   ==   Version History

1.2 (11/08/2013) - Added some new info for the Steam version. Also finally
                   added the eggplant secret, as well as DLC and Title Update
                   info. Some of the info is probably a bit out-of-date now but
                   oh well!

1.1 (14/08/2012) - Added a few little things like Pop Culture references and
                   the Hell Gold Idol Trap, as well as a few more Frequently
                   Asked Questions. Also added Achievement List.

1.0 (30/07/2012) - Done! Fixed up some formatting, and finished up with the
                   Advanced Tips and Journal Entries. Still need to confirm
                   a couple of things, but yeah, basically complete! If you
                   search "NEED TO CONFIRM" and can confirm/deny the claims, or
                   search "?????" and know the answer, send me an email. :)
                   Thanks!

0.5 (25/07/2012) - I begin my FAQ! Most of the raw data is in here, but I'll
		   definitely need to fix up some formatting. Anyone reading
		   this with some Spelunky knowledge, let me know of anything
		   incorrect or missing! If you search "NEED TO CONFIRM" and
		   can confirm/deny the claims, or search "?????" and know the
                   answer, send me an email. :) Thanks!

   ==   About Spelunky

   = Official description taken from http://spelunkyworld.com/whatis.html :

You may have seen Spelunky mentioned somewhere and asked yourself "What's
Spelunky?". Spelunky is a platformer with lots of monsters, items, traps, and
secrets. Dying in Spelunky can be quick and painful. But each time you restart,
you'll play a new, randomly-generated set of levels! It will feel fresh and
exciting, and you'll have to think on your feet. You can pick up and use or
toss practically everything you come across (to your own detriment, if you're
not careful!). There's a lot of freedom to how you want to navigate the levels,
which are fully-destructible. And even though they're randomized, you will
still get more skilled over time! If you play enough, not only will you get
good enough to beat the game, but you may start to unravel some of its deepest
secrets...

The original game was released on PC in 2008 and is available to play for free.
Since then, Andy Hull and I have been working on this new version for XBLA.
It's much more than a port of the original game, and has new graphics, music,
zones, monsters, items, traps, and secrets. The controls are much smoother,
too, and designed specifically for the gamepad. And even though the game is
randomized, players of the original enjoyed highscoring and speedrunning,
so we're trying to limit the luck involved. You'll be able to compete on
XBLA's leaderboards.

   = What Spelunky is actually about

Spelunky is all about dying over and over and getting frustrated and hating
yourself and then breaking your $1500 plasma TV by throwing your Xbox
controller through it and cursing the developer Derek Yu and his next 3
generations. And it's fun! :D In all seriousness this is a game that does not
mess around as the punishment for any mistake is often severe. It's a game that
forces you to learn it's mechanics through repeated deaths. As a result of
its randomised levels, you get good at THE GAME and not good at memorising the
optimal path to take. And it's addicting as all hell, with the lightning-fast
death-rebirth gameplay making it a "just one more time" kind of game that is
never, ever just one more time. It is very hard and you will die a lot, but
you will get better and it's the victory after a hundred deaths that is the
most satisfying!

===============================================================================
===============================================================================

   = Introduction

There is much to learn about Spelunky, most of which will come naturally after
many playthroughs. Since the game is randomly generated it is difficult to
write up a specific "walkthrough" and instead I've opted to list various things
to be aware of in the game, as well as a few tips to help you. You start the
game in a tutorial (which you can revisit) and it'll teach you the bare bones
mechanics of the game so I'm writing this guide assuming you've at least gone
through this tutorial.

The Areas section of the guide, as well as the Areas in the Secrets section,
details area-specific tips to help you through the game, as well as various
information such as enemies present, events, secrets etc.

For in-depth information on certian Enemies/Items/Traps, refer to the Journal
section.

   ===   Gameplay			[##GAM00]

===============================================================================
===============================================================================

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   === Gameplay Elements

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Gold

Primarily your "score" but also used in the traditional sense as money in
shops. The value of the treasure you find increases by 25% of the base value
for every new area you visit. i.e. gold bars are worth $500 in the Mines, $625
in the Jungle etc. The exception is the Gold Idol, whose value is
5000*Area number ($5000 in Mines, $10000 in Jungle etc.).

Base value: Small Gold Nugget - $100
			 Large Gold Nugget - $500
			          Gold Bar - $500
			Stack of Gold Bars - $1500
			     Small Emerald - $200
			    Small Sapphire - $300
			        Small Ruby - $400
			           Emerald - $800
			          Sapphire - $1200
			              Ruby - $1600
			           Diamond - $5000
			         Gold Idol - $5000
			            Scarab - $5000
			        Gold Crown - $5000 (can only be found in Jungle
                                                  during "restless dead" event)
			     Crystal Skull - $15000 (can only be found in
                                                   Jungle during "restless
                                                   dead" event)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Damsels

They have a few uses: take them to the exit to gain a heart; sacrifice them to
Kali; use as a weapon; use as a meat shield! They're surprisingly efficient as
a weapon as they don't give you any ricochet damage (like arrows and rocks) so
you can throw them around a bit without any fear of hurting yourself! They can
also soak up an arrow from an Arrow Trap for you, regardless of which
direction you're facing. They only have 3 HP so don't damage them too much!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Shops

You can spend gold on items here or, if you're short on cash or feeling like a
bit of excitement, steal them. Stealing an item, hurting the shopkeeper,
throwing a bomb into the shop or bombing/mining any block within 2 or so
blocks of the shop causes the shopkeeper to FLIP THE **** OUT and start
shotgunning like wild, chasing you down until either of you are dead. If
you're new it is advised you avoid angering the shopkeeper at all costs. If you
steal from the shopkeeper, he will be waiting at the exit of the the next 2
levels. If he is damaged in ANY WAY (including things off-screen out of your
control - you will know because the message "You will pay for your crimes!"
will pop up) he will be at the exit of EVERY LEVEL for the rest of the game.

There are a few different types of shops, identifiable by the signs at the
front:
		Bomb Store	- only sells Bomb Bags, Bomb Boxes and Paste

		General Store	- sells random things from all shop types

		Specialty Store	- sells items useful for navigation i.e.
				  Compass, Climbing Gloves etc.

		Clothing Store	- sells items that can be worn i.e. Capes,
				  Shoes etc.

		Weapon store 	- sells weapons

		Kissing Booth	- sells kisses from Damsels. Damsels can be
				  bought by picking them up before pressing RB

		Wheel of Prizes	- has one item, play a game to win money/the
				  item ala wheel of fortune

		Hired Hands - sells a helpful NPC who is ONLY GOOD FOR
				  SACRIFICING TO KALI.

See the Item Journal Entries [##JOU00] for a list of prices.

Useful tip: if you see a shop with a machete, freeze gun or shotgun it is
very easy to kill the shopkeeper. For the machete and shotgun, just pick it up
and mash the X button on him. For the freeze gun, pick it up and wait til he
walks a little closer to the middle of the shop, then shoot him and jump on him
to crush the ice.

Tip 2: you can bring golden idols to shopkeepers to sell it instantly. Just
drop it on the ground of the shop (don't throw it!).

Sidenote: you will find shopkeepers entombed in the ground every now and then
(it's actually one per area). These are solely for highscore purposes. Look up
Advanced Tips for more info.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Altars

Altars are used to sacrifice creatures to Kali, the God of Death. You
sacrifice something by placing either a dead or unconscious creature on the
altar. The "value" of each sacrifice depends on the creature and its state,
which I've assigned relative to Damsels who have a value of 10 when alive:

	Damsel: 		10
	Damsel (dead): 		5
	Slave: 			10
	Slave (dead): 		5
	Shopkeeper: 		?????
	Shopkeeper (dead): 	2.5
	Yeti: 			2.5
	Yeti (dead): 		2.5
	Caveman: 		?????
	Caveman (dead): 	?????
	Scorpion: 		?????
	Mantrap: 		?????
	Hawk Man: 		?????
	Hawk Man (dead): 	?????

Getting 10 points will give you a random clothing item that you don't have yet
(rarely a Cape, never a Jetpack). 20 points will give you the Kapala (very
useful - accumulates blood and turns it into health). Every 20 points after
that will give you some instant health, usually 4+.

If you destroy an altar, you will anger Kali. This will spawn about 10
spiders immediately. Angering Kali a second time will curse you with a ball
and chain, which makes it incredibly hard to navigate, although the ball does
have the ability to destroy terrain. A third destroyed altar makes the Ghost
spawn instantly, as well as at the start of every level after that.

If you place an Idol on the altar, a Golden Monkey will spawn. The Golden
Monkey will poop treasure every now and then. They'll ONLY poop small and
large gold nuggets and the small gems, at an irregular interval. If you keep it
until it stops pooping (about 2 minutes), you should get roughly 150% the gold
you'd get from taking the Idol to the exit. *NEED TO CONFIRM*

You can also place a Crystal Skull on an Altar (from a "restless dead" level),
which will spawn a Crystal Monkey, although the chances of both a Crystal Skull
and Altar spawning in a "restless dead" level are incredibly rare. It has
darker skin and white fur, and seems to function identically to the Golden
Monkey. *NEED TO CONFIRM*

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Shortcuts

Shortcuts are unlocked by meeting Tunnel Man and giving him the items he
wants. Tunnel Man will always appear at the end of an area e.g. after
completing 1-4 and you need to meet him 3 times to unlock each shortcut.

	Jungle Shortcut: 1 bomb, 1 rope, $10000
	Ice Caves Shortcut: 2 bombs, 2 ropes, Shotgun
	Temple Shortcut: 3 bombs, 3 ropes, Mines Key

Useful tips: For the Ice Caves shortcut, getting a Shotgun through the Jungle
can be a pain for new players. You can either buy one, randomly find one or
kill a shopkeeper for one. However there's a much easier, secret way.
If you get a "restless dead" event, there will always be a tombstone with
"ASH" engraved on it. Bomb the square below it to get a Shotgun (great
reference to the Evil Dead series!).

As for the Temple Shortcut, the Mines Key refers to the gold key you can only
find in the Mines so essentially you need to be good enough at the game to
get to the Temple from the beginning, with the added burden of having your
hands full.

Sidenote: Using shortcuts prevents you from being on the Fastest Time
leaderboards.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Ghost

If you stay in an area for 150 seconds you will get the message "A terrible
chill runs up my spine...", which indicates the spawning of a Ghost. The
Ghost is invincible, can pass through walls and will insta-kill you on
contact. One important thing to mention is they will turn any gems in the
level (not including gems in the ground, and not including the small gems) into
Diamonds by passing through them. Combined with the entombed shopkeeper there
is a potential to earn MUCH gold (refer to Advanced Tips). Ideally you want to
get to the exit ASAP when you get the message.

Sidenote: You can "stun" the Ghost by using a Camera on it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Events

Every now and then you'll start a level with a message displayed at the
bottom of the screen. These change the layout of the level somewhat, and also
the enemies present. There can be more than one event at once (i.e. a dark
level that is also a rushing water level).

The Steam version of the game also comes with the XBLA DLC characters for free.
They aren't unlocked automatically however, and are usually found in special
areas like these in a coffin.

Details of the different events can be found in the Tips and Areas
section below.

===============================================================================
===============================================================================

   ===   Tips				[##TIP00]

===============================================================================
===============================================================================

   = General Tips

===============================================================================

 - You will always start the game next to an item you can pick up (rock, urn,
skull etc.). Pick it up as it will be useful to a) throw at enemies and
b) trigger arrow traps.

 - Look down before jumping down a pit where you can't see the bottom. Holding
down for a few seconds shifts the view to below you - it can be very useful to
scout for spikes or enemies or areas where you might take fall damage.

 - Never whip an urn while you're standing over it! An enemy may be hiding in
it. Either take a step away before whipping, or throw the urn against a wall.

 - Be careful of skeletons! Any skeleton may come to life, so be sure to whip
them before you walk over them.

 - Your whip takes a second to have its hitbox trigger (ala Castlevania). Its
hitbox also lingers for a bit so use it to your advantage! You can even whip
arrows from arrow traps if your whip is already out and there are at least 2
empty spaces between you and the arrow trap. One crappy thing about the whip
is that its hitbox is actually SHORTER than the sprite. Ridiculous!

 - You want to open all the crates you can. Generally it'll be worth using a
single bomb or rope for crates that are out of reach as you're likely to gain
them back either from the crate itself, or later on. Crates often contain
useful items (including Jetpacks and Plasma Cannons!) Don't be an item hoarder!

 - Sacrifice a damsel if you can! The Kapala you get for sacrificing 2 damsels
is incredibly useful, well worth the 2 lost hearts. You may also get a good
item from the first sacrifice (possible to get Cape or Climbing Gloves).

 - Crouching next to a ledge then using a rope will make the rope fire downward
one space in front of you. This is useful to climb down long falls or set off
arrow traps.

 - If you fall on an enemy, you won't take fall damage regardless of how far
you fall.

 - The Jetpack is, in my opinion, the best item in the game. If you see it in
a shop, get it! If you're not comfortable killing shopkeepers yet, just be sure
to collect as much gold as possible. It'll make traversing every area in the
game much easier, especially in the Ice Caves.

 - Rope can damage enemies above you. This can be useful if you have an excess
of ropes or a Jetpack.

 - Crawling over a ledge will make you drop your item. Be careful if you're
holding a rock or other heavy item! It may hurt you on the way down. A bit of
a silly game mechanic, but it can be bypassed by just running off the ledge and
turning backward quickly.

 - In the Mines, Jungle and Temple it's possible to get the message "It's so
dark in here..." which makes the level mostly dark. You will always have a lit
torch at the entrance, which you can use to light wall-mounted torches that
increase the light radius. The one little favour this event throws your way is
that the traps are lit up. Generally it sucks to have this happen as it makes
the level much harder, although the golden scarabs give a LOT of money so it
can be useful for high score runs or if you want to buy the Ankh. You can
relight a torch (if you drop it in water) by bringing it to a wall-lit torch.
Some good advice is to take it slow, drop your torch down any hole you can't
see the bottom and listen closely for any enemy sounds.

   = Advanced Tips

===============================================================================

   = Ironman Achievement

===============================================================================

To unlock the Ironman achievement, you need to beat the main game without
using any shortcuts. If you haven't already, go over the General Tips section
for some basic, universal tips, and the Areas section of the guide for a lot of
tips on how to get through areas and what to look out for.

 - Take your time when exploring levels - pick up every bit of gold you can
find (including the single gold bars!). If you can do so safely, take the Idols
to the exit. You'll want to buy a lot of what the shopkeepers have to offer.

 - Before attempting the achievement, practice the Temple area using a
shortcut. It'll be very beneficial to learn how to beat it without any good
items and it'll make it much easier to beat when you get here from the start!
If you haven't unlocked the shortcut yet, look over the Areas section for
tips or Frequently Asked Questions.

 - Buy bombs! As long as you're above 10 or so, the most difficult obstacles
can be easily avoided.

 - Don't take unnecessary risks! Seriously, 99% of your deaths will be from
when you do something stupid, like take fall damage, or get too close to
enemies etc. Bomb or mine safe routes for yourself! If that Tiki Trap is in
a hard-to-get-by spot, just bomb it! When you use a bomb, run the hell away
as flying debris can hurt you. If it looks like a big drop, use a rope! If
there's a Mummy and a Crush Block in front of you and you're thinking, "maybe
I can get the Crush Block to kill the Mummy for me!", stop thinking that and
bomb a path down and away from them. Be methodical about it and don't rush.

 - If you're going for this achievement, you should be able to get through the
Mines no sweat. While you're there remember to pick up the Udjat Eye so you
can find the Black Market in the Jungle. You may want the Ankh as it gives you
an extra life, but most of all you'll want to buy everything else!

 - If you run into a dark level, just take it slow. If you have the Compass,
bomb your way toward the exit if you have to. Just don't jump down a hole
without knowing what's at the bottom!

 - For the sake of just earning the achievement, DO NOT anger the
shopkeepers! It's not worth the hassle you will face at the end of every
level. If you followed the last tip you should have enough money for the
important items.

 - What are the important items? In order of priority (my opinion):
Jetpack > Kapala > Bombs + Cape + Climbing Gloves + Shotgun > Ankh > Paste.
The rest of the items are neither here nor there; it'd be nice to have them but
you really don't need them.

 - Even though I've listed the Jetpack as the best item, don't steal it! If
you can buy it, buy it. Having said that it is quite expensive and may prevent
you from buying the Ankh - in my opinion it's worth it.

 - The Kapala more than makes up for the 2 damsels you have to sacrifice.
Just by having it you almost eliminate the danger of dying from enemies,
although you'll still have to be careful around the stronger enemies like
Anubis and Mummies and Mammoths. Basically you should be safe for all the
things that WON'T one-hit kill you!

 - You can always do with more bombs. They are invaluable in the Temple,
when you need to bomb your way past Mummies and Anubis (with Paste you can
easily take Anubis on), and they'll make the Olmec battle a piece of cake.
Most of all you'll want to use them to avoid dangerous routes, and you're
gonna need a lot of them so if you see some in a shop, buy them.

 - The Cape and Climbing Gloves are a good substitue for the Jetpack (not
quite as good, but decent). They'll make the Ice Caves very easy.

 - The Shotgun makes it a breeze taking care of enemies. Not really
necessary, but definitely a big help. Just don't accidentally shoot any
shopkeepers or damsels!

 - The Ankh is ok, a little overpriced for what it does. In my opinion
spend your money on bombs and the Jetpack/Cape + Climbing Gloves. If you
happen to be super-rich when you get to the Black Market, get all of them!

 - The Paste makes it easier to deal with the tougher enemies. Nice
to have, but not really a necessity. The rest of the items you can do without,
but likewise are nice to have.

 - Use the bomb method to beat Olmec (see Areas - Temple - How to beat Olmec).
Why risk death right at the end? Don't forget to raid the area above Olmec for
more bombs.

If you've played it safe and have a lot of bombs and some good items for
traversing the areas, you should be able to get this achievement quite easily.
The main thing is just to collect a lot of money to buy some good items in
the shops. Obviously getting to the Black Market will make this easier.

===============================================================================

   = To Hell and Back achievement

===============================================================================

To unlock the To Hell and Back achievement, you need to "beat the game the hard
way" i.e. beat Hell. This requires you to go through a series of side-quests
while beating the game without shortcuts, and so many of the tips from the
Ironman achievement apply here. Refer to Secrets - Areas for info on how
to get there as well as tips for the different sections of the side-quests.

 - There are two main ways to go about this, and they largely depend on how
many bombs you have by the time you reach the Black Market. If you have $50000
and about 20 bombs when you get there, just buy the Ankh and be on your way
(buying any good items you can afford). Just hope you find some good items
before the Temple. If you're short on cash or short on bombs, you're going to
want to steal the Ankh, as well as every other item in the level to stock up
for Hell. In my opinion the second option is better as there's less
uncertainty as to whether or not you'll have the equipment to take on Hell, not
to mention you'll always have the opportunity to grab a Shotgun (this is useful
because you'll lose your weapon when you die in the Ice Caves and when you get
Anubis' Sceptre). The obvious downside is you're going to have to kill a LOT of
shopkeepers.

 - With the second option, there are two ways to go about this too - either
have the shopkeepers aggressive by the time you reach the Black Market, or
passive. If you've already stolen something or killed a shopkeeper,
entering the Black Market is very dangerous. My only advice is to throw a rope
up at the entrance, climb it and throw bombs into the shops when it's safe.
Ideally the shopkeepers will fall to lower floors, leaving you the upper floors
to loot. If they're passive, this gives you more time to plan an attack. Find
a spot that's easy to hide in, such as the space one block below the top of a
ladder or the spot in the top right of the map. From these safe spots throw
some bombs and anger the shopkeepers, blowing holes in the floor so they fall
down. Often they'll kill each other, so pick up Shotguns from the corpses.
It's a good idea to fire over and over with a Shotgun when searching a lower
floor, as sometimes corpses soak up most of the bullets. Just keep shooting
until you're 100% sure the shopkeepers are dead! I believe the second option
is better, as the extra planning is invaluable and again minimises risk.
Before reaching the Black Market, buy all the bombs you can afford.

 - You will NEED Paste in this run, and a Pitcher's Mitt will help greatly.
Shopkeepers, Anubis, Anubis II, Mummies and King Yama can all be taken care of
with sticky bombs, so kill any Giant Spiders you see while in the Mines.

 - If you've raided the Black Market, the Ice Caves should be no sweat. It's
very rare I've gone through the Black Market without a Jetpack OR Cape.

 - The Temple shouldn't be too bad, just make sure to kill Anubis when he
isn't near lava or a Crush Trap. And when you pick up his Sceptre, DO NOT FOR
THE LOVE OF GOD USE IT! Half the time you'll end up killing yourself. And don't
forget to bomb safe routes for yourself! Also remember Anubis is always on 4-1
and the City of Gold door is always on 4-2!

 - Watch out for traps in the City of Gold. All the gold makes it blend
together with regular old blocks!

 - For Hell specific tips, see Secrets - Areas - Hell

If you do manage to get this achievement, congrats! Not a hell of a lot (HAHAHA
LAUGHING AT MY OWN JOKE) of people can do this, although the hardest is yet to
come.

===============================================================================

   = Big Money Achievement

===============================================================================

For this achievement you need to have at least $500,000 in a single run. Note
that this is HAVE, not EARN, so if you've spent some that effectively lowers
your score. In my opinion this is harder than the Speedlunky and To Hell and
Back achievements as you have to really be aggressive and risky when attempting
it.

 - Obviously you should be collecting all the gold you can. OBVIOUSLY.

 - Dark levels are your friend! If you're good enough to beat Hell, you can
handle a dark level. Pick up all the Scarabs you can.

 - You're going to want to be good at shopkeeper killing. In 1-2 there's a very
high chance a shop will spawn - if he's selling a Machete, Freeze Ray or
Shotgun, kill him with it. If he's selling a lot of bombs, steal a box then
throw a few in his shop until he dies or falls somewhere, then loot the rest
of his stuff. If he's selling a Jetpack, STEAL IT!! Anything else and I'd
restart until he was selling one of these things. Shopkeepers also drop a
fair amount of gold when you kill them which helps for the achievement.

 - The reason you want these items is that you're going to need them for some
Ghostrunning (making the Ghost turn gems into diamonds - see Gameplay for more
info). The Jetpack makes running from the Ghost easier, while the bombs and
Shotgun make it easier to kill shopkeepers, including the entombed ones.

 - You can find a lot (A LOT) of loose gems from the trapped shopkeepers - an
easy way to open it up and kill the shopkeeper is to bomb the side of it,
making sure you're on the same level as the shopkeeper. If you've already
killed a shopkeeper you should have a Shotgun, so wait until the bomb is
about to explode to open the side then start shooting. You should kill him
before he can react. If you collect the gems now, you'll only get roughly
$20000.

 - If you still have a lot of time before the Ghost shows up, bomb open some
espace routes and throw some ropes here and there so you can safely
outmanoeuvre it. Having the Jetpack makes avoiding the Ghost very easy.

 - The Ghost always enters from the side you are closest to, so use it to
your advantage. Sometimes a treasure room will be at an extreme end of the
map, which makes it impossible to get the Ghost to pass over it if it spawns
on the opposite side. If you convert all the gems into diamonds, you'll
usually get around $80,000.

 - Raid the Black Market. Since you've already angered the shopkeepers might
as well steal everything they have too - the bombs can be useful for digging
out gems and other items make traversing/escaping the Ghost easier too.

 - The Ice Caves are very easy to Ghostrun effectively - you can also use the
Mines to bomb out gems as well. If you have the Jetpack or Cape/Climbing
Gloves, try to turn EVERY gem you see into a diamond.

 - If you got lucky with bombs in the Black Market, the City of Gold is the
place to use them. Bomb EVERYTHING, kill the Mummies and just have a blast.
You can usually leave here with over $100,000, much more if you decide
to do a bit of Ghostrunning. Just save about 12-15 for Olmec.

 - You don't HAVE to go to Hell to get over $500,000, but if you're good
enough it'll definitely make it easier. If you can successfully Ghostrun
three out of four of the treasure rooms, that should net you roughly
$250,000 - $300,000. All four and you should be sitting anywhere between
$300,000 - $350,000. You automatically earn $50,000 for beating Olmec and
there's also about $30,000 worth of gems above him too. So really you only
need to earn about $70,000 - $150,000 (depending on how many treasure rooms you
Ghostrun) from loose treasure, the City of Gold, killing shopkeepers and
taking Idols to the exit.

 - If you just Ghostrun one or two treasure rooms, you can easily make the
$500,000 from beating Hell. You earn $100,000 from beating King Yama and his
throne of rubies is worth about 40*3200 = $128,000. That's $228,000 just for
beating Hell!

The main thing here is Ghostrunning, especially with the treasure rooms. If you
can do that successfully (I cannot stress enough how useful the Jetpack is when
doing this!) this achievement will be yours.

   == MULTIPLAYER METHOD

Since the total score applies to all players, it is definitely easier to do
this with a buddy. One particularly good method is to bring a Plasma Cannon
into the City of Gold with you, as one player can hold the Scepter and
another can hold the Plasma Cannon. Then just blow the whole place to pieces
and you'll earn a LOT of cash. Just be aware that your score isn't saved in
multiplayer.
It might be possible to do this with a Hired Hand, although it
would be incredibly difficult due to the unpredictable and downright stupid
behaviour of "friendly" NPCs.

===============================================================================

   = Speedlunky Achievement

===============================================================================

This achievement requires you to beat the game in under 8 minutes. It might
seem impossible, but it's actually not too bad, although a lot of it comes
down to luck.

 - Try to have $3000 by the time you reach 1-2 so you can buy a Compass if
it's for sale. The Compass is by far the most useful item to have during a
speedrun (except maybe a Jetpack but during a Speedrun you're probably not
going to be picking up enough money to afford one!)

 - On that same note, don't try and steal anything. Dealing with shopkeepers
is a pain and not worth it, unless there's a Jetpack in 1-2 and you want to
attempt a SUPER speedrun.

 - If they aren't too out of the way, try to open crates you see. You might
get a few bombs or ropes, or even a good item. Fingers crossed you don't get
a parachute! Same goes for Damsels. If they're only a tiny bit off the path,
pick them up and save them. During a Speedrun it's likely you're going to die
just from continously taking damage, be it from bats, or long falls etc. Also
the bigger gold amounts (triple gold bars or rubies) - money is always good!

 - Always look down when there's a big fall, unless you have ropes to spare in
which case throw one down. If you take fall damage, you get stunned for ages
therefore ruining any time you might have saved NOT looking down.

 - If you get the "I hear snakes. I hate snakes!" event, GET THE MATTOCK! It'll
make digging shortcuts so much easier! Combined with the Compass you can get
through most areas easily!

 - If you can afford them, buy the Climbing Gloves. They're the cheapest item
that will make the Ice Caves easier. I wouldn't bet on it though, but if you've
been opening crates you should at least have some ropes.

 - As always, bomb a safe route in the Temple! Don't anger ANYTHING unless you
absolutely have to.

 - Lastly, use the Speedrun method on Olmec (see Areas - Temple - How to beat
Olmec for more info)

Not the hardest achievement ever, but it does require some skill when moving
quickly, as well as a bit of luck.

===============================================================================

   = Low Scorer Achievement

===============================================================================

To get this achievement you have to beat the game without picking up any
treasure. This doesn't just mean gems, but ANY AMOUNT OF GOLD. Even
a small gold nugget! This is hardest achievement in the game, at least in my
opinion, mainly due to its reliance on luck.

 - You can whip gold and gems out of your way. This is useful in the Mines
where there are often narrow corridors.

 - Dark levels are almost a guaranteed failure. Lighting torches spawns gold
IMMEDIATELY, so you actually have to try to avoid them! If you're cheap you
can always turn the brightness up.

 - If it's at all feasible, get the Udjat Eye. That way you can see gems
in the ground which can help with bomb placement, and it'll help a LOT during
the Olmec fight!

 - There are no medals for speed. Take your time and TRULY scout out an area
before you proceed. In the Mines, you can get single gold bars behind wooden
platforms that can be quite hard to see. In the Jungle, tall grass can hide
single gold bars, and on top of trees they're almost invisible! Whip every
treetop before you run over it! In the Ice Caves, a snowy level can make it
impossible to see small gold. Lastly in the Temple, gold can hide behind
pillars. Just BE CAREFUL, take it slow and whip anything you're not sure
about!

 - Since you have no money, you're going to have to make do with whatever you
find in crates. Hope for bombs, they'll help out with Olmec.

 - Obviously don't anger shopkeepers by stealing - you will lose.

 - Be very, very careful with bombs. If possible, bomb areas that don't have
any gold or gems in the ground, because that stuff can fly right at you.

 - If you get the "I hear snakes. I hate snakes!" event, GET THE MATTOCK! It
is much easier to dig shortcuts with this than with bombs. Just be careful with
the rubies at the bottom of the pit - bomb the Mattock out of the ground then
get the hell away, and hope the rubies land away from the Mattock!

 - Collecting money automatically disqualifies you. You can't spend the money
to get to $0 and get the achievement, and you can't get a Monkey to steal
the gold. The second you pick up some gold, you lose.

 - The bomb method is probably the safest method to beat Olmec. With every bomb
just make sure you run away - flying gold can be a killer! If you have the
Udjat Eye you can scout for the safest path. Of course this method relies on
you having some bombs, so if you don't, throw some ropes up to the treasure
and hope for the best!

Other than this there's not much advice to give. I won't lie, a lot of this
achievement relies on luck (dark levels, snowy levels, unavoidable
gold, having no bombs etc.). But if you persevere, it's a mathematical
certainty that eventually you'll succeed!

   ===   Areas		[##ARE00]

===============================================================================
===============================================================================

   == The Mines

===============================================================================

   = Enemies

- Bats
- Snakes
- Cobras
- Scorpions
- Spiders
- Spinner Spiders
- Skeletons
- Cavemen

 = Mini-bosses

- Giant Spiders

   = Traps

- Spikes
- Dart Traps
- Boulder Traps
- Powder Box

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Events

- "My skin is crawling..."

The level is FULL of spiders of all types including Giant Spiders. In fact
there will be a section with 3-4 Giant Spiders in very close proximity, which
can be a pain to get through unscathed. There will also be coccoon-like things
attached to the ceilings which operate similar to urns i.e. may contain gems
or spiders. If you've got bombs to spare, killing the Giant Spiders can net
you a fair amount of cash.

Secret DLC Character: Round Girl, in the spider "nest" (PC version only)

- "I hear snakes. I hate snakes!"

Indiana Jones Reference! :D
A snake pit will appear somewhere in the level, with its entrance being
somewhere near the top. There is usually a great deal of gems and crates in
the notches of the pit, along with a few arrow traps to watch out for. It is
also common for the Key and Locked Chest to spawn inside the pit. At the
bottom will always be 2 rubies surrounded by 4 snakes and there will always
be a Mattock underneath these 2 rubies. The Mattock is extremely useful for
digging shortcuts and digging up gems, so getting this Event is always a good
thing.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Gold Idol Trap

In the Mines, the Gold Idol is worth $5000. When you pick it up, the head of
the statue behind you will turn into a boulder, which will roll in the
direction of wherever you are relative to the statue. It is easy to avoid if
you have rope, just make sure you don't throw a rope right where the statue
is or you'll be right where the boulder spawns. Be careful as it destroys
terrain like crazy! If there's a Shopkeeper (including the entombed ones)
or Altar in its path of destruction you will be blamed for the damage. If
you know there are no shops or Altars nearby it can be useful for creating a
shortcut and unearthing treasure.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Tips

 - Arrow traps are probably going to be the first thing to really mess you up.
They do 2 damage (half your health when you start!) and send you flying.
Trigger them by throwing something in front of them, preferably not your body!
You can also whip the arrows if there are at least 2 spaces seperating you
from the arrow trap. Just remember to have your whip already in front of you
as you pass the trap!

 - There will never be an event, shop or altar in 1-1. Use this level to gather
as much treasure as possible as a shop is very common in 1-2 (~90%+).

 - You can run through spikes if you're on the same ground level, but
falling on them from above will kill you instantly.

 - Giant Spiders can easily be killed with a bomb. They always spawn with 2
spider webs directly below it. Throw a bomb into the spider web and you'll
get some Paste and a couple of gems for your trouble!

 - Cavemen and Scorpions can be sacrificed to Kali.

 - In either 1-2, 1-3 or 1-4 a Key and Locked Chest will spawn. Bringing one
to the other will unlock the chest which always contains the Udjat Eye. This
is used to find the Black Market, described below in Secret Areas.

 - The Machete can cut through spider webs instantly, and fire from the torch
can slowly burn them.

 - Powder Boxes can be set off by throwing an item at them, shooting them or
even from flying blood from hitting/killing an enemy. Watch out!

===============================================================================

   == The Jungle

===============================================================================

Shortcut requirements: 1 bomb, 1 rope, $10000

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Enemies

- Bats
- Cavemen
- Tiki Men
- Frogs
- Fire Frogs
- Giant Frogs
- Mantraps
- Piranhas
- Killer Bees
- Snails
- Monkeys
- Jiang Shi
- Vampires

 = Mini-bosses

- Ol' Bitey
- Queen Bee

   = Traps

- Spikes
- Tiki Traps

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Events

- "The dead are restless..."

The level is littered with gravestones, has a thin level of fog throughout and
the traditional Jungle enemies are replaced with Jiang Shi and Vampires. The
piranhas are now skeletal (no new Journal entry) and Skeletons are much more
common. There are a number of special things to note:

- Every restless dead level will spawn exactly ONE gravestone labelled "ASH"
which contains a Shotgun in the dirt below it. Useful for unlocking the Ice
Caves shortcut.

- Often there will be a gravestone with a crown on it, with a skeleton wearing
a gold crown below. The crown is worth a bit of cash, and if you bomb below
here you uncover the entrance to the Haunted Castle.

- There will usually be a Crystal Skull (no new Journal entry) inside a stone
tomb somewhere in the level. Picking it up automatically spawns a Ghost and is
worth $15000 when taken to the exit. If the level also spawns an altar you can
place the Crystal Skull on the altar to spawn a Crystal Monkey which seems to
act identically to the Golden Monkey.

- Vampires always drop Capes upon death.

- "I hear rushing water!"

The bottom of the level is full of water, inside of which are about 20 piranhas
and a giant piranha called Ol' Bitey. At the very bottom are a lot of treasure
and crates, altough getting to it can be difficult. If you have a shotgun or
a lot of sticky bombs you should be able to take care of all the enemies
without too much trouble. Having said that, Ol' Bitey takes a few Shotgun
blasts to go down (almost all enemies only take one) or three bombs. Upon death
it will usually drop a few gems and sometimes a Gold Idol.

Secret DLC Character: Viking, deep in the water (PC version only)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Gold Idol Trap

Definitely the easiest trap to avoid. Picking up the Idol will cause the
platform you're standing on to disappear from the outside in. Simply pick the
Idol up then jump to either side and you should be fine. The Idol is worth
$10000 here.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Tips

 - The difficulty spikes dramatically here! Don't get disheartened. :)

 - Tiki Traps are a huge pain, and will probably be the bane of your existence
for at least a little while. They can only "spike" one side at a time per
block. It's best to tease out the spikes from a distance (using RT seems to
make them spike out at a further distance), then as they're sinking back
inside jump over it. They aren't actually insta-kill, instead doing only 4
damage which is what you'll usually have if you use the Jungle shortcut.

 - You can climb on trees as if you had Climbing Gloves. Mining or bombing
the base of the tree will make the whole thing explode.

 - Tiki Men (boomerang guys) are also a huge pain. They'll throw their
boomerang at you the millisecond you're in their line of sight, which can
often juggle you and keep you in a stun loop. Solution? Never be in their
line of sight! Unless you've stolen his Boomerang, then he just acts like a
normal Caveman.

 - Similarly, you can get trapped in a stun loop by Snail bubbles. Just
avoid them entirely.

 - Mantraps will kill you instantly. Unlike the PC version, having the Spike
Shoes will not make you immune. Throwing a creature at the Mantrap will make
it eat it, stunning it for a few seconds. They can be sacrificed to Kali
while stunned.

 - Frogs can super jump in water - be careful. They also have irregular
jumping patterns, so be mindful before you attempt to jump on one's head.

 - Monkeys don't damage you, although they sometimes steal your items (gold,
ropes or bombs). If they steal a bomb it will ignite and explode shortly.
They may also stun you for a REALLY long time, which can mean death if there
are any other enemies nearby.

 - If you throw a damsel into the fleshy orange bulb, the Worm will eat it.
Regardless of which exit you take, you'll still get the heart at the end
of the level. This is useful if you want to free your hands.

 - Sometimes a Bee's Nest will spawn, where about 10 Bees and 1 Queen Bee
will spawn inside it. The Queen Bee is easy to kill with the Shotgun,
Spike Boots or sticky bombs and will drop Royal Jelly upon death (gives
+4 hearts).

 - Bombing the bottom of a body of water (i.e. its base), the water will
completely drain, killing any piranha that may have been in it.

 - If you're in a sticky situation, remember you can always use bombs to
bypass parts of the level! Or if it's just one Tiki Trap you're worried
about, bomb it. Better to lose a bomb than 4 hearts.

 - If you have the Udjat Eye, you might notice it sparkling and making a
sound in your inventory in levels 2-1, 2-2 or 2-3. This means the Black
Market is in the area, where faster flashing means you're closer to the
entrance. The entrance is always behind some dirt, so you'll need 1 or 2
bombs to open it up.

 - If you get a dark level, curse the cosmos or pray to a god of your
choosing because it's gonna suck. Just play it slow, lighting up as
many torches as you can and avoiding the CRAP out of the Tiki Traps. If
you're unlucky there will be a Tiki Man out of view who can boomerang
smash you into oblivion before you know what's up. Just get to the exit!
Damsels, treasure, golden scarabs be damned!

 - It's possible to find the Secret DLC Character, Round Boy in a Tiki village
(PC version only)

===============================================================================

   == Ice Caves

===============================================================================

Shortcut requirements: 2 bombs, 2 ropes, Shotgun

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Enemies

- Yetis
- Mammoths
- Aliens
- UFOs
- Skeletons

 = Mini-bosses

- Alien Lord
- Yeti King

   = Traps

- Springs
- Mines
- Turrets
- Forcefields

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Events

- "I sense a psychic presence here!"

An alien ship will spawn somewhere in the level, oriented horizontally and
taking up a sizable chunk of the stage. At one of its ends will be an Alien
Lord with a few Forcefields in front of him. He shoots purple rings of death
that are much faster than Anubis'. If you have a shotgun, shoot him from a
distance as the Forcefields reflect projectiles. If you have bombs to spare
(preferably sticky) and a Pitcher's Mitt, throw them from afar. Just whatever
you do do NOT get close to those purple circles. In the ground directly behind
the Alien Lord will ALWAYS be a Jetpack, so if you have the bombs this is
definitely something you want.

- "It smells like wet fur in here."

The level will have a lot more ice and will feel a lot like the other areas
i.e. it's not mostly empty space but there is a lot of tangible terrain. A Yeti
King will spawn somewhere in the middle, who can make icicles fall from the
ceiling if you get near. Killing him will sometimes net you a Compass or Spike
Shoes or both.

Secret DLC Character: Eskimo Girl (PC version only)

- "It feels like the Fourth of July..."

This event always happens on 3-4 and is a reference to the movie Independence
Day. In either the top right or top left of the level will be some sort of
alien building with a hole in the bottom. If you ascend it using ropes,
Climbing Gloves or a Jetpack you'll find a door at the top leading to the
secret area the Mothership. See Secret Areas for more details.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Gold Idol Trap

The Idol is sitting atop a couple of platforms that crack if you stand on
them too long, with a pit of spikes below. These platforms crack faster than
the usual ones, so be quick! If you have any good level-traversing items this
should be easy to take, netting you $15000 in the process.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Tips

 - The Ice Caves are primarily empty space, and so its much easier than the
Jungle, made even more so with certain items. These include: a Cape and
Compass, a Jetpack, and Climbing Gloves. Spike Boots also prevent sliding
on ice blocks. If you have no good items, you're going to have to rely
on ropes to get around. If you have no ropes too, well then you're just
no good at managing items! Get better at that!

 - If you have the Jetpack this area is super easy to loot, so make sure
you do! And if you find an altar you can sacrifice Yetis to hopefully gain
the Kapala if you haven't got it already.

 - Yetis are immune to the whip, but not your shoes! Jump on their heads to
stun them then throw them away. If you accidentally get hit by one, they'll
throw you a ridiculous distance almost guaranteeing your death.

 - Landmines can be picked up and won't detonate until you place them down
again. Use them like you would bombs, or use them as a trap for enemies.

 - The UFOs in this area are incredibly volatile. They shoot terrain-exploding
lasers at you, and their ship explodes after they contact ground when you jump
on them! Don't kill them unless you absolutely have to, their explosiveness can
be a problem in an area so devoid of terrain.

 - There are blue platforms that fall a few seconds after standing on it.
Whatever you do, do NOT be underneath one when it falls! You will be squished.
Just know that hanging off the side of a fall-able platform is enough to make
it fall.

 - If you throw a damsel into the fleshy orange bulb, the Worm will eat it.
Regardless of which exit you take, you'll still get the heart at the end
of the level. This is useful if you want to free your hands.

 - In either 3-2 or 3-3 you'll notice a big blue Moai Statue with an Ankh
symbol on its forehead. If you have the Ankh from the Black Market, when you
die anywhere in the level you'll respawn inside the statue and gain the
Hedjet. Unlike the PC version, the Ghost will still spawn if you have the
Hedjet. Make sure you've done everything you can in the level (save damsels,
get treasure etc.) because once you die you're forced to advance to the next
level.

===============================================================================

   == Temple

===============================================================================

Shortcut requirements: 3 bombs, 3 ropes, Key

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Enemies

- Cavemen
- Skeletons
- Hawk Men
- Croc Men
- Magmamen
- Scorpionflies
- Mummies

 = Mini-bosses

- Anubis

   = Traps

- Lava
- Tiki Traps
- Arrow Traps
- Crush Traps
- Ceiling Traps

Secret DLC Character: Ninja, above Olmec's Lair (PC version only)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Events

- "You hear prayers to Kali..."

The Gold Idol trap in the level will be different. Somewhere there will be a
Damsel and Idol next to one another with a lava pit below. When picking up the
Idol, the floor will disappear instantly. The floor below the lava pit
contains several rubies.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Gold Idol Trap

As soon as you pick the Idol up, doors will enclose you in a room with a
ceiling trap slowly descending on you. You will want to blow up the area where
the doors appear (either one) before picking up the idol to ensure there's an
espace route. Taking it to the exit gives you $20000.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Tips

 - This area does not mess around! You will often be put in situations that are
impossible to get through. The solution? Bomb your way around it. Have a good
look around for a route that likely leads to the exit, and bomb your way there.
No kidding if there's a Mummy in a corridor they are incredibly difficult to
get past without a weapon. In this sense, using the shortcut to get here can
make it more difficult as you'll only have 4 bombs, but it serves as good
practice getting to know the enemies and trap types.

 - Crush Traps are a pain. They're like rooks in chess that only move in 4
directions, heading straight for you AND ONLY YOU (not damsels or other
humanoid enemies) the second you're in their line of sight. Their line of sight,
by the way, goes through walls! Use this to your advantage to lure them out
of dangerous areas without being in danger yourself.

 - Mummies are tough. If you don't have the firepower, avoid them. UNLESS
there's a Tiki Trap between you and it. If you can lead it into the Tiki
Trap's spikes, it'll kill it for you and give you a couple of rubies to boot!

 - Anubis, on the other hand, avoid at all costs unless you have a Shotgun or
sticky bombs. Luckily their purple circles of death are slow, but it's easy to
accidentally get yourself cornered. Bomb your way to safety!

 - Kill Hawk Men as soon as you can. If they spot you they jump around like
crazy and become much harder to get rid of. When they do this it's not
uncommon for them to RUIN YOUR **** at the most inopportune times, when you
think you've gotten enough distance from it.

 - Croc Men teleport around when they see you or when they're hit by something.
As such, they are incredibly annoying to kill. Best to avoid them. One
particularly annoying thing they do is teleporting INTO you killing you
instantly. Very, very uncool.

 - Lava pits shoot out Magma Men every now and then, and also burn any ropes
you throw into it. Throwing a bomb at the lava pit makes it explode instantly.
It acts similar to water in that if you bomb its base, the lava will disappear.

 - Anubis only spawns in 4-1. Upon killing him, he'll drop the Sceptre. Be
careful with that thing! It shoots out purple circles of death in front of you,
which hover for a second then home in on the nearest creature (dead or alive).
If you shoot it while that "something closest to you" is behind you, it'll pass
through you killing you instantly. If you got the Hedjet from the Ice Caves and
have this Sceptre, bring it to 4-2. Somewhere there you'll find a gold door
which only opens if you have these 2 items. See City of Gold in Secret Areas
for more info.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = How to beat Olmec

Once you reach 4-4 you'll come across the main boss, Olmec. To defeat him you
must make him descend into the lava below the level. Note that there is
usually a lot of treasure and crates in the area above Olmec - get up there
with ropes or whatever and loot! Also be aware that Olmec only chases you
while you're within roughly three quarters of a screen of him, so if he's
off-screen he'll be stationary.
There are 3 main ways to beat Olmec:

 - Traditional Method

Run underneath him to make him smash the row of blocks below him. Keep doing
this back and forth and kill the enemies he spawns every now and
then. Be careful not to trap yourself by focussing on one small area for
Olmec to smash - spread it out a bit. It'll take a little longer but it's much
safer. Repeat until he smashes the last row of blocks.

 - Bomb Method

Only use this method if you have 12 or more bombs, which is possible to
accummulate from the area above Olmec. Get Olmec offscreen and bomb a column
of 5-6 blocks wide straight down. Lead him into the pit and voila! Easy
peasy, and definitely the safest method.

 - Speedrun Method

If you have some rope (3 should be enough), run straight to him and wait
for him to stomp on the Hawk Man. After that, run up against him. When he
lands he should create a small gap for you to fit into on the left. Keep
running up against up, then running back to the gap every time he's about
to smash the ground. When he spawns enemies, watch your head and throw a
rope if a bat or a frog or whatever wants to get cozy with you. Keep this
up and he should be down in 30 seconds - just make sure you have some way to
get back out of the hole! This method is very risky as it's easy to get
stuck if you have Climbing Gloves, you can accidentally make Olmec move
left before he smashes, and he might spawn a Fire Frog right at you. It's
high risk but high reward, and once you get a rhythm going it's easy to
repeat.

Beating the game will unlock the Leopard Suit Man and add $50000 to your
score! Woo! There will also be a little gold circle on the top-left of the
entrance to the Mines, and a gold circle on the top-right if you beat it
without shortcuts! There's still a lot more for the game to offer though,
so read on!

   == Worm

===============================================================================

   = Enemies

- Bacterium
- Worm Eggs
- Worm Babies
- Skeletons
- Bats (if entered from the Jungle)
- Mantraps (if entered from the Jungle)
- Frogs (if entered from the Jungle)
- Yetis (if entered from the Ice Caves)
- UFOs (if entered from the Ice Caves)
- Aliens (if entered from the Ice Caves)

   = Traps

- Spikes
- Acid

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = How to get there

In the Jungle and Ice Caves you may notice a fleshy, sweaty, red bulbous thing
coming out of the background that you can stick to. If you throw a Damsel into
it, after a few seconds the level should shake and a Worm will eat the Damsel.
You'll want to be on the bulby thing at the same time (it doesn't work if
you're stuck to it while HOLDING the Damsel) so that you both get eaten. It's
easiest to jump onto the bulb while holding the Damsel, get stuck, then throw
the Damsel (who will immediately get stuck herself) and wait for a bit.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Tips

 - Worm is one of the harder areas in the game, mostly due to its
ridiculous length. Definitely not the ideal place to go for a speedrun!

 - There's a unique trap here, Acid, which doesn't kill you instantly if you
find yourself in it, instead it takes away a heart every few seconds.

 - There are weird bubble-like blocks in the level which disappear when you
whip them, then reappear a few seconds later. If they reappear while you're
standing in its space, you'll die instantly.

 - The Bacterium enemies always circle the terrain surface they're on until
you alter it in some way. They also have a ton of health, so only try to kill
them with bombs or the Crysknife.

 - Always look down before you jump in this level. There are several spike
traps which take up half the width of the room.

 - Somewhere at the mid-end of the level will be a large acid pool that takes
up about 75% of the horizontal space in the room. If you look carefully you'll
notice something in it. It's the Crysknife which replaces your whip and OHKOs
everything, including Mummies and Anubis! *NEED TO CONFIRM* You can bomb the
bottom of the acid pit to drain it to safely pick the Crysknife up.

 - Near the end of the level is a goo sac with a humanoid silhouette inside.
Whipping it open unlocks Meat Boy, the main character from another incredibly
tough XBLA platormer!

"A wolf howls in the distance..."

   = Enemies

- Green Knights
- Frogs
- Fire Frogs
- Mantraps
- Piranhas
- Bats
- Snails
- Monkeys
- Jiang Shi
- Vampires

 = Mini-bosses

- Black Knight

   = Traps

- Spikes
- Tiki Traps

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = How to get there

In any Jungle level with the "The dead are restless..." message, you may find
a gravestone with a picture of a crown on it. Underneath will be a skeleton
wearing a gold crown. If you bomb your way below this skeleton, you'll open
up the entrance to the Haunted Castle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Tips

 - This area is full of vampires. If you didn't get a Cape from the previous
level, now is your chance! Unless you have a Jetpack, that thing owns.

 - There is an unlockable character at the top of the castle, in a coffin. He's
kind of like a mix between Abraham Lincoln and Van Helsing and dresses entirely
in black. Fun fact: I only play as this guy. If you don't want to get through
all the Green Knights and Black Knight, you can bomb the top of the castle and
jump in from the top.

 - The Black Knight holds a unique item: the Shield. Be careful! His shield
reflects projectiles (THIS INCLUDES SHOTGUN SHELLS!!) so either throw something
at him to stun him then steal his Shield, throw a sticky bomb at him, or be
sure he's facing away before shooting your Shotgun at him.

 - The Shield is indestructible, and will kill enemies in a similar manner to
the Crush Traps in the temple. You run at an enemy and squash him against a
wall. It's pretty useful against shopkeepers if you plan on stealing stuff or
killing them for a high score. It's good against Mummies too.

 - There will always be an altar at the bottom of the stage. Take advantage of
all the humanoid enemies you'll find here! Go biblical on everyone's asses and
sacrifice like crazy.

   == Mothership

===============================================================================

   = Enemies

- Aliens
- UFOs
- Alien Tanks

 = Mini-bosses

- Alien Lords
- Alien Queen

   = Traps

- Springs
- Turrets
- Forcefields

Secret DLC Character: Robot (PC version only)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = How to get there

The entrance will always be in level 3-4 during the Fourth of July event.
In either the top right or top left of the level will be some sort of
alien building with a hole in the bottom. If you ascend it using ropes,
Climbing Gloves or a Jetpack you'll find a door at the top leading to the
secret area the Mothership.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Tips

 - These aliens are freakin' nuts! The Alien Tanks shoot out bombs like there's
no tomorrow, blowing themselves and most of the terrain below them up! If you
don't have a jetpack or a few ropes, you can easily find yourself stuck on a
certain floor because of this. Try to kill the Tanks before they do too much
damage.

 - The turrets in this level take a little while before they shoot. Kill them
before they have a chance to strike back!

 - The Alien Queen at the top has an interesting attack. You'll see a purple
and green crosshair aimed at you every now and then, which stays in place for
a couple of seconds then vaporizes whatever was still in the crosshair. It
doesn't actually move once it's "locked on" so it's fairly easy to dodge. She's
also guarded by a couple of Forcefields that reflect projectiles, so be sure
it's off before you shoot your Shotgun or throw your bombs. There are also a
couple of Alien Lords throughout the level which shoot out purple circles, so
you can imagine that combined with the bomb-crazy tanks and the Alien Queen's
Crosshair of Doom this place is volatile as ****.

 - Behind the Alien Queen is the Plasma Cannon, which although super-rad, is
incredibly dangerous to use. It shoots out a ray that explodes with a similar
blast-radius as a bomb, and it explodes instantly on contact. It's projectile
path is also a bit wonky, so in a 1 block high corridor it's possible for it to
hit the floor or ceiling near you, killing you. *NEED TO CONFIRM*

 - The Mothership actually takes you up a floor (instead of going from 1100m to
1200m to 1300m, you go 1100m to 1200m to 1100m again). Because of this, it can
be very useful for high-score runs as you get an extra two levels to accumulate
gold, and as such the difficulty of this area is through the roof (probably
just behind Hell). If you don't care about score, go here and fill out your
Journal then never come back!

===============================================================================

   == Black Market

===============================================================================

"Welcome to the Black Market!"

   = Enemies

- Bats
- Cavemen
- Tiki Men
- Frogs
- Fire Frogs
- Mantraps
- Snails
- Monkeys
- Jiang Shi
- Vampires

   = Traps

- Spikes
- Tiki Traps

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = How to get there

You'll need to start the game from the Mines. In either 1-2, 1-3 or 1-4 you
will come across a Key and Locked Chest. Bringing one to the other will unlock
the chest and you'll gain the Udjat Eye. Reach the Jungle. In either 2-1, 2-2
or 2-3 you should notice the Udjat Eye in your inventory flashing blue and
making a sound. When it does this once you know you're in the level with the
entrance to the Black Market. The entrance will always be behind some dirt,
so you'll need at least a couple of bombs to unearth it. The faster the eye
flashes, the closer you are, so once it starts blinking rapidly, bomb near
there and you should find the door. You don't actually need the Udjat Eye to
get to the Black Market, although it makes it considerably easier.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Tips

 - The Black Market is full of shops, with a special shop in the middle-right
of the level that sells an Ankh for $50000. The Ankh will revive you with
4 hearts if you die, although you'll lose whatever you were holding.

 - There are two ways to approach the Black Market - passively or
aggressively. If you're simply going for an Ironman run (beat the game
without shortcuts) you might just want to buy the Ankh for $50000, and then
whatever else you can afford. If you want to get to Hell, or are going for
a high score, the Black Market is your friend! And by friend I mean foe. Kill
everyone and grab everything! If you're lucky you'll get an assload of bombs
and a jetpack which should easily take care of the angry shopkeepers at the
end of every level.

 - If you've already angered the shopkeepers by the time you get here, throw
a few bombs to the shops at your immediate right and get a rope to the
highest point you can. Climb the rope and hide, throwing a bomb every now and
then to get the shopkeepers to fall a level. The bottom of the level always
has a pit of spikes, with the path down being on the left so if you can lead
them all to the bottom you can hopefully make them all kill themselves. The
only exception is the Ankh shopkeeper, as he's trapped in his shop. Since he
can't get out, just lob a few bombs in there and kill him.

 - If you haven't angered them yet, I've found it's easy to steal the Ankh
then sprint up ladder in the Ankh shop, then sprint up the ladder just next
to it leading to the top floor, climbing up to the block JUST below the top
of the ladder (that pops above the floor). Usually the shopkeepers from the
top floor will either be trapped upstairs, or will fall to the floor below
without being able to hit you. With several shopkeepers in the same vicinity
they'll kill each other pretty quickly.

   == City of Gold

===============================================================================

"I finally made it!"

   = Enemies

- Cavemen
- Skeletons
- Hawk Men
- Croc Men
- Magmamen
- Scorpionflies
- Mummies

 = Mini-bosses

- Anubis II

   = Traps

- Lava
- Tiki Traps
- Arrow Traps
- Crush Traps

Secret DLC Character: Golden Monk

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = How to get there

Reach the Black Market and obtain the Ankh, either by buying it for $50000 or
stealing it. In either 3-2 or 3-3 you'll notice a big blue Moai Statue with an
Ankh symbol on its forehead. When you die anywhere in the level (you can even
fall into the abyss) you'll respawn inside the statue with 4 hearts and gain
the Hedjet (and you'll lose whatever you were holding, including a Shotgun!).
Unlike the PC version, the Ghost will still spawn if you have the Hedjet. Next,
in 4-1, you'll need to kill Anubis and obtain his Sceptre. Bring it to 4-2.
Somewhere there you'll find a gold door which only opens if you have both the
Hedjet and Sceptre (you don't need the Udjat Eye). Upon opening the door you'll
lose the Sceptre. Congrats! You've made it to the City of Gold!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Tips

 - Killing Anubis is easy if you have sticky bombs. He'll only take 2 bombs to
go down. Don't kill him above lava or near a crush trap! The Crush Trap will
destroy the Sceptre and ruin your run! And if it falls in lava you can still
bomb it out, but it's a bomb you could've saved!

 - If you have a lot of bombs, this is the place to use them. Every single
thing you blow up will turn into cold, hard cash. If you don't care about
score, it might be better to save those bombs for Olmec/Hell.

 - Be careful of traps! Since everything is gold, it's easy to mistake an arrow
trap for a normal block. Just be super watchful and don't rush it.

 - In the middle of the level will be the Book of the Dead. Picking it up will
spawn Anubis II above you, who can be dispatched in the same manner as Anubis.
Sticky bombs rule!

===============================================================================

   == Hell

===============================================================================

"A horrible feeling of nausea comes over you!"

   = Enemies

- Bats
- Vampires
- Imps
- Devils
- Succubi

 = Mini-bosses

- Vlad
- Ox Face
- Horse Head
- King Yama

   = Traps

- Lava
- Spike Balls
- Spikes

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = How to get there

Reach the City of Gold. Somewhere in the middle will be the Book of the Dead,
and it will always be entombed (i.e. you need to bomb your way inside). Upon
picking the book up, Anubis II will spawn above you. He follows you much more
aggressively and summons red skeletons (no new Journal entry). You don't
actually NEED to kill him, although he will follow you through the levels,
including into Hell. He is easily taken care of with sticky bombs. With the
Book of the Dead in hand, exit the City of Gold, which will take you straight
to Olmec. Watch the book in your inventory, it should writhe a bit, writhing
more violently at certain points. At its most aggressive is the horizontal
location of the entrance to Hell. What you need to do now is have Olmec die
somewhere near this point, which is easiest achieved by bombing a hole where
you need it. Lure Olmec into the hole and jump on his head. You MUST use his
head as a ledge to get into the door to Hell, otherwise you will fall straight
into the lava below. Be aware of the Magma Men jumping around as they CAN hit
you while you're standing on Olmec's head! Just keep mashing that RB button
until you get in.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Gold Idol Trap

Upon picking up the Idol a cluster of Spike Ball Traps will spawn around you.
Bringing the Idol to the exit will net you $25000, not too shabby but I don't
think it's worth the risk if you're in Hell!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Tips

 - Bring bombs. A LOT. At one point I saw about 6 spinning spiked balls
in a single screen - bombs will help avoid them. Just be careful because
bombing them causes the spiked ball to fly off and destroy a decent amount of
terrain before coming to a stop. Whenever you place a bomb on a spiked ball
trap, get a lot of distance between you and it!

 - In 5-1 there will always be a tower on either the very right or left of the
screen. At the top will be Vlad, who is basically a stronger version of
Vampires (and looks like Bram Stoker's Dracula). He drops Vlad's Cape when you
kill him which, in my opinion, is worse than both the Jetpack AND the normal
Cape! It's like a normal Cape but you double jump (flap the wings) before you
start gliding, which is very awkward for someone who is already used to using
a normal Cape. There will also be a shiny red and gold thing (Vlad's Amulet)
in a wall near Vlad. Bomb it out as holding it protects you from fire (this
includes lava and Magma Men - very useful against the final boss!)

 - Watch out for Succubi! They imitate damsels (all 3 kinds) and charge at you
when you get close. You can tell which damsel is fake by looking at it while
you hear it cry "help" - if the mouth doesn't move, it's fake. Even so, since
there are traps EVERYWHERE, it's a good idea to avoid damsels at all costs!
Getting pushed into lava/spikes/tiki traps is no fun.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = How to beat King Yama

When you reach 5-4 you'll be at the final boss! This is getting intense!
As soon as you arrive, he'll summon two mini-bosses for you to fight -
Horse Head and Ox Face. They only take a couple of Shotgun blasts or 2
bombs each to die. They also throw bombs at you so kill them quick. They
drop 12 bombs each which can be useful for both killing King Yama, and
destroying his throne of rubies!

Be careful whenever you're near the top of the stage! He'll bash the
ground with his fists and skulls will fall from the ceiling, stunning
you. If you have cover, you're safe. It's actually possible to shoot
your Shotgun from the side of the map and, due to its spread, you
can hit King Yama from safety! Otherwise, you can throw sticky bombs
at his head.

After a bit of damage, King Yama's head will detach from his body and
he'll spit Magma Men everywhere (trivial if you have Vlad's Amulet).
Skulls will still fall from the ceiling despite him not using his fists!
Just Shotgun/sticky bomb him from afar and after a little bit he'll go
down.

You beat the game "the hard way"! Congrats! Not a whole lot of people can!
Beating Hell unlocks Yang and gives you a $100000 boost to your score.
The entrance to the Mines will now also have a ruby in the top-middle, to
indicate how much you rule.

   == Unlockable Characters

===============================================================================

The Miner Girl (Yellow), Pirate Girl (Purple), Mariachi Man (Green) and Bear
Suit Man (Blue) all randomly appear in coffins throughout the 4 main areas.
They are limited to ONE per area and they are RANDOM i.e. if you find the Miner
Girl (Yellow) in the Jungle, you can no longer find a coffin in the Jungle.

Also, the Explorers DLC added 8 new characters in the XBLA version. These
characters come included in the PC version, however they must be found in
coffins in the "event" levels before they can be used.

   == Miscellaneous Secrets

===============================================================================

   = Crystal Monkey

To summon a Crystal Monkey, you need to place a Crystal Skull on an Altar. This
is a very rare occurrence and I honestly don't see it ever happening on any
casual run. You first need to be in a "restless dead" level. The level must
also generate a Crystal Skull AND an Altar. I managed to get this to happen
only 2 times in roughly 200 restarts in the Jungle.

The Crystal Monkey seems to function exactly the same as the Golden Monkey. The
only difference is that it has white fur and darker skin. *NEED TO CONFIRM*

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Secret Music

In every main area of the game (not sure if this includes Hell), there is a
very small chance that the regular rotation of music for the area will be
replaced with a chip-tuney, retro track.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = The Eggplant

If you place a Mystery Box (the shopkeeper sells them and they contain a random
item) on an altar, it will transform into an eggplant and the music will change
to a weird, upbeat chiptune track. One very interesting point to note about the
eggplant is that it can be taken to the next level, unlike things like Mystery
Boxes and Golden/Crystal Monkeys. It is unknown at this point whether the
eggplant is used for anything other than just a music easter egg, however an
eggplant monster is in the image file system which as of yet has never been
seen in-game. Its only animation is that of a grimace, which suggests it may
be a boss of some sort (as both Olmec and Yama have very limited animation).

So far, these have been attempted with nothing happening:
 - Sacrificing the eggplant
 - Selling the eggplant
 - Ghostrunning the eggplant
 - Feeding the eggplant to a Mantrap
 - Feeding the eggplant to the Worm
 - Dropping the eggplant in water
 - Dropping the eggplant in acid
 - Dropping the eggplant in a cooking pot

These are yet to be done, by me or anyone else to my knowledge:
 - Beating the game holding the eggplant
 - Bringing the eggplant to Hell (Co-op only)
 - Dropping the eggplant in lava/Olmec's lava/Yama's lava

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Classic Spelunky Easter Egg

This is found in the tutorial. In the third portion of the tutorial you'll
eventually come across a shop. If you bomb the block 6 blocks below the
shopkeeper (you can either bomb from the top and anger the shopkeeper, or from
below near the damsel) you'll see a sprite of the Spelunker from the old PC
version.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Coloured Torches

Pressing RB or LB on the character select screen cycles the colour of the torch
between red, blue, yellow and green. I don't know if this does anything at all,
and since I don't play any co-op I'm not sure if it's just something to do with
that.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Stun the Ghost

Using a Camera on a Ghost makes it stay still and pose (with lipstick!) for a
second. Weird! But also good for Ghostrunning. :)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Post-Completion Player Stats Screen

Usually the Player Stats screen on the main menu will give some detail of your
last death. If you check it just after beating the game your cause of death
will instead be "Old age" and instead of a picture of the area you died in,
there'll be a picture of a camel in the desert. If you beat Hell and do the
same thing, the picture will be at night.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Scratched up Mines Entrance

The first time you play the game, the entrance to the Mines seems untouched.
After a few deaths, scratch marks (tally marks) and beer bottles appear, with
more appearing at a higher death count. The changes stop at a relatively
low death count though (300ish?). This reinforces the fact that you always
revive after you die! What a hellish experience for our poor spelunker.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Journal Non-entries

These are basically things in the game that, for whatever reason, don't have
a proper Journal entry.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry X1    - Skeleton Piranha
Location    - Jungle ("restless dead" event)
Notes       - When a "restless dead" event occurs, all Piranhas in the level
              are replaced by Skeleton Piranhas.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry X2    - Red Skeleton
Location - Summoned by Anubis II

Notes - Anubis II spawns these guys pretty heavily, to the point where
              it's not uncommon to have 12+ on the screen at any moment. They
              function the same as a regular Skeleton and die in one hit. They
              will also (harmlessly) explode after a short amount of time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry X3    - Crystal Monkey
Location    - Place a Crystal Skull on an altar
Notes       - See above (top of Miscellaneous Secrets).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry X4    - Eggplant
Location - Place a Mystery Box on an altar

Notes - See above (third Miscellaneous Secret).

   = Pop Culture References

   = Indiana Jones

 - The main character's outfit and the fact he uses a whip as a weapon.
 - "I hear snakes. I hate snakes!" event references Indy's fear of snakes.
 - The Golden Idol (Raiders) and Crystal Skull (the terrible 4th movie).

   = Evil Dead

 - During a "restless dead" event, there will be a grave marked "ASH" with a
Shotgun below it. This is a reference to the main character's name and the fact
he has a shotgun for an arm.
 - The Book of the Dead looks like the Necronomicon in the Evil Dead series.

   = Independence Day

 - "It feels like the Fourth of July..." event, has the entrance to the
Mothership. For those unfamiliar with holidays in the USA, July 4 is
Independence Day!

   = Bram Stoker's Dracula

 - Vlad, the super-vampire in Hell, wears a red robe and has a ridiculous
hairstyle very reminiscent of Bram Stoker's Dracula (the movie).

   = La-Mulana

 - Horse Head and Ox Face are an homage to a boss battle in La-Mulana, and
in fact there is a tablet in that game that reads "The gatekeepers of Hell,
Ox-head and Horse-face". Note the not-so-subtle swap-around!. Derek Yu, the
developer of Spelunky, has cited the original La-Mulana as inspiration.

   = Dune

 - The Crysknife (and the Worm for that matter) is a direct reference to a
sacred weapon in Frank Herbert's "Dune", which is made from the crystal tooth
of a giant sandworm.
(thanks deitatspiritus!)

   = Monty Python and the Holy Grail

 - The Black Knight is a reference to the black knight from Monty Python and
the Holy Grail. This is alluded to in his description "The lord of the castle.
He fights with supreme confidence and won't give up until death." In the movie,
the black knight pesters Arthur about continuing to fight, despite having both
arms and legs chopped off.

Description - A flying insect made of pure gold that's worshipped in some
              cultures.

Notes - These guys are worth a lot of money! A nice trade-off for having
              to deal with dark levels
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 14    - Tiki Man
Location    - Jungle
Drops       - Boomerang
Description - Just your average masked cannibal wielding a giant boomerang.
Notes       - Throws his boomerang as soon as you're in his line of sight. He
              can get you in a stun lock if you're attacked up against a wall.
              Try to jump on them to make them drop their boomerang, then pick
              up the boomerang and use it against them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 15    - Frog
Location    - Jungle
Description - A large cave frog... or is it a toad? Whatever.

Notes - Jumps in an irregular pattern.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 16    - Fire Frog
Description - A rare species of frog that's filled with explosive swamp gas.
Notes       - Same as the Frog except explodes after a few seconds when hit.
              This can be used to your advantage, as they're basically a free
              bomb. If they jump in water they'll turn into normals Frogs.
Entry 17    - Giant Frog
Location    - Jungle
Drops       - Spring Shoes (sometimes)
Description - This extra-large amphibian carries its children inside of its
              mouth.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 18    - Mantrap
Location    - Jungle
Description - Carnivorous plants with a taste for human flesh.

Notes - Eat you (OHKO) whenever you walk into them. Unlike the PC version
              they'll still kill you if you jump on them with Spike Shoes.
              Either throw something at them or whip them to stun them, then
              run past.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 19    - Piranha
Location    - Jungle
Description - A group of these can skeletonize a cow in two minutes.
Notes       - Go straight for you when you land in a body of water that they're
              in. Easy alone, can be a pain if there's several. If you bomb the
              bottom of the lake they're in, the water drains and kills all the
              piranhas.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 20    - Ol' Bitey
Location - Jungle ("I hear rushing water!" event)
Drops       - Gems
Description - This legendary fish has claimed the lives of many adventurers.

Notes - Does 2 damage per hit. This guy is really tough, especially when
              he has piranhas all around him. I'd only ever take him on with
              plenty of sticky bombs or a shotgun.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 21    - Killer Bee
Location    - Jungle
Description - A bee with a harpoon-sized stinger. It's very protective of its
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 22    - Queen Bee
Location    - Jungle
Drops       - Royal Jelly
Description - Bee royalty. She might have some delicious royal jelly stuck to
              her abdomen.

Notes - Royal Jelly gives you 4 hearts, so if you have Spike Shoes or a
              Shotgun, definitely try and kill her. Since she's so big she
              can't go through any holes one hole wide, so if you see one lead
              her to it and stomp her/shoot her and get her sweet sweet jelly.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 23    - Snail
Location    - Jungle
Description - A slimy mollusk that blows acidic spit bubbles when it's
              agitated.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 24    - Monkey
Location    - Jungle
Description - Its pranks are the leading cause of injury to unwary jungle
              explorers.

Notes - Very annoying. They'll jump at you and either steal an item
              which drops on the ground (if it's a bomb it'll detonate after a
              few seconds) or stun you for a VERY long time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Description - A friendly but elusive primate that enjoys striking off on an
              adventure.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 27    - Green Knight
Location    - Haunted Castle
Description - Who or what is inside this haunted suit of armor?

Notes - Cannot be damaged by the whipe or jumping on them without Spike
              Shoes. Throw something at them (rocks work well). When you break
              the armor there'll be a Caveman underneath.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 28    - Black Knight
Location    - Haunted Castle
Description - The lord of the castle. He fights with supreme confidence and
              won't give up until death.
Notes       - He moves very, very fast and his Shield protects against
              projectiles (including Shotgun pellets!). His shield can easily
              crush you against a wall too. Throw something at him, like a
              corpse, to get him to drop his Shield, at which point he should
              be easy to take care of.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 29    - Vampire
Location - Jungle ("The dead are restless..." event), Haunted Castle, Hell
Drops       - Cape (always)
Description - An undead bloodsucker with superhuman strength. He can change
              into a bat.

Notes - He has a lot of health, so it's not recommended to whip him for
              ages. Kind of like a super-bat, he'll hang from a ceiling and
              attack you when you're in sight. Transforms between bat and
              human form. The easiest way to kill him is to stun him then throw
              him into Spikes or Tiki Traps. If you don't have a Cape, get his!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 30    - Ghost
Location    - Everywhere
              from?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 31    - Bacterium
Location    - Worm
Description - A dangerous single-celled organism that feeds on decaying matter.

Notes - Moves in circles around whatever landmass they're on. They have
              a lot of health so don't bother standing there whipping it. If
              you have the Crysknife, it'll die in one hit (as will all other
              monsters!).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 32    - Worm Egg
Location    - Worm
Description - It's filled with worm babies. Gross!
Notes       - Jump on it before it bursts with Worm Babies!
Entry 34    - Yeti
Location    - Ice Caves
Description - A playful creature that unfortunately doesn't know its own
              strength.
Notes       - Walks back and forth. If you touch it he'll throw you way across
              the map, which can be devastating in the Ice Caves. He's also
              immune to the whip, so jump on him then throw his stunned body
              into the abyss.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 35    - Yeti King
Location - Ice Caves ("It smells like wet fur in here" event)
Drops - Spike Shoes, Compass (sometimes)
Description - The king of the yetis is whichever yeti is the biggest.

Notes - Makes icicles fall from the ceiling. Avoid if you don't have

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 36    - Mammoth
Location    - Ice Caves
Drops       - Freeze Ray (sometimes)
Description - This furry animal was thought to be extinct. Its breath is like
              a blizzard!
Notes       - Shoots a freeze ray in front of it. Easy to kill with Spike Shoes
              otherwise avoid.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 37    - Alien
Location    - Ice Caves
Description - Invaders from space... what are they doing down here?

Notes - Very easy when out of its UFO, just jump on them or whip them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 38    - UFO
Location    - Ice Caves
Description - A flying saucer powered by mysterious alien technology.
Notes       - When you hit a UFO, it'll go flying in the direction you hit it
              then explodes when it touches something. Be careful.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 39    - Alien Tank
Location    - Mothership
Description - The survival rate of tank drivers is an an all-time low.

Notes - They'll shoot bombs like crazy when they see you. Kill them quick
              before they blow the whole level to pieces.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 40    - Alien Lord
Location    - Ice Caves ("I sense a psychic presence." event), Mothership
Description - A powerful psychic creature that commands a large spacecraft.
Notes       - Their psychic blasts move quite fast, so kill them from a
              distance. Sticky bombs and a Pitcher's Mitt make this easy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 41    - Alien Queen
Location    - Mothership
Description - The mastermind of the alien invasion. She has incredible psychic
              powers.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 42    - Hawk Man
Location    - Temple
Description - A dangerous leader of the Olmec cult. He's always looking for
              people to sacrifice.
Notes       - Jumps around like a maniac when they spot you. Kill them early
              as they can often be a pain.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 43    - Croc Man
Location    - Temple
Description - This elite temple guard has magical powers that make him very
              tough to kill.

Notes - Teleports randomly when they see you or when you hit them. They
              can teleport into you killing you instantly which SUCKS, so if
              you can just avoid them entirely.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 44    - Magma Man
Location    - Temple, Hell
Description - An elemental of fire that has fashioned a body out of lava.
Notes       - Lava pits spit these guys out occasionally. If you have Vlad's
              Amulet they do no damage. Can't be killed with the whip,
              Shotgun or jumping on them. Freeze Ray works well.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 45    - Scorpion Fly
Location    - Temple
Description - It's as dangerous on the ground as it is in the air.

Notes - Flies around and goes straight for you like a bat. Hitting them
              once makes them lose their wings, at which point they'll act like
              a normal Scorpion.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 46    - Mummy
Location    - Temple
Drops       - 2 Rubies
Description - Cursed tomb lords with a very old grudge to bear.
Notes       - Shoots locusts at you when you're moderately close. Avoid! Only
              kill them from afar, or jump on them if you have Spike Shoes. If
              there's a Tiki Trap nearby, lead him into it and it'll kill him
              for you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 47    - Anubis
Location    - Temple (4-1 only)
Drops       - Sceptre (always)
Description - A jackal-headed god who rules over the world of the dead.

Notes - Shoots slow moving purple rings of death. Avoid him unless you
              want his Sceptre for the City of Gold. If you have sticky bombs
              he'll only take 2 of them before going down. Just don't kill him
              above lava or near a Crush Trap or you may lose the Sceptre! Note
              you can still bomb the Sceptre out of the lava, but a Crush Trap
              will destroy it for good.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 48    - Anubis II
Location    - City of Gold
Description - The second incarnation of Anubis. He'll do anything to protect
              the treasures of the underworld.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Description - The dark prince of vampires. His tower stands guard at the
              entrance of Hell.

Notes - He's pretty much a super-vampire, and moves very fast. If you
              have sticky bombs or a Shotgun he's pretty easy, otherwise treat
              him like a Vampire - stun him then throw him into a deadly trap!
              There will be Vlad's Amulet nearby, so bomb it out and get it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 51    - Imp
Location    - Hell
Description - A lowly servant of the underworld. Its job is to refill the lava
              pits.
Notes       - Flies back and forth holding a pot full of lava. If you are
              underneath him he'll drop the lava (which will turn into a Magma
              Man). If you have Vlad's Amulet they can't damage you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 52    - Devil
Location    - Hell
Description - Blue devils that escort lost souls to King Yama's courtroom.

Notes - These guys have horns so you can't jump on them to damage them,
              even with Spike Shoes. When they see you they'll charge SUPER
              fast at you, which can knock you back a large distance. Get
              behind them and whip them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 53    - Succubus
Location    - Hell
Description - A mistress of Vlad. She seduces men and women alike in the
              service of her master.
Notes       - They imitate damsels (all 3 kinds) and charge at you when you get
              close. You can tell which one is a Succubi by looking at its
              mouth while you hear the damsel say "help!". If the mouth doesn't
              move, it's a fake. Even so, since there are traps EVERYWHERE,
              it's a good idea to avoid damsels at all costs! Getting pushed
              into lava/spikes/tiki traps is no fun.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 54    - Horse Head
Location    - Hell (5-4 only)
Drops       - Bomb Box
Description - King Yama's right-hand man. He has the head of a horse.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 55    - Ox Face
Location    - Hell (5-4 only)
Drops       - Bomb Box
Description - King Yama's left-hand man. He has the face of an ox.
Notes       - Shoot him twice with a Shotgun or throw a couple of sticky bombs
              at him and he'll go down. They'll throw bombs at you, but if you
              have a Shotgun they should die before they even get the chance.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 56    - King Yama
Location    - Hell (5-4 only)

              throne.

              slippery of walls.

Price       - $4000

              anything

Notes - Makes your bombs sticky! Very, very, VERY useful against mini-

Location    - Yeti King (sometimes)

              the snake pit
Description - A sharp tool that's great for digging, but the craftsmanship is
              shoddy.

Notes - Mines one block at a time. If you mine enough times the handle
              will eventually break (you can pick the head up and use it like
              a rock). If you take it to the exit, it's "health" will
              regenerate so try not to mine too much in one level.
              UPDATE: The Mattock glitch has been fixed and no longer becomes
              invincible upon taking it to a new level.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 12    - Boomerang
Price       - $7000
Notes       - You throw it, it comes back. If there's a wall in the way on its
              way back it won't get to you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 13    - Machete
Price       - $7000
Description - It slices, it dices, it cuts through monsters like stale bread!

Notes - Can cut spiderwebs, and can kill the Shopkeeper easily. Otherwise
              I wouldn't waste my hands carrying one around.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 14    - Crysknife
Price       - $0
Location    - Worm, inside a large acid pit, roughly middle-end of the
              stage. You can bomb the bottom to empty the acid.
Description - A razor-sharp blade fashioned from the tooth of a worm. It
              replaces your whip.
Notes       - One-hit kills everything (they basically explode into blood and
              guts).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 15    - Web Gun
Price       - $2000
Description - A gun that shoots sticky spider webs.

Notes       - Pretty much useless.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 16    - Shotgun
Price       - $15000
Location    - Shopkeepers, Jungle "The dead are restless." event - bomb the
              square directly below a gravestone marked "Ash".
Description - Your typical 12-gauge shotgun.
Notes       - An awesome weapon, and combined with the Jetpack, make you a
              force to be reckoned with. Shoots 8 pellets that do a LOT of
              damage each. Watch out for its kickback! If you hold forward
              while you shoot you'll mitigate the kickback somewhat.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 17    - Freeze Ray
Price       - $12000
Location    - Mammoth (sometimes)
Description - A blast from this will freeze anything completely solid.

Notes - Frozen enemies will unfreeze after a while, so either whip the
              ice block or jump on it to kill them. If you freeze an enemy that
              flies or clings to a ceiling, they'll drop and the impact on the
              ground will kill them instantly. Good against mini-bosses.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 18    - Plasma Cannon
Price       - $0
Location    - Mothership, behind the Alien Queen
Description - The height of alien weapon design. This thing packs a punch!
Notes       - Very powerful and very unwieldly. Shoots plasma rays that explode
              with a blast radius of a bomb. The rays come out in a weird wavy
              pattern which MAY blow up the ceiling/floor in front of you. If
              you find one of these in a crate in the City of Gold, you are the
              luckiest person alive.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 19    - Camera
Price       - $10000
Description - The most expensive camera on the market. Say cheese!

Notes - Stuns enemies. The stun-time usually only lasts for a second. It
              kills bats instantly. I'd only ever use it for Ghostrunning (it
              stuns the Ghost too)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 20    - Teleporter
Price       - $10000
Description - A piece of futuristic technology! But it hasn't been perfected
              yet...
Notes       - You can teleport into walls which kill you instantly so watch
              out! It's good for Speedrunning, but otherwise it's too risky.
              You can teleport down by jumping then quickly pressing down+X.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 21    - Parachute
Price       - $2000
Description - It will deploy automatically as you're falling.

Notes - Prevents you from taking fall damage.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 22    - Cape
Price       - $12000
Location    - Vampire (always)
Description - It looks dashing and also lets you float in the air.
Notes       - Very useful. If you press A while in the air, you'll start
              floating.  A good alternative to the Jetpack is having one of
              these and Climbing Gloves. Allows you to float on to spikes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 23    - Jetpack
Price       - $20000
Location - Ice Caves "I sense a psychic presence here." event, bomb the wall
              behind the Alien Lord
Description - The coolest way to travel. The fuel replenishes while you're on
              the ground.

Notes - My favorite item, and arguably the best item in the game.
              Traversing levels becomes trivial (good for collecting gold,
              getting monsters/Damsels to the Altar, juggling items etc). If
              you see one, buy it, steal it - whatever. This thing rules.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 24    - Shield
Price       - $0
Location    - Black Knight (Haunted Castle)
Description - The ultimate in protective armor! Even a cannonball couldn't get
              through this.
Notes       - Crushes enemies AND money by pushing them up against a wall. Very
              good against Shopkeepers as their Shotgun pellets will be
              reflected against them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 25    - Royal Jelly
Price       - $0
Location    - Queen Bee
Description - A delicious nectar that's made by bees. Highly valued by
              gourmands everywhere.

Notes - Increases hearts by 4.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 26    - Idol
Price       - $5000
Description - A golden statue guarded by deadly traps. Bring it to the exit for
              a big reward!
Notes       - Picking one up sets off a trap. See Gameplay and Areas sections
              for details on Idol value/traps.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 27    - Kapala
Price       - $0
Location - Sacrifice 2 damsels (or equivalent) to Kali
Description - A cup made from a human skull. It's used in bloody rituals.

Notes - Collects blood to restore health. Every 8 drops of blood equals
              one heart so you can imagine this thing is INCREDIBLY useful.
              Monsters with more than 1 health can be whipped multiple times
              to gain more blood (including damsels!).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 28    - Udjat Eye
Price       - $0
Location    - Mines (1-2, 1-3 or 1-4)
Description - The Eye is an ancient symbol of royal power. Does it have any
              other purpose?
Notes       - Functions like a Spectacles, and also signals the location of
              the Black Market. See Secrets (Black Market) for more info.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 29    - Ankh
Price       - $0
Location    - Black Market
Description - A magical artifact that symbolizes eternal life.

Notes - Revives the player at the entrance with 4 health if they die.
              Note you'll lose whatever you were holding. Also used to get into
              the City of Gold (see Secrets for more info).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 30    - Hedjet
Price       - $0
Location    - Ice Caves
Description - The white crown of pharaohs. It grants its wearer access to
              secret areas.
Notes       - Has no function other than getting into the City of Gold (see
              Secrets for more info).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 31    - Sceptre
Price       - $0
Location    - Anubis
Description - The person who wields the staff of Anubis has control over life
              and death.

Notes - Be careful with this thing! It shoots out purple circles of death
              in front of you, which hover for a second then home in on the
              nearest creature (dead or alive). If you shoot it while that
              "something closest to you" is behind you, it'll pass through you
              killing you instantly. Also used to get into the City of Gold.
              (see Secrets for more info)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 32    - Book of the Dead
Price       - $0
Location    - City of Gold
Description - Guarded by Anubis II in the City of Gold. It opens the entrance
              to the underworld.
Notes       - Always found in the middle of the City of Gold. Upon picking it
              up Anubis II will spawn above you. This is used to enter Hell
              (see Secrets - Hell for more info).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 33    - Vlad's Cape
Price       - $0
Location    - Vlad
Description - The bloody cape of Vlad the Impaler. It's even more dashing than
              regular capes.

Notes - You can double jump before you glide. In my opinion not as good
              as the Jetpack OR regular Cape as the double jumping can throw
              you off (especially if you just want to glide down).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 34    - Vlad's Amulet
Price       - $0
Location    - Bomb a wall near Vlad
Description - A magical amulet that protects its owner from fire.
Notes       - You no longer take damage from lava or Magma Men. Very useful in
              Hell, especially against the last boss.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

===============================================================================

   = Traps

===============================================================================

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 01    - Spikes
Location    - Everywhere
Description - These protrusions will leave a big hole in anyone unlucky enough
              to fall in them.
Notes       - You can walk across them, but falling on top of them kills you
              instantly.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 02    - Arrow Trap
Location - Mines, Temple, City of Gold
Description - A basic trap. It fires an arrow when something moves in front of
              it.

Notes - Throw something in front of it to trigger it. You can throw the
              little creatures in a level (rat, frog, penguin, cricket) at it
              to trigger it too. If you don't have anything nearby and don't
              want to use a rope/bomb, you can hit the arrow with your whip
              if there are at least 2 blocks seperating you and the trap.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 03    - Powder Box
Location    - Mines
Description - It's filled with black powder. Handle with care!
Notes       - Explodes when hit with something (including blood).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 04    - Boulder
Location - Mines (spawns after taking the Idol)
Description - An elaborate trap used to punish thieves.

Notes - Crushes everything in its path. If it stops in front of the exit
              you can use a bomb to get it moving again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 05    - Tiki Trap
Location    - Jungle, Temple, Hell
Description - Sharp spikes on either side skewer anything that gets too close.
Notes       - Tease out the spikes and jump over it while the spikes sink
              back into the base.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 06    - Acid
Location    - Worm
Description - Caustic stomach acid that slowly burns away the flesh. Beware of
              the bubbles!

Notes - Does 1 damage every few seconds. Like water you can bomb the
              base to drain it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 07    - Spring
Location    - Ice Caves
Description - An alien contraption that's used for transportation and
              entertainment.
Notes       - Makes you jump super high when you walk over it. If you drop a
              hard item on it (like a rock or KEY) it can get you in a stun
              lock, and kill you quickly.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 08    - Mine
Location    - Ice Caves
Description - A proximity-triggered explosive device. Disarm it quickly!

Notes - Blows up after a second when you walk over it. It can also be
              disarmed by picking it up, and it will rearm when you put it back
              down. Can be used like a bomb.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 09    - Turret
Location    - Ice Caves, Mothership
Description - It's part of the standard spaceship defense system.
Notes       - Aims at you and shoots after a few seconds. Just stay on the move
              and it shouldn't hit you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 10    - Forcefield
Location    - Ice Caves, Mothership
Description - A powerful laser barrier that can even deflect plasma blasts.

Notes - Reflects projectiles (including items like bombs). Blow the base
              up to disable the Forcefield.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 11    - Crush Trap
Location    - Temple, City of Gold
Description - This heavy stone block is imbued with the spirit of the pharaoh's
              palace guard.
Notes       - Moves like a rook in chess. Don't get caught between it and a
              wall, ever. If you need to, bomb it or bomb around it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 12    - Ceiling Trap
Location - Temple (spawns after taking the idol)
Description - When the ceiling starts dropping, you'd better start hopping!

Notes - Bomb the side of the trap-site before picking up the Idol.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 13    - Spike Ball
Location    - Hell
Description - A deadly ball and chain that swings with infernal determination.
Notes       - They spin around at different speeds. Bombing the base will make
              the Spike Ball fly off and crush terrain before coming to a stop.
              It's a good idea to place a bomb then RUN, because the Spike
              Ball may head straight for you. You can also push the base like
              any stone block.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entry 14    - Lava
Location    - Temple, Hell
Description - Molten rock that flows deep underground. The heat can melt
              almost anything!

Notes - Kills you instantly, unless you have Vlad's Amulet. Bombs
              detonate as soon as they touch lava. If you bomb the base, the
              lava will empty. Throwing a rope which touches the lava will make
              the rope burn.

===============================================================================

   ===   Title Update [##UPD00]

===============================================================================
===============================================================================

Effective December 21st 2012

   = GAMEPLAY CHANGES:

- Significant price changes to shop items (mostly reductions for weaker items).

- Flip-hanging a one-tile wide pit while carrying an item will not cause the
  item to hit you anymore.

- Critters now have lowest item pick up priority. (You will always pick up
  items that are in front first.)

- Items now take player velocity into account when determining whether to do
  damage from velocity.

- Tiki men in dark levels now carry torches instead of boomerangs.

- Caveman villages cannot spawn in dark levels any more.

- Sceptre would kill you if you had it pressed up against a wall.

- Sceptre will not target harmless critters anymore.

- Hired hands were grabbing items for sale.

- Spectacles are now much less useless.

- Plasma Cannon shoots straighter.

- Magma men will now ignite bombs and light torches.

   = BIG BUGS:

- A small number of players were experiencing a lock at the initial loading
  screen, but only when connected to LIVE. We were not able to reproduce this,
  but tried to fix it anyway.

- Letting the timer go too high would cause the game to crash when you exited
  the level.

- Multiplayer: if a player died while another player was exiting the level, the
  game would crash.

- Crash when getting eaten by worm and killed by ghost at the same time.

- Crash when crushed in tutorial level.

- Crash when destroying [SECRET]'s hands.

- It was possible (although unlikely) that no graves would get generated in the
  Cemetary, crashing the game.

- Mattock would reset to 100 uses upon entering a new level.

- Anubis would become invincible if he touched lava.

- "Eternal Life" achievement was sometimes not triggering correctly. We were
  not able to reproduce this, but tried to fix it anyway.

- "Big Money" achievement would not unlock if winning game pushed you over the
  mark.

- Monkeys sometimes not appearing in journal. We were not able to reproduce
  this, but tried to fix it anyway.

- Arcade sticks and pads are now working properly.

   = MEDIUM BUGS:

- Beating a level quickly would not prevent the next level from being dark.

- Monkeys could toss you onto a ledge, causing you to hang indefinitely.

- Croc men could telefrag you while you're walking into the exit.

- Killing the Black Knight would anger shopkeepers.

- Cobra spit was angering shopkeepers.

- Getting eaten or crushed while wearing a cape or jetpack would cause the
  item to disappear, but only for that level.

- Journal items were not unlocking right when you stole them.

- The slight pause while loading music at the beginning of a level is now gone.

- Lava kills not counting in journal.

- Game would prompt you to connect to LIVE every time you died if you weren't
  connected.

- Multiplayer: blowing up a player's coffin would cause hired hands to appear
  in subsequent coffins.

- Multiplayer: opening enough coffins would cause hired hands to appear in
  subsequent coffins. We were not able to reproduce this, but tried to fix it
  anyway.

- Multiplayer: game timer was still running while the Xbox guide was up.

- Multiplayer: Players could keep for sale items as long as another player
  exited the level.

- Deathmatch Arena Select titles were being unlocked before the arenas
  themselves.

   = LIL' BUGS:

- Pitcher's mitt sometimes wouldn't throw straight.

- Shopkeeper waiting at exit would curse you when struck by a tiki trap
  (annoying).

- Shopkeepers hit by cobra spit could be picked up.

- Items stuck to sticky objects weren't losing their velocity.

- Ghost would occasionally zoom up and quickly kill you a second time after you
  respawned with the ankh.

- Hired hands that fell onto a spring while stunned would cause the spring to
  flip out.

- Pushing spinner spider with push block would cause it to float in mid-air.

- Tossing punishment ball onto something sticky would cause weird behavior.

- "Ending Adventure" while walking into exit would cause bags to pour out of
  you.

- "Talk to Tunnel Man" button prompt was not displaying the correct button
  after player changes his or her controls.

- "Ending Adventure" will now start you at the tutorial door if you've already
  beaten it.

- Destroying a lake tile with a tiki trap on top of it wouldn't destroy the
  tiki trap also.

- Gems were generating on top of other items and in push blocks.

- Diamonds were appearing in Loot Count as small rubies.

- If error message popped up while a level feeling or similar notice was being
  displayed, the notice bar would remain after dismissing the error pop up.

- Freeze another player and pick them up while frozen: player would remain in
  same spot until unfrozen and then "teleport" back into your hands.

- Start a multiplayer game before the tutorial is beaten: players would have
  bright lights around them.

- Held players were immune to explosions.

- Ice Caves background turned black when player fell off the bottom of the
  screen.

- Loading/saving icons did not respect brightness setting (they were quite
  rude).

- Multiplayer: Anubis II was appearing when [SECRET] was picked up a second
  time.

- Go back to Deathmatch Arena Select screen from Character Select screen: map
  always shows the first map regardless of what you selected.

- Deathmatch: Vine tiles were not previewing correctly on the Arena Select.

- Deathmatch: Colors of preview maps more obviously different.

   ===   DLC [##DLC00]

===============================================================================
===============================================================================

As of writing there are 2 DLC packs available for Spelunky: The Arenas DLC and
Explorers DLC. Arenas adds 24 multiplayer levels (which I never play so I can't
comment on it) and the Explorers adds 8 new playable characters. Not a lot, but
if you want to support the developers (which you do!) I very much encourage you
to buy them!

===============================================================================

   ===   Frequently Asked Questions [##FAQ00]

===============================================================================
===============================================================================

   = Q) How do you save in this game? I keep restarting at the beginning!

   - A) There is no traditional saving in this game - your Journal entries are
saved as are the number of times you've died. When you die, you're supposed to
start at the beginning, which is a defining characteristic of a rogue-like
game. Spelunky does offer shortcuts to different areas, but you have to earn
them first. See the Gameplay section for more details.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Q) Where can I find a Shotgun?

   - A) There are a few places: you can buy one from a shop, you can kill a
shopkeeper and take his, or you can find one by bombing below an ASH grave
in a "restless dead" level (see Areas - Jungle for more info).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Q) I have to take the Mine Key all the way to the end of the Ice Caves to
        unlock the Temple shortcut?!

   - A) Yes! It's one of the bigger hurdles in the game, but the main trick
(as with all of Spelunky) is to be methodical about things. Collect all the
money you can and spend it on good passive items like the Compass, Cape or
Climbing Gloves. Don't take unnecessary risks. A good tip is to have a lot of
bombs by the time you reach the Jungle - that way you can bomb your way down
to the exit, or eliminate some of the trickier-to-get-past tiki traps. Also
try to have a Cape or Climbing Gloves by the time you get to the Ice Caves -
they'll help a ton! Check out the General Tips, Advanced Tips and Areas
sections for a LOT more info!

   = Q) How do you get to the City of Gold/Hell?

   - A) Start from the beginning of the game.

 - In the Mines (1-2, 1-3 or 1-4), find the Key and Chest - bring one to the
other to get the Udjat Eye.

 - In the Jungle (2-1, 2-2 or 2-3), do a bit of exploring until you notice the
Udjat Eye flashing. Bomb the area where it's flashing the fastest (you may need
2+ bombs) to unlock the entrance to the Black Market. Here, buy the Ankh for
$50000 or steal it from the shop at the very right.

 - In the Ice Caves (3-2 or 3-3), die anywhere in the level with a big blue
Moai statue with an ankh symbol on its forehead. You'll revive inside it and
get the Hedjet, but you'll lose whatever item you were holding (like a Shotgun)
If you died once before this and already used up the Ankh, you'll need to start
over.

 - In the Temple in 4-1, find and kill Anubis (easy to do with sticky bombs).
Pick up his Sceptre. Try not to kill him near lava or a Crush Trap as they can
destroy the Sceptre. Also avoid using it because it's not uncommon for it to
backfire and kill you.

 - In the Temple in 4-2, find a gold door. If you have both the Hedjet and
Sceptre, it will unlock and you can now enter the City of Gold.

 - In the City of Gold in the middle of the level will be the Book of the Dead.
Upon picking it up, Anubis II will spawn and he can be killed with sticky bombs
easily, just like Anubis. Reaching the exit will bring you to Olmec's Lair.

 - Watch the book in your inventory, it should writhe a bit, writhing
more violently at certain points.
Also, he slowly sinks so there is a limited time for you
to jump on his head and enter Hell. Beware of jumping Magma Men.

   = Q) What counts as "treasure" for the No Scorer achievement?

   - A) Anything that increases your score, including the small gold nuggets
you find in the ground. Damsels don't count as treasure though. Note that you
can't "lose" your treasure (spending it, monkey stealing it) and still get the
achievement - you must not pick up ANY treasure at all!

   = Q) What's your Gamertag?

   - A) BliggidyBabez. I don't play online a whole lot though.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   = Q) How good are you at this game?

   - A) Of course no one has asked this question! But I'm going to tell you
anyway. As of writing my high score is $1.25 mil and my best time is 5:14:591.
I have all the achievements as of 07/15/2012 with my last one being Addicted.
I actually got my second to last, Low Scorer, at around 850 deaths. :)
