"Insanely crazy wrestling. Whoo-hoo!"

This is a really funky wrestling game. I don’t know about you, but I really like unrealistic sports games. Of course, the WWF is barely even considered a sport anymore (they’ve turned to entertainment), it still was definitely a sport back during that time. It’s got tons insane stuff. For instance, Doink takes out a huge hammer out of nowhere, then bashes them on the head. More about that later though and let’s make this review start!

Graphics -- 9
The characters were made a good size, and they had lots of detail. They were also nice and colorful, and looked real. The backgrounds looked rather dull, but at least you can still see what’s going on back there. The ring was pretty good, as were the various weapons and attacks that the characters used. Overall, the graphics were very good.

Audio -- 8
The audio mostly consisted of yells from the commentators and sounds of fighting (smashing and bashing). There was some music in the background, but it was pretty quiet. Actually, the best time to hear it was before the match even started. As for the rest of the audio, it’s pretty good. Actually, Vince McMahon and Jerry “The King” Lawler aren’t anywhere close to being as annoying as some other sports game commentators. (*cough* NBA Jam *cough*) In fact, they blend in pretty nice, and its fun to listen to them, cause they say plenty of cool stuff, which ranges to things like “Is that legal?!” to “That’s gotta hurt!” Anyway, besides the commentating, there’s also the bashing sound in ring. They sounds pretty good. A nice BAM when you get knocked up 100 feet above the ring, good slashing sounds from Razor Ramon, and good crunches. (But they overdid it a little with the crunches) Whew, enough with the sound already…

Gameplay -- 9
All the characters had their unique moves and combos. They even had a weapon. For instance, Lex Luger had a silver mace, and Shawn Michaels had a bat. Other unique attacks were pretty cool, too. The Undertaker hit people with an actual tombstone, and Doink hit people with a huge hammer and then shocks them with the old handshake trick. Insane, huh? Calm yourself down. Of course, there are plenty of other moves that each character performs. And when a character gets hit, its cool cause each one has something different fly out of them. Its cool to marvel as you see various objects such as bowling pins, hearts, gold chains, skulls and other things come flying out of your opponent as they get punched. As for the modes of play, you can play for the Intercontinental Championship or the WWF World championship. If you’re playing with a friend, you can even go for the Tag Team titles. Overall, not perfect, but still great gameplay.

Character Selection: 7/10
Old characters for an old game, I guess. You can play as Doink [the clown], Bam Bam Bigelow, Yokozuna, Undertaker, Razor Ramon, Lex Luger, Shawn Michaels, and Bret Hart. Even for the time, it could’ve been better, but it’s still a satisfying selection.

The Final Word
Even if it is old, you should try this game out if you can still find it at an arcade. WWF fans (like me) will probably like it a lot, especially long time fans of the WWF. However, if you don’t like unrealistic games like this and prefer some nice realistic action, chances are that you won’t be to pleased with this game. But if you like those crazy kinds like NBA Jam and NFL Blitz, then I definitely recommend you spare a quarter. Take it from me… I’m in love with those types of games.
