Is there a key response lag in FIFA 11?

Hi, i've noticed that upon sprinting in FIFA 11, the direction of the sprint is also used as the direction for the immediate shot.. i've tried releasing the sprint-waiting- and then passing... however the game still tends to lag by using previous directions.. is there a solution? or just wait before we can click a new direction. its a big problem cause we tend to miss important passes..
