"Couple an engaging cinematic story with a balanced multiplayer..."

The COD franchise has been going yearly since 2005, and has made a house-hold name for itself, primarily due to last year's mega-hit MW2, made by Infinity Ward last year, the creators of the franchise.

Treyarch and Infinity Ward have been tag-teaming the series ever since, and the community has been driven in half by those who like Treyarch and those who like Infinity Ward. The calamity that was Modern Warfare 2 last year has left a sour taste in the community, which Treyarch was overjoyed with this fantastic opportunity to redeem themselves to the IW fanboys, and continue to do the very best they could for the rest. They have succeeded.

Single Player------------------------------------------------------------------------

The COD series has never been known for it's single player experience, as most people who pick up the games go straight to Multiplayer. But this is without a doubt the best campaign in a Call Of Duty game yet. The plot is set in the Cold War, and revolves around Alex Mason, a CIA agent who is tasked by JFK himself to assassinate multiple high-profile individuals. I will avoid saying much more than that to avoid spoilers, but don't worry, the campaign has amazing plot twists and revelations which will keep you at the edge of your seat. It's a globe-trotting adventure, taking you all across the world, to varied locations including Hong Kong, Cuba, Soviet Russia, Vietnam, Laos, and even several missions set in the United States itself.

The gameplay is still the same basic FPS campaign style, enter room, kill enemies, rinse repeat. But they prevent this from getting stale by spinning things up all the time with cinematics, surprise objectives, and all that. I sincerely enjoyed the single player experience in this game, and you owe it to yourself to experience.

Multiplayer----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The addictive COD multiplayer experience returns in this game too, with a few surprises. You know what the biggest one is?

The multiplayer is BALANCED. Yeah. Ever heard of that?

All the guns serve their purpose this time. Shotguns dominate in CQC, but are useless past that. SMGs are perfect for quickly engaging several enemies in semi-close range, and with a skilled user, capable at certain ranges. Assault rifles are medium at nearly all ranges. Sniper rifles are king at long ranges, but pointless in close range. And MG's are the best at holding down locations from a large number of enemies at a time.

The currency system also brings in the new freedom of being able to use what you want. You don't like Flashbangs? Don't buy them. Save your money on a Suppressor for that MP5 you got. Genuis.

Conclusion-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Call Of Duty: Black Ops is the greatest COD experience to date. The multiplayer is actually balanced, as well as hosting the best campaign to date, good enough to make a very good movie. Zombies also returns, and it's more of the amazing same as it was in World At War.

I give it a 10 for perfect. The reason being, there are no flaws. Sure, there are things they COULD have added to make it better, but those aren't flaws. If you have any interest at all in this game, buy it now. Your money is well spent, and I'll see you online. -DjC
