Fallout 3: Mothership Zeta

How do I get past the observation deck?

I have re-entered the Mothership after the spacewalk, activated the switch for the teleporter to the Engineering Core. I am now viewing the Earth Wasteland through the glass but no alien hologram. Instead, the alien worker is running around, Sally keeps on babbling on about making the aliens mad, Somah, the cowboy, and Elliot are hanging around the controls. I cannot open the next door. Any suggestions??

I suppose what I would do is load a save as close to the space walk as possible and retry it from there
