Even if they are planning it, this is not AC:3 so no, they are not making AC:4.

On a flip side, they will be making a number 3 and it's likely that from the ending it will be more based around Desmond this time around (though not necessarily in the real world as you would die once and that's it with the design of the animus answering how you can fail and re-try)

AC 3 will probably be launched in Q4 2012, but you never know with game releases.

This game has been voted as a big and way better expensive add-on for ACII which has a little bit of a series of the game and that is the end but i am sure that ACIII will be about desmond if you have finished ACB

Ubisoft has always said there will be 3 main games. I'm not going to dig through a ton of articles at 6am to find it, but the devs said that the concept was to start with the original Assassins, move to the Italian setting with some present-day stuff, then feudal Japan and the present. ACB is just there to fill in some of the gaps in the story that weren't resolved in AC2. If you watch the developers interviews on live one of them talks about trying to finish the series by Q4 2011. AC3 should be fun. There's a lot they can do with the golden-era of the Samurai and Desmond seems to get better with each game. AC3 will probably end with Desmond having to face Obama in the Oval Office. There could have been Kenyan Templars, you don't know, you weren't there.

ACIII will be coming out fall 2011 and will most likely put you in the role of a female assassin. time period unknown. Though originally ubi was set to make 3 main games they pretty much said that now they don't have an ending game in mind yet. Meaning that ACIII will not be the end of the series and they'll be going to at least iv or v

In order:

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is formally an expansion of Assassin's Creed 2, not AC3.

Assassin's Creed 3 is currently in production. The release date has not been confirmed but is rumored to be in time for the 2012 holiday season.

No location or hero/heroine for Assassin's Creed 3 has been confirmed. One dev interview suggested a European setting around the time of WWI or WWII has been considered with a female assassin as the heroine. Note that the same interview said AC will not necessarily be a trilogy, though it isn't clear whether that refers to more expansions for current or future games. Speculation on the forums has suggested the American Revolution as a setting based on some of the symbology during the endof AC:B. Others believe the 'final' game will have Desmond as the protagonist, possibly with one of Desmond's decendants reliving Desmond's memories through an Animus like device.

AC brotherhood is more of an AC 2.5
