Who is Link and who is Zelda?

  1. Is the story at the beginning a prophecy and every so often there is a new hero born along with a Princess to fill the roles once again? In every game, there are many of the same towns but different. In OoT Kakariko village is a nicely set up community but in TP, it is a desert town with old, run don buildings. Is it over time like how I said every so often a new hero is born? Or is it that the game designers design a new Hyrule every time?

  1. The known theory is is that every time evil rises up to threaten the land of Hyrule, a new hero also rises up as a reincarnation of the first hero who saved the land, namely Link. The Zelda's are also always new, but unlike Link, they follow the same bloodline all the way down, essentially having every daughter born in that bloodline named Zelda. And the game designers do design new Hyrules, but in essence it's supposed to be the same one.

  2. The answer to that question is too long. The shortest and most simple answer is that the Zelda games happen in different times. Not different worlds, not different dimensions, just different time. I don't know for sure how many Links or Zeldas there are, but they're not the same in every game.

There are 2 different Hyrules though, Old Hyrule and New Hyrule. New Hyrule is only on Spirit Tracks, but the Old Hyrule is the same found in every Zelda game. Unless you count the different timelines as having different Hyrules.

The time different between Zelda games isn't known for sure, but it's a long time, and that's for sure.

  3. Like megamachopop, I always think Link reincarnates into a dude with an elf hat. Hyrule ages over time. They are all the same links that end up in different places. Same with Zelda, because in Skyward Sword, Zelda lives in Skyloft.
