An amazing game for visuals, play, and more play.
Soul Blade was the first in the series, which was a pretty good game for it's time has finnaly received a sequel.
Soul Calibur is an incredible game in nearly every aspect. When this game came out on the Dreamcast it was given top reviews (40/40 in famitsu). Probably because it carried more features. This is not to say that the arcade version of the game is bad, it just means that it doesn't stand worth snuff to the Dreamcast version.
Using the ever-growing popularity of using weapons as the tool in combat, Soul Calibur utilizes shadows, combos, soul strengthening. At the end of every battle you hear the announcer tell everyone that your soul is "strengthened", when you win anyway. The character movement is very smooth (around 60 fps) and the movements are realistic.
Each character uses his or her own weapon. Such weapons are swords (obviously) axes, giant swords (Final Fantasy 7 anyone?) and katanas.
This arcade game is easily worth the quarter or whatever it costs at your local arcade to play. It's awesome and deserves either as much or more attention than a game like Virtua Figher 3.
I strongly urge all people to give this arcade game a try.
Rating: 4.0 - Great
