A near flawless victory(possible spoilers)

As we all know, Mortal Kombat has a spotted history with action/adventure games. However, Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks breaks this trend as one of the best Mortal Kombat games of all time.

Graphics: 7/10

The graphics in this game are great at some points, but not so good at others. The intro movie looks phenomenal, but the other cutscenes look like they got lazy. The game itself looks good to, especially the fatalities and brutalities in the game.

Sound: 8/10

The sound is what you would expect from a Mortal Kombat game. The sound sometimes does get annoying when you are killing a bunch of enemies and all you hear is their screams.

Gameplay: 8/10

This is where the game really shines to me. The gameplay is like that of a platformer at some points but like an action beat 'em up game at others. The game allows you to play as one of two characters, Kung Lao and Liu Kang, with Sub-Zero and Scorpion being unlockable characters. The game has you progress through famous Mortal Kombat locations, all the while developing your character's special moves. The special moves are moves that they used in the Mortal Kombat fighting games. The development system is like that of the Lord of the Rings games, but with a twist. Instead of you reaching different rankings by not getting hit, you just need to keep a combo going to get multipliers. The multipliers go up by one for every ten hits you score. The gamefeatures a co-op and versus game. The co-op game allows for a two player game through the singke player story. The versus mode allows you to use some of the boss characters to play against a friend. Theone drawback is itslength. It can take you six-eight hours to finish the game exploring for unlockable hidden in the levels. However, if you just went through the game without stopping to develop or explore, it can take about half that time to beat the game.

Overall: 8/10

This game is an example of how good a Mortal Kombat adventure could be. The biggest bonus in this game is that after you fulfill certain objectives or use a cheat code, you can unlock Mortal Kombat II for you to play. It is arcade perfect, but you cannot fight Smoke due to the start button being used to pause the game. This game has some flaws in it, but it earns the right to be called one of the best Mortal Kombat games ever made.

Rating:   4.0 - Great
