During the mission briefing for the supposedly haunted Stratacombs, Zeno will jokingly remind Gunvolt to bring a Proton Pack. Proton Packs were the iconic weapons in Ghostbusters, a famous 1980s movie.

Elise's petrification technique is a nod to Medusa, a creature in Greek mythology. Both figures were female, had snake motifs, could turn enemies into stone via staring, and could be defeated by an opponent looking in the opposite direction.

The Orochi bolt is named after Yamata no Orochi, a major figure in Japanese mythology. The weapon can fire and tag enemies in eight directions, and the legendary creature had eight heads and tails.

In a nod to the space elevator in the Mega Man X series, the name of the space elevator in this game is also named Babel. Both areas are named after the Tower of Babel, a famous location in the Book of Genesis. The stage description also compares it to the Styx, a river in Greek mythology that formed the boundary between Earth and the Underworld.
