, and head down the path.  Some more
bats, then ninjas will attack you.  Terminate them with extreme prejudice and
jump down the hole.

More ninjas will attack you here.  Kill them and follow the paths twists and
turns, killing the ninjas as you go.  Behind one of the train cars is a chest
with red essence.  Continue down to encounter a large group of lesser fiends.
After they become no more, jump onto the left platform and head through up the
stairs cleverly marked "Exit" to the save point.

Save Point 1 to Save Point 2

Continue up the stairs to be attacked by some melees and some warlocks.  Defeat
them and push your way through the turnstile on the left to get an Herb of
Spiritual Life.  Then kick down the door in the middle of the room and open the
chest for another Herb of Spiritual Life.  Go through the turnstile on the left
and relieve the corpse of its arrows.  The chest at the far end holds a Devil
Way Mushroom.  Some ninjas will attack you after you open this chest.  Kill
them.  Now, see the red barrels under the exit sign?  Shoot them with a charged
arrow to make an exit for yourself.

Head up the stairs to be attacked by a pair of ninjas.  Now head up and out of
the subway.  Welcome to New York.  There's a party of ninja wolves to great
you.  Yippee.  See to them and head right around the big pile of rubble.  A
trio of warlocks appear, so deal with them and continue on.  Head straight out
of the underpass and go in between the two buildings.

A pair of ninjas will attack you.  Kill them and backtrack to the wall along
where you came in.  Wall run, jump, and wall run again to land on the fire 
escape and get CRYSTAL SKULL #7.  Drop down from the fire escape and pick up an
Herb of Spiritual Life off the body.  Exit this area and head left to find a
save/heal.

Save Point 2 to Save Point 3

Head down the path to your right to be attacked by three melee ninjas.  Kill
them and shoot a level 2 charged arrow at the barrels to reveal a chest.  
Collect the red essence and head back to the save point.  Go up the ladder and
get JEWEL OF THE DEMON SEAL #2 from the body.

Doing so will trigger an attack by drakes and lesser fiends.  Head down to the
trucks and cross over the next lane of highway, killing them and collecting the
incendiary Shurikens from the body.  Continue along the stretch of highway.  
There's a chest at the end that holds the Herbs of Spiritual Life.  Backtrack
and on your left you should see a section of guardrail that's smashed.  Jump
over, collect CRYSTAL SKULL #8, and jump down.

Make two lefts to find Muramasa's statue and a chest containing LIFE OF THE
GODS #6.  Buy what you need from Muramasa and head back to where you fell down.
Lesser fiends will attack.  Kill them and kick flip back up the shaft to the
bridge.  Kill the lesser fiends here.  Go to the far end, yank the arrows out
of the body, and head up the ladder.

You will find yourself across from a save point.  Don't use it yet.  Head left
until the drakes appear.  Kill them and open the chest to get the Grains of
Spiritual Life.  Now head back to the save statue, going just far enough to
make the drakes appear on the other side.  Kill them and jump back down the
ladder to refill your arrows.  Now head back up and save.

Save Point 3 to Save Point 4

Head down the bridge to trigger a cutscene. 

NOTE: After this cutscene, you CAN NOT backtrack through the first half of this
level.

Mini-Boss: Goliath Fiend
Attacks: Smash, Grab, Ground Pound, Stomp, Car Throw

This boss is huge, and all of his attack span the entire screen.  Get under him
as fast as you can and unload on his legs with combos.  When he kneels over in
pain, unload on him.  Get by his head and press Y for great hilarity.

After the second cutscene, you land on Liberty Island surrounded by lesser
fiends and drakes.  Same old story, same old song and dance.  Not quite.  The
drakes here will dive bomb you, breaking your guard instantly.  Take everything
out and head for the entrance on the right side, grabbing the arrows from the
body.

Inside the building you'll be accosted by ninjas and warlocks.  Shocking, I
know.  Take them out and a save point and the second Test of Valor light up.
However, we have more important things to do right now.  Starting from the
entrance point and moving around the room:  In the glass cases are a cute
message, the DRAGON'S CLAW AND TIGER'S FANG, and more incendiary Shurikens.
Move around the case and slash at the wooden curtain to reveal an Xbox logo.
This will refill your health and heal your non-healable damage an infinite
amount of times.  On the left of that is The Vigoor Mythology Notebook.  Now
save your game.

Save Point 4 to Save Point 5

Head over to the Test of Valor.

Test Of Valor: Two of Black
Enemies: Purple Lesser Fiends
Prize: Talisman of Rebirth OR 20,000 Gold Essence

The Ultimate Technique, the Lunar Staff, and the Art of the Wind Blades are all
your friend here.  Start by using the Wind Blades to give yourself a little
space.  Now jump away from the lesser fiends and use the On-Land Charge to
utterly destroy anything near you.  The Lunar's level 2 Ultimate Technique is
great here, because your untouchable and at the very end, Ryu conjures fire
around him torching and killing anything it touches.  It's a good way to take
out 3 or 4 fiends at once.  Make sure to heal as needed and use the Wind Blades
when you get surrounded.  Obliterations are good right after the Wind Blades.
 
When you win, the chest will contain a Talisman of Rebirth if you used/don't
have one.  If you do, you will get 20,000 gold essence.

Exit this room via the doorway by the Xbox.  Follow the path to encounter a
couple archers.  Enter the large room to be pounced on by a group of melees and
archers.  Run around the second level balcony and you'll be attacked by a
lesser fiend that jumps through the doorway.  Make sure to grab the Devil Way
Mushroom on the left side of the balcony.  Use a series of wall runs to get it.

Head back to where the lesser fiend attacked you and leap out the door to
continue on.  You'll be attack by a pack of lesser fiends when you land.  Take
care of them and head to your right.  There's a chest with the Herbs of
Spiritual Life.  Take them and go to the opposite side of the area.  Equip your
bow and head up the stairs.

You'll be attacked by lesser fiends and drakes.  Use combos to take out the
lesser fiends and your bow to take out drakes.  There's no real cover in this
area, so you'll just have to either shoot and bolt or be used for target
practice.  Once you've killed everything here, take the stairs up to the next
area.

It's more of the same here.  Lesser fiends and drakes.  Use more of the same to
kill them.  You can use the area under the stairs for a small amount of cover
while you pick off the drakes.  Head up the stairs when you're done.

Based on what you've seen since you got outside, I'll give you three guesses as
to what awaits you at the top of the stairs.  Change is for politicians.  Kill
what you see.  Use the building for cover if you so need to.  After you've
gotten blood all over your nice pretty sword(s, or claws, or staff), head into
the building using the door to the left of stairs.

Melees and archers.  How boring.  Same old tactics to clear the area, using
incendiary Shurikens and/or the bow to take out the archer on the rafters.
Now, head to the alcove directly across from where you came in.  Open the chest
on the left side to get LIVES OF THE THOUSAND GODS #4.  Head up the stairs to
the save statue, but don't save yet. Face your left and jump to land on the
crossbeam.  Look around and use careful jumping to obtain CRYSTAL SKULL #9.
Now backtrack to the save statue and let it do its thing.

Save Point 5 to Chapter Boss

Jump back down to the floor and head to the glass elevator shaft in the middle
of the room.  Kick flip  your way up.  There's some arches and melees here.
Kill them.  There's a melee on the rafters.  Alas, there's nothing to collect
here, so head up the stairs.

At the landing here, you'll be attacked by a huge group of Drakes.  There's a
chest on the right with LIFE OF THE GODS #7.  You have two choices here.  Kill
the drakes for the essence if you have the weaponry or grab the treasure and
run.  Either way, grab what you came for and head up the stairs.

There's a dead ninja laying on the ground.  Pick the Devil Way Mushroom off
him.  Stop and shop at Muramasa's.  There's a beam jutting out from the wall
close to Muramasa's statue.  Kick flip off that and the side of the stairs to
reach the next area.

When you land, you'll be attacked by MORE melees and archers.  For those of you
bored of the same old enemies, trust me: There's a change a-comin' in the next
level.  Kill them.  Examine the body where you came out to get The Four
Greater Fiends, Part 2 Notebook.  If you want to, backtrack and save; it's your
last chance before the showdown with Alexei.  Enter the staircase and head up
until the cutscene.

Boss: Greater Fiend Alexei, Ruler of Lightning
Attacks: Grab, Tornado Spin, Lightning Cast

Alexei has three major attacks (in addition to the basic punches and kicks).
If you're in close, he'll try to grab you and pound you senseless.  If you're a
medium distance away, he'll cast a tornado around himself and spin toward you.
If you're at a distance, he'll shoot lightning at you.  He also likes to fly
away from you so he can cast lightning.

First of all, you can't block any of his major attacks.  Don't even try.  Use
the Reverse Wind to evade the tornado and lightning.  Try not to be grabbed by
him.  Don't use your arrows or incendiary Shurikens on Alexei.  The former
takes too long and the latter doesn't do much damage.  The Wind Blades Ninpo is
useless.  The Inferno Ninpo isn't.  Use the Inferno Ninpo as a cheap way to
avoid the Tornado Spin.

Your best bet is to just get in close and unload on him.  Use the Flying
Swallow or a similar attack to launch yourself at Alexei.  It will stun him
briefly.  Use heavy combos on him until he gets desperate and flies away from
you.  Then just use the Flying Swallow (or a similar attack) and start all over
again.

Wow.  Just wow.  What a let down.  He even coughs up blood.  What... A... Pu-

Chapter 5: The Aqua Capital

Elizebet's whereabouts remain unknown, but her twisted plans continue to 
unfold as she unleashes the fearsome power of the Demon Statue. Wherever she 
goes, its power awakens one of the Four Greater Fiends from his long slumber. 
The roar of Greater Fiend Volf, Ruler of Storms, echoes throughout a beautiful 
city of canals, transforming a Gothic castle into an evil fortress.

Start to Save Point 1
New Enemies: Werewolves
             Silver Water Scorpions

Walk forward a little bit to encounter a group of archers, melees, and
warlocks.  This first battle is a pain.  Try to focus on the melees first, then
the warlocks, and save the archers for last.  Or just use a ninpo to destroy
everything you see.  Head straight toward the stairs.  There's a Muramasa's
statue on the right side.  Buy what you want and need, then head up the stairs.

At the top of the stairs, you'll encounter the first of two new enemies in this
section: the werewolves.  These guys attack exactly like the lesser fiends.
They're also faster and stronger.  Use the same tactics that you used against
the lesser fiends.  Your best bet is to charge up a level 2 attack and just
throw yourself into the middle of the fray.  After they're dead, head to the
left and down the stairs to collect the KUSARI-GAMA from the dead ninja.

Continue down the stairs and cross over the water to the other side.  At the
very end of the dock, turn left.  There's a chest here.  Ignore it for now and
water run to the boat opposite from you on the far left side.  Collect CRYSTAL
SKULL #10 and water run back to the chest.  The second new enemy in this area
will attack you: The silver water scorpions.

These enemies are absolutely lethal on water.  Don't try to attack them there.
Dry land is your friend.  Use Ultimate Combos to make short work of them.
They're fast, have medium strength, and don't have a lot of health.  They can
break your guard when the jump on you and like to try to wolf pack you.  Use
ninpo liberally here and, once they're dead, open the chest for some red
essence.

Go back the way you came and up the stairs.  Cross over the bridge and into the
marketplace.  You'll be attacked by a group of werewolves here.  Once you've
dealt with them, start smashing the crates and barrels (Heh.  Crate and Barrel.
That's kind of clever.) in the marketplace for free gold essence.  Continue on
this path to happen upon a save point.

Save Point 1 to Save Point 2

Kick down the door to find yourself in an open-air restaurant infested with
wolves.  Take care of them with your favorite combos then examine the table to
the right of where you came in.  Pick up CRYSTAL SKULL #11 and head to your
right from the middle of the restaurant to continue on.

Four werewolves will attack you on the bridge.  Deal with them the same way
you've been doing.  Continue on and take a right at the T.  You'll come across
a second T.  Head right again and kick flip up the alcove on the left.  Two
melees will seem like a joke after the werewolves, and indeed they are.  Kill
them and examine the body for a Talisman of Rebirth.

Jump off this balcony and head straight.  There's a chest here with a Herb of
Spiritual Life.  Collect it and go back the way you came, making a right turn
and then going straight.  More wolves will attack you here.  Kill them all.  On
your left as you enter this area is the path to the rest of the level.
Directly in front of you is a small alcove.  Take that to get SPIRIT OF THE
DEVILS #1 off the body.  Backtrack and continue on down the path.

You'll wind up in a fountain being attacked by a few water scorpions.  Kill
them however you please and dive into the fountain.  You'll see an opening with
a chest next to it.  Open the chest for the GATLING SPEAR GUN.  Equip it and
swim through the opening into the next area.

Turn left and you'll see a new enemy: Jellyfish.  These little buggers are a
joke.  They explode if you touch them.  That's all they do.  Kill them with the
spear gun and collect the essence.  Water run across the water and you'll be
ambushed by water scorpions.  There's a small boat on the right, so hop up
there to take them out before you get smacked around too badly.

Just after the boat, there's a path going straight and a path guarded by
jellyfish going right.  Kill the jellyfish and follow the path on the right to
collect CRYSTAL SKULL #12.  Backtrack to the boat and go straight.  Follow the
winding path until you reach a second small boat.  Hop onto it and then hop up
to dry land to find a save statue.

Save Point 2 to Save Point 3

Head up the stairs and kick down the doors to be attacked by some lesser
fiends.  Kill them and head to your right.  On your right, there's a door
that's partially open.  Kick it down and open the chest for the BRIDGE GATE
KEY.  Examine the desk to pick up Hinomaru's Notebook.  Exit and continue right
to find Muramasa's statue.  Buy what you need and backtrack to the gate.

Open it and be attacked by a pack of werewolves on the bridge.  Kill them and
continue on through the doorway.  There's a ninja with arrow in him on the
left.  Stock up and run down the path, killing the pair of werewolves that
attack you.  The chest at the end of the path has an Herb of Spiritual Life.
Equip your bow and head out the doorway.

Shoot the two flashing jewels to lower the drawbridge.  Use the boxes on the
left side to get up to the zipline.  Take it across and jump down to get LIFE
OF THE GODS #8.  Jump into the water and run, dodging the water scorpions that
attack you.  There's a little dock on the far left side of the dock that you
can use to fight them.  

Now for some fun.  An unlimited amount of jellyfish appear in the water.  Kill
as many as you want and head over to the water wheels.  When you're done, go
over to the water wheels and jump on them.  Swing around and jump when you get
close to the top.  You'll catch another metal bar.  Jump again quickly to land
on the platform.

Run up the wheel here and jump on the gear to enter the clock.  There's a
chest on the far left side.  Jump and grab the bar circling you overhead and
ride it around until you get over the chest.  Drop down and open it for LIVES
OF THE THOUSAND GODS #5.  Exit through the doorway at the bottom of the room.
Head out and to your right to be attacked by another pack of werewolves.  Same
tactics.  Kill them all and use the save statue.

Save Point 3 to Save Point 4

Head under the arch to be attacked by a bunch of water scorpions.  Use Ultimate
Techniques and Obliterations to take them out.  Once they're dead, the
waterfall dries up and an opening appears.  Jump up into the building.  Walk to
the + intersection and you'll be attacked by some water scorpions and lesser
fiends.  Kill them and head right to get a Grains of Spiritual Life from the
chest.  Backtrack to the intersection and go left to find Muramasa's statue.

Continues down the path.  You'll be attacked by another lesser fiend and some
water scorpions in the room with the big barrels on the sides.  Take care of
them and continue through the corridor.  Ignore the path to your left for now
and go straight.  You'll be attacked by water scorpions and a lesser fiend in
front of the locked barrel room.  Kill them and go right.

Head up the stairs to be attacked by more of the same enemies you've already
killed.  After you've finished with them, head to the wine room at the very end
of the path.  Kick open the chest to get the COPPER KEY.  Backtrack to the
locked barrel room and open the door with the copper key.  Examine the body to
get the ART OF THE FLAME PHOENIX Ninpo scroll.  Now backtrack to the path you
skipped.

Kill the lesser fiend and water scorpion that attach you, then head into
another barrel room.  Open the chest for an Herb of Spiritual Life.  Now, head
to the end of the room and hop up on to the well.  The text gives you an idea
of what to do.  Jump up and press Y to break the cover and fall through.  You
land in the water next to the third Test of Valor.  Ignore it for a moment and
head to the save statue.

Save Point 4 to Chapter Boss
New Enemy: Ghost Fish

Now head back to the Test of Valor

Test Of Valor: Three of Blue
Enemies: Drakes and Werewolves
Prize: JEWEL OF THE DEMON SEAL #3

This will get very ugly very quick.  I strongly suggest you use your favorite
weapon, and upgrade your Wind Blades ninpo to level 3 before you attempt this.
There's a body with arrows in the area.

The drakes will surround the arena and either dive bomb you or launch fireballs
at you.  The werewolves will attack two or three at a time.  Ignore the drakes
for now and concentrate on the werewolves.  I wouldn't recommend using Ultimate
Techniques at the very start of the battle because the drakes will set you on
fire.  Just use regular combos until you start to thin out the werewolves.

Once you've beaten all the werewolves,  equip the bow or the incendiary
Shurikens and kill off the drakes.  You'll get the third Jewel of the Demon
Seal when you win.  MAKE SURE YOU REFILL YOUR ARROWS BEFORE YOU LEAVE!

Go back to the save point and re-save if you so desire.  Make your way to the
opposite end of the area, but stay on the brick walk way because some water
scorpions will attack you.  Kill them and dive into the middle of the stone
ring at the far end of the room.  In the very middle of the ring will be a 
second ring underwater.  Open the chest near it for an Herb of Spiritual Life.
Swim down through it and follow the path to the next area.

There's a new enemy in this area: Ghost fish.  These guys are lightweights.
They do almost no damage and one hit kills them.  They also attack you when you
get near a chest in this room.  When they swarm you, kill them and dive
underwater.  Speaking of which, there's a lot to collect in this room.

Head right into a circle of pillars to be attacked by the first group of fish.
Dive for an Herb of Spiritual Life.  Continue right until you get to the stairs
sitting on top of the water.  Climb up to the top and run along until you get
attacked again.  This chest contains a Talisman of Rebirth.  Continue along
the stairs until you reach the end.  Jump down and water run along the wall.

You'll run into a group of pillars and be attacked.  Kill the fish and dive to
get LIFE OF THE GODS #9.  You can now use the Life(s) of the Gods that you've
collected so far to increase your health bar.  Turn so your back is facing the
chest and water run straight ahead until you find yourself in the middle of
another ring.  Kill the fish here and dive for a Devil Way Mushroom.  Now look
around and you'll see a large rectangular group of pillars.  Water run over and
look for the chest sitting on the broken pillar.  Collect the SKULL KEY to
trigger the battle with the chapter boss.

Boss: Water Dragon
Attacks: Splash, Roar, Spine Shot, Grab and Chomp

The Water Dragon only has four attacks.  It'll jump up and slam down into the
water like whales do.  It can shoot the spines on its back at you.  If you get
near it, it will snag you in it's mouth and chomp chomp chomp.  And it will
roar at you and send jets of water in your direction.

This boss is easy.  Just stay on the fallen pillar and charge your arrows up to
level 2.  It will take a while, but you'll be almost immune to his attacks.
The only two that can hurt you are the Roar and the Spine Shot.

Chapter 6: The Lycanthropes' Castle

The canals running through this city lead to a giant castle, a once-beautiful 
architectural legacy now transformed into the lair of the Greater Fiend Volf. 
Volf's iron fist reigns over an army of werewolves. He is a Berserker, as 
bloodthirsty as a beast, and his never-ending hunger for battle has led him to 
prepare a fitting arena for a duel to the death with the world's most powerful 
Ninja.

Start to First Save Point

After the cutscene, swim or run to the broken column jutting up from the water.
Hop onto it and use the two columns to kick flip off, landing at the top.  Go
right and hop up onto the roof, heading over to the other side.  Turn left and
run along the roof until you see a large section of the ceiling broken away.
Jump down and collect CRYSTAL SKULL #13.  Backtrack and continue walking down
the left side of the roof.  There's a crack along the left side with a chest 
that holds 20,000 gold essence.  Collect it and continue down the left side of
the roof.

Jump down at the very end and kill the ghost fish to activate Muramasa's
statue.  Buy and upgrade what you want.  Now, head right from Muramasa's
statue and into the little depression.  Jump from pillar to pillar, killing
the ghost fish you encounter.

When you get to the large pillar top, head to your left and continue on to the
cavern's wall.  Head down the left side, kill the ghost fish, and open the
chest for the Herbs of Spiritual Life.  Backtrack along the ledge and continue
on, wall running at the break.  Some water scorpions will attack you.  Kill
them and open the chest for some red essence.

Jump from the wall onto the pillar at the far right, then jump on the semi-
circle platform.  A large school of ghost fish will attack you here.  Kill
them and continue on.  Jump to the pillar at the end of the semi-circle.  Jump
to the second pillar, then turn left and follow the path.  Open the chest for
a Devil Way Mushroom.  Backtrack and continue along the path.  When you reach
the entrance to the Lycanthropes' Castle, head on in for a save point.

Save Point 1 to Save Point 2
New Enemy: Skeleton Scorpions

Head into the tunnel.  You'll be attack by several groups of water scorpions
along this path.  Kill each group.  When you get to the big room, kill the
water scorpions.  There's a corpse on the ground.  Examine it for JEWEL OF THE
DEMON SEAL.  Continue on, stopping at a large door.  Use the Skull Key you got
in the last chapter to open the door and walk into a forensic anthropologist’s
dream.  (Sorry.  Had to say it.)

You're greeted by a new enemy on the pile of bones: Skeleton Scorpions.  These
are slow, weak, and easy to beat.  Get as far away from them as you can,
charge up a level 2 Ultimate Technique, and let it rip.  Collect your essence,
jump away from the skeleton scorpions, and repeat until all are dead.  Now,
make a circle around the room, then head back for the door.  Surprise!

Mini-Boss: Dragon Skeleton
Attacks: Kick, Punch, Grab, Bone Kick, Spin

This guy is like the Goliath Fiend in every way, except more so.  He's bigger,
faster, does more damage, and is a lot easier to defeat.  He'll try to kick or
stomp on you if you get close to him.  If you're at a distance, he'll try to
kick bones at you.  He can also grab you and smack you around pretty good.

Don't use Ninpo, incendiary Shurikens, or arrows on him.  All do pointless 
amounts of damage.  This bosses weak point is it's head, arms, or legs, also
like the Goliath Fiend.  Use a Flying Swallow or similar attack to get in close
and let him have it.  When you do a certain amount of damage, the dragon
skeleton falls on its boney ass (Sorry.  Had to say it.)  Continue smacking it
around until it gets up.  Then just rinse and repeat.  For the achievement
hounds in the crowd, it's very easy to get 100+ hit combos against this boss.

Kick flip up the shaft the boss opened for you and head along the wall.  Wall
run when appropriate and some water scorpions will attack you when you land.
Poke them with your weapon of choice until they give up and collect the Herb 
of Spiritual Life from the chest.  Continue on and more water scorpions will
attack you from the shaft with the skeleton hanging over it. 

Head into the shaft.  A plethora of skeleton scorpions will attack you
throughout this area, and if you miss a wall jump and fall to the bottom, they
will regenerate.  You can get as much essence as you want in this shaft.  Head
up the path and kill the water scorpions that attack you after the first batch
of skeleton scorpions.  Open the chest and collect an Herb of Spiritual Life.

Continue on and a second batch of skeleton scorpions will attack you.  After
them, equip the Dragon Sword when you get to the first large chasm with the 
three hanging skeletons.  Use the Flying Swallow to get across.  The third
batch of skeleton scorpions will attack you when you land.  Continue on up the
shaft, killing a fourth, fifth, and sixth batch of skeleton scorpions.

At the end of the shaft, jump to the wall opposite you to kick flip up and
outside.  Cut the string next to the guillotine and grab CRYSTAL SKULL #14.
No.  That's not creepy at all... There's a save point next to a door.

Save Point 2 to Save Point 3
New Enemy: Dark Pink Werewolves

Now head to the stairs on your right.  Climb up the stairs and open the chest
for a Grains of Spiritual Life.  There's a Muramasa statue in this area.  Buy
what you want and need, then backtrack to the stairs.

After the cutscene, two werewolves will attack you.  Take care of them and
head down the stairs.  Go to the now open door by the save statue and head in
to the castle.    Go down the stairs and two more werewolves will attack you.
Dispatch them and head into the dungeon.  Kick down the door to face down a
pack of werewolves led by a new enemy: Dark Pink Werewolves.

The dark pink werewolves are exactly the same as the brown werewolves, just
stronger.  Kill everything in this room, making sure you kill the dark pink
werewolf first.  He can make your life hell if you don't.  Head up the stairs,
killing a trios of water scorpions as you go.  When you get to the cannons,
look between them.  There's a body with arrows.  You will need these.  Go up
the stairs and kill another trio of water scorpions, then head into the
courtyard to be attacked by water scorpions and drakes.  

Kill the scorpions first, the drakes second.  There are walls on each side of
the main stairway that you can use to hide from the drakes.  The scorpions
will follow you over there.  Take them out, deal to the drakes, then go over
to the other side and do the same thing.

A test of valor will light up on the far side of the courtyard before you kill
everything.  Ignore it for now and go up the stairs.  Turn left at the top and
open the chest for some red essence.  Now backtrack to the top of the stairs
and go right.  A trio of werewolves will attack you.  Kill them and save/heal
at the statue.

Save Point 3 to Save Point 4

You'll pass this way again, so you have two choices here.  Continue on through
the level or do the Test of Valor.  For the sake of simplicity, I'm going to
include the Test of Valor now, so backtrack to it.

Test of Valor: Four of Green
Enemies: Bats and Silver Water Scorpions
Prize: LIVES OF THE THOUSAND GODS #6

Really?  Seriously?  This is the Test of Valor?  Bats and silver water
scorpions?  It is?  You're serious, huh?  Well okay...

Oddly enough, your biggest threat here is going to be the bats.  They'll swarm 
you, and before you know it, you won't have any health left.  Even so, take
care of the water scorpions first.  Use heavy damage combos and Ultimate
Techniques to take them out, same as you would for a regular encounter.  Then
turn your attention to the bats, going around the arena and killing them one by
bloody one.

A chest will appear with LIVES OF THE THOUSAND GODS #6.  Claim it and head back
out.

Backtrack to the save statue and climb up the ladder.  Follow the path, making
sure to grab the arrows from the body.  Kick flip up the alcove on the far side
and equip your arrows.  You're going to be attacked by a large flock of drakes
and you have literally NO cover.  Your only hope is quick aiming.  Take them
all out and head up the small set of stairs in this area.

Take the path on the left, getting attacked by a couple of werewolves on the
way.  Continue on and you'll be attacked by another pair.  Follow this path to
the end with the three flagpoles and a stained glass window.  A cutscene points
out the obvious.

Walk along the ledge and jump to grab the third flagpole.  Walk hand over hand
until you're even with the stained glass window, then swing around and jump.
You'll land in a Cathedral and be attacked by several water scorpions.  Kill
them all and open the chest by the organ for the BRONZE KEY.  Exit through the
door under the stained glass window that you came through.

In this little courtyard is a fallen ninja on your right side.  Take Inukoma's
Notebook from him.  Use the bronze key on the door with steam coming out of it
to enter the kitchen.  Plunge down into the kitchen where the werewolves wait
for you.  Head out under the arch on the left side.  Smash the barrels in this
room and open the chest to get LIFE OF THE GODS #10.  Now open the door.

On your left is a door and on you right is a save statue.  Do your thing.

Save Point 4 to Save Point 5

Open the door across the hall and you'll find yourself in a room infested with
werewolves.  Deal with them as best you can and head up the stairs.  Go left at
the top and head around to get an Herb of Spiritual Life from the chest (If you
already have 3 Herbs, save this chest.  You'll pass by it again latter.)  Jump
back down to the lower level and head for the door on the same side of the room
that you entered.

Kill the werewolves in the dining room and smash the chairs for fun.  The door
on the right side of the room leads to a new area.  Kill the pack of wolves
here and smash the couches for fun, then head through the only closed door in
this room.  A large group of water scorpions will attack you here.  Defeat them
and grab the blue glimmering thing on the ground.  You now have the CAST IRON
KEY.  Kick open the door.

You're back in the same room where you started.  How 'bout that?  Go up the
stairs and turn right.  Use the cast iron key on the door and enter.  Head up
the staircase and save at the statue.

Save Point 5 to Save Point 6
New Enemy: Incendiary Shuriken Ninja

Immediately after saving, you'll be attacked by a new enemy: Incendiary
Shuriken Ninjas.  One will hang back and the other will attack you, so use the
same tactics that you use against melees and archers.  Kick down the door to
enter the library and be attacked by a large group of incendiary shuriken
ninjas.  Kill them all, then head over to the left wall on the end of the room
opposite where you entered.  Slash at the books to uncover CRYSTAL SKULL #15.
Halfway done with those.  Now look around until you find the ninja holding The
Four Greater Fiends, Part 3 Notebook.  Run into the fireplace and kick flip
your way up.

Kill the water scorpions here and kick down the door.  You'll be attacked by
more incendiary shuriken ninjas here.  Kill them and head to the fireplace.
Jump up and kick flip to the top.  Use the save statue here to save your game.

Save Point 6 to Save Point 7

Drop down under the flagpoles to battle a pair of werewolves.  Kill them and
use the ladder to get yourself back up.  Swing across the flagpoles and follow
the path.  Head up to the stairs and try to open the door.  A group of
werewolves, lead by a dark pink, will attack you.  Kill them all to get the
GOLDEN KEY.  Now head down the stairs and to your right.

You won't be able to make the jump to the flagpoles, so just drop down and use
the ladder to get back up.  Two chests and Muramasa's statue await you.  The
chest on the right holds a Grains of Spiritual Life, the left holds the Herb of
Spiritual Life.  This is your last chance to access Muramasa's statue in this
stage.  Backtrack to the door and use the golden key to get in.

After Volf's challenge in the cutscene, you're surrounded by dark pink
werewolves.  Take them out as best you can, using a ninpo if you need to.  Poke
around Volf's throne to open the trapdoor and hop down.  Kill the water
scorpions here and open the chest on the left side of the room for an Herb of
Spiritual Life.  Save and heal at the statue.

Save Point 7 to Chapter Boss

You end up outside in the area where you fought the drakes and the water
scorpions.  If you didn't do it before, do the Test of Valor.  If you did, go
down the stairs.  A trio of water scorpions will attack you at the top and a
second trio will attack you after the arrow guy.  Make sure you grab the
arrows.  At the very bottom of the stairs, you'll notice the drawbridge is now
down.  Head across it and both side of the bridge will lock.  You're trapped in
a narrow area with no cover and a CRAPLOAD of drakes.  Kill them all and 
restock your arrows.  Continue on, opening the door on the far end to face down
Volf.

Boss: Greater Fiend Volf, Ruler of Storms
Attacks:  Scythe Combos, Punch, Kick, Rush, Pounce, Grab

Volf (and no, I don't think his name is clever) is a brutally strong boss.  He
favors using scythe combos, or spinning around in a circle with it.  He also
starts off the match by rushing you or smashing his scythe into the ground.
His grab attack is nasty and will take away a lot of health.  Volf won't rely
too much on punches and kicks, but he does use them.

First, Reverse Wind away from Volf as soon as the battle starts.  Use an aerial
combo, then a land combo, then Reverse Wind away and repeat.  For all his size
and strength, Volf doesn't have a lot of stamina.  He'll go down quick.  Don't
bother with ninpo, the bow, or incendiary Shurikens.  They won't be needed.

After you kill Volf, Ryu automatically equips the ECLIPSE SCYTHE.  Seems the
werewolves aren't too happy you killed their leader.  Go figure.  They rush
you, trying to overwhelm you, brown and dark pink alike.  Just kill them until
Sonia (remember her?) shows up and rescues you.  And yes, if you die, you have
to restart from Volf.

Chapter 7: The Flying Ship Daedalius

The fanged fortress of the wolf-beast toppled, Ryu and Sonia leave his twisted 
arena behind, taking to the skies in search of Elizebet. Ever northward, she 
is carried on wings of darkness, borne through the skies by the flying 
fortress Daedalus. She must be stopped, but the army of Genshin, sworn enemy 
of the Hayabusa clan, stands between Ryu and his quarry.

Start to First Save Point
New Enemies: Small Mech
             Cyborg Ninjas

First thing you'll notice when you start this level is the metal shields.  Duck
behind them.  Some turrets will start firing at you.  Use level 2 charged
arrow shot to beat them, six in all.  Two on top, two on the left, and two on
the right.  There's also a chest on the right side that has and unlimited
amount of arrows.

Walk forward to trigger a cutscene and encounter a new enemy: Small Mech.
There are four of these buggers in this area, and they pelt you with bullets
nonstop.  Get in close to them however you can, kill them quick, then get out
of the way because they explode.  Use a ninpo if you need to.  Once you clear
this area, Muramasa's  statue will light up.  Buy what you need.

Open the door to the right of Muramasa and head through.  A new enemy, cyborg
ninjas will attack you.  There is a set on the left side and a set on the
right.  Kill them both and head down the right side to the chest on the end.
Collect the red essence and backtrack, turning right as soon as you can.
There's a save statue at the end of this section.

Save Point 1 to Save Point 2
New Enemy:  Large Mech

Enter the door and kill the group of cyborg ninjas.  There's two chest in here,
one on the left and one on the right.  The one on the left has and Herb of 
Spiritual Life and the one on the right has a Devil Way Mushroom.  Open the
door when you're done.  Kill the cyborg ninjas in the hallway and head down the
catwalk, around, past the door, and down the other side.  Open the chest for
LIFE OF THE GODS #11.  Double back to the doorway and go through.

Defeat the two small mechs in here and press the aqua button to go down to the
next level.  You'll be attacked by a new enemy: the Large Mech.  This one
won't shoot at you nearly as much.  He'll just get in close and pound you into
submission.  Defeat him and go through the door.  Kill the cyborg ninjas in
this room, smash the control room equipment, pick up CRYSTAL SKULL #12, and
save your game.

Save Point 2 to Save Point 3
New Enemy: Rocket Soldier

Head back out of this room.  The large mech is back, and he brought some
friends.  How nice.  Kill them all and mosey on through the next door.  Yet
more cyborg ninjas will attack you.  Dispatch them and head for the left side
of the room.  Go up, collect LIFE OF THE GODS #12 from the chest, and go
through the door on the other side.

Two cyborg ninjas will attack you here.  Kill them and DO NOT touch the red 
lasers.  Go through the door on the right instead.  Four cyborg ninjas are in
need of killing.  Go through the door at the end of the hallway.  Retire the
cyborg ninjas tending to the computers and smash them.  The chests on the left
side of the room hold red essence and arrows.  Equip your bow and shoot out all
the tube with orange plasma in them.  Backtrack to the bridge.  

There's a lone Rocket Launcher Soldier here, a new enemy.  Whip Shurikens at
him until you get in close enough to tear him apart.  Go through the doorway
and through the area that used to be protected by lasers, and through the door.
Ignore the door on your left for now.  Kill all the rocket soldiers and cyborg
ninjas in this area.  There's a ton of them.  Now, backtrack to the door you
skipped.  Inside is a Muramasa statue and a save statue.  Buy and save.

Save Point 3 to Save Point 4
  
Head out and go past the slaughter you've created in the hallway and through
the door at the very end.  It's the only one that's blue.  In the bunk room,
take Yogenta's Notebook from him.  He's not going to need it anymore.  Use the
elevator on the left side of the room.

Cyborg ninjas wait for you in this area.  Take care of them and start smashing
he computers for gold essence.  And try to listen to the announcement when you
enter the room.  Hey, just because you're trying to kill them...  When you're
done in here, take the ladder up.

There are two chests and no enemies in this room.  The one closer to you holds
the Herbs of Spiritual Life.  The one farther away holds LIVES OF THE THOUSAND
GODS #7.  Open the door and deal with the rocket soldiers and cyborg ninjas in
this room.  The door on the right holds a chest with the ART OF THE PEIRCING
VOID Ninpo.  Now head over to the save statue.

Save Point 4 to Save Point 5

Head over to the unopened door to start the Test of Valor.

Test of Valor: Five of Yellow
Enemy: Large Mechs, Rocket Soldiers and Cyborg Ninjas
Prize: JEWEL OF THE DEMON SEAL #5

Oh, what fresh Hell is this?  Your biggest threat is, obviously, the large
mechs.  Just use a level 3 Inferno Ninpo on them.   They attack one at a time.
Don't bother with Ultimate Techniques in this test, because you'll be taking
damage from all sides and won't be able to charge up.  The large mechs will
hound you throughout this entire test.  The cyborg ninjas will tend to get in
your way as you attack the large mechs, so deal with them as they come up.
Once both the large mechs and cyborg ninjas are done for, go after the rocket
soldiers one by one until none are left.  This test will most likely empty your
inventory.

Two chest appear when you finish this test.  One has ghost fish, and the other
has JEWEL OF THE DEMON SEAL #5.

After you fight your way out of that test, resave.  Then go and push buttons on
the aqua panel.  A trap door will open, so hop down.  The chest holds arrows,
the body on the right holds the TONFAS, and the body on the left holds
incendiary shrurikens.  Go out through the door, stopping long enough to get
the Grains of Spiritual Life from the chest.  

Hey, this all looks familiar!  Kill the cyborg ninjas here and head down the
hall.  Make sure you grab CRYSTAL SKULL #17.  There's a not-too-bright rocket
soldier shooting at a pillar.  Take him out, too.  Head out the door.   Three
small mechs are armed with rockets and will take you out in no time flat.  Use
whatever you want to kill them.  Make good use of the Muramasa statue in this
area and press the aqua button to ride back down.

Kill the small mechs in this room and open the chest for more arrows.  Equip
your bow and go through the door.  Take out the turrets here, cross the room,
and go up the door on the other side.  Save and heal.

Save Point 5 to Save Point 6

Go through the door and pluck the Devil Way Mushroom off the body to your left.
Kill the rockets and the cyborgs in this area and open the door.  There are
some more cyborgs and rockets in here, so take care of them.  Enjoy the
cutscene.

Go through the door and open the chest on your left for an Herb of Spiritual
Life.  It's more of the same here, rockets and cyborgs.  Go through the door
when you're done.  Enjoy a second cutscene.

Run up the bridge and through the door.  Kill the cyborgs and rockets here for
a THIRD time and go through the door.  Run down the long hallway, killing the
cyborgs and rockets as you cross them.  A chest to the left of the door holds
an Herb of Spiritual Life.  Claim it and go through the door.

Say howdy to Muramasa again.  Buy what you need, but MAKE SURE you have 30
incendiary Shurikens.  Go through the door and take out the turrets.  Cross
the room and save.  Go through the door for a cutscene and a double boss
battle.

Boss: Genshin, part 2
Attacks: Hack'n'Slash, Flying Swallow, Rush, Counter Combo
Guards: Incendiary Shuriken Ninjas

This battle is exactly the same as your last battle against Genshin, save for
the incendiary shuriken ninjas.  Ignore Genshin at first and take out the
ninjas with a few well used ninpo.

Genshin himself is exactly the same, and the same tactics still apply.  Block
at all times, and wait for him to miss a combo, then unload on him.  If you
need a more detailed strategy, go back and read the strategy in Chapter 2.
Ranged weapons and ninpo are completely ineffective this time around, so don't
bother with them.  Make sure you conserve your items.

Is anyone else wondering what happened to Joe Hayabusa? After the cutscene, a
second battle starts immediately.

Boss: Armadillo
Attacks: Flame Shot, Eruption, Bite, Roll, Berserker, Explode

Yes, this is the armadillo they kept talking about on the ship.  Its attacks
all do a fair amount of damage and are all easily avoidable.  That's a good
thing, since they're all unblockable.  It'll shoot flames out of his mouth that
cover a great area of the field.  It'll erupt and shoot fireballs out of his
back.  If you get to close to it, it bite you, chomps, and spits you out with a
wave of fire.  It will curl into a ball and roll toward you.  Once you get the
armadillo to about 25% health, it will go berserk, glow orange, and roll at you
and erupt constantly.  Once you defeat it, it will use it's last attack.  It
will explode and kill you instantly.  HOLD BLOCK AFTER YOU DEFEAT THIS ENEMY!!!

The Wind Blades and Piercing Void ninpos will do some minor damage.  You can
attack its legs or head with melee attacks, but that gets dicey because the
armadillo will either trample you, smack you with its tail, or bite you.  Your
best bet, by far, is to use incendiary Shurikens.  Walk towards the armadillo
when the battle starts and wing them at the armadillo's head for the most
damage.  When you get it down to about 10%, it'll keel over in pain.  Run up
and mash Y to finish it in style.  You can avoid any of its attacks by getting
out of the way with running or using Reverse Wind.

DON'T FORGET TO HOLD BLOCK WHEN YOU BEAT THE ARMADILLO.

Chapter 8: Submit, or Die!

Several hundred kilometers north of the snowy crash-site of the Daedalus, 
Greater Fiend Zedonius has awakened to threaten a once-great military state. 
The malevolent Ruler of Flame issues an ultimatum handed down from the 
Infernal Priest Dagra Dai to the people of the world: Accept the yoke of the 
almighty Archfiend, or die. And so Earth's baptism by fire begins. The taunts 
of the Greater Fiend of Flame fill Ryu's mind.

Start to first Save Point
New Enemy: Ballistic Missile Soldiers

I think the chapter text is a not so subtle shot at the old Soviet Republics.
Any who, Muramasa's statue sits right in front of you.  Buy what you need and
equip your bow.  The chest on your left holds arrows.  Move around the sandbags
and walk forward.  A new enemy, Ballistic Missile Soldiers, will jump out at 
you.

Duck back behind the sandbags for cover and sight the red barrels.  They'll
explode when hit with a level 2 arrow, killing the ballistic soldiers
instantly.  You can also take them out individually.  After you kill the four
that appear, advance forward.  Round the corner and blow the barrels next to
the sandbag.  Then, lure the out ballistics and make them go boom.  Backtrack
for arrows if you want or need them, then continue on.

Four large mechs will attack you here with the ballistics as cover.  Take out
the mechs first, then target the ballistics with your bow.  (You'll be using
the bow a lot in this level, so get used to it.)    There's no area you can use
for cover, so just do the best you can.  If you're getting pounded, go back by
the overturned tank to heal your healable damage.  After you kill the four that
attack you, move forward.

There's a chest on the right side of the sandbags in this area with red
essence.  Turn left at the chest and blow the red barrel by the sandbags.  Now
lure out four more ballistics and blow them away move forward and into the
building on your right.  A welcome sight awaits you, so use it.

Save Point 1 to Save Point 2

Advance forward to see an unwelcome enemy.  Ninja wolves.  Take them out as
fast as you can.  A chest on the left side of the doorway holds Herbs of
Spiritual Life.  Head forward and left through the small arch.  Cyborg ninjas
will attack you, using ballistics as cover.  End the cyborgs first.  You have
two choices for how to take out the ballistics.  Arrows or hand to hand.

If you choose to take them out hand to hand, there's a little alcove on either
side of where you came in.  Kick flip up and run/reverse wind along the path,
then use the Flying Swallow or a similar attack when you get close.  They won't
have enough time to target you.  Now, jump back down and head into the
destroyed shop by the fountain.

Muramasa wishes to empty your coffers.  Buy and upgrade what you need and head
out of this area at the opposite end you came in from.  Round the corner for a
quick cutscene.  Those gray circles are landmines.  You want to stay off them
at all times.  Walk forward over the existing footprints into the next area.

Rocket and ballistic soldiers will try to take you out from the building.  Use
level 1 arrows on them to blow off a limb and make the exploding hail stop.
Then simply pick them off one by one at your convenience.  More will appear, so
kill them all.  There's arrows to the left of the sandbag if you need more.
You will do the blood flick if you move back far enough.

After everyone's dead, CAREFULLY jump over the sandbag.  Walk along the
footprints in the snow and to the body to get a Devil Way Mushroom.  Ignore the
crystal skull for now.  Jump over the sandbags and block immediately.  Two
turrets will be shooting at you.  Wait for the volley to stop and shoot a level
2 arrow at one.  Block again and repeat the cycle.

Now backtrack to the crystal skull.  If there's a way to get this skull without
taking damage, I don't think anyone's found it.  Jump to get CRYSTAL SKULL #18.
Head over to where the turrets were, making sure to stay in the footprints.  On
the right one is a body with a Devil Way Mushroom.  Open the gate and save your
game.

Save Point 2 to Save Point 3

Kick down the door to be attacked by incendiary shuriken ninjas.  Take them out
and go through the door to the right of where you entered.  Go up the stairs,
wall run, jump to the next wall and run, continue up the stairs, wall run
again, jump the the next wall and run, then continue up the stairs some more to
end up in the bell tower.

Jump and grab the metal ring in the middle of this room.  Go to your left a
quarter of the way around and jump off.  Examine the dead ninja here for LIFE
OF THE GODS #13.  Jump back on the ring and go halfway around, then jump off.
Head out the door onto the balcony, then into the door at the other end.
Examine the ninja here for the BELL KEY.  Go back the way you came and use the
bell key on the door.

Walk down the stairs to pick up CRYSTAL SKULL #19.  It's in one of the little
alcoves where candles should be.  Head out through the door and open the gold
doors on the pedestal in the middle of the room.  Jump down.  Kill the bats in
this tunnel for some easy essence and make your way through it until you reach
a train station.

A group of incendiary shuriken ninjas will attack you once you walk to the 
train.  Kill them and a quick cutscene will show the train doors unlocking.  
Before you go into the train, get along the far left wall and head to the end.
A chest here holds the Herb of Spiritual Life.  Now go back to the train and
head in.

Go through the first door on your right to get CRYSTAL SKULL #20.  Head through
the door in this room to see how much Team Ninja feels a need to bang home the
obvious.  Examine the body to get the DIGNITARY'S ID CARD.  Backtrack out of
this car and go into the next.  Open the chest for Grains of Spiritual Life.

Leave the train now.  Go to the far end of the station and up the stairs.  Use
the dignitary's ID card on the door and kick it down.  Sounds like there's
something VERY unhappy just outside this room.  Save your game.

Save Point 3 to Save Point 4.

Go up the stairs and kicks down the door to battle a mini-boss and its guards.

Mini-Boss: Goliath Fiend
Guards: Large Mechs and Rocket Launcher Soldiers
Attacks: Smash, Grab, Ground Pound, Stomp

Same fiend, same attacks, same strategy.  Get in close and attack its legs.
After you take off a third of its health, large mechs and rocket soldiers join
the fray.  Use the Inferno Ninpo to take out the mechs.  It works great on the
Goliath Fiend, too.  The Goliath Fiend will still keel over in pain after you
take off about 80% of its health, so get by its head head and mash Y.  Ignore
the rocket soldiers until everything else is dead, then take them out one by
one.  

After the cutscene, turn and go through the hole in the wall.  Jump down
through the hole in the floor and grab The Rule of the King of Darkness book.
Head down the tunnel and three incendiary shuriken ninjas will attack you.
Smack them around and go to the last cell on your right before the stairs.  A
long dead ninja has some shurikens for you.

Go down the stairs and into the third cell on your right.  Another long dead
ninja has LIFE OF THE GODS #14.  Follow the path to the end and kick open the
last cell door.  Throw an incendiary shuriken at the wall and walk through the
hole into a new area.

Water scorpions and ghost fish await you here.  Carefully make your way down
the left side here.  The water scorpions will come to you one or two at a time,
graciously offering themselves up as a sacrifice.  Kill them all and run across
the water.  Turn left on the ledge and open the chest for some red essence.

NOTE: There is NO Lives of the Thousand Gods in this chest on Path of the
Acolyte.  Only Path of the Warrior and up.

Continue down the path, killing the ghost fish.  Head up the stairs at the end
and follow the path.  Kick flip up the wall and throw an incendiary shuriken at
the crack in the wall.  Open the chest on the left for an Herb of Spiritual
Life.  Ignore the lit save statue for now.

Go up the stairs next to the save statue.  Go out the door and around.  Three
incendiary shuriken ninjas will attack you.  Kill them and continue on to
Muramasa's statue.  Buy everything you need; a Test of Valor is coming up
directly.  Jump down, kill another batch of incendiary ninjas, head to the save
statue and save.

Save Point 4 to Save Point 5.

Kick down the door.  There's a chest with arrows on the right of the Test of
Valor.  Step on the shiny to begin the next Test of Valor.

Test of Valor: Six of White
Enemies: Small Mechs and Ballistic Missile Soldiers
Prize: JEWEL OF THE DEMON SEAL #6

Welcome back to Hell!  Actually, this is more like Hell Lite.  Small mechs and
ballistic soldiers wait for you here.  The mechs are your first priority.  Use
a level 3 Inferno Ninpo to take them out, keeping in mind that they like to
explode when they're beaten.  After the mechs are done for, take out whatever
ballistics remain using melees.  No sense in wasting arrows here.  Just use
your ordinary shurikens to get in close so you can kill them.

Two chest appear when you're done.  One contains ghost fish, the other contains
JEWEL OF THE DEMON SEAL #6.

Re-save if you want to and go back to Muramasa's statue.  Replace whatever
items you used.  It's your last chance before fighting Zedonius.  Use the
ladder or kick flip up the shaft to land in a room full of gears for the clock.
Head to your left and hop on the horizontal gear.  Hop up two more horizontal
gears and incendiary ninjas will attack you.  Two of them.  Take them out with
or without ease.

Jump to the vertical gear here and run up the side, jumping to the bars.  This
gear is moving against another gear, and if you fall between them, mash buttons
until you get free.  Swing and jump across the bars to land on a horizontal
gear.  Hop up to the next horizontal gear.

Jump onto the vertical gear here and you'll be attacked by three incendiary
ninjas here.  You can fight them for the essence or let them get crushed in the
gears for no essence.  Either way, once they're gone, jump across the two
vertical gears to the next horizontal gear.  

Jump from the horizontal gear here onto the giant hamster wheel.  Follow it
around until you're just above the horizontal gear.  Jump down and grab
CRYSTAL SKULL #21.  Jump onto the ledge and grab Izo's Notebook from him.  Not
far away is the first part of Koshimaru's Notebook (1).  Run and jump up the
vertical gear to the horizontal one.

Grab the ring up here and adjust yourself so you're facing away from the center
of the ring.  Ride it halfway around to the vertical gear and jump off.  Run up
the vertical gear and immediately jump to your right.  There's a chest here
with Grains of Spiritual Life.  Follow the series of horizontal gears up the
clock tower.  You'll eventually reach two vertical gears, run up one, jump, run
up the other, and land on the ledge.  Save your game.

Save Point 5 to Chapter Boss

Run up the platforms until the cutscene.

Boss: Greater Fiend Zedonius, Ruler of Flame
Attacks: Twin Fireball, Pounce (in air only), Inferno, Punch, Kick, Grab

Zedonius has two attacks in the air.  The first is his twin fireball, which is
easily avoidable.  Just use Reverse Wind in one direction, then again in a
different direction.  Same for his pounce.  The bad thing about the pounce is
that there's almost no warning when he uses it.  He'll occasionally summon fire
that licks up from the ground, his inferno attack.  He can do that either in
air or on the ground.  If you're in close, he has the basic kick/punch melee as
well as a grab attack where he throttles you and flings you across the room.

Fight Zedonius the same way you fight Genshin.  Get in close and dance around
with him, looking for an opening.  Use a strong, quick combo and then get out
of the way before you get pounded in.  If you happen to favor the Dragon's Claw
and Tiger's Fang, [360 Y] works wonders on him.  Use the Wind Blades Ninpo if
you need a break or a moment to recover.  Arrows and incendiary shurikens are a
waste of time, equipment, and life.  So are the Inferno and Piercing Void
ninpos.

Chapter 9: Heart of Darkness

Elizebet's trail leads to an ominous realm in South America. This unholy land 
conceals the final component to resurrecting the Archfiend. Ryu Hayabusa 
penetrates its dark mangroves that teem with the heavily-armed forces of the 
Black Spider Ninja Clan on a path to the lair of the Archfiend. Ryu journeys 
through a jungle far from civilization, a mysterious place where the secrets 
of the ancients dwell.

Star to First Save Point

Head down the path for the same old, same old.  People need killing.  It's some
cyborgs and a rocket soldier.  Head up the path when you're done.  You'll come
to a lake with a rocket soldier trying to nail you from a shanty.  Pull out
your arrows or incendiary shuriken to take care of him.

Equip the Gatling gun and hop into the lake.  A mass of jellyfish will spawn
here, so take them out.  After they regenerate a couple times, Muramasa’s
statue will light up.  Buy what you need and use the opening in the water on
the far left side to continue on.

More jellyfish await you in this lake.  Take them out and equip your incendiary
shurikens.  Continue running through the water until rockets start flying in
your direction.  Take out the two rocket soldiers firing at you with them, then
run up to the dock and save your game.

Save Point 1 to Save Point 2
New Enemy: Water Mech

Head through the shanty and prepare yourself.  A large group of ballistic
soldiers will attack you in waves here.  You have two options; run across the
lake and deal with them face to face, or whip out your bow and deal with them
from afar. Whatever your choice, you can return to the dock to do the blood
flick and heal your non-healable damage.  I know.  It doesn't make sense to me,
either.

The easiest way I found to deal with this area is use incendiary shurikens to
get in close and hack them apart.  One will main them, two will kill.  Ignore
the chests for now.  After that, you get to face a new enemy: Water Mechs.
They shoot ballistic missiles at you.  Get in close to take them out.  They
explode when you beat them, so make sure you're underwater.

Now, we have a ton of chests to open.  Starting from the far right, run around
the watchtower and open the chest for an Herb of Spiritual Life.  Examine the
ropes for CYRSTAL SKULL #22.  Jump back into the water and head left to the
next staircase.  The chest on the left has blue essence.  Head left from this
room and up the staircase for LIFE OF THE GODS #15.  Go back down the staircase
and kick open the chest for arrows.

Head out of this area and left.  Open the chest for a Devil Way Mushroom.  Turn
around and go left, then jump up to the next area.  The chest here has red
essence.  Wall run along the right wall to get to up to the next shanty.  The
room in front of you has an Herb of Spiritual Life.  The body to your right
holds another Herb of Spiritual Life.  

Follow the path, going down and around.  When you get to the watchtower,
there's a semi-concealed path.  Kick open the punji gate and follow this path.
Open the chest for the JADE MASK.  Head back and jump into the water.  More 
water mechs will attack you.  Kill them and head for the area you saw in the
earlier cutscene.

Use the jade mask on the glowing part of the wall and an underwater gate will
open on your left.  Take it.  When you surface and hop up onto dry land, a
chest on your left will have yet another Herb of Spiritual Life.  Kill the 
jellyfish in the water, then backtrack to where you started this area.  Jump
and swing from branch to branch to get to the next area.

Follow the path, killing the cyborgs as you come across them.  When you get to
the end, use level 2 arrows or two incendiary shurikens on the rockets across
the water.  Grab onto the vine and take it halfway across.  Face right and you
should see a branch.  Swing and jump from branch to branch to get to a hidden
area with Muramasa's statue and CRYSTAL SKULL # 23.  Make sure you stock up on
arrows!

You'll have to jump into the water, head back to the beginning of the area and
get to the vine again.  Take it all the way across and drop down.  Kill the
cyborg ninjas here and look for a path on the left (it has a tree branch arched
over it.)  The chest in here has a Devil Way Mushroom.  Backtrack to the Save
Point and save.

Save Point 2 to Save Point 3
New Enemy: Spiked Beetle

Head through the rock arch and partway into this room.  The path behind you
will lock permanently (there's no turning back now!) and a plethora of new
enemies will attack you, the Spiked Beetles.  This is another area where it's
easy to get a 100+ hit combo.  Just get as far away from them as you can and
use an Ultimate Technique.  The beetle fight like the skeleton scorpions from
Chapter 6.  If you're not trying to get a weapon achievement, the Lunar is 
great here.

After they're dead, use an Ultimate Technique on the boulder to break it.  Jump
down and you'll land in a long green glowing tunnel.  THIS ENTIRE AREA IS
EXCELLENT FOR ESSENCE BUILDING.  Head down into the tunnel, killing first the
bats, then the roving packs of beetles that attack you.  

When you get to the chambers branching off from the tunnel, bust open the eggs
for essence.  Eventually, bugs will respawn indefinitely in one of these
chambers.  After a while of ducking in and out of chambers, the music will
change and a mini-boss will attack you.

Mini-Boss: Craw Wurm
Attacks: Grab and Scrape

First, if you don't know where I got the name for this boss, shame on you.  The
Craw Wurm's only attack, so far as I can tell, is to grab you and scrape you
along the walls of the tunnel.  That's really all it needs.  One time can drain
you health bar, causing you to use your Talisman of Rebirth, then drain that,
too.  Sounds difficult, right?

He's really not.  In fact, he's the easiest boss or mini-boss in the game.
Equip your arrows and fire level 2 shots at him from inside your chamber.
That's it.  He'll keep moving across the entrance, so keep firing at him.  You
can beat him without being touched.  For the really adventurous among you, you
can run to other chambers in between shots to find on where the beetles
respawn.

After you beat the Craw Wurm, he creates a tunnel for you to escape this area.
Jump down the hole and, core blimey!  You land right next to a save statue.  Do
your thing.  If you ran into a pile of boulders instead of a hole, turn around
and go the other way!

Save Point 3 to Save Point 4
New Enemies: Giant Worms
             Giant Fish

Run into the swamp to meet a new enemy: Giant Worms.  Spam Flying Swallow or
similar attack to get in close and unload on them.  CRYSTAL SKULL #24 can be
found in this area.  After you kill them all (or ignore them), go up the path
opposite where you entered.  Examine the dead ninja when you get to him for the
VIGOORIAN FLAILS.  It's a shame you get these so late in the game...

Continue along the path and you'll come to a lake filled with another new 
enemy: Giant Fish.  Run to the other end of the lake, dodging and darting
around them until you get to the bridge.  Now pull out your gatling gun, jump
into the water on the right side of the lake as you face it, and take them all
out.

Once they're all dead, we have some exploring to do.  Hop up onto the sandbar
right in front of you.  The dead ninja holds a Devil Way Mushroom.  The chest
by him holds JEWEL OF THE DEMON SEAL #7.  Now swim across to the left side of
the lake.  Dive at the stone structure and open a chest for the Grains of
Spiritual Life.  Now head back to the bridge and continue on.

A save statue and a Test of Valor await you here.  Ignore them for now and head
to your right.  Buy and upgrade what you need and backtrack to the save statue.

Save Point 4 to Chapter Boss
New Enemy: Zombies

Step on the Test of Valor and prepare yourself for the hardest battle in the
history of Ninja Gaiden.  Harder than even Bloody Malth!

Test of Valor: Seven of Red
Enemies: Large Mechs, Small Mech and Ninja Wolves
Prize: Talisman of Rebirth OR 20,000 Gold Essence

Okay, I lied.  It's skeleton scorpions and beetles.  Equip the Lunar and take
them out with a few well placed Ultimate Techniques.

When you clear the area, two chests will appear.  The first holds ghost fish.
The second holds a Talisman of Rebirth if you used/don't have one.  If you do,
you will get 20,000 gold essence.  Teleport out of this pathetic test.

Well, after that grueling battle, resave and replace any items you used.  Now
go examine the wall.  A portal opens and a new enemy will attack you: Zombies.
They're big and slow and powerful and they like to shoot cannonballs.  Get in
close and use a strong combo to kill them.  After you beat all of them, go back
and kill the giant fish that respawned in the lake.

A short cutscene will allow you to move on.  Kick open the stone doors and head
to your left for a chest with 20,000 gold essence.  Dive into the water
directly across from the door and swim under the stone wall.  Surface and walk
down the bank until the cutscene.

Zombies will attack you after the cutscene, so take them all out.  Dive into
the water for CYRSTAL SKULL #25.  Go back onto the bank and take the path on
your left, up the mountain.  A few more zombies will attack you along the way,
so kill them.  You'll eventually come to a clearing and the chapter boss.

Boss: Gold Dragon x2
Attacks: Giant Fireball, Triple Fireball, Laser

These dragons' attacks are all very powerful.  Two or three hits will kill you.
The giant fireball has to be charged and is very slow, so just dodge it however
you want.  The triple fireball is quick and the (relatively) weakest of the
dragons' attacks.  Reverse Wind is a good way to avoid them.  The laser will
scorch an arch on the ground, kicking up fire.  Same thing as the triple
fireballs, use Reverse Wind.

You CAN NOT hit the dragons with melee attacks.  You have to use ninpo and/or
charged arrows.  There's a body with arrows in it for your continence.

The best way to fight these guys is to dipsy-doodle around their attacks until
one of them charges up for a giant fireball.  Aim a level 3 Art of the Piercing
Void Ninpo at it.  A well-aimed shot will take off almost all of it's health.
Then just fire level 1 arrows at it until it's dead.  Lather rinse and repeat
for the other one.

This level has been all about the easy, huh?  Easy mini-boss, easy Test of
Valor, easy boss.  Heh.

Chapter 10: The Temple of Sacrifice

A great waterfall parts before Elizebet as if in fear of the Demon Statue held 
high above her head in a rain of blood. Behind it lies the gaping entrance to 
a massive cavern. The stench of blood reeks from its sculpted interior Upon
this altar, Infernal Priest Dagra Dai will breathe life into the Demon Statue
once  again. Ryu Hayabusa closes in on his quarry.

Start to first Save Point
New Enemy: Blood Scorpions

It's raining blood.  Lots of blood.  Hooooookay...  Muramasa's on your left.
Buy and upgrade as needed and head down the path to find a (kinda) new enemy:
Blood Scorpions.  These are just stronger pallet swaps of the old water
scorpions, so take them out the same way.  Continue up the path, killing blood
scorpions as you come across them.

Wall run across the gap and continue on, killing more scorpions.  As you walk
along the path, keep an eye out for a chest on your right with an Herb of
Spiritual Life.  Right after the chest is another gap you have to wall run
across.  Drop down into the gap.

The chest on your right has LIFE OF THE GODS #16.  The one on the left has
another Herbs of Spiritual Life.  Use the hill to get back up to the ledge you
were on and wall run across, jumping from one wall to the next.  You'll land in
a clearing.  A group of lesser fiends and blood scorpions will attack you here.
Kill them all and take Denji's Notebook from him, then continue up the path and
save.

Save Point 1 to Save Point 2

Continue along the path, into a cave.  Two Rasetsus will charge at you, one at
a time.  They have no new tactics, so take them out the same way you did in
Chapters 1 and 2.  Continue on, examining the dead ninjas for a Devil Way
Mushroom and a Grains of Spiritual Life.  There's a save point a little past
the second ninja.

Save Point 2 to Save Point 3
New Enemy: Mutant Spiked Beetles

Advance forward a little bit into the acid pit.  The acid will take off a very
small amount of life.  Beetles and a worm will attack you.  Jump back onto the
land so the worm can't get you and take out the beetles.  Then take out the
worm.  There's a small spit of land on the right.  Go to it and grab the
incendiary shurikens from the dead ninja.  Examine the pillar at the end of the
room to lower it, then kick flip up.

Drop down into the pit here and fight a new enemy: Mutant Spiked Beetles.  They
fight the same as regular beetles.  Just larger, stronger and uglier.  Kill
them, open the chest for blue essence, and kick flip back up the wall.  Wall
run, then jump to the opposite wall and land on the ledge.  Turn around, and
jump to this wall.  Run and jump to get CRYSTAL SKULL #26.  Wall run back to
the ledge.

Another pit with giant worms await you.  Kill them all.  Examine the pillar at
the end of the chamber to lower it and continue on.  Follow the path until you
drop down the hole.  You'll land next to a save statue.

Save Point 3 to Save Point 4

Head forward for a cutscene.  Don't waste your time and supplies fighting the
drakes here.  Just drop down off the ledge and run down the stairs.  At the
bottom of the stairs on the right is a chest containing the Herbs of Spiritual
Life.  On the left is CRYSTAL SKULL #27.  Continue on and defeat the blood
scorpions that attack you.

Now, go to the middle of the disk, jump, and press Y.  A bone cage containing
more blood scorpions drops down.  Kill them.  Now examine the dead ninja for
the JEWEL OF THE DEMON SEAL #8, your last one.  Continue on, grabbing arrows
from the dead ninja.

A large group of zombies will accost you.  Take them out and mosey down the
path.  A group of drakes will attack you here.  Take them out if you want to.
Muramasa's statue is on the left side of the area, so stock up and head down
the bridge.  Lesser fiends will attack you on the bridge and zombies will
attack you at the end of the bridge.  Once you've taken care of them all, save.

Save Point 4 to Save Point 5

Time for everyone's favorite!  The Test of Valor

Test of Valor: Eight of White
Enemies: Blood Scorpions and Ghost Fish
Prize: Essence

Pretty simple.  Don't worry about the ghost fish.  Just attack the blood
scorpions with everything you have.  The ghost fish will try to swarm you and
get themselves killed.

Three chests appear when you're done.  One has ghost fish, one has Grains of
Spiritual Life, and one has 20,000 essence.

Warp out and continue on.  In this area, jump in the middle of the disk and
press Y again.  A cage with two blood scorpions drops.  Kill them and take the
Grains of Spiritual Life from the body.  Go into the fallen pillar on the left
of the bone cage and slide into the next area.

You'll be attacked by zombies here.  Kill them off.  Continue down this area,
grabbing the Herb of Spiritual Life from the chest and arrows from the dead
body.  Kill the drakes that attack you here.  Continue on and blood scorpions
will attack you.  Kill them and grab another Herb of Spiritual Life From the
chest.  After the cutscene, jump in the middle of the disk and press Y to fight
a familiar face.

Mini-Boss: Gold Dragon
Attacks: Giant Fireball, Triple Fireball, Laser

You're only facing one this time.  It has the same attack, so you should use
the same attacks.  A well-timed Piercing Void ninpo and arrows.

After you kill the gold dragon, a chest appears.  Open it for the BONE RELIEF.
A body in this area also has an Herb of Spiritual Life.  Take the bone relief
and place it in the middle of the stairs to open the door to the next
"mini-boss".

Mini-Boss: A Crapload of Black Spider Clan Ninjas
Attacks: Melee

This battle WILL seriously slow to a crawl.  100+ BSC ninjas will attack you.
Use Ultimate Techniques to take them out and the Wind Blades ninpo when you
get surrounded.  If you're not trying for a weapon achievement, the Viggy
Flails are great here.  A second, smaller, wave will attack close to the top of
the stairs.  I seriously go through this entire fight wanting to yell Mr.
HAYABUSA!  (a la Agent Smith from The Matrix.)

Open the chest on your right for red essence.  Go through the doorway and
examine the stone tablet to open it.  Jump down to be greeted by Muramasa's
statue on the left and a save point on the right.

Save Point 5 to Chapter Boss
New Enemy: Fiends

Open the door to be greeted by a new enemy: Fiends.  These are a more powerful
flying version of lesser fiends.  Try to lure everyone back into the statue
room and take them out there.  It's much easier than trying to fight them on
the incline.  Head down said incline once they're dead and open the chests for
some red essence and a Grains of Spiritual Life.  Grab The Prayer of the
Necromantle from the right side of the stairs.

Go up the stairs and open the door to find a very naked Elizebet bathing.  In a
pool of blood.  Ooooooookay, then...  A hemotonagliacs best wet--

Boss Battle: Queen of the Greater Fiends Elizebet, Ruler of Blood
Attacks: Flying Swallow, Tail Grab, Nail Claw, Tail Slap

For all her preening and posturing since the game started, Elizebet is kind of 
a letdown.  Her favorite attack is one that's similar to your Flying Swallow.
She'll also grab you with her tail and slam you around.  Her melee attacks are
pretty basic.  She'll either claw at you with her nails or slap you with her
tail.

Like Alexei, Volf, and Zedonius, you want to get in close to Elizebet.  Use the
Flying Swallow (She'll block it 99.99% of the time) and unload on her with
heavy combos.  They tend to leave her stunned and wide open, so go wild.
She'll be dead before you know it.

Chapter 11: A Tempered Gravestone

Ryu returns to Hayabusa Village, resting in the shadow of sacred Mount Fuji. 
It is his final stop before heading to unholy ground, to the source of the 
supernatural forces threatening the world. Dragon Sword in hand, Ryu's body 
courses with unfathomable power. Atop the mountain from which this evil pours 
forth, Genshin awaits, intent on claiming the life of the last of the Dragon 
Lineage. The inevitable confrontation between Ryu and Genshin approaches.

Start to First Save Point

Welcome back to Hayabusa Village.  After the cutscene, you start out
auto-equipped with the TRUE DRAGON SWORD.  Head down the stairs to face a new 
enemy: White Black Spider Clan Ninjas.  Yes, it confuses me, too.  These guys 
fight just like the regular melee and archers.  Further down the stairs, more
white ninjas and some incendiary shuriken ninjas.  If you want, you can jump
down from the top of the stairs and avoid most of this nonsense.

Continue down the stairs and under the covered walkway until there are no more
stairs to walk down.  The door on the left holds Muramasa's Statue.  Buy what
you need and continue on down another set of stairs.  Kill the white ninjas in
this area.  Ignore both the archer firing at you and the save statue.  Head
into the cave and go all the way to the end for some arrows.  Backtrack and
save.

Save Point 1 to Save Point 2

Huh.  The archers are gone.  How 'bout that?  Head down the path, taking out
the incendiary shuriken ninjas and the archers in the towers.  At the bottom of
the path, where you got the Rod of Trials, you'll be attacked by white ninjas,
incendiary shuriken ninjas, and a new form of the mages with all the same
attacks you know and loathe.

Head into the room where you got the Falcon's Talons and kill the trio of
incendiary shuriken ninjas.  Exit and head along the walk.  Kill the two white
archers by getting close to them using a wall run.  Kill all the melees and
incendiaries in this area and save your game.

Save Point 2 to Save Point 3

Grab the arrows off the dead ninja and continue on.  The path on your right is
blocked off, so go through the door onto the bridge.  Kill the incendiaries
here and kick open the other door on the bridge.  Ninja wolves and white
archers will attack you in this area.  Take them out and head up the stairs on
your left.

Grab the JIZO STATUE HEAD on the stairs.  A short cutscene will tell you what
to do next.  Examine the tombstone for KURAHA'S ROOM KEY.  Now backtrack all
the way to the Rod of Trials courtyard.  Use the key on the door on the left
side.  The chest on the left has SEAL OF THE DEMON #2.  The chest in the
middle holds the WINDMILL SHURIKEN.  The chest on the right holds 20,000 gold
essence.

Backtrack to the archery range.  You'll be attacked by two Rasetsus and a pack
of incendiaries.  Take everyone out, focusing on the Rasetsus first.  Kick open
the door to the building on your left and open the chest for some essence.  Use
Muramasa's statue, then climb up the ladder.  Take the History of the Castle of
the Dragon Notebook from the dead ninja and leap out the window.

Kill the incendiaries when you land.  On the far left side is a chest with red
essence in it.  Head for the gate on the right side and go right before you get
there.  A dead ninja will have an Herb of Spiritual Life.  Behind the wheel is
CRYSTAL SKULL #28.  Now go to the Jizo Statues and replace the missing head.
Open the chest that appears in the building behind you for Grains of Spiritual
Life.  Now go through the gate.  Kill the incendiaries that attack you and save
your game.

Save Point 3 to Save Point 4

Walk down the bride and kill the white mages and incendiaries in this area,
then jump into the water.  Swim through the underwater tunnel and surface on
the other side.  A trio of white melees will attack you here.  Kill them and
attack the shed for CRYSTAL SKULL #29.  

Continue along the path, killing the white ninjas, white mages, and
incendiaries you come across.  This area is a pain to fight in because the tall
grass obscures your view.   Head through the cave when you come to it, kill the
incendiaries, and save your game.

Save Point 4 to Save Point 5

Head through the cave.  On your right is a chest with the Herb of Spiritual
Life, and on your left is the last Test of Valor.

Test of Valor: Nine of Violet
Enemies: Ninja Wolves and Incendiary Shuriken Ninjas
Prize: LIVES OF THE THOUSAND GODS #9

This is the test of things that go boom in the night.  Use your Ninpo liberally
here.  Try to take out the ninja wolves first.  They're the bigger threat and
there's less of them.  After  they're done for, focus on the incendiaries.

Once you kill everything, three chests will appear.  Two have ghost fish, and
the last has LIVES OF THE THOUSAND GODS #9, the last one.  Warp out.

Backtrack to the save statue, re-save if you want, and jump up the wall on your
left.  Welcome back to the Shadow Clan Fortress, formerly the home of Murai,
now unfortunately deceased.  Follow the path up the ramp, killing the two
incendiaries.  Head into the room and take Hachijuro's Notebook from him.  Drop
down to the next area.

Boy, the place has kinda gone to hell, huh?  Kill the white ninjas and
incendiaries here, then just follow the path.  Make sure you grab the Devil Way
Mushroom off the body.  Kill more of the same in these two room and steal the
Grains of Spiritual Life from the dead body.  Continue on, grabbing the arrows
from the body and heading outside.

Kill the white ninja here and ignore the zipline.  Jump down the shaft and kill
the incendiaries here.  Take LIFE OF THE GODS #17 from the dead ninja.
Continue down the path, and once you get outside, head to your right.  In the
shaft is the LAST CRYSTAL SKULL.  FINE. A. LEY!  Backtrack to the zipline and
take it across.  Save your game here.

Save Point 5 to Save Point 6

Head down the path, killing first melees, then archers, then incendiaries.
When you get to the large clearing, you'll be attacked by a never-ending, and I
DO MEAN never-ending horde of white ninjas and incendiaries.  Kill them until
the cutscene.  It seems Muramasa really is a talented swordsman.  He also gives
you *gasp* something for free!  Muramasa's Omusubi will fully restore your
health and heal all your lasting damage.  After the cutscene, you find yourself
next to a save point.

Save Point 6 to Chapter Boss

Head down the path killing everything you see (white melees and white mages,
then white archers and incendiaries, then melees).  Ignore Muramasa's shop for
a moment and head to your right.  There's a body with the Grains of Spiritual
Life.  Now, head back to Muramasa's statue.  By the end of the level you will
have collected 1 Herb of Spiritual Life and 2 Devil Way Mushrooms.  With that
in mind, buy what you need because there's no way you can get back to this
statue.

Take the path on the left and slide down the cliff to the base of Mount Fuji.
A huge pack of ninja wolves will greet you.  Pet them, play with them, or kill
them, the choice is yours.  After they're dead, continue on.  Take Koshimaru's
Notebook (2) from him.  Continue on, killing the incendiaries and white melees
that attack you.

Enter the large clearing, known as the Ninja Graveyard.  A large group of melee
and incendiary ninjas will attack you here.  Kill them all and head along the
right wall.  A chest here has the Herb of Spiritual Life.  Continue up the
right side and search the dead ninja for the LAST LIFE OF THE GODS.  Woo-hoo!
Now head left.  Roughly in the center of the graveyard is a fallen ninja with a
Devil Way Mushroom.  Go along the left wall until you see another dead ninja
with a Devil Way Mushroom.  Now walk until you see the cutscene.

Boss: Genshin, part 3
Attacks: Hack'n'Slash, Flying Swallow, Rush, Counter Combo, Air Combo

Same old strategy for a kinda new Genshin.  He has a new air combo that he uses
when you're in close.  It can take out most of your life bar.  Otherwise, just
block, parry, and combo until he's dead.

The cutscene revels some interesting plot points...

Chapter 12: Quickening Devastation

Deep within Mount Fuji lies a hellish, tainted world, where the demented 
Infernal Priest Dagra Dai invokes dark ceremonies and incantations to 
resurrect the Archfiend. Every heartbeat of the fetal overlord rumbles like an 
omen of death for the human race. Ryu enters the Underworld, where no human 
has ever set foot before. He does not yet realize that he is in the land of 
the dead, home to those who have shuffled off this mortal coil.

Start to First Save Point

Welcome to Hell.  Literally.  You start out close to Muramasa's statue.  Buy
what you want, but MAKE SURE you have 30 incendiary shurikens.  Head up the
path on the left.  Some lesser fiends will attack you, and fiend will launch
forceballs at you from the clearing.  Do not attack anything in the clearing.
Random fireballs will smack into you, adding to the fun.

Lure everyone back down on the path where the fireballs can't hurt you and take
them out.  Then QUICKLY run through the clearing.  A body at the end has a
Devil Way Mushroom.  Go up the path until you see the save point.

Save Point 1 to Save Point 2

Continue up the path until you get to a second clearing.  An old friend is
waiting with a buddy for you.

Mini-Boss: Armadillo x2
Attacks: Flame Shot, Eruption, Bite, Roll, Berserker, Explode

Same boss fight from Chapter 7, only now there are two of them.  Launch
incendiary shurikens to the face, dodge when they roll around, blah blah blah.
Try to only focus on one at a time, and FOR CRAP'S SAKE, BLOCK WHEN EACH ONE
DIES!

Continue on until you get a cutscene.  There's a chest with the Herb of
Spiritual Life in it on your left as you walk down the path.  Some lesser
fiends will attack you afterwards.  Cut them down and continue on.  On your
left, in a small pool of lava, is a chest with Grains of Spiritual Life.  Grab
them, the grab a refill on incendiary shurikens from the dead ninja.  Backtrack
to Muramasa if you need more items, the continue on until you slide down to the
next area.

Undead ninja wolves will attack you here.  Fight them the same way you would
regular wolves.  Continue on and kill the fiends in this area.  There's a chest
on your right with red essence and a save point in front of you.

Save Point 2 to Save Point 3
New Enemy: Red Dragons

Some fiends will attack you here, along with a new enemy: Red Dragons.  The
dragons will be your main focus here.  They're strong and unbelievably hearty,
so it'll take a few combos to kill each one.  I recommend areil combos for
these guys.  Take everyone out and continue on, dropping down into the lava pit
below.

You'll land on a rock.  Use the Dragon Sword's Flying Swallow to jump to the
rock on your right.  Ghost fish will attack you here, so kill them and examine
the dead body for a Devil Way Mushroom.  Now make your way to the rock in the
center of the room.

Boss: Zedonius, part 2
Attacks: Twin Fireball, Pounce (in air only), Inferno, Punch, Kick, Grab

Zedonius is back.  What a shock.  Tecmo is obviously taking game design cues
from Capcom.  He has the same attack, so use the same tactics.  Your big
concern here is going to be the lava.

After you defeat Zedonius, grab the HEART OF MALEVOLENT FLAME.  Now jump to the
rocks on your left and grab the Grains of Spiritual Life from the body.  Go
back to the center rock and equip the Windmill Shuriken.  Charge it up and wing
it at the opening to kill the octopi that appear there.  Once they're all dead,
run across and save at the statue.

Save Point 3 to Chapter Boss
New Enemies: Spiderbots
             Centaurs

A chest on your left will have an Herb of Spiritual Life.  Take it and continue
on.  Buy what you need from Muramasa and encounter a new enemy in this bleak
forest: Spiderbots.  These things are annoyingly fast and powerful.  Kill all
of them in this area and jog along the left wall.  A dead ninja holds an Herb
of Spiritual Life just for you.

Continue along and kill more Spiderbots.  At the very end of the area, on the
left side is a chest with the Herb of Spiritual Life.  Grab it, backtrack to
Muramasa if you need to, and exit this area to fight the boss.

Boss: Volf, part 2
Attacks:  Scythe Combos, Punch, Kick, Rush, Pounce, Grab
Guards: Centaurs

A new enemy guards Volf: The Centaurs.  These guys will ride around the arena
and attack you with their spears, much like the Samurais from the first game.
Volf himself is still the same, though.  You can use the Inferno Ninpo on the
centaurs to kill them without much fuss.  Volf falls pretty easily to the
Piercing Void Ninpo.  You can also use heavy combos against him.

Chapter 13: The Underworld Abyss

It is said that those who walk the frozen abyss of the Underworld are doomed, 
forbidden to ever again see the light of the living. In pursuit of the 
Archfiend, Ryu encounters a beautiful prisoner -- or is it merely a phantasm 
created by the Fiends? Evil claws reach for Sonia; she has followed Ryu here. 
To return to the world of the living, Ryu must break through the barrier 
between illusion and reality.

Start to First Save Point

Grab the HEART OF BESTIAL STORM from Volf's cold dead body and exit the arena.
There's a Muramasa statue on the left.  Make good use of it, because it's the
only one in this stage and there's no backtracking.  Head up the stairs here
and open the door for a cutscene.

After the cutscene, you're trapped in a room with spiderbots.  Kill them and go
into the next room.  More spiderbots and a second cutscene await you here.  Go
to the next room after the cutscene to be accosted by zombies.  The room after
that holds fiends and gold fiends.  Gold fiends are just like the regular
fiends, except stronger.  Grab the Herb of Spiritual Life off the dead ninja
and continue on.

Grab the GIANT CRYSTAL SKULL in this area (and no, it doesn't do squat), and be
ambushed by some centaurs.  Use Ultimate Techniques to take them out.  Head to
the right and through the sphincter into the next room.  Kill the skeleton
scorpions here.  The chests in this room hold red essence, Grains of Spiritual
Life, and ghost fish.  Save your game.

Save Point 1 to Save Point 2

Backtrack to the room with the centaurs to face undead versions of the melees,
incendiaries, and mages.  Kill them all and enter the sphincter at the other
end of the room.  You're in a room with pulsing sacs.  Attack them and you'll
be attacked by undead BSC melees, undead incendiaries or undead Rasetsus.

Attack the sac on your left and go forward, then attack the sac on your left
again.  Continue down the path, opening sacs and killing whatever comes out.
At the end is a dead ninja with a Devil Way Mushroom.  Backtrack and go down
the only path that remains blocked by sacs.

The first one you open will have a fallen and long dead ninja on the right.  It
holds the Herb of Spiritual Life.  Continue on, opening sacs aplenty.  You'll
slide down two separate inclines.  After the second one, look for the save
statue on the right.  Ignore it for now.

Grab the arrow from the body behind the save statue, then backtrack on go left.
You'll be in a large chamber.  Kill the drakes that appear with charged shots,
then open the chest to the left of the entrance for red essence.  Now head
back to the save statue and do your thing.

Save Point 2 to Chapter Boss

Go back to the large chamber and make your way down the spiral.  The chest you
encounter has an Herb of Spiritual Life.  More drake will materialize.  Fight
them or ignore them if you want to.  A body at the very end of the spiral has a
second Herb of Spiritual Life.  Jump down to face the chapter boss.

Boss: Alexei, part 2
Attacks: Grab, Tornado Spin, Lightning Cast

*snck*  Seriously?  This is it?  The same Alexei from Chapter 4?  No new 
attacks or anything?  No guards?  No atomic weapons?  Just smack him around and
be done with it.

Chapter 14: Poisoned Blood

To save Sonia, Ryu fought his way through a sea of blood filled with vengeful 
spirits, reanimated by the evil of the Underworld. Now he confronts the Queen 
of the Greater Fiends in a final battle to the death. Dagra Dai's evil 
incantations are complete; the resurrection of the Archfiend is at hand. The 
Dragon Ninja walks the blade separating life and death.

Start to First Save Point

If you want, you can wing shurikens at Sonia.  It's an easy way to get the
Indomitable Spirit achievement.  Either way, grab the HEART OF AZURE LIGHTNING
and go through the sphincter into the next area.  Grab the Devil Way Mushroom
from the dead body and kill the spiderbots that attack you.

Go though the sphincter here, buy what you need and continue on.  Kill the
centaurs that attack you here, then grab arrows from the first body and a Devil
Way Mushroom from the second.  Go through the sphincter here into the next
room.  Save your game here.

Save Point 1 to Save Point 2

Enter the room after the save point and run across the water.  Some giant fish
will appear.  You can either attack them with the gatling spear gun or just
dodge them and continue running.  Either way, when you get to the stairs on the
other side, a chest on the left has red essence, and a body on the right has an
Herb of Spiritual Life.  Open the door for a cutscene and a two part boss
battle.

Boss: Genshin, part 4
Attacks: Hack'n'Slash, Flying Swallow, Rush, Counter Combo, Air Combo, Flame
   Attacks

Genshin's attacks are the same as the last fourteen and a half billion other
times you've fought him, with the exception that he now uses a lot of flame
based attacks.  He generally pauses before using them, giving you time to get
in a quick combo.  He's still bigger, faster, does more damage, and can now
interrupt your combo with one of his own.  Same strategy applies.  Block,
evade, smack him around, and get out of there before you get killed.

When you beat Genshin, he offers a non-apology for his actions and gives you
his sword, THE BLADE OF THE ARCHFIEND.  You now have a new version of the DCTF
with Genshin's sword and the True Dragon Sword.  Elizebet will attack you
directly.

Boss: Queen of the Greater Fiends Elizebet, part 2
Attacks: Flying Swallow, Tail Grab, Nail Claw, Tail Slap, Blood Helix

The butterfly bitch is back.  She has a new attack she'll rarely use, where she
summons blood to fall on you.  Otherwise, she's pretty much the same.  Kill her
quickly.  The Piercing Void Ninpo works well against her.

Grab the HEART OF CRIMSON BLOOD and go through the portal.  The chest holds an
Herb of Spiritual Life.  Buy and save your game.

Save Point 2 to End of Game

The hearts of your slain enemies will open the door.  No, I'm not kidding.  A
cutscene allows you to continue.  Kill the fiends and lesser fiends that accost
you here and walk until you get the cutscene.  Kill some more fiends and lesser
fiends after the cutscene and walk forward.  Open the giant green sphincter for
the last series of boss battles.

Boss: Infernal Priest Dagra Dai
Attacks: Piercing Void, Lightning, Summon Lesser Fiends

Dagra Dai has, in addition to his melee attacks, a variation of your Piercing
Void Ninpo that comes up from the ground.  He'll also cast lighting at you and
summon lesser fiends each time he flies into the air.  Dagra Dai will attack
you from the ground with basic melee attacks as well as his tentacles and
lightning.  Dagra also has an annoying tendency to teleport

His pattern is more or less this: Hover, summon lesser fiends, Piercing Void
and lightning, land on the ground and melee, then go back to the air and repeat
the cycle.

Dagra Dai is more of a pain in the butt than a difficult boss.  You can kill
the lesser fiends for essence if you want.  Use the Reverse Wind to evade his
air attacks, and spam Y combos when he lands.  You can use you Ninpo, but it
won't have much effect.  Make sure you don't use your Devil Way Mushrooms or
Spirit of the Devils (If you have one).

After you beat him, Dagra Dai sacrifices himself to the Archfiend.  Swim over
to the spit of land and open the chest for red essence.  Equip your bow and run
up the ramp until the cutscene.

Boss: Archfiend
Attacks: Slam, Blood Cough, Fiend Larva, Energy Laser, Tail Swipe

The Archfiend's attacks, as expected, do a massive amount of damage.  It will
slam it's fists into you.  It can also send out little Larva (much like the
Train Demon in Chapter 3) that will attack you.  When you hit it's head with a
charged arrow, it will cough up blood on you.  The Archfiend will also drop
down to your level and fire an energy laser at you.  At the end of each phase,
it'll swipe it's tail at you and open the next area.

Shoot a level 2 charged shot at the Archfiend's head, then use the Piercing
Void Ninpo on the glowing orb.  Charge another arrow and shoot it at the orb,
then repeat.  After you get the Archfiend's health to about 60%, it will swipe
at you with its tail and start to climb up.  Dodge and restock your arrows at
the body and kick flip up the wall to the next part of the battle.

The Archfiend lies in wait with some cheap attacks.  Dodge and/or weather them,
then use the same tactics as before.  Once you get the Archfiend to about 20%,
it'll climb up again.  Dodge it's tail swipe and climb up with it.

It's more of the same here, folks.  Dodge and weather the Archfiend's insanely
cheap attacks, then shoot a charged arrow at its head.  Ninpo/more charged
arrows at the orb and it will fall.

The cutscene shows some that hasn't been seen throughout the entire game: Ryu
bleeding.  A droplet of blood falls on the Archfiend, reviving him.

Boss: Archfiend, part 2
Attacks: Pound, Energy Laser, Grab, Fireballs, Lightning, Trample.

The Archfiend in its true form will attack from three places: the ledge, the
air, and the ground.  On the ledge it will pound at the ground, causing fire to
erupt, fire its energy laser in an arch, or try and grab you if you get too
close to its body. It will cast fireballs and lightning in the air, and fly
onto the ledge to try and trample you.

First, you can't hit the Archfiend when it's in the air.  Don't even try.  Just
use Reverse Wind to dodge it's attacks.  When it flies to you on the ledge,
melee the crap out of its legs.  My favorite time, to attack it, though, is
when its hanging off the ledge.  Get over by it's left claw and melee it, using
your favorite weapon.  When it pounds at the ground or uses it's energy laser,
use a Ninpo to avoid damage.  For as complicated as it sounds, the Archfiend's
true form is pretty easy once you understand how it attacks.

After you beat it, Ryu and Sonia watch the sun rise, the credits roll, and Ryu
plants Genshin's sword in the ninja graveyard at the base of Mount Fuji.  Save
one last time and try the game on a harder difficulty.  Congratulations!

****************

Katana Black Spider Clan Ninja (Pale Green Clothes)
Twin Black Katana Spider Clan Ninja (Pale Green Clothes)
Claws Black Spider Clan Ninja (Pale Green Clothes)
Archer Black Spider Clan Ninja (Pale Green Clothes)
Warlock Black Spider Clan Ninja (Purple Clothes)
White Black Spider Clan Ninja (Grey Clothes)
Incendiary Shuriken Black Spider Clan Ninja (Black and Red Clothes)

This is the whole of Genshin's Clan.  For the most part, the best strategy is
to dodge, block, and attack away.  This works well with the melee weapon
ninjas.  Stay out of the archers range, or they'll light you up at long range.
The Warlocks will shoot fireballs at you from afar, then teleport close to you
and attack with a sai-like weapon.  Dispatch both the archers and the Warlocks
with combos once you manage to worm your way in close.  The Incendiary Shuriken
Ninjas are back, and they're a massive pain.  They're faster, stronger, and
whip incendiary Shurikens at you from afar, then move in for the kill.  Dodge
as best you can, then unload on them when they get close.  The White Ninjas
are stronger form of the regular archers and melee weapon ninjas.


Ninja Wolves

Wolves with Tanto swords and incendiary Shurikens.  They announce themselves
before they attack by howling.  Whip out your favorite weapon, block, attack
and use Ninpo as needed.  The wolves are very difficult because they move
insanely quick, and when you start to attack one, several more will dive on you
and tear you apart.  Try to use Ultimate Techniques as much as possible.


Rocket Launcher Soldier
Ballistic Missile Soldier
Cyborg Ninja Soldier

Your basic army soldiers.  Treat the cyborg ninjas like the Black Spider Clan
ninjas.  They also fire sub-machine guns at you from a distance.  The Rocket
Launcher Soldiers and the Ballistic Missile Soldiers all follow the same
pattern.  Shoot, reload, rinse, repeat.  Block or dodge their shots, then get
in close and unload on them while they're reloading.  They'll pull swords on
you once they start loosing limbs.


Lesser Fiends
Fiends

Lesser use melee attacks and shoot purple forceballs from their mouth.  They 
also like to grab Ryu and pummel him or jump on Ryu and pound him.  Just use
your favorite attacks and combos to take them out.  Fiends are grey, winged,
stronger versions of lesser fiends.


Werewolves

Exactly the same as the Lesser Fiends, except they're a little stronger.  They
also don't use fireballs.  They throw bodies.  Use the same tactics as you use
with the Lesser Fiends.  There are two kinds: light brown and dark pink with
blonde tufts of fur.


Silver Water Scorpion
Blood Scorpion

The Water Scorpions balance on their tails and are fairly fast.  These little
nasties are absolutely lethal on water.  Don't even think about attacking them
there.  Get to dry land and use your favorite combos and Ultimate Techniques to
take them out.  The Water Scorpions use their arms and tails to attack you, and
they like to pounce on you to break your guard.  Once you get far enough into
the game, the silver Water Scorpions are replaced by a version covered in
blood.


Small Mech
Large Mech

The Mechs unleash a hail of bullets on you.  The large Mechs will also fly in
close to you and melee attack you.  Your best bet is to use the Flying Swallow
attack to get in close, then whip out the Scythe or the Tonfas and unload on
them.  Both Mechs will explode once you beat them, so get in, get them done,
and get out.


Mutants

The mutants have a cannon on one arm and a chainsaw on the other.  They're
hideously slow and hideously powerful.  They use the same tactics as the Lesser
Fiends and the Werewolves so use the same tactics as you used on the Lesser
Fiends and Werewolves.  And make sure you use some Ultimate Techniques.


Giant Fish

The giant fish make an appearance towards the end of the game.  They'll smack
you around if you try to get in close, and they'll grab you in their mouth and
toss you around if they can get in close.  Use the Gatling Spear gun to take
them out from a distance.


Water Mech

The Water Mechs launch rockets at you from afar.  Water run up to them and use
combos to take them out.  If you're quick, you can also target them with the
bow and arrow.


Giant Worms

These worms burrow around underground, then come up and try to smack you.  They
also like to grab you with their tongue,  Just use the Flying Swallow attack to
get close and unload on them.


Spiderbots

These three-legged half women, half robots aren't particularly strong, but
they're hardy.  Get in close and hammer them with whatever you have.  


Red Dragons

These Dragons are strong and fast. They'll attack you, spin in circles, and
breathe fire at you.  Use your strongest combos to kill them.


The Centaurs

The Centaurs appear at the end of the game, and are almost exactly like the
Samurai horsemen from NG.  They ride around and try to stab you or run you
over.  Use a combination of Ninpo and Ultimate Techniques to kill them.


Bats
Mutant Bats

Ah, the bats.  Easy to kill, they like to swarm on you and bite.  The Lunar and
Viggy Flails take care ore them with ease.


Jellyfish

They explode if you get near them, and don't have any other attacks. They tend
to respawn, so just use the Gatling Spear Gun and collect the essence they
leave behind.


Ghost Fish

They swarm you, bite you, and drag you underwater.  Mash buttons to get them
off you and use the Lunar or the Viggy Flails.  One hit kills them.


Skeleton Scorpions
Spiked Beetle
Mutant Spiked Beetles

All will try to jump on you or sting you.  Pick your favorite weapon, kill one,
then unload on the rest of the bunch with an Ultimate Technique for almost free
essence.
