"An all round good baseball game"

High Heat 2003 is a very good baseball game with lots of changeable game options, great commentary and loads of game modes. With loads of teams playable and room for you own this is one great game.

Game play:
The manual is very bleak and boring so unless you know a lot about baseball or have other baseball games, this game can be very hard to play, but with a bit of time and patience it is easy to get going. Batting is a simple matter of timing you hits and moving your players. Fielding involves loads of different pitching combinations and fielding options. With injury and errors anything can happen. There are so many options that I don’t know what most of them do, but with a bit of tweaking you can make your batters faster and more powerful than the opponents ones. There are many game modes, apart from the usual exhibition mode, there is a season mode, playoff mode, batting practice, all-star games and the new home run derby. In home run derby you must get as many home runs as possible. There is also a player and team editor thrown in. This editor is however very simple and there isn’t much fun in it.

Every game falls down in some department and this game falls down in graphics. The crowd consists of a fat man and an old lady cloned over and over again, and many edges are badly serrated. The players look rather good and there are some minor details in the game that make up for the poor stadium graphics. The sound is very good with people cheering and booing, sometime they even shout insults/encouragements to your players. The commentary is very good but will eventually get annoying, but guess what, you can tweak that too! There is also a great choice in camera angles.

Playtime/Replay value:
Most sports game keep on giving entertainment usually until their sequel comes out, and this one is no different. With so many options and game modes, if you like baseball then this will keep on giving at least until the next great baseball game comes out.

I give this game 7/10. It lets itself down in the graphics department and is a little bit unfriendly to those who are new to baseball. The team editor is very boring as well. But the commentary, great gameplay and replay value make up for this. If you have only the slightest interest in baseball, then you should experience this game.
