Greetings fellow game players, my name is Brett and this is my first FAQ. I
have always wanted to contribute, but between school and work I have not had
the time. Fortunately I have been granted the opportunity to write this FAQ
for one of my favorite RPG series, Star Ocean. GameFAQs has been helping me
out since 97, its time I gave back.
This is my first FAQ so if anyone finds any inconsistencies or errors please
e-mail me so they can be fixed.
This will be a "generally" spoiler free walkthrough.
Anyway..enough about myself. Advance Forward!!!!!

Walkthrough
******************************************************************************
Before you Start
****************
In this Game The map is very helpful. Events or actions can be performed at
any ! exclamation symbol on the map. Depending on the type of action these
can be purple or pink in color.
Also visible on the map will be the Save point/Rejuvenation Point symbol. It
Appears as a rather unique floating orb.
Open every chest you find, you gain experience and Party skill points for open
ing chests. Even if you have a full 20/20 items from a chest, drop some of
them so you can open the chest and get that valuable experience and SP.
You can drop items by hitting the Select button on the item screen.
Save the stat boosting seeds and bizarre fruit you find throughout the game.
A small stat boost may be nice but they are nothing when compared to the
benefits of synthesizing those boosts into weapons and armour later on in the
game. If you use them up it can take hours to find more.
Calnus 0001
***********
The story begins aboard the Calnus. Go down the Stairs from the training room
and through the door with the save point beside it. This is the bridge of the
Calnus. Talk to Reimi to Trigger a cut scene.
Aeos 0002
*********
Aeos : Landing Point
--------------------
Items in this area:
*Snipers Bangle
*Blueberries x3
*Blackberries x2
*Iron x1
*Insect egg x2
*Herb harvest point x1
Talk to Rich (a soldier standing at the base of the Calnus stairs) to receive
the Snipers Bangle. Talk to Reimi and everyone else while collecting all the
items laying around. When you have collected all the items Talk to Reimi again
to trigger a cut scene and proceed.
And in case you are wondering what to do with the harvest point, you can do
nothing until Reimi is in your party.
Aeos : Landing Point Cont.
--------------------------
Items in this area:
*Big berries
*Wind Gem
*Iron x2
*Insect leg
Warped Carapace
*Herb harvest point x2
*Ore Mining Point x3
That gigantic scrap of metal which previously blocked the path is now gone
and you are free to explore. Pick up any items you find along the way.
With Reimi in the party you now have the ability to utilize the herb harvest
points. This is accomplished by pressing b. You will receive different items
based upon how high a level Reimis 'harvest' skill is. For example, at level
1 you will likely get one type of item - maybe 2. At level 10 (max) you will
likely receive 4 different items one or two of each. If you happen to have
any extra skill points, put them on Reimes 'harvest' skill and max it out as
soon as possible.
Aeos : Urd Falls Cave
---------------------
Items in this area:
*Iron x2
*203 fol
*Blackberries x2
*Blueberries x2
*Fresh sage x2
*Fresh sage
*Defense seeds
*Ore mining Point x3
*Herb harvest point
Follow the cave through to the other side, its really more of a tunnel than
a cave. Watch the walls for 'holes' surrounded in green moss; search them to
find items.
Aeos : Northern Coast
---------------------
Items in this area:
*Natural water x2
*Wind gem
*Attack seeds
*Ore mining point x2
*Herb harvest point x3
*Iron x3
In this area you will find both a Rejuvenation point and a Save point. Use
them as you see fit before jumping down onto the beach area. There is a boss
coming up so I advise saving.
Once you jump onto the beach head toward the wounded soldier on the ground
to trigger a cut scene.
You now face.... Armaros!!!
*********
*Armaros*
*********
Armaros is quite tough for a first boss. To fold him like yesterdays laundry
just attack but save your MP. His shell will absorb a lot of damage and
it will seem as though your not really getting anywhere. After sustaining
a certain amount of damage to his shell he will change his stance revealing
his weak point. At this point unleash all your strongest attacks, combos,
and blindsides to ruin his day.
Once Armaros falls, head back to the Calnus through Urd falls cave at the end
of the beach.

Son of a building block! There is a huge base erected where the Calnus was..
Head inside and track down the captain to trigger another cut scene and
advance forward. Also stock up on any items you may need at the stores. There
is also a bridge which leads the way to another area west of the base. (west
being referred from the map when you press start).
Aeos : Northern Coast
---------------------
Items in this area:
*Big berries
*Chest shrouded in darkness
Not much here except a good shortcut to the beach and an darkness chest.
You cannot open this yet, nor will you be able to for a while. Just leave
it for now and head back to the exploration base.
I will provide a list of Dark energy chests later in the walkthrough, once
you gain the ability to open them.
Aeos : Exploration Base
-----------------------
Talk to the Captain again, and a cut scene will ensue. You are promoted to
captain of the Calnus! Woot Woot!
Calnus

Go to the main console to travel to Lemarus. Before getting there you have
the opportunity to perform some private actions, gather and complete quests,

Talk to the guy right beside the entrance to get some basil. You can sleep
for free in one of the houses, so use that to your advantage. Head to the
biggest house to trigger a cut scene and advance forward.
You now have Lymle in your party. She is annoying.
Head back out into Thalia plains again. Go across the bridge towards the
frozen lake to Alanaria Citadel.

You will face....Dragon Newt!!!
*************
*Dragon Newt*
*************
I can offer no strategy for this Boss as he is far too easy. Just unload on
him with everything you have.
After you defeat him you will find a sealed chest on the balcony. After
sliding down the tapestry you will find the chain combo chest, grab it before
leaving.
There will be a village visible in the distance.

*Bigberries x2
Blueberries x2
*Vile goop
*51 fol
*Farie orchid
*Health seeds

Thanks to the Treasure sense skill acquired in the Citadel, you will be able
to all treasure on the map. A green patch of grass indicates Herb harvest
points and the Tan stone indicates Ore mining points. And in case you were
wondering the Treasure chests indicate Treasure chests.
Triom (revisited)
-----------------
Go and talk with the elder. A cut scene will occur and you will acquire the
fire ring. Talk to the mysterious woman standing by the tree in the center of
the village to have your ring charged for free. You may now open the ice chest
found in the village by the entrance.
Head toward Wind swallow valley. To get there head down to the frozen lake in
Thalia plains and you will find an area blocked by a huge block of ice. Bust
out the fire ring and show that ice who is boss!
Wind swallow valley
-------------------
Items in this area:
*Ore mining point x3
*Blueberries x2
Wind swallow valley... not much to it. Just walk straight through.
Celestial Ship 0005
*******************
Celestial Ship 1st floor
------------------------
items in this area:
*Plastic explosive
*Blackberries x4
*Bigberries x2
*S.manual 'Critical hit'
*Ice chest <Bigberries, Blueberries x4>
The Celestial ship is not a very big dungeon. You will find plastic explosive
scattered all over (they appear as a twinkle of light as you walk by them).
You can use these by placing them on doors (most of which are locked) and
using the fire ring to detonate them or by placing the explosive on a door
with damaged electrical wires exposed near the door.
If you happen to run out of plastic explosive, and still have some doors to
open just leave the ship and re-enter to re-spawn the explosives.
You will be ecstatic to find you are now able to open all chests encased with
ice, with your trusty fire ring.
Follow the map to the center of the ship. Check the console and a Cut scene
will occur. After that you may access the central elevator.
Celestial Ship 2nd floor
------------------------
Items in this area:
*Fresh sage x2
*Ice chest <Power bracelet>
Use the Save point and the Rejuvenation point and prepare for a battle.
You now Face Barachiel!!!
***********
*Barachiel*
***********
To wipe the floor with Barachiel set your BEAT to Rush mode. Also have a few
points on the 'Critical Hit' skill. This boss is not hard but he has some
powerful attacks so keep your HP up at all times.
Once he falls, a cut scene occurs and then its time to head back to the Triom.
Watch the Cutscene at Triom and then head back to the Calnus.
Calnus
------
Aboard the Calnus you can now choose to travel back to Aeos or go on to the
Cardianon mothership.
Also you now have the ability to create items.
Before departing to the Cardianon mothership, stock up on items as there will
be no shops for quite a while.

There a a few things to do here:
1.View the cut scene of frozen cardianon in stasis.
2.Check the console outside the stasis room to 'electrify it'.
3.Charge the thunder ring up on the electrified console.
4.Get the ID off the corpse in the frozen cardianon room.
5.Use the thunder ring on the locked door you passed earlier and register the
ID
6.Open the door with the registered ID to trigger cut scene.

Control tower
-------------
Items in this area:
*Streaked chain mail
*Compact stun bomb x8
This area is like a slap in the face. You haven't saved for a long time and
you are hours into a lengthy dungeon. When will the madness end!!??
If you have managed to maintain sanity until this point congratulations.
Anyway..
The force fields open someways but not others, some you have to run into
before they turn off.
The stairs you want to get to are the ones at the northern most part on the
map.
The only advice I can offer at this point is to muddle through as best you
can. Using the map helps.
Stock up on any items you need at yet another Store in the wall.
Control tower generator area
----------------------------
Items in this area:
*Sturdy bracelet
*Poison Cider
If you happen to make it down here grab the items and go back upstairs.
there is nothing to do here.. yet.
Control tower 1st floor
-----------------------
Items in this area:
*Element breaker x2
*Booster wand
Here you will find more force fields. They suck. This floor is a lot easier to
navigate than the first area with force fields.
Control tower 2nd floor
-----------------------
Items in this area:
*Compact poison bomb x4
*Ice Chest <S.manual 'Mind flare'>
*Power bracelet
Once again, don't continue on without taking opening the Ice chest.

This area has a rotating turntable in the center of the room. Grab the items

Use the save point, you have finally reached the boss.
You now face.... Sahareil!!!
**********
*Sahareil*
**********
No real strategy for this guy. Just keep your Hp max and use ripeberries to
supplement you magic healing. Criticals and blindsides will dominate this
sucka.
After beating him, follow the path and dash your way to freedom. The path will
lead back down to the Control tower generator area. A cut scene will then
ensue and you will escape the mothership.. but not really...
Calnus
------
Back on the Calnus talk to everyone and another cutscene will occur involving
a black hole... sweet jesus!!! Just when you thought it was over...
But wait.. you arrive at Earth...except...now your in the past..whoa.

remotely by Klause.
Follow the hallways and save at the save point. Don't forget the Ice chest as
you will not be able to return after escaping.
If you feel like fighting, the enemies here will give a buttload of
experience.
If you don't feel like fighting (I sure didn't) follow the halls to the save
point and prepare for another boss.
You now face...the Genomic beast!!!
***************
*Genomic beast*
***************
This beasts rush gauge rises very rapidly. Avoid him while he's in rush mode,
and hit him with everything you have when he is not rushing. He is not too
difficult but has an annoying rush attack.
After the beast falls, it is time to escape.
Experiment area
---------------
Items in this area:
*Foal snaps
*Plasma cannon
*Compact stun bomb
*Fresh sage
*Ice chest <Compact freezing bomb x3>
Be sure to grab the Plasma cannon and the Ice chest. You will see a cut scene
and escape the planet.
Calnus
------
Somehow you make it back to the future. Anyway.... Bacchus suggests landing on
nearby planet Roak for repairs.
It is your only option as the engine is ruined.
You also have Meracle at you disposal now. She is cute and annoying. Joy....

If there was a way to go on vacation somewhere in a video game, this is one
beach I would certainly visit.
This is a vast area. Search along the shoreline to score some items. You will
eventually see a cut scene involving a fluffy bunny.
Also, with Bacchus in the party, you can mine for ore. If you have any
extra skill points spend them on his 'mining' skill.

You will witness a few cut scenes involving flaming zombies and fluffy
bunnies. Yes ... I'm not kidding... lol big time..
If you happen to own a HD tv, it looks like the you could pet the bunny
through the screen....simply amazing graphics.
Anyway..
Off to Astral city. Head back into Tatroi and head to the barge in town. It is

You will find 126 fol on the floor of the 1 stop shop. Besides that there is
not much to do here, (You will likely be low on funds thanks to the shops in
Tatroi), so just head to the Castle.
To gain access to the Treasure hunter weapons shop you must complete the quest
'The careless shopkeeper'. You will find the careless shopkeeper outside of
his weapons shop in Astral after defeating the Black eagle. He will ask you
to find his key, as he had lost it in the bar the night before. Go to the
Tatroi bar and ask the bartender who will be standing outside the bar to
get the key.
Castle
------
Items in this area:
*Health seeds
*Herb harvest point
*Famed sword 'Veinslay'
Behind the throne you can find Veinslay in a chest.
Not much to do here except watch a cut scene. Then you gotta 'hit the streets'
to find the Black eagle.
Head back into Astral city. Question a few people, (nobody knows anything),
then head back to Tatroi. Head to the Colosseum and talk to the guy out front.
You can also talk to the the old lady by the goods stand. Head down to the
city entrance and you will find that it is guarded. Talk to the guards then
head back to the Colosseum to gain entrance.
Colosseum
---------
You don't actually get the opportunity to explore the Colosseum yet. You just
fight the Black eagle
You now face... Black eagle!!!
*************
*Black eagle*
*************
This is a one on one fight between Edge and the Black eagle. Its not too tough
although I must admit that I died while fighting him. Just pay attention to
your HP, as his attacks pack a punch. Give him the taste of a few blindsides
and critical attacks then, unlike myself, you should be victorious on your
first try.
You now may explore the Colosseum
Items in this area:
*Bunny feed
*10 fol
*S.manual 'Berserk'
Not much to do here yet, so just head back out to the tent outside Tatroi
and try to catch a bunny.
You will find the bunny in the 'Tatroi area' just outside of the city. Go
across the bridge closest to the tent, and you should be able to find a bunny
in the forested area after you cross.
Also You can find a Bow weapon inside the tent, grab it before heading into
the desert.
You can travel into the desert now, which is accessible from the hole in the
stone wall outside of Tatroi.

*Silver chalice

*Bandits gloves
*9856 fol
*Defense seeds
*Herb harvest point x3
*Ore mining point x4
This is a big area to explore. You can examine the sickly looking Cacti in the
area but cannot do anything about them yet.
If you want the harvest and ore points you will have to ditch the bunny. If
you enter the quicksand you will appear near the entrance to the desert you
came in from. Grab everything laying around and head to the next area.
BOOO YAAAA !!!!!
Congratulations you are now on Disc 2!!!
Tropp area
----------
Items to find in this area:
*Bigberries x3
*Magic capacitor
*Ebony
*4445 fol
*Platinum
*Herb harvest point x3
*Ore mining point x2
Check the shoreline beside Tropp to find the platinum. Then enter the city of
Tropp.
Now if you are like me and you see a chest or mining/harvest point and cannot
resist the incredible urge to recklessly obtain the contents of said chest
or mining/harvest point without any regard to personal safety, then you will
lose your bunny and be stuck in the desert.
Never fear, you can always take the shortcut through the cave to the
Purgatorium, you will find the entrance close to some ancient looking pillars.
In addition you may wonder "gee, I would certainly like another fluffy bunny
to ride" well fear not, you may 'catch' more fluffy bunnys not far outside of
Tropp under a tree cluster.

Then its back off to Tropp. woo hoo...
At Tropp you will be able to enter the residence of Lady Elayna and after a
Cut scene you will have the key to the Purgatorium.
And on top of all that you will gain Myuria as a party member.
Hooray!!!
Off to the Purgatorium!......again.
You will now be able to open the blocked door and continue on in the dungeon.
It is at this point you will be able to obtain 'Trap evasion'.

The key to this dungeon is to light the urns which the statues point at. If
you fail you fight an enemy. This same puzzle is replicated many times in the
dungeon, sometimes the statue will point to an urn that is behind a wall.
In one of the rooms you will encounter a boss.
You now face...Guardian

This guy has a lot of HP, just blindside and combo him to death.
You will receive the Light ring which allows you to open any chests which are

throughout the dungeon.

This guy can be quite difficult. He will spawn minions. Get rid of them.
He is quite easy at first but gets much harder when he is about to die. Use
everything you have at your disposal (strength potions, hyper potions, etc.)
and try to avoid that horrible laser move he has..He can also counter your
blindsides quite well so set your BEAT to Rush.
Send him flailing back to his god, then head back to Tropp

A cut scene will occur and Sarah will join the party. You will also receive a
distress signal to return to Aeos.
You may also take this opportunity to perform private actions, collect new

********
*Ambush*
********
Normally an ambush in this game is a good thing, giving you a SP bonus on the
bonus board. This however is not the case, this battle is hard. you will
face 7 waves of Phantom soldiers. Be prepared to pull out all the stops using
everything you have to give yourself the advantage. I used the following
strategy to win (after being stomped a few times).
1.Set your characters to 'Gang up with full force'
2.Control your best healer in battle.
3.Use EM bombs if you have any they are really effective in this battle.
4.Use DEF, INT, and ATK boosting items at the start of battle.
5.Eat any stat raising food you may have prior to battle.
6.Craft anti-silence into weapons and Armour and use anti-silence charms.
7.Keep HP up and heal anyone that dies immediately.
Using any or all of these methods will ensure success. If you still have a
problem try synthesizing some additional attack onto your weapons.
After defeating the enemy hoards there will be a cut scene and you will lose
Faize and gain Arumat as a new character.

*Armaros Manifest*
******************
This boss can go one of two ways. 1. He will kill you and make you wish you
were never born. 2. You will kill him within 2 minutes of the battle starting.
I went with option 1 the first time I fought it. I managed to juggle it for
a whopping 850 hit combo. Unfortunately I ran out of healing and resurrection
items after half an hour of fruitless attacking.
For option #2 follow this strategy:
1.Set your attacking Characters BEAT setting to blindside. (It will be all
the better if some of your characters have the ability to enter combos
while after performing a blindside).
2.Use anything that will raise your stats prior to and during battle.
3.Attack until rush gauge is full.
4.Enter blindside with rush mode and watch him die.
5.LOL, as Armaros falls within minutes of the battle beginning.
This may take 2 or 3 blindsides depending on your level and weapons. His weak
point is exposed with a blindside attack. This is the key to his defeat.
For all intents and purposes you are now done on the planet Roak. Go to the
Colosseum to battle and check the towns for some new quests.
After wrapping up the loose ends. head to the Calnus

"Anything you guys want - we got", Anything you wanna do - do it".
~Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the movie
This place has everything. Upgrade your equipment and get some new skills,
then head to the old road to the sanctuary.
To open the Magical foods shop you must complete the quest 'the secret recipe'
which you receive in the shopping area from the Magical chef. To find the
secret recipe have someone pickpocket the researcher in the flora and fauna
shop. It is the same person who gives you the fireflies quest.
Don't forget to visit the Imitation gallery, a hidden shop. To find it look at
the eastern portion of the map. Similar to Tatroi or Astral there is a alley
which heads off on its own. Go there to find the shop. Recipe memo #23 is
inside.
Old road to the sanctuary 0013

Old road to the sanctuary
-------------------------
Enter the sanctuary and you will find a big wall covered in vines with a guy
standing beside it. He will tell you to get the Wind ring to get rid of the
vines. This is a quest and it must be complete to continue past the viney
wall.
Centropolis
-----------
The guy beside the viney wall will suggest to talk to the Front desk shop
owner. Go there and he will tell you it was buried under one of the graves in
the graveyard. Head up to the graveyard and search the second row of graves
immediately right of the stairs. On the last grave you will find a note that
says:
"Do not disturb the graves of our fallen comrades. I have left the ring
with the unyielding graveskeeper".
This is somewhat of a riddle. There is no grave keeper in town (I talked to
everyone). The people in the graveyard are mourning and don't know anything.
So what is unyielding and serves as a grave keeper? How bout the big tree?
Search it to find the ring Then head back to the Old road to the Sanctuary.

There are a number of floating diamond shaped things in this area. When you
enter the area that surrounds them all enemies will be alerted to your

Fortunately you can destroy these terrible floaty diamonds by blasting them

Once destroyed, the aura of dark energy surrounding them disappears and you

This is a cool place. It is easy to navigate and there is lots of open space,
making it easy to avoid enemies if you are weary from many battles.
This is also where the dungeon gets weird. You can get to area 4 or 5 from

*Chest shrouded in darkness <Holy sword 'Farewell'>
*Chest engulfed in flames
*Meteorite
This is a good area to visit because you will receive the a strong new weapon,
and there is a rejuvenation point. Use the point to gain a level or two before
heading back to area 4.
There is a door here that has swirling energy blocking the way. You cannot
open this yet so just keep going.
Area 4
------
Muddle through the portals as best you can to reach area 7. This of course
will be the entrance to area 7 that has you enter the top part above the
stairs that turn to dust.
Area 7
------
Don't go down the stairs, there is no way back up. Use the Serpent staff on
the chains to the pendulum. You now may cross and head to the next area.
Audience chamber
----------------
This is it. Save your game and head up the freaky stairs.
You now face...The Apostle of creation!!!
*************************
*The Apostle of creation*
*************************
This first part is not too hard just unleash your best attacks and juggle him
around. he will fall without too much trouble
After he falls you will see a cut scene and have navigate through a dark
tunnel. Follow the light, that is the key. If you touch the crystals that
seem close, you will have the opportunity to fight previous bosses.
Once you get to the light, another cut scene occurs and the real fight begins.
You now face...Satanail!!!
**********
*Satanail*
**********
This guy is tough. You will not be able to damage him at all until you destroy
the colorful balls surrounding him. I was on level 66 when fighting him and I
defeated him on my first try. Just keep everyone alive, keep HP maxed,
increase your stats prior to (with food) and during the battle(angel feather).
Play carefully and you will be victorious.
you will now view the exiting conclusion to the star ocean story and a special
character ending, which will be different depending on who you interacted with
the most during private actions.
******************************************************************************
******************************************************************************
At this point you may walk away and never play star ocean again. But
technically you are not finished the game.
Star ocean offers the opportunity to test your metal against powerful hordes
unlike any you have faced. It also gives you the opportunity to create and
synthesize the most powerful weapons.
You still face powerful enemies and multiple dungeons of hellish nightmares.
Personally I think that walking away now is like walking out on a movie 30
minutes before the ending. It is a complete and utter waste.
Feel like taking the challenge? then save your clear data, and reload.
You will start at the last save point which is in the audience chamber. Head
to the big room on the left as you head up the audience chamber stairs.
You now face...The Dark Dragon!!!
*************
*Dark Dragon*
*************
If you can beat the 'end boss' you should have no problem with the dark dragon.
Unleash the beast on this guy until he falls and you will receive the
darkness ring for your efforts.
With that ring you can open up all the holy light chests. Most of these
contain the final moves for each of the characters. I advise opening them
before continuing to the next dungeon.
Here are the locations that you will want to visit with the light ring.
*Alanaria citadel 3rd floor balcony (Chest --> S.manual 'Trinity blaze')
*Purgatorium b4 (Chest --> S.manual 'Savage sparrows')
*Miga insect warren B4 (Chest --> S.manual 'Dragon roar')
*Old road to sanctuary (Chest --> S.manual 'Godslayer')
*Halls of termination (Chest --> S.manual 'Plasma cyclone')
*Palace of creation 6th floor (holy light wall)
*Tatroi Colosseum (holy light door)
Head across the hall from where you fought the Dark dragon to be transported
back to the Calnus. When your ready head to the Colosseum at Tatroi. enter and
head around the perimeter. You will find a holy light doorway. Vanquish the
holy light and enter.
Seven star dungeon 0016
***********************
This place can be tough but if you have everyone's final special arts
(especially Arumat's Dragon roar) you will be fine. Be prepared to gain at
least 10-20 levels per each of the 7 levels.
Basement 1
----------
Items in this area:
*Aquaberries x2
*Platinum
*Bracetate
*Cane
*Stone fragment
Area boss:
*****************
*Temple Guardian*
*****************
Personally I think this guy was easier than the dark dragon. Unleash the fury
on him and he will fall easily
Grab the stone fragment and head back to the beginning of the dungeon. There
will be four reliefs surrounding the ball of light u can search to move up and
down in the dungeon. Place the stone fragment in the relief which is not lit
up.
You may now access Basement 2.
Basement 2

Items in this area:
*Ripeberries

*Red eagle ranger *
*Blue eagle ranger *
*White eagle ranger*
*Black eagle ranger*

These guys can be a handful. Focus on one at a time in no particular order.
Set tactics to Gang up on foes. Use lots of area attacks (hound grenade,
dragon roar, explosion). Blindsides work well too. Once one of them falls keep
the heat on and the rest will fall shortly afterword.
Now that you have the moonstone you may be tempted to use it. Don't do it.
Save that precious moonstone and soon (basement 7) you will gain the ability
to duplicate it. Just pretend you never found it and continue on.
Place the stone fragments in the unlit reliefs and head to the next area.
Basement 3
----------
Items in this area:

Attack from a distance, building your rush guage meter, until he rears up
exposing his core. Once exposed uleash the fury, rinse and repeat.
Once he falls put the stone fragments in the Reliefs. And head down to the
next area.
Basement 4

There is no boss in this area. Whoop whoop!!
If you have your bonus board filled with exp bonus (mine was about 80%) you
can fight those trees for a whopping 200000 exp +. Good for some easy level
increases.
Place the stones in the reliefs and head onward.
Basement 5

Items in this area:
*Unicorn lance
*Stone fragment
*Chest shrouded in darkness <Shadow rose>
*Fresh sage

I ended up fighting Shadow Arumat, Reimi, and Sara. I dont know if they are
fixed or randomly chosen.
In any case, they are not hard, just keep on the heat and they will fall.
Once you have dusted them, place the fragments in the reliefs and go to the
next area.
Basement 6
----------
Items in this area:
*Stone fragment
*Stone fragment
*Chest suffused with holy light <S.manual 'Scintillant stream'>

There are 2 area bosses. O boy!
Area boss:
******************************
*Custom newt & Custom dragoon*
******************************
The dragoon is weak to blindsides. The newt is just weak period, although he
has a lot of HP. Gang up on them one by one to crush them quickly.
Area boss:
*****************
*Wrathful Tamiel*
*****************
This is a tough battle. It was tough the first time you fought him it is even
tougher now. The same general strategy applies. Keep the heat on and dont let
his minions get on top of you. Watch out for the laser attack.
Place the stone fragments and head to the next level.
Basement 7
----------
Items in this area:
*S.manual 'Duplication'
*Void recovery unit
*Seven star cloak
*Thorstone
*Chest suffused with light <Star dipper>
Area boss:
******************
*Barachiel fallen*
******************
This guy is not hard. He does a smashing attack which exposes his weak point
on his tail. He is weak to blindside attacks as well. Keep moving building
up rush meter until he exposes himself - then unleash the dragon on him
(figurativly it involves no real dragon) and he will fall.
Now Barachial Fallen may be more difficult than I let on. The second I got the
duplicate skill, I maxed it out and began to synthesize monsterously powerful
weapons. I then returned to the dungeon after many hours of collecting magical
clay and synthing. See the FAQ for more details.
Now that you have the star dipper you can collect those wierd floating stars
on each level
Basement 1 --> Star of Reason
Basement 2 --> Star of Life
Basement 3 --> Star of Being
Basement 4 --> Star of Fortune
Basement 5 --> Star of Justice
Basement 6 --> Star of Faith
Basement 7 --> Star of Ruin
Once you have collected all the stars SAVE YOUR GAME. Head back down to the
7th level of the dungeon and make your way to the swirling energy patch.
You will be transported to the Core of the Seven stars inner sanctum
Inner sanctum
-------------
Items in this area:
*Ice chest <Water ring>
*S.manual 'Max shockwave'
Once you have collected the items head to the middle platform.
You now face...Gabriel celeste!!!
*****************
*Gabriel Celeste*
*****************
Holy Guacamole' this guy is tough. There are many ways to defeat him. I
encourage developing your own strategy. The method I used to stomp him was:
I used Edge, Meracle, Reimi, and Sara. I Set Edge to manual so he does
nothing. I Set Reimi to 'attack with full force' and set Sara to 'stay out of
trouble'. I then used Meracle (cause shes fast) and taunted Gabriel until he
began to chase her around. When Reimi would attack (Hunters moon, Savage
sparrows or Crimson squall), I would spam Gabe with a double X-claw combo.
When he was rushing I would lure him around allowing Reimi to continuosly
attack. Then hit him with a few rush combos whenever Meracle had here rush bar
filled. Using this method I killed him in under 10 minutes.
I dont like the idea of using such cowardly tactics. But this guy is H-A-R-D.
I was on Level 177 the first time I fought him (and lost horribly I might add)
The second time I fought him I was level 200.
After winning he you reicieve Gabriels feather, which is a rare and important
item creation ingredient.
Congratulations....again. You have beaten the toughest boss in the Seven star
dungeon.
But wait if you call now, you can face another dungeon! with and even more
powerful enemy! O Boy!
Heres how to order!
Head over to EN II. Go to the Old road to the sanctuary. Talk to Bargo (the
first guy you see hanging outside the entrance to the elevator) and he will
tell you that a new dungeon has appeared. Agree to enter and he will send you
to the Wandering dungeon.
Before you go you may want to visit these locations with your Water ring.
*Purgatorium 1st floor <Chest --> Lightning sword>
*Seven star dungeon basement 4 <Chest --> Bizarre fruit>
*Seven star dungeon basement 5 <Chest --> Golden Chalice>
*Palace of creation Area 6 <Chest --> Intelligence seeds x2>
Wandering dungeon 0017
**********************
The wandering dungeon is unique compared to the other dugeons you may have
faced thus far. Its defining features are:
1.Every level is randomly generated.
2.All the treasure is randomly generated.
3.There are no save points.
The only constant is the boss encounters, which occur every second floor.
On the odd leveled dungeons you must complete a task given to you by locating
and examining a strange pillar. There are three tasks randomly generated,
which include:
1."Defeat our assassins" This is an ambush of a number of fights (the number
depends on how deep you are in the dungeon) of the local enemies of that
level.
2."Destroy the abhorrant crystals" For this task you must run around to each
room in the level searching and destroying colored crystals. Each crystal
correspondes to an element, and requires the elemental rings to destroy.
Expect to use Lymles 'charge' skill often.
3."Show us 'x' amount of Geostones" For this task you must seek out geostones,
which are only available in the wandering dungeon. You can obtain them from
enemies or chests. This is the most arduous chore as you absolutly have to
fight enemies to complete this task. This can take a long time.
I offer the following advice for the Wandering dungeon.
*Collect geostones ASAP - The first 5 levels of the dungeon, almost all of the
enemies drop geostones. Fight them until you have 20, regardless of what task
you are given from the pillar. If you have to use some before level 6, fight
again until stocked up.
On levels 6-12 the enemies change and they drop significantly less geostones.
If you get asked to show geostones, collection can take hours! Stock up early
to avoid this. Also, it may be coincidence, but when I stock up on geostones
it seems that the frequency of the task "show us x amount of geostones" is
reduced. Either way it is a good idea to stock up.
In addition, if you reach a point in the dungeon where the enemies change
(every 6 levels), and you are required to give geostones, the pillar will
take all your geostones regardless of the amount asked for. This is the only
drawback to stocking up early. (This is not really a drawback at all as long
as you can get past levels 6-12).
On a final note, geostones transfer from dungeon level to dungeon level but
they disappear completely if you leave the dungeon. So don't stock up and
then leave.
*Open all chests - Unless you are rushing straigt through to level 20. Chests
in this dungeon usually contain crap (I opened a 1 fol chest more than once)
and can be very time consuming to open them all. There are also treasures
which are exclusive only to the wandering dungeon (such as the Plate of the
Lost Monarch, Blazing wand, Blood Scepter, and Absolute protector) that you
can find as well.
Here are some of the items I found on my first attempt levels 1-19: Geostone,
Moonstone, Magic clay, S.manual 'INT boost', Defense seeds, Patent Protection
seeds, Philosophers stone, Infinity saber, Intelligence seeds, Trident
harpoon, and 20000+ fol.
*Levels 10 and up search EVERY room in each proceeding level for a chance to
find Santa. Santa is a funny alien who sells some really good stuff for
tons of money. He may show up at level 11, he may show up on level 19, or he
may show up on 11 and 19. His appearance is random, like everything else in
the dungeon. Also, he will not appear on the map unless you are in the same
room as he is - you HAVE to check every room to find him...bummer. Keep in
mind he will only be in the terminating end rooms, never in the connecting
corridors.

There are a few more reasons to attempt the dungeon besides Santa's shop.
1.Philosophers stone - Needed to create some of the most powerful weapons
and armour in the game. Can be found in a chest or as a drop from the
enemy 'Damascus Fort' found level 16 and up.
2.Dragon god scale - Also for item creation, can be obtained as a drop from
Dominator dragons (level 16 and up) they also drops Dragon blood crystal
as well, which are not as useful but still rare.
3.Micro heavy ion collider - for creating Bacchus last weapon, dropped from
Little mutant (level 12 and up).
4.Ethereal queens feather - For creating the final weapons and armour in
item creation. You get one from the Ethereal queen on level 20.
The dungeon bosses are the only constant in the wandering dungeon. They are
a useful indicator as to finding out what level you are on. (the map does not
tell you).
I will assume if you are capable of defeating Gabriel, you can handle
the enemies and bosses in the wandering dungeon (with the exception of the
Ethereal queen) Here is a list of the bosses you will face and some bare bones
suggestions on defeating them.
Level 2 - Prehistoric psynard
"Hey uh Edge I couldnt eat the bird in the main story, so can I eat
him here?" ~Meracle
Casts explosion a lot, this can be annoying. Not hard at all just
open up a can of the usual Kick A$$ and he will fall.
Level 4 - Ring Beast + Lizard tyrant x2
The tyrants pose no threat at all..and well...neither does the Ring
beast. Avoid his rush attack as it can knock you down and interrupt
your moves. Annoying.
Level 6 - Arch spellmaster & Chimera beast
The Arch spellmaster is a normal enemy in the dungeon. If you focus
your attention on the chimera beast, you will find the spellmaster
dies rather quickly in the crossfire.
Level 8 - Incomplete Armaros
Same strategey as first Armaros. Take it easy until weak point is
exposed and then obliterate him with your best moves.
Level 10 - Armaros Manifest II
This guy is the hardest fight in the dungeon besides Ethereal
queen. The strategy is the same as before (blindeside to attack
his tail weakness), but the minions he spawns are tough. Get rid
of them with an area affect attack before even trying to attack
Armaros. Ressurection units help a lot. Do not let his minions
get on top of you or it will be game over.(Probably 2 hours +
completely wasted as well).
Level 12 - Runaway dragon
Taunt him and have him chase you around blindsiding as he
approaches. The rest of your team will continually attack and he
will fall. Not as half as hard as Manifest II.
Level 14 - Kokabiel Risen
Two words: Dragon roar. Its hilarious how fast he falls with a
constant torrent of Dragon roar coming his way. Certainly the
easiest boss in the dungeon.
Level 16 - Shadow Edge, Bacchus, and Myuria
A. You outnumber them. B. They're not that tough.
Show them whose moves are better and they will fall.
Level 18 - Shadow Meracle, Lymle, and Faize
Finally the opportunity to boot Lymle, Faize, and Meracle into
next week. You know you want to. Its not like they make it hard
for you....
Level 20 - Ethereal queen
This is it, the most powerful enemy in the game. Bring your game
face to this fight. Your characters should be at level 200 or
higher. You will also need the best weapons and armour you can get
your mitts on. Even that may not be enough. Just remember, while
she is difficult, she is not impossible.
Says Luke Skywalker: "I won't fail you! I'm not afraid".
Replies Yoda: (grimly) "Oh! You will be". "You will be".
~ Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back
If you can defeat 6 wing Gabriel without breaking a sweat, you
should be prepared for the Queen.
She is very similar to Gabriel attack wise (powerful melee and
high level attack magic), with 2 notable exceptions:
1. She can cast divine wave in rapid succession
(this will not kill you but it will knock you back
which can get annoying).
2. She can cast Supernova which will annihilate
any of the characters in her immediate vicinity.
Similar to other bosses in the game she will seem almost easy
until you take enough HP off her, then she will become very cheap
using Supernova and Divine wave almost exclusively.
The characteristic which I think most defines her is that she will
target the character who is doing the most damage to her. She
cannot be taunted. She cannot be lured. You can run up to her and
punch her right in the face but if, for example, Reimi's arrows
are causing more damage than said punch, she will ignore you and
attack Reimi until she is dead or until you cause more damage than
Reimi.
This does not seem like a big issue until she starts casting
Supernova AKA instakill. Then you will be spending a considerable
amount of time and effort just keeping the attacking characters
alive.
The first time I tried her I used 2 melee characters with Reimi as
the ranged character. While this worked OK, the entire party was
wiped out twice by the end of the battle (thank you resurrection
units) and I though I was a goner for sure but then she croaked.
I ended up using 54 of my 60 resurrection items, it was NOT an
easy battle.
For round 2 I used the following strategy:
1.I used Sarah, Bacchus, Reimi, and switched between Edge, Meracle,
and Arumat.
2.I set Sarah to do nothing, Bacchus and Reimi to Fight freestyle
with full force, and Edge, Meracle, and Arumat I controlled
myself.
3.I placed Sarah in one corner, Reimi in another corner and
Bacchus in another corner. The idea is to have them spaced
from each other.
4.The objective is to cause enough damage to her with
Meracle (Drill claw), Edge (Raging strike), or Arumat (Dragon
Roar) to catch her attention. This will allow Bacchus and Reimi
to unleash Their ranged attacks while she follows you around.
5.Run around avoiding her attacks and keeping her away from
everyone else until she decides you are a coward and goes for
one of the ranged attackers, this is when you strike to regain
her attention.
6.Rinse and repeat.
Now this is a modified version of the strategy I used to fight
Gabriel. The best part is that if Bacchus and Reimi get too close
divine wave will just knock you away (hopefully not into a group).
Unfortunately this is not a "use this strategy and she will die
for sure" type strategy. It worked for me, but this will not
guarantee a victory (sorry). I did however fare much better for
round 2, using only 33 of my 60 resurrection items.
If anyone has a good/different strategy and would be willing to contribute
please email me.
After she falls there are couple of things you can accomplish besides
getting her feather.
1.Search level 21 to find Santa (Again). He should be in one of the rooms.
He will be shocked that you have defeated the queen and reward you with
recipe memo #27. He tells you it is top secret and the government does not
want you to know about it. What could it be...the tri-emblem!!! O boy!!
In the words of Welch: "how awesome is that....SO awesome!" (unfortunately
it requires 2 Gabriel feathers AND 2 EQ feathers to make..boourns).
2.Talk to Bargo (the guy that sends you to the wandering dungeon) and he will
say: "It seems you defeated the most supreme being in existence. Nice
work!" (for some reason that made me feel really good...) He will then fork
over Recipe memo #04 (Valkyrie Garb)
And that, friends is the end of Star ocean 4. Boo Ya. Now you can brag to all
your friends or lack thereof, and be the hit of the next cocktail party you
attend. Woo hoo.
FAQ 0018
********
Here is a list of some questions my friends and I came across while playing
Star ocean. Hope it helps.
Q: How do I open sealed Chests?
A: You will need rings which correspond to to the element sealing the chest.
They are found as the storyline progresses in the following order.
Fire - Obtain from Lymles Father -> opens Ice chests and ice walls.
Thunder - Obtain on Cardianon mothership -> opens no chests
Light - Obtain in the Purgatorium -> opens darkness chests and darkness
doors
Wind - Obtain in EN II -> opens Chests entwined in ivy and ivy covered
walls, also destroys boulders.
Darkness - Obtain post game from Darkness dragon (audience chamber)
-> opens light chests and light walls.
Water - Obtain in the Inner sanctum of seven star dungeon -> opens fire
chests
My question is why does the Fire ring not destroy ivy? Why ivy? last I
checked plants burn quite well....
Q: How can I take advantage of the Bonus board?
A: Blue Tiles = 10% Exp boost.
Aquired by killing enemies with critical hits.
Stock up on blue tiles by targeting weaker enemies.
Yellow Tiles = 10 % increase in Fol.
Aquired by killing multiple enemies with a single strike.
Red Tiles = 1% Restore HP/MP
Aquired by killing enemies with skills or spells.
(Can make a difference in a long dungeon)
Green Tiles = +1 party sp
Aquired by being ambushed.
stock up by hanging out by doors or field entrances
to get ambushed by the same enemy over and over.
Good for maxing your skills out early if you choose.
In addition, you gain a 50% bonus to Exp to a
maximum of 200%, for each ambush
You lose your bonus tiles if you recieve a critical hit from an enemy
or die.
Q: How do I select a target in battle?
A: You CAN target (lock-on) to specific enemies by depressing the left
thumbstick. You CAN switch between enemies by running toward them
or when casting symbology. You CANNOT switch from enemy to enemy with
a push of a button.
Q: How do I gain Rank with BEAT?
A: BEAT gains rank by number of battles fought, rather than experience.
Q: I found some Fireflies in a cave, what are they for?
A: The fireflies found in the cave to the purgatorium are for a quest given
to you by a researcher in EN II, who hangs out In the flora and fauna shop.
Q: Can I get back to Cardianon mothership or Earth 1957?
A: Nope. Grab all items from these places before you leave, you may never
return.
Q: How do I create 'X' item in item creation?
A: You cannot make all the items until you get Arumat. Even then you cannot
make all the items until certain requirements are fulfilled such as beating
Gabriel or entering wandering dungeon.
To make all the items pair up the characters for each item creation
parameter. Then substitute in all other characters as the third person
in the item creation slot.
For example: Arumat and Bacchus have the highest engineering skills. Place
them in the first two slots of the item creation screen. Then sub in all
other characters which will allow you to create all the items available
for engineering.
Q: What are the best synthing items for weapons and armour?
A: There are many options when it comes to synthing, and it generally comes
down to a matter of opinion as to what is best. Here are some items that
have really helpful factors:
*Patent Heath seeds --> HP +20 % (Armour)
*Patent Magic seeds --> MP +20 % (Armour)
*Patent Defense seeds --> Defense +20 % (Armour)
*Patent Attack seeds --> Attack +18 % (Weapon)
*Patent Protection seeds --> Guard +25 % (Armour)
*Patent Accuracy seeds --> Hit +25 % (Weapon)
*Patent Intelligence seeds --> INT +18 % (Weapon)
*Curry rice --> Exp +20 % (Weapon)
*Ultimate bomb --> Hp Damage +35% (weapon)
*Mille-Feulle --> Fol +40 % (Weapon)
*Vegetable stir-fry --> MP cost -25 % in battle (Weapon)
*Hyper potion --> ATK/INT/DEF/HIT/GRD +5 % (Weapon or Armour)
*Crystal --> Increases critical hit chance
*Blue talisman --> Nullifies HP damage 25 % of the time (Weapon)
*Any status nullifiers.
*Tri-emblem --> Rush guage charge +3, immunity to paralysis, mp cost -15%
adds 2 hit chances per attack
The best part about the Tri-emblem is the stat increases.
ATK +200 DEF +100 INT +200 HIT +100 GRD +100
After selecting the 4 factors I wanted, I used the Tri-
emblem to fill the max synth limit.
All of these percentages are for weapons and armour but when synthed with
a wrist or neck item the factor will remain the same but the percentages
will be reduced. For example ATK +18 % on a weapon will become ATK +10 %
on a bangle.
The Curry rice can be learned as a cooking skill. The Mille-feulle is
learned from recipi memo No. 8. This recipe is a reward for completeing
the 'Where's the recipe' quest on ENII.
The quest is obtained from the Magical chef in the centropolis mall. To
complete the quest you must pickpocket the young-at-heart researcher at
the centropolis research lab (the same person who gives you the firefly
quest).
Q: Where is the best place to make fol and level up?
A: There are a number of places and enemies which are suitible for levelling
and Fol farming. I personally used the same enemy for both. The Metal
scumbag. The scumbag can be found on the very first level of the seven
star dungeon. They also like to hang out with Hades crabs so I fought
them all too.
Using a set of equipment with exp +20% factors (weapons, armor, and
accesories and optionally the Exp bonus board bonus) you can gain 1
lvl per battle (sometimes 2) all the way to lvl 255. If you are strong
they will probably die before running away but if you are weak, use
scumbag slayers and Bacchus's black hole shpere to keep them from
running away and breaking the bonus board.
Using a set of equipment with fol +20% factors (weapons, armor, and
accesories and the fol bonus board bonus) you can gain millions of
fol per battle. Keep the scumbags from running away and the bonus
board from being destroyed by using black hole sphere.
Q: I keep running low on MP, what can I do?
A: In the beginning of the game using special moves will drain your MP faster
than you can replenish it. Here are a few methods of conserving MP that
I found while playing:
1. Set your characters to 'Gang up on foes without using MP' on the Tactics
setup screen.
2. Synthesize some Mp restoration items to, increase total MP (Magic
bracelet) or to slowly regenerate MP (Regeneration symbol)
3. Frequently use Symbolic weapon. Edge Learns this at level 46.
Q: How do I enter the Colosseum?
A: To enter the Colosseum you must complete the 'Find the receptionist' quest.
You gain this quest after beating the purgatorium from the girl outside
the Colosseum gates. To solve this quest head to the Mobius 1 stop shop
in Astral and go upstairs. Have a Red herb at the ready to solve the quest.
Q: Is there a way to enter the off limits caves in Tatroi?
A: Yes there is. You need to complete the 'Ogre battling' quest from Lias.
He is found outside the Astral knights building in Astral. To finish the
quest you must defeat 30 Ogres (found in Astral desert). After finishing
this quest, talk to him again to receive the 'Rumble in the caves' quest.
You may then gain access to the caves from Astral across the bridge closest
to the Knights building. O yea. and if you want 100 % monster and treasure
chest data you must complete this dungeon.
Q: What do I do about the sickly cacti in the desert?
A: In Tropp you will come across 'the curious youth' near the entrance. He will
give you a bucket which can be used to water the cacti in the desert. You
can fill your bucket at the oasis (there are two) in the desert.
Head outside of Tropp and water the first cactus you come across. It will
then point in the direction of the next cactus to be watered. Follow the
path of the cacti and you will be rewarded with many a stat increase seed.
Q: How do I enter the Seven star Dungeon?
A: You can enter After you beat the main storyline and save the clear data.
Load up the clear data and you will still be in the audience chamber. Head
up the stairs and go into the room (previously empty) to the left. You will
face the Darkness dragon. Defeat him and he will give you the Darkness
ring.
Head to the Colosseum in Tatroi and follow the corridor to the left all the
way to the end. You will find a door blocked with holy light. Destroy the
light to enter a room with a teleporting glyph. This is the entrance to the
Seven star dungeon.
Q: Where do I find the Moonstone?
A: You can find the Moonstone Post game in the Seven star dungeon B2. You can
Also find it as a drop from the Jade golems in the Wandering dungeon or
from a chest in the wandering dungeon. (The chests are all random you will
just have to be lucky)
Q: Hey, my level maxes out at 200, why wont they go any higher?
A: In order to remove the level cap and reach level 255, you must complete
at least 50% of the battle trophies for each charactar.
Q: How do I Duplicate items?
A: There is no trick to duplication items in Star ocean. There is a skill
for Arumat you receive in the Seven star dungeon (Basement 7) called
'Duplication'. This will allow you to duplicate any item (almost) for the
price of Magical clay. This is a tremendously helpful skill, as some of the
more rare items (Moonstone, Philosophers stone) are hard to obtain.
The magical clay needed for duplication depends on the rarity of the item
being duped, for example: Moonstone = 1 magical clay, where as Philosophers
stone = 11 magical clay. The amount also goes up if you are playing on
a harder difficulty.
You can find magical clay at mining points from Roak to Nox obscurus. It
Can also be stolen/dropped from Bone Knights on the first few levels of
the Seven star dungeon. You can greatly increase your chances of stealing
by synthing 'one hit chance per attack' factors into your weapons,
armour and bangles. This factor is gained from the Slayers bangle, or
the Ashlay Bernbeldt monster jewel (Ashlay is found in the Ranked No. 1
in the tatroi collesium. Your chances can be increased further by
using close range attacks (Hitting the attack button right beside the
enemy)
I stole all of my magic clay from the same bone Knight in the seven star
Dungeon, by stealing, running away, then re-entering the battle over and
over.
Q: How do I enter the Wandering Dungeon?
A: You must defeat Gabriel Celeste in the Seven star dungeon. Then head over
to the Old road to the sanctuary in EN II. There, a man named Bargo will
tell you a new dungeon has appeared. He will send you to it if you choose.
Q: Where do I find the Philosophers stone?
A: You can find the Philosophers stone in a chest in the Wandering dungeon.
you may also find it as a drop item from the Damascus Fort enemies in
level 16+ of the wandering dungeon.
Q: Why are there no quests or shop orders in this walkthrough/faq?
A: Quests - My notes are incomplete when it comes to quests. The only ones I
mention in the walkthrough are the ones that pertain to the story or open
a shop or dungeon. I may add quests at a later date.
Shop orders - Why do you need shop order info? just go to the shops and get
what they need. I don't think it requires advice. Now it may save some fol
at stores you frequent often and grant valuable party SP, but personally,
for the most part, I thought it was a waste of time.
