This guide records the "treasure" to be found by means of thorough exploration
of Gran Pulse during the Final Fantasy XIII game. "Treasure" has been used
loosely for a general class of "bonus" Weapons, Accessories and Items that can
be obtained at a no Gil cost basis during game play.

The original material of this presentation was based upon facts gathered and
opinions gained by play of the original U.S. Version of the Final Fantasy XIII
game (Put on sale on March 9, 2010) on the Model CECHE01 PlayStation 3 gaming
console. A 2013 update modified that presentation to reflect design changes
introduced by the developer with additional data collection accomplished using
PlayStation 3 System Software Version 4.25 and the Model CECH-2501A hardware
unit. The guide presents results of game play as experienced by the author.

                              [A]TREASURE SPHERES

There are 105 Treasure Spheres to be found in Gran Pulse. Generally silver in
color (there are some copper-hued ones), they float above the ground in a
bouncy manner and give off a pulsating hum until emptied of their contents.

For player convenience, the total list of treasure spheres has been sorted and
presented by Gran Pulse geographical area. Area names used are the titles
found in the game Overhead Map display. The list thus assumes that the player
will use the Overhead Map to guide travel during game play. To access the
Overhead Map, press [Square] while in the walk about mode.

The listing presents the treasure to be seen in the story line areas first
(the player will have to pass through all of these areas to complete Chapter
11) and that of the optional areas after that. Some treasures seen in the
story line areas will require completion of "optional" activities for access.

Treasure Sphere location descriptions are given using two points of reference.
"Right" or "Left" is with reference to the first entry point into the
designated area and, more generally, relative to the direction the walk about
character is facing. The cardinal directions, north, east, south and west are
with reference to "true" north found by having the walk about character look
directly at Cocoon up in the sky when it can be viewed from the character's
location. Displayed true north is then indicated by the direction that the
character icon points in the overhead map display.

At times, a battle with fiends near the treasure sphere is necessary to
recover the treasure. However, in most cases, it will be possible to acquire
the contents of the treasure sphere without a fiend encounter.

                             [B]CHOCOBO TREASURE

One of the Chapter 11 optional side quests will lead to gaining the capability
to ride Chocobos throughout The Archylte Steppe.

                [B1] Treasure Hunting Technique

A feature of this capability is that the Chocobo ridden will notify the rider
of opportunities to dig for treasure as its mode of transportation is used.
The notification will be given by the appearance of an exclamation point (!)
in a bobbing white balloon over the Chocobo's head.

When the exclamation point appears, a successful search for treasure can be
attempted. To guide the searcher, the bob rate of the white balloon will vary.
As the Chocobo gets closer to the location of the treasure, the bob rate will
increase. As the Chocobo moves farther away from the treasure, the bob rate
decreases.

When the treasure location has been found, an icon will appear indicating that
it is time to dig. The digging location will always be in a brown or grayish
brown area of the terrain. Press [X] to cause to Chocobo to dig in the ground
and retrieve the treasure.

Once a treasure is found, a new search can be initiated immediately. There is
a never-ending stream of treasure to be found. However, after five successful
treasure hunts, the immediate flow of treasure will cease. A [Soft Reset] or
[Reset], an exit and renter of the Archylte Steppe, a [Restart], or travel
among Cie'th Waystones within the Archylte Steppe will stimulate the system to
reload the treasure file so that more successful searches can be accomplished.

                [B2] Treasure from Digging

The treasure to be found is of two types; "One Time" and "Repeatable". The
list shows the set of treasure in each category.

    One Time Repeatable
---------------- ---------------------------------------------------
A Ribbon A Chocobo Plume A Nugget of Cobaltite
A Tetradic Crown A Chocobo Tail Feather A Nugget of Millerite
A Tetradic Tiara A Drop of Dawnlight Dew A Nugget of Rhodochrosite
An Entite Ring A Drop of Dusklight Dew A Pinch of Gold Dust
A Gold Nugget A Plush Chocobo
                           A Moogle Puppet

                [B3] Treasure Sites

The dedicated hunter of Chocobo treasures will, over time, come to realize
that the treasure-producing sites identified by the Chocobo are limited in
number. In fact there currently seems to be only about twenty of them.

Here is the list of potential buried treasure sites. All sites are at
locations within the "greater" Archylte Steppe area. The sites are presented
in the search order of appearance for a counterclockwise movement through the
Archlyte Steppe starting from the Southern Funnelway that searches for
treasure at all possible sites. Using the suggested path, it will take about
twelve minutes to cycle through all of the sites, collect the treasure and
reinitialize the area for the next treasure hunt circuit.

Remember, as you search, key in on the brown or brownish spots near the
indicated locations.

1. Central Expanse - Straight out past the blue Cie'th Stone near Southern
Funnelway entrance/exit to/form Vallis Media. Between the low plateau and the
small mesa to the southwest of the pond.

2. Central Expanse - In the middle of the "Valley of the Flan" found by moving
to the right around the bluff past the Save Station by the Southern Funnelway
entrance/exit to/from Vallis Media.

3. Eastern Tors - In the "Navidon Valley" at its eastern end toward the
platform entrance/exit to/from Aggra's Trough.

4. Aggra's Pasture - In the open area beside the scarp where it splits the
flock of sheep.

5. Haerii Archaeopolis - At the base of the rubble wall near the entrance/exit
to/from the Faultwarrens.

6. Eastern Tors - Near the Cie'th Stone circle on its western approach.

7. Central Expanse - Just to the north of the small part of the split mesa,
itself just north of the pond.

8. Eastern Tors - On the large elevated plateau on the north side of the
terraced mountain.

9. Eastern Tors - In the valley between the Northern Highplain elevated
plateau and the Eastern Tors terraced mountain.

10. Northern Highplain - At the bottom of the northern cliff edge U-shaped
cusp in the far north of the large elevated area.

11. Northern Highplain - In the sloping plain northeast of the pond and south
of the large mountain.

12. Northern Highplain - Across the pathway from the Save Station near the
"point" of cliff edge.

13. Western Benchland - In the flat plain a little to the northwest of the
pond.

14. Western Benchland - Down the sloping way west of the pond just down slope
of the three sheep standing there.

15. Western Benchland - In the sloping area just to the southwest of the pond
and between the pond and the cliff edge.

16. Western Benchland - On the terraced mountain elevated flat area found west
of the mountain's high peak.

17. Western Benchland - On the top, flat shelf part of the terraced mountain
peak located on the peak just to the west of the pinnacle.

18. Central Expanse - In the large expanse of flat plain east of the Western
Benchland terraced mountain and south of the Save Station.

19. The Font of Namva - In a "bare" spot near the bluff just inside the entry
point on the [Save] station side of the area entrance/exit.

20. Central Expanse - In the flat area on the highest part of the "camel back"
mesa located a little to the east of the opening for the Arid Strath pathway.

So, once the sites are known, rather than using the bobbing balloon to locate
treasure, one can merely move from site to site and only dig at each site when
a treasure is indicated to be there.

Not shown in the list are "pocket" areas of exclamation point appearance that
one can encounter during searching. A balloon indicator will "pop up" in each
of these areas and may quickly disappear. There is no treasure at the location
of these "pop ups". However, each does give indication of a treasure in a
"nearby" associated area.

Here are a few of examples of those. There are others. With experience, one
will be able to use a "pop up" as a part of a "signature" that identifies a
specific digging location. When that is possible, rather than choosing to
travel to the digging location, one can look for the appearance or non-
appearance of "signature pop up" to determine where to dig for treasure. Under
this strategy, a site with an absent "pop up" indicator need not be visited.

As one proceeds from south to north from the Central Expanse toward the
Eastern Tor, travel can proceed by entering the "Navidon" valley. As this is
done, a "pop up" may appear. If continued travels up the valley sees the "pop
up" disappear, a treasure will be found near the Cie'th Stone circle farther
along the Eastern Tor. If the "pop up" persists, it will lead the traveler to
the buried treasure site at the eastern end of the Navidon" valley.

The "pop up" on the elevated ledge at the mouth of the entrance between the
Central expanse and Aggra's Pasture announces that treasure can be found in
the location near the Cie'th Stone circle.

If one proceeds from south to north in the Eastern Tors along the "shelf"
between the large rift and the southern side of the tiered mountain, a "pop
up" may appear. This "pop up" indicates that a treasure will be found in the
valley between the tiered mountain and the Northern Highplain plateau and/or
in the elevated large flat area on the other side of the tiered mountain. If
continued travel along the shelf and around the corner of the mountain sees
the "pop up" disappear as the corner into the valley is reached, the treasure
will be found on the backside of the tiered mountain. (To get there move on to
the highest point of the Northern Highplain and "jump the gap" onto the tiered
mountain shelf.) Otherwise, a treasure will be found in the valley just before
reaching the Adamantortoise standing there.

As one moves to the south and then to the east from the Western Benchland
along the southern boundary bluff, one or more "pop ups" may appear. If a "pop
up" appears before the closest approach to the tiered mountain structure, it
is likely that a treasure will be found in the flat area immediately to the
west of the mountain peak. If the "pop up" appears at about the position of
the narrowest gap between the bluff and the tiered mountain structure, there
may be a treasure in the flat area or out in the plain to the south of the
[Save] station there (or both). If the "pop up" appears past the narrow point
toward where the Cie'th Stone appears, the treasure will be on the highest
part of the mountain; just west of its peak.

                 [B4] Treasure Hunting Experience Profile

One thousand (1000) treasure recoveries using the Chocobo treasure finding
process were accomplished. The results were as shown in the "frequency of
occurrence" display shown. Individual entries record the number of treasures
of the available types (one-of-a-kind treasures excluded) that were recovered
from each of the twenty listed potential buried treasure sites. For example,
nine Drops of Dawnlight Dew were recovered from digging site seven during the
1000 trial recovery effort.

One can attempt to gain insight into the Chocobo Treasure Hunting process by
examination of the results shown in the table. The "small" size (statistically
speaking) of the sample taken labels the inferences made here only tentative
conclusions. A much larger sample plus statistical analysis would be required
to be able to make definitive statements.

Example observations include:

1. The Treasure Hunt process does not visit all digging sites equally.

2. The Treasure Hunt process does not award all prizes in equal amounts.

3. Prizes of a given type may or may not be uniformly distributed across all
candidate digging sites.

4. Table frequency of occurrence entries may be used to estimate event
probabilities by dividing by 1000. For, example, the estimated probability of
recovering a Gold Nugget on any given dig attempt is 66/1000 = 0.066 0r 6.6%.

Another use for the information in the table is to estimate accomplishment
requirements for possible actions of interest.

For example, a natural question is, "How much Chocobo Treasure Hunting will I
have to do to be able to buy a Trapezohedron?"

An answer can be found by (1) assuming all recovered treasure to be sold and
using the result to determine the average amount of Gil received per dig, and
(2) using the estimated 12 minute digging circuit travel time to estimate the
amount of time that will be needed to collect the required 2,000,000 Gil.

                        Gil Available from Treasure Hunting

Chocobo Plume 88 at 20 Gil each 1,760
Chocobo Tail Feather 103 at 50 Gil each 5,150
Dawnlight Dew 94 at 500 Gil each 47,000
Dusklight Dew 77 at 850 Gil each 65,450
Gold Nugget 66 at 60,000 Gil each 3,960,000
Moogle Puppet 42 at 18,000 Gil each 756,000
     Cobaltite 135 at 3,000 Gil each 405,000
     Millerite 143 at 1,000 Gil each 143,000
Gold Dust 96 at 15,000 Gil each 1,440,000
Plush Chocobo 37 at 35,000 Gil each 1,295,000
     Rhodochrosite 119 at 2,000 Gil each 238,000

TOTAL Gil for 1000 digs 8,356,360

So the average is about 8,356 Gil per dig or 41,782 Gil per digging circuit.

To buy a 2,000,000 Gil Trapezohedron will require about 48 digging cycles (at
five digs per cycle). At twelve minutes per cycle, this will take an estimated
576 minutes (nine hours and thirty-six minutes) of playing time.

                               [C]MISSION TREASURE

Perhaps the most interesting and most challenging of the "optional" activities
of Chapter 11 is the pursuit of the completion of sixty-four Missions.

Only six of the sixty-four Missions (numbers 21-26) are required to be
completed as the story line proceeds through Gran Pulse. The other fifty-eight
are optional activities. The locations of the six required Missions have been
highlighted in the Mission Marker Location List presentation that follows.

All but two of the Missions (numbers 55 and 64) can be attempted prior to
defeating the Chapter 11 "Boss". All can be attempted before leaving Gran
Pulse to continue with the rest of the game.

The content of this section is intended to support players wishing to complete
some or all of the "optional" Missions of the sixty-four Gran Pulse Missions.
In overview, the presentation that follows addresses the following thought
progression leading to Mission completion.

1. Identify a Mission of interest by number. Choosing a Mission to recover a
particular reward as indicated in the Treasure Index would by one way to make
a choice.

2. Find the location of the Mission Marker by consulting the Mission Marker
Location List.

3. Move to the area containing the Mission Marker and scan the area using the
"in game" Overhead Map feature. (Press [Square] to bring up the Overhead Map.)

4. If the Overhead Map shows a "dark" Mission Marker, consult the Mission
Marker Activation Requirements tabulation to determine what must be done to
activate the Mission Marker.

5. When an "active" Mission Marker has been made available, move to the
Mission Marker and press [X] to bring up the Mission description.

6. Use the "in game" Overhead Map to move to the Designated Action Site Area
and to locate and move to the action spot within the Designated Action Site
Area for Mission Execution. (It's a "follow the pink dots" activity.)

7. Execute the Mission to collect "first time" or "repeat" rewards as shown in
the Mission Completion Rewards table.

Details on this are provided by the text paragraphs and tables that follow.

                [C1] The Mission Execution Process

The real "trick" to doing all of the Missions may be finding each of the
Mission Markers in an active state so that the Missions can be undertaken. A
Mission Marker in the "active" state will appear "illuminated" on the overhead
map and, in place, will show some color and be upright, off the "ground". An
"inactive" marker will appear "dark" on the overhead map and, in place, will
be less colorful and will be lying flat on the "ground".

Completing a Mission is a three-step process. First, one must first find the
Mission Marker of interest. Second, if it is not in its "active" state, one
must undertake additional activities such that the activation requirements are
satisfied. Only then may the third step be initiated and the Mission performed
so that its "rewards" can be collected.

To support accomplishment of the first step in this process, a listing of
Mission Marker Locations sorted by Mission number is provided below as a guide
to the locations of the sixty-four Mission Markers. It should provide a
"spoiler-free" starting point for those desiring assistance in that regard.

Completion of the second step of the process can make use of the first of the
two tabular summaries describing Mission Marker details that follow the
location listing. That is, by use of the Mission Marker Activation
Requirements Table. Each entry of the table gives a brief description of the
Mission Marker appearance and presents the requirements that must be met to
"activate" the Mission Marker so that the Mission may be undertaken.

Mission execution begins by inquiry at an active "Mission Marker" that
responds by providing background and direction to allow the Mission to be
completed. The tabulation includes reference information of this sort as well.

Once an active Mission Marker is "in place", as suggested by the Mission
Marker Requirements Table, the geographical area where the Mission is to be
undertaken will be revealed. Travel to the designated area, move about in its
boundaries and use the Overhead Map to locate a "pink dot" that indicates the
action site.

Alternatively, one can proceed by starting from the Mission Marker location
provided in the Mission Marker Location List. Using the Overhead Map and
follow the trail indicated by the series of "pinkish dots" to the geographical
area where the Mission is to be performed. The last "pink dot" in the trail
will locate the area of Mission execution action.

The final part of the third step of Mission Completion is the collection of
Crystogen Point and Completion Bonus rewards. The second, Mission Completion
Rewards, tabular summary at the end of this section presents the rewards that
may be expected as each of the 64 Missions is completed.

Mission 42. Faultwarrens - Via Lunae, Via Stellarum. There are two
appearances of this Mission Marker; once in the Via Lunae area and once in
the Via Stellarum area. In Via Lunae, the "main" path is U-shaped with two
short path "stubs" branching off of it. The Mission Marker is at the
opposite end of the U from the entrance. Keep to the right at two forks to
reach the Mission Marker. The Via Stellarum path is laid out in the shape of
a "T". Take the left-hand-side branch of the path at the T-intersection to

Mission 46. Faultwarrens - Salamandrine Path. The Mission Marker will be
found at the end of a branch in the path by taking the right branch at the
first fork in the path and then the left branch at the next fork in the path

Mission 47. Faultwarrens - Salamandrine Path. The Mission Marker will be
found by keeping to the right as three forks in the path are encountered.

Mission 48. Faultwarrens - Sylphid Path. Move left and onto the oval portion
of the main path as you leave the entrance point. Take the left-hand-side
stub path of the main path oval to its end to find the Mission Marker.

Mission 49. Faultwarrens - Sylphid Path. Move right and onto the oval
portion of the main path as you leave the entrance point. At the next
intersection, turn right into a stub path that shows the Mission Marker at
its end point.

Mission 50. Faultwarrens - Nereid Path. The Mission Marker is at the end of
the path to the left-hand-side at the T-intersection of the entrance path.

Mission 51. Faultwarrens - Gaian, Salamandrine, Sylphid and Nereid Paths.
There are four appearances for this Mission Marker; once each in the Gaian
Path area, the Salamandrine Path area, the Sylphid Path area and the Nereid
Path area. In the Gaian Path area, the Mission Marker can be found by
turning right at the T-intersection and moving to the end of that path
segment. In the Salamandrine Path area, take the left branch at the first
fork in the path and the right branch at the next fork (in the branch) path
to reach the Mission Marker. The Sylphid Path appears in the rough form of
an oval; with stub paths leaving it to the left and to the right. Move past
the left-hand-side stub path along the oval to find the Mission Marker on
the side of the main path. In the Nereid Path area, move straight ahead to
the "open space" where the T intersection is formed. The Mission Marker is
directly ahead at the rear of the "open space".

Mission 52. Archylte Steppe - Western Benchland. From the pond, move west down
the sloping path and a little south into a slightly elevated open area. Find
the Marker at the western, cliff, edge of the slightly elevated area.

Mission 53. Mah'habara - An Asylum from Light. Ride Atmos from the Sulyya
Springs area if you have not already done so to get to the An Asylum from
Light area. From the entrance, move down the path and take the left-hand-side
path at the fork. Keep left at the second fork. The Marker is in the back of
the chamber at the end of the path.

Mission 54. Archylte Steppe - Northern Highplain. Look west of the Save
Station along the cliff edge. The Marker is located in the nearby depressed
area at the edge of the cliff.

Mission 55. Oerba - Deserted Schoolhouse. The Marker is in the rooftop garden
of the waterfront schoolhouse.

Mission 56. Archylte Steppe - Eastern Tors. One of seven Markers arranged in a
circular pattern and located in a level area near the bluffs.

Mission 63. Sulyya Springs - Subterranean Lake. The Marker is located on one
of the large rock platforms that define the main pathway through the area.

Mission 64. Oerba - Rust-eaten Bridge. The Marker is located a little closer
to the end of the bridge than the Save Station.

                [C3] Mission Marker Activation Requirements

There are prerequisite actions that must be taken before each Mission can be
undertaken. At times it may be difficult to figure out just what those might
be. The tabulation has been constructed to expose the actions required to
activate every one of the sixty-four Mission Markers in Gran Pulse.

As an example use of the table, suppose one travels to Mission Marker 16 and
finds that it is not active. The tabulation entry for Mission Marker 16
indicates the requirement for it to be active as "Complete Mission 12".

But, wait, that is only a start to finding out what actions are necessary to
activate Mission Marker 16. What about Mission 12? Checking the entry for
Mission 12 shows that to complete that Mission one would have to complete
Missions 5&7 first. Uh oh, what about Missions 5 & 7?

A complete trace through the table reveals that, to be able to initiate action
on Mission 16, one must have Completed Missions 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and 12.

So, to use the table, one will need to keep track of prior Mission-related
actions completed.

One simple way of doing that is to always complete the Missions in numeric
order. If that had been done in the example case, no trace back using the
table would be required as Missions 1-15 would have been completed by the time
the Mission Marker for Mission 16 was investigated. It would have been active
when it was reached and its Mission available for immediate pursuit.

However, it is not always possible or convenient to always do the Missions in
exact numeric order. One really needs a "better" way of keeping track of
mission accomplishments. Fortunately the game provides the needed means to do
so.

The game keeps a Mission Marker list showing status of Mission operations
including Mission Markers interrogated, Missions Attempted, Missions
Accomplished and any Mission currently in progress.

To see the list, press [Square] while your party is in the walkabout mode to
bring up the overhead map. When the overhead map appears, press [Square]
again to bring up the Mission status display. If you wish additional
information on an individual displayed entry, move the cursor to the entry and
press [X] to bring up the Mission Summary.

Use of the game's Mission operations status display will make for the most
effective use of the activation requirements information provided by the
tabulation.

Three "types" of Cie'th Markers are displayed by the tabulation. A "Cie'th
Stone" functions solely as a Mission initiation mechanism. A "Cie'th Waystone"
provides for a teleport capability among the sites of the completed Waystone
Missions in addition to serving as a Mission initiation mechanism. A "Cie'th
Paling" removes a barrier barring entry into an area once its Mission has been
completed.

The travel requirement to accomplish each Mission is suggested by the final
column of the tabulation which names the area where each mission action must
take place.

                [C4] Mission Completion Rewards

Each Mission yields a "special" Completion Bonus the first time it is
finished. A Mission can be completed as many times as is desired with a
"repeat" Completion Bonus received after each successful completion subsequent
to the first.

The tabulation displays all of the bonuses that can be received. A bonus may
be an accessory, a key item or a component item. In the table, component
items have been signified by placing a quantity received indication in front
of the Completion Bonus descriptor. Non-component Completion Bonus items do
not have a quantity indicator in front of the item descriptor.

                             [D]MINI QUEST TREASURE

There are a few "optional" activities that can be undertaken to gather
interesting and/or useful items to add to the component inventory. The content
of the section addresses the "rewards" available from the pursuit of some of
those.

                [D1] Bhakti

Bhakti the toy robot will be found in the upstairs living quarters of the
Dilapidated Dwelling in the Village of Oerba.

Upon inquiry of Bhakti, it becomes apparent that the robot is in need of
repair. A mini game follows in which the Village of Oerba is searched to find
five required parts that can be used to fix Bhakti.

The parts are collected as follows:

1. Exit the Dilapidated Dwelling and take on the six fiends occupying the
front courtyard. Defeat two Chonchon and four Seekers to be able to get a
POWER CABLE from the cart near the base of the tower in the courtyard.

2. Exit the Dilapidated Dwelling and move along the left-hand side of the
front courtyard to enter the upstairs room of the Desolate Mill. Defeat the
Vetala fiend guarding the room to obtain a BATTERY PACK for Bhakti.

3. Exit the Dilapidated Dwelling and move to the right and down the ramp
outlet from the side courtyard. Battle the Vampire lurking amongst the tree
roots on the waterfront to receive a TROCHOID GEAR for Bhakti.

4. Continue along the water front to enter the Deserted Schoolhouse. Upon
entry, battle two Chonchon and a Vetala, to be able to collect the ASPHERIC
LENS in the classroom.

5. Continue farther along the waterfront and go up some stairs and around a
corner to enter the Derelict Depot. Move through the Derelict Depot and out
onto the railroad track way. Find a METAL PLATE just outside the exit and a
little to the right from the Derelict Depot.

When these parts are taken back to the Dilapidated Dwelling and repairs are
made to Bhakti, the robot chooses to express its appreciation by giving out
rewards. The number and types of items given vary with the "Gran Pulse
Explorer Rank" achieved by the party at the time the repairs are made. The
list of potential rewards is as shown.

                       Gran Pulse Awarded Item
                     Explorer Rank Increment

                        Pilgrim 10 Vials of DECEPTISOL

                       Sojourner + 2 ULTRACOMPACT REACTORS

                      Trailblazer + 1 GOLD NUGGET

Cartographer + 5 VIALS OF PERFUME

Pulsian Pioneer + 3 PLATINUM INGOTS

If repairs are made after a Gran Pulse Explorer Rank of "Pulsian Pioneer" has
been achieved, all Items can be received after the repair has been completed.
Additional rewards are collectable "incrementally" if the Pulsian Pioneer Rank
has not been attained at the time repairs are made. For example, if a
Trailblazer Rank party repairs Bhakti, they can receive 10 Vials of
Deceptisol, 2 Ultracompact Reactors and a Gold Nugget. If the party returns to
visit Bhakti at a later time after collecting the available rewards from the
repair visit and with a Rank of Pulsian Pioneer, 5 Vials of Perfume and 3
Platinum Ingots can be collected during the later visit.

Bhakti also offers a series of hints indicative of interesting features of the
Gran Pulse game environment. Its eleven bonus byte "clues" are as listed.

                               Bhakti Bonus Bytes

1. The Faultwarrens are home to some of Gran Pulse's most dangerous denizens.
If you plan to challenge them, you had better go prepared.

2. Accepting a mission from a Cie'th Stone might remove a barrier impeding
your progress.

3. When riding Chocobos, jumping at yellow map indicators will allow you to
reach otherwise in accessible areas.

4. Have you triumphed over all of the challenges the Faultwarrens have to
offer? Reattempting the trial after doing so might draw the attention of a
certain Cie'th.

5. Rumor has it that hitching a ride from Sulyya Springs on the fal'Cie Atmos
will allow you to reach a secret stretch of Mah'habara.

6. Weather changes on the Archylte Steppe affect the wool of resident sheep.

7. Some Cie'th Stones on the Archylte Steppe take time to activate.

8. Complete a top-secret mission on the Archylte Steppe and new varieties of
Oretoises may emerge.

9. Sulyya Springs is home to a whopper of a fal'Cie. Be careful when walking
near the water's edge.

10. If you climb to the seventh tier of Taejin's Tower, you will be able to
rejoin all of the elevator's rail sections.

11. The towering Adamantoise is the undisputed king of the steppe. Get too
close and even a Chocobo will turn tail feather and run.

                [D2] Chocobo Chick

A thorough exploration of Gran Pulse will lead to entry into a number of
optional areas. One of those is The Font of Namva - the lair of the Chocobos.

Use of the overhead map while in The Font of Namva will reveal an "object of
interest" located out in the watery portion of the area. Careful inspection of
the "object" shows it to be moving. In fact it moves continuously completing a
circuit which, at times brings it close to the shoreline.

If one moves to a point at the edge of the shoreline near the point of closest
approach of the object, one will be able to discern that the moving "object of
interest" is a Chocobo Chick. Even better, one will be able to query the
Chocobo Chick as it flies by to receive a component from it when it is within
"reach".

Only one component can be received any particular time The Font of Namva area
is entered. The possible "free" components to be received are Chocobo Plume or
Chocobo Tail Feather. There is a constant supply of these, but, not on a
continuous basis.

Once an item has been received, one must take action to "reload" the Chocobo
Chick to be able to get an additional item. Reload will occur if one leaves
the Archylte Steppe and returns, if [Quit] followed by [Reload] is executed or
if one Teleports among Cie'th Waystones with a return to the Archylte Steppe.

A player can, at least to a limited extent, choose which of the two available
items will be received from the Chocobo Chick. If one moves to the shoreline
astride a Chocobo and queries the Chocobo Chick, most frequently a Chocobo
Plume will be received; occasionally a Chocobo feather will be received. If
one wants to receive the same item just received at the next inquiry
opportunity, a dismount from the Chocobo before approaching the shoreline on
the next visit before making the inquiry will maximize the likelihood that
that will be the case. If change is desired, subsequent inquiries must be made
from a mounted Chocobo for the best chance that change will occur.

                [D3] Wooly Sheep

One of the most noticeable features of the Archylte Steppe area of Gran Pulse
is the appearance of five groups of little white fuzzy animals. Careful
inspection shows them to be harmless sheep with a principal function of going
"baa".

Of the five groups of sheep found, one flock will initially appear with a
larger "adult" member having curled horns. At the first encounter, a scene
will occur in which it is shown that wool may be gathered from that sheep.

If the flock is left and a return visit paid later, the "adult" sheep may have
disappeared. As it happens, the "adult" is not gone for good, it has only
moved to another location. If its new location can be found, more wool can be
acquired from it.

Looking for the "lost" sheep and collecting its four types of wool (Scraggly,
Rough, Thick or Fluffy) is an amusing mini game that seems to have no
especially significant impact whatsoever to any other aspect of the game.

The wool-bearing sheep usually can be found in one of five Archylte Steppe
locations:

1. In Aggra's pasture at the original site of appearance.

2. On a small island in the Central Expanse pond.

3. In the middle of the Central Expanse camel back mesa just outside the mouth
of the Arid Strath Pathway.

4. On a ledge beside the cliff opening leading into Aggra's Trough.

5. On a ledge in an under-ruin "room" in the Haerii Archaeopolis.

Each location must be "closely" approached before the sought for sheep, if
there, will appear. A view from a distance is not definitive with respect to
the presence or absence of the sheep at any particular location.

A sixth, off the map, location exists for, occasionally, the wool bearing
sheep will not be found at any of the five listed locations.

Once the sheep has given up its wool, a period of time must elapse before more
wool becomes available. One can wait and hope that the sheep will "re
initialize" itself into a wool-bearing condition or take control of the "re
initialization" process. Use [Reset], [Soft Reset], exit and re entry of the
Archylte Steppe area or movement within the Archylte Steppe area by use of
Teleport Cie'th Stones to "re initialize" the wool-bearing sheep in terms of
its capability to give up more wool and its occupied location.

To preserve the type of wool received on a prior wool gathering attempt, a
reset type action must be used. "Re initialization" by means other than reset
may change the type of wool that will be received from the sheep. Among other
things that means that exit and re entry of the Archylte Steppe or using the
Archylte Steppe Teleport Cie'th Stones for movement within the area can be
used to change and/or select the type of wool to be obtained from the wool-
bearing sheep. Multiple "re initialization" attempts using one or more
different destinations may be required to set the sheep to provide any
particular type of wool desired.

Once the type of wool has been set, it will remain unchanged as long as travel
outside the Archylte Steppe is not undertaken and the Archylte Steppe Teleport
Cie'th Stones are not used.

As "organic" material, collected wool can be used in the Final Fantasy XIII
weapon and accessory upgrade process. Up to a 200% "experience point" bonus
can be activated by applying pieces of gathered wool during an upgrade
activity as indicated by the required quantities of the table.

Organic First 100% Bonus Second 100% Bonus Total Components
Component Four 25% Steps A Single 100% Step for 3X Value

    Scraggly Wool 8 7 14 7 36 72
    Rough Wool 4 4 8 4 19 39
    Thick Wool 3 3 6 2 14 28
    Fluffy Wool 2 2 4 2 9 19

The tabulated entries are accurate for use when a single wool type is applied.
Required quantities may vary slightly if more than one wool type is used.

                          [E]BATTLE SPOILS TREASURE

Typically, when a fiend or a group of fiends are battled and defeated, there
may be "bonus" Battle Spoils items received at the conclusion of the battle.
Certain battles can produce particularly useful Battle Spoils such as Weapons,
Accessories or Components that can be sold for a "considerable" amount of Gil.
Those "rewards" found in Chapter 11 thought to be of interest to the average
player are presented by the annotated listing of fiends that follows.

                [E1] Adamanchelid

The Adamanchelid is the smallest and the weakest of the several fiends found
in Gran Pulse that are members of the Oretoise group. It is easy to locate
because of it large size and the fact that, of the family members, it is the
only one that has no tusks.

The "treasure" to be obtained from this beast is GOLD DUST which can be sold
at any one of the available shops for 15,000 Gil and SCARLETITE which is one
of the key transformational components used in the game by the upgrade
process. SCARLETITE can also be sold for 7,000 Gil.

Both GOLD DUST and SCARLETITE are possible "spoils" received after a
successful battle with the Adamanchelid. GOLD DUST is the "common drop" and
SCARLETITE the "rare drop" from such battles.

Game play experience shows that this fiend can be overcome at fairly low
levels of party character experience by equipping physical and magical
defensive accessories and being moderately adept at switching among paradigms
during battle.

The battle activity sequence for the Adamanchelid is six foot stomps followed
by one of a "Quake" attack or a "Bay" attack. The foot stomps are
systematically presented in a pre-defined time interval sequence. "Quake" or
"Bay" attacks are randomly "inserted" into the foot stomp sequence when their
presentation time arrives.

During the foot stomp action of this beast, the successful low level battle
strategy will involve: using Synergist and Saboteur skills to buff and debuff
the characters and the Adamanchelid, respectively; using attack skills to
advance the Adamanchelid stagger gauge and reduce its hit points during the
stagger interval; and using medical skills to heal when necessary.

In anticipation of the "Quake" and/or "Bay" attack, switch all characters into
a Sentinel role to assure survival. After the attack, heal and return to the
foot stomp interval strategy used before.

Data taken collected 200 Adamanchelid battles early in the game before all
characters were fully developed suggests that the "drop rate" for GOLD DUST is
about 20% - 25%. That is, GOLD DUST will be received, on the average, about
one battle in every four or five.

The same data show the "drop rate" for SCARLETITE is, at best, about 1% if no
special "rare drop rate increaser" accessory is equipped by a character
participating in the battle. If the special "rare drop rate increaser"
accessory is used, the SCARLETITE "drop rate" is estimated to be around 3%.
That is, in the best case, one can expect to receive about 3 SCARLETITE every
100 battles.

Once characters have had their capabilities developed to the extent that five-
star victories with the "rare drop rate increaser" accessory equipped over the
Adamanchelid are routinely possible, more favorable drop rates may be
experienced. As suggested by the experience table, the drop rate for GOLD DUST
is about 30% and for SCARLETITE about 6% under those conditions. Again, from
the table, more favorable drop rates may be available by targeting specific
Adamanchelid individuals to match the component acquisition goals of interest.

                [E2] Adamantortoise and Adamantoise

Perhaps the most sought after treasures on Gran Pulse are the PLATINUM INGOT
and the TRAPEZOHEDRON. Platinum Ingot can be sold at any of the Final Fantasy
XIII stores for 150,000 Gil. TRAPEZOHEDRON is the key catalyst agent required
by the upgrade process for development of any of the "ultimate" weapons for
all characters.

Both treasures have their primary source as "spoils" of battles with either
the Adamantortoise of the Adamantoise. PLATINUM INGOT is the "common" drop for
both fiend types and TRAPEZOHEDRON the "rare" drop for the two fiend types.
They are not easily obtained however.

In battle, the attack pattern for either of the two fiend types is: six (earth
shaking) foot stomps followed by either a "Quake" attack or a "Roar" attack.
The foot stomps are powerful, the Quake attack severe and the Roar attack can
be of overwhelming ferocity.

In the "early" game in Gran Pulse, winning a battle against either one of
these fiends is "barely" (if at all) possible. Survival is difficult and
dealing significant damage can be accomplished only by accumulation of small
amounts of damage over an extended time period.

For a successful early game battle, characters, weapons and accessories must
first be developed to their "full" capabilities. Battle strategy has to be
carefully worked out and total facility with options used to accomplish
efficient paradigm switching developed. Even then, a successful battle will
necessarily be a lengthy one with the outcome likely being significantly less
than a five-star quality level experience.

Based upon a projection of poor battle performance, the recorded Adamanchelid
experience suggests that the likely drop rate for PLATINUM INGOT and
TRAPEZOHEDRON will probably be significantly less than 25% and 1%
respectively. The tedium involved in winning multiple battles of this type
probably rules out such battles as a realistic approach for collecting either
PLATINUM INGOT or TRAPEZOHEDRON.

The "mid" game in Gran Pulse occurs after the "final boss" on Gran Pulse has
been defeated. One outcome of that battle is that a Death spell becomes
available. Another result is that Crystarium levels and capabilities are
expanded.

Now with full development of character capabilities, promising options for
defeating the Adamantortoise and Adamantoise fiends exist. With luck, the
death spell can be used to quickly defeat either for a five-star result. Also,
with practice, a battle strategy that does not require use of the Death spell
to defeat the two fiends can also be worked out. Under this scenario there is
a better chance of collecting a few PLATINUM INGOTs and maybe even a
TRAPEZOHEDRON or two but, once again, it is a tedious process to do so.

To gain an idea of the effort involved for acquisition of PLATINUM INGOT and
TRAPEZOHEDRON during "mid" game action, the Death spell was used to accomplish
100 five-star victory quality battles against the Adamantoise that roams
between the Archylte Steppe Central Expanse and the Archylte Steppe Eastern
Tors. The result was 22 PLATINUM INGOT and 3 TRAPEZOHEDRON.

The TRAPEZOHEDRON were acquired on the 65th, 73rd and 74th trials. By breaking
the string of battles into manageable segments using Chocobo treasure hunting
and selling that treasure plus the accumulated PLATINUM INGOTs, approximately
7 million Gil were accumulated while the 100 battles were being completed.

The "end" game in Gran Pulse can be said to occur after the character
Crystarium Stage 10 condition has been achieved. Now fully developed
characters, weapons and accessories allow development of battle strategies
that will produce five-star victories over both fiend types "routinely" in
"reasonable" amounts of time. There is still tedium in collection of the
desired PLATINUM INGOT and TRAPEZOHEDRON components, but in a significantly
less amount than before.

In the end game (based upon the experience summary tabulations that follow) it
may not be unreasonable to expect a PLATINUM INGOT drop rate of about 25% on
the average for Adamantortoise while the TRAPEZOHEDRON drop rate may be as low
as 3%. A PLATINUM INGOT drop rate expectation of about 25% for Adamantoise is
also reasonable. Also, it would seem that a TRAPEZOHEDRON drop rate of around
12% for Adamantoise is possible.

It may be possible to improve on the average drop figures during an
acquisition process by targeting particular fiends that drop objects of
interest more frequently than the other fiends in a particular class.

                [E3] Attacus

This Undying Cie'th fiend appears in the Titan's Throne area of the
Faultwarrens when the completion of Cie'th Stone Mission 51 is attempted.

Spoils of battle produced by this fiend include ZEALOT'S AMULET and BATTLE
TALISMAN. According to the Datalog entry, ZEALOT'S AMULET is the Common drop
and BATTLE TALISMAN is the Rare drop.

                [E4] Barthandelus

This fal'Cie fiend appears at the story line exit point of Chapter 11. A
battle must be fought and won in order that the story line can continue to
include later events.

The GODDESS'S FAVOR accessory is a guaranteed drop from Barthandelus at the
conclusion of this forced, one-time-only battle.

                [E5] Bituitus

This winged Undying Cie'th fiend appears in the Paddraean Archaeopolis of the
Yaschas Massif when the execution of Mission 7 is attempted.

Spoils of battle produced by this fiend include TETRADIC CROWN and TETRADIC
TIARA. According to the Datalog entry, TETRADIC CROWN is the Common drop and
TETRADIC TIARA is the Rare drop.

Collected data suggest that a player can expect to receive about 10 accessory
products per 100 battles completed at five-star quality against this fiend.
The number of each type is unpredictable with the data showing a drop
variation of from 2 to 8 for each accessory type in the data sets recorded.

TETRADIC CROWN can be sold for 15,000 Gil and TETRADIC TIARA for 40,000 Gil.

                [E6] Cactuar

This speedy bright green fiend appears alone at multiple locations throughout
the Archylte Steppe when the Mission 54 Cie'th Stone is activated.

Spoils of battle produced by this fiend include CHOCOBO PLUME and CACTUAR
DOLL. According to the Datalog entry, CHOCOBO PLUME is the Common drop and
CACTUAR DOLL is the Rare drop.

Collected data suggest that about the best that can be expected from five-star
victory quality battles is ten items received for every 100 attempts. The
number of items of each type apparently will vary in the range from 0 to 10.
The "long-term" average recorded was five items of each type.

CACTUAR DOLL, a novelty item, can be sold for 12,000 Gil.

                [E7] Dahaka

This fal'Cie fiend appears at the apex of the Taejin Tower part way through
the story of Chapter 11. The fiend must be fought and defeated if play is to
continue to include later story line events.

A TETRADIC TIARA accessory is a guaranteed drop from Dahaka at the conclusion
of this forced, one-time-only battle.

                [E8] Edimmu

This winged Cie'th appears in the Tsumitran Basin of the Yaschas Massif when
Cie'th Stone Mission 5 is attempted.

Spoils of battle produced by this fiend include WHISTLEWIND SCARF and

The Flowering Cactuar will only be found in the Salamandrine Path area of the
Faultwarrens. It appears in two places; once as a group of three individuals
and once as a group of five individuals.

Spoils of battle produced by this fiend include CHOCOBO TAIL FEATHER and
RIBBON. According to the Datalog entry, CHOCOBO TAIL FEATHER is the Common
drop and RIBBON is the Rare drop for each Flowering Cactuar.

                [E10] Geiseric

This giant Undying Cie'th fiend appears in the Western Benchland part of the
Archylte Steppe when the execution of Mission 12 is attempted.

Spoils of battle produced by this fiend include BRAWLER'S WRISTBAND and BLACK
BELT. According to the Datalog entry, BRAWLER'S WRISTBAND is the Common drop
and BLACK BELT is the Rare drop.

                [E11] Mithridates

This winged Undying Cie'th fiend appears on the Ground Tier of the Taejin
Tower when the execution of Mission 27 is attempted.

Spoils of battle produced by this fiend include TETRADIC CROWN and TETRADIC
TIARA. According to the Datalog entry, TETRADIC CROWN is the Common drop and
TETRADIC TIARA is the Rare drop.

TETRADIC CROWN can be sold for 15,000 Gil and TETRADIC TIARA for 40,000 Gil.

                [E12] Penanggalan

is the Rare drop.

                [E15] Zero-Star Victories

There are six battles in Gran Pulse that can yield a weapon as part of the
battle spoils received that is not attributable to any of the fiends battled.
That is, an XYZ weapon can be received yet none of the Datalog entries for any
of the opponents in the battle show XYZ weapon as either a Common or Rare drop
possibility. This is because the game designers have chosen to use the battle
management system mechanism that "normally" causes an Aegisol, Deceptisol or
Fortisol drop to occur to cause a weapon drop to occur instead.

All six battles arise from encounters in the Titan's Throne area of the
Faultwarrens that occur when certain Cie'th Stone Missions are selected for
completion. The six Missions and the weapon drops to be seen are as follows.

                          Mission 45 - TIGERCLAW
                          Mission 46 - DRAGOON LANCE
                          Mission 47 - MALPHAS
                          Mission 48 - ALDEBARANS
                          Mission 49 - ORGANYX
                          Mission 50 - SACRIFICIAL CIRCLE

The implemented structure means that if these weapons are being sought from
these particular battles, the battle objective should be a lower rather than a
higher battle victory quality outcome. Zero-star battle victory quality
finishes will likely produce a weapon drop much more quickly than five-star
battle victory quality outcomes. This because, as a general rule, shrouds tend
to drop more frequently the lower the battle victory quality outcome achieved.

Also, it will be to the player's advantage to equip the "shroud drop rate
enhancement" accessory when attempting weapon collection. That accessory is
known to significantly increase the likelihood of seeing a shroud as a part of
the battle spoils received.

A test case examination of these battles was made to investigate the weapon
drop appearances. The "shroud drop rate enhancement" accessory was equipped
during the examination.

Missions 48 and 46 were used to verify that a shroud-drop-like appearance
mechanism was indeed the case. For Mission 48, 100 five-star battle victory
quality events produced a single weapon drop and that on trial 43. When zero-
star battle victory quality events were executed, a weapon drop was obtained
on the fifth attempt. For Mission 46, three-star battle victory quality events
were executed. In this case, the weapon drop first occurred on trial 26.

Next zero-star battle quality victories were sought for Mission 45, Mission
47, Mission 49 and Mission 50. Weapon drops were received on the first
attempt, the first attempt, the sixth attempt and the fourth attempt,
respectively.

                                   [F]SHROUDS

                [F1] Introduction

The three shrouds, Deceptisol, Aegisol and Fortisol can be very useful in
turning an extremely difficult battle situation into a more favorable one.
Each one of these items is a treasure in its own right when properly used
before the start of a battle.

Aegisol assures the character Battle Team starts the battle with a strong
defense against physical, magical and status attacks by casting Protect,
Shell, Veil and Vigilance as hostilities begin.

Deceptisol will render the character Battle Team temporarily "invisible" to
the opposition enabling a pre emptive attack to start the battle.

Fortisol strengthens the character Battle Team physical and magic attacks and
adds the offensive advantage of increased speed of action at the opening of
the battle by casting Bravery, Faith and Haste.

In Gran Pulse, these three shrouds may be obtained as after battle spoils and
(with a single exception) by no other means.

Knowing that the shrouds are available is one thing. Obtaining shrouds based
upon that knowledge is quite another. The rest of the text of this discussion
subdivision is devoted to an attempt to assist the reader to be successful in
an effort to acquire desired shrouds.

The material to be presented has been derived from the results of a survey of
the shroud drops that the author has encountered and/or created in Gran Pulse.
The survey began by observing shroud drops as they occurred during routine
game play. The initial observations led to conclusions that enabled a focused
second-stage investigative effort to refine the conclusions made based upon
initial observations and to pin point useful sources for the three types of
shrouds.

The next, "Background" section presents a summary of the conclusions reached
as a result of the survey. The following, "Identified Sources" sections
present tabulations of a selection of the totality of shroud sources
identified.

                [F2] Background

The second-stage survey approach was to fight a "large" number of battles with
various groups of fiends encountered in Gran Pulse. For each battle a standard
Battle Team was used to produce a five-star victory. For the most part, the
same number of battles was fought against each encountered fiend "battle
group" so that the relative frequencies of shroud drops among the various
fiend "battle groups" could be compared.

Results of this activity include the observations listed following.

1. Almost every fiend or group fiends battled has the potential of yielding a
shroud as one of the "spoils" of battle. Two Eidolon battles and six battles
within the Faultwarrens area do not produce shrouds.

2. Shrouds are assigned by the game on a "per battle group" basis to fiends.
That is, individual fiends do not drop shrouds, only a "battle group" of
fiends fought (a fiend "battle group" can consist of a single fiend though)
has the capability to drop a single shroud. Thus the "Spoils" of any given
battle will include, at most, one shroud.

3. Shroud type as well as shroud drop schedules are independently assigned by
the game on a "per battle group" basis. That is, any two fiend "battle
groups", even if otherwise identical, need not have the same shroud drop
schedule (e.g., drop rate and time of shroud appearance) or shroud drop type.

4. Once assigned, the shroud drop schedule and shroud drop type remains
unchanged throughout the game for any given fiend "battle group".

5. During "routine" play without special "shroud drop rate enhancement"
accessories equipped, shrouds are not routinely seen as after battle spoils.
It appears that there are multiple base rate schedules for such battles
ranging from "almost never" (effectively zero) to "occasionally" (at best
around two percent).

6. To have a "reasonable" chance of obtaining shrouds as after battle spoils,
it is essential to have the Survivalist Catalog "shroud drop rate enhancement"
accessory equipped to one member of the Battle Team. The increase in shroud
drop rate when this accessory is equipped is significant.

7. It appears that, in some instances at least, having the "rare item drop
rate enhancement" accessory, the Connoisseur Catalog, equipped may increase
the shroud drop rate seen over battles fought without it. In other instances
the increase in effect seems less evident. For insurance, also equip this
accessory to a member of the Battle Team when searching for shrouds. It is an
accessory of lower priority in importance than the Survivalist Catalog and may
not be absolutely necessary however.

8. The distribution of the three shroud types across the Gran Pulse fiend
"battle groups" is not uniform. In fact, the appearance of Aegisol, Deceptisol
and Fortisol seems to be in the approximate ratio of 5:2:1. That is, in an
"average" set of eight fiend "battle groups" one could expect to find five
with Aegisol as the shroud drop, two with Deceptisol as the shroud drop and
one with Fortisol as the shroud drop.

9. As a consequence of the independent assignment of shroud drop schedules,
shroud drop rates and shroud drop types, some fiend groups will be more likely
to drop shrouds of any given type than others. The survey found Survival-
Catalog-assisted shroud drop rates that appear to range from around one
percent to approximately twelve percent over the fiend "battle groups"
encountered.

The shroud collection strategy that emerges from this set of observations is
to: (1) equip Battle Party members with one Survivalist Catalog accessory and,
if practical, with one Connoisseur Catalog accessory and (2) fight a fiend
battle group or groups that have a "good" potential drop rate(s) for the
shroud(s) of interest.

The real "trick" to implementing the strategy is finding "good" fiend "battle
groups" from which to collect the desired shrouds. The tabulation sections are
presented with the aim of eliminating the tedium of finding useful fiend
"battle groups" for shroud collection activities.

                [F3] Source Identification

The cited sources for the Archylte Steppe tabular summaries have been
identified based on post-game survey play. For those, a Battle Party equipped
with one Survivalist Catalog accessory and one Connoisseur Catalog accessory
and capable of producing a five-star victory over each fiend battle group has
been used to collect the data.

The identified sources displayed by other tabulations were investigated under
Chapter 11 play through conditions. For those, a battle party equipped with a
Survivalist Catalog only and capable of producing a five-star victory over
each fiend group has been used to collect the data.

Each tabular summary is composed of individual listings that are organized as
follows:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
| Entry | Fiend | Shroud Type|General Location| Shroud Drop Experience |
|Sequence|Battle Group|------------|----------------|------------------------|
| Number | Composition| Location Specifics |
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For example, a particular two-fiend battle group was investigated and found to
yield 3 Aegisol Shrouds over the span of 50 consecutive battles. A data entry
fit for inclusion in the Archylte Steppe Aegisol Sources tabulation would
appear as follows:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
| |1x Behemoth King | AEGISOL | Archylte Steppe-Northern Highplain| 3/50|
| 005 | + |----------------------------------------------------|
| |1x Megistotherian| Fighting in pathway down slope from Save Station |
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the identified source tabulations that follow, story-line tabular summaries
for story-line pathways are first presented (in the sequence of the first
appearance of each area). Tabulations for non-story-line pathways "outside" of
the story-line trace follow. A third tabulation set is used to collect
observations that do not neatly fit into the story line or peripheral pathway
categorization scheme.

                [F4] Story Line Pathway Sources

[F41] VALLIS MEDIA

This tabulation presents the single exception to the collection conditions
stipulated in the collection strategy paragraph of the "Background" section
above. No catalogs were equipped by any character and battle results varied
over various star (quality) levels.

The listed results can be compared with those of other tabulations to get a
sense of what shroud collection "success" rate might be experienced with and
without catalogs equipped.

[F42] ARCHYLTE STEPPE CORE

One focus of data collection has been the 120 fiend groups found in the
greater Archylte Steppe area. For presentation convenience, the Archylte
Steppe has been considered to be comprised of a "Core" (Consisting of the
Central Expanse, Eastern Tors, Northern Highplain and Western Benchland
segments) plus two "Peripheral" segments (The Font of Namva and the Aggra's
Pasture - Haerii Archaeopolis segments).

The first three tabular summaries following present the sources to be found in
the Archylte Steppe Core. Tabular summaries for the Archylte Steppe peripheral
segments will be found under the "Peripheral Pathways Sources" heading. There
also is a special class of fiends that can appear in the Archylte Steppe.
Those sources are identified under the "Special Feature Sources" heading.

To emphasize, the three tabulations immediately address the 85 sources
identified for the Archylte Steppe Core only. Additional Archylte Steppe
sources (35) are addressed in the Peripheral Pathway Sources tabulations and
the Special Feature Sources tabulation.

The first tabulation presents a partial listing of 21 of the 52 identified
Aegisol sources as the "better" available sources for Aegisol in the Archylte
Steppe Core. The 31 sources not listed had a "Shroud Drop Experience" of 0, 1
or 2 over 50 battles.

The second tabulation is a complete listing of the 22 identified Deceptisol
sources found in the Archylte Steppe Core.

The third tabulation is a complete listing of the 11 identified Fortisol
sources found in the Archylte Steppe Core.

Observe that encounters with fiend battle groups in the Archylte Steppe that
are not listed as a source in one of the three tabulations should be assumed
to have an Aegisol Shroud as the possible battle spoil with an expected drop
experience less than those displayed for the sources of the Aegisol Source
tabulation.

[F43] MAH'HABARA

Travel through certain parts of Mah'habara is a part of the story line
progression for Chapter 11. Shrouds can be obtained as a part of that travel
activity if desired. The tabulation that follows describes the shroud sources
for the initial portion of the required path through Mah'habara from near the
point of entry from the Archylte Steppe its exit to the Flower-filled Fissure.
Sources are listed in the order of their appearance as the path is traveled.

The tabulation identifies 6 Aegisol, 3 Deceptisol and 2 Fortisol sources.

                [F5] Peripheral Pathway Sources

[F51] VALLIS MEDIA

The Base Camp area within Vallis Media is where the journey through Gran Pulse
begins. Story line action shifts to the Archylte Steppe almost immediately
with Vallis Media becoming an area of interest only to those having
involvement in the pursuit of completion of certain optional side quests
available on Gran Pulse. Vallis Media can also be a useful area for
exploration as a vehicle for gaining needed experience before pushing on
through Gran Pulse in the pursuit of story line matters.

Shroud collection can be a part of activities undertaken in Vallis Media. The
tabulation provided lists the sources for shrouds to be found in Vallis Media.
It assumes travel through the Fingers of Stone area from the Vallis Media Base
Camp area along the path to its exit point into the Yaschas Massif.

The tabulation identifies five Aegisol, three Deceptisol and one Fortisol
sources.

[F52] ARCHYLTE STEPPE

There are two, distinct peripheral pathway segments associated with the
Archylte Steppe Central Core. The Font of Namva segment appears to the
southwest and can be explored with complete access to the Arid Strath pathway.
The Aggra's Pasture - Haerii Archaeopolis segment appears to the east and can
be explored with complete access to the Aggra's Trough pathway. Both require
"special" actions to be completed by the player for entry.

The two, separated tabulations that follow display the shroud sources to be
found in the two segments.

The first tabulation identifies four Aegisol, one Deceptisol and one Fortisol
sources.

The second tabulation identifies ten Aegisol, five Deceptisol and two Fortisol
sources.

                [F6] Special Feature Sources

[F61] CACTUAR

Cactuar fiends are not part of the baseline fiend complement of the Archylte
Steppe. One can move through the Archylte Steppe without ever encountering a
Cactuar. They only appear after the player has chosen to perform actions that
cause a particular Mission Cie'th Stone to become active.

The tabulation identifies seven Aegisol, three Deceptisol and two Fortisol
sources.

                           [G]DESIGN CHANGE IMPACTS

This Guide was first published shortly after the Final Fantasy XIII game was
released in the U.S. The software version used to derive its content was that
of the original game disk which updated the PlayStation 3 System Software as
it downloaded the Final Fantasy III file.

Subsequent events saw changes introduced into the way the game presented
itself as PlayStation 3 System Software updates were made. Presumably the
changes seen were due to game designer alterations introduced as a part of the
System Software revisions. The paragraphs following recognize a few of the
many "small" changes seen. Only those with "significant" impact to the
original facts presented by this guide are illuminated for consideration.

Alterations have been made in guide content to reflect these changes.

1. Originally entrance into the Haerii Oldroad was blocked to entry at the
Aggra's Pasture end until the player had ridden the fal'Cie Atomos into the
Sulyya Springs area. Current software has the path toward the Haerii
Archaeopolis open upon first entry into Aggra's Pasture.

2. The number of dig sites for the Chocobo Treasure Hunting activity was
formerly as many as twenty three (23). Current software uses only twenty (20).
The three sites apparently eliminated are:

a. Eastern Tors - Center of the triangle formed by joining the three
Adamanchelid standing north of the terraced mountain by straight lines.

b. Northern Highplain - On the Northern Antrepass pathway leading to/from the
entrance/exit for the Mah'habara.

c. Central Expanse - On the western side of the top of the small mesa to the
southwest of the pond.

3. Original software occasionally presented some fiend groups as ghostly
outlines or as shadow figures rather than the complete expression of their
being. The two-Flan fiend battle group found by the green Cie'th Stone for
Mission 10 was one of those. The five-Sahagin fiend battle group found in the
Font of Namva area was another. Other than appearance, interaction with these
groups was as with other fiend groups. Current software does not seem to
present the two groups in their ghostly form.

4. Some early software versions produced a distinct "announcement" scene as
the Mah'habara area was first entered. One result of viewing that scene was
the activation of the Mission 52 Cie'th Stone in the Western Benchland area of
the Archylte Steppe. Current software does not have said scene. The Mission 52
Cie'th Stone activation occurs when the player first visits Sulyya Springs.

5. When using early software it seemed difficult to interact with the fal'Cie
Bismarck upon the initial pass through the area of its location. Interaction
could be accomplished after moving on through the story line and then
returning to the fal'Cie location. Current software does not exhibit such a
delay feature. Bismarck is available and waiting for inquiry upon first entry
into its area of residence.

6. Early software versions had completion of Mission 14 as one of the actions
required for activation of Cie'th Stone 64. Current software has Mission 12
completion as the necessary action.

                                [H]TREASURE INDEX

This index lists all the "treasure" identified by the text of this document.
It is organized under four of the game's Main Menu headings, namely
Accessories, Components, Items and Weapons. No other elements of any sort are
addressed by the index. For example, alternate sources for many of the indexed
components exist but those are not attended by the index.

The listing is by alphabetical order under each heading. Certain conventions
are employed to shorten and simplify the presentation.

1. For convenience, Gil as well as Key Item sources are revealed in the "Item"
category. Also for convenience, Mission has been abbreviated as "Mn".

2. Treasure Sphere sources are indicated by using the corresponding location
source code used in the Treasure Sphere section of this document. For
example, FW-4 refers the reader to the fourth Treasure Sphere of the
Faultwarrens series.

3. Treasure Sphere recoveries are "one time only" events that usually result
in the receipt of a single item as the content of the sphere. Occasionally
more than one unit of an item will be contained in a Treasure Sphere. Where a
Treasure Sphere produces more than one item, the number of units contained
will appear in parentheses after the Treasure Sphere location designator in
the Treasure Index listing.

4. Mission sources are designated by Mn followed by the Mission number.

5. Mission Treasures are of two types. The first-time Completion Bonus for
each Mission is a one-time-only event. Each subsequent completion of a Mission
will yield a different, but repeatable, Completion Bonus award. The Treasure
Sphere convention will be used to present Treasure Index list entries for
first time Mission Completion Bonus awards. Bonus rewards for successfully
repeating a Mission will be distinguished by including "R" in the
parenthetical expression following the source designator.

6. Sources other than Treasure Spheres or Mission completions are designated
by a "descriptive" text entry, e.g., Chocobo Treasure Hunt.

7. The convention describing the treasure recovered by these last sources is a
combination of those used for the Treasure Sphere and the Mission Completion
Bonus Treasure Index list entries. Descriptive text without a parenthetical
expression following is indicative of a one-time-only event with recovery of a
single item of the reference type. Descriptive text followed by a number in
parentheses is indicative of a one-time-only event with recovery of the number
of units of the referenced item shown in the parentheses. Descriptive text
with a parenthetical expression containing an "R" is used to designate an
event with repeatable recovery of item(s) of the reference type.
