The game's design was met with troubles during development. Shigeru Miyamoto lacked the necessary programming skills to achieve his ideas and consulted with his other team members to see if his design was possible. Gunpei Yokoi found Miyamoto's design too complex and at one point suggested a see-saw that could catapult the player. This was cut from the game because it was too difficult to program. Miyamoto later settled on the platforms being slanted with the ability to jump and climb ladders. He later specified that he wanted the game to have multiple levels. The four-person programming team was initially dissatisfied with this as Miyamoto was essentially asking them to make the same game multiple times. They followed through with the design nevertheless.
