Howdy all. Today, I wanted to open up the floor to everyone to find out what exactly you would expect from a GameFAQs app. Here are a few example talking points that you can use if you'd like:

- What part(s) of the site would you expect for the app to cover? For example: Boards, FAQs, Reviews, User Profiles, etc.

- Would you prefer an app to the current mobile site? If so, why/why not?

- If GameFAQs had an app, how often do you think that you would use it?

- What would cause you to uninstall a GameFAQs app if you had one installed?

- Which models would you support: Paid Without Ads; Free + Ads; Free + Ads + Pay to Remove Ads (One Time Payment); Free + Ads + Pay to Remove Ads (Subscription)

Thanks for your input!

Personally, it would be best to cover the entirety of the site - or, at minimum, the highest traffic areas which I feel are the contributions (FAQs, cheats, reviews, etc.) and the forums. Otherwise it wouldn't be comparable to the main site and I think most users would just stick to a browser version; I know I would at least.

Honestly, no. gmo made a good point on Site Suggestions about this: what would the app do that couldn't be done or fixed on the main site? I haven't heard a rousing argument in response to that in my recollection. I mean... Really. What COULD an app do that couldn't be changed on the site? What would justify the effort?

I'm also generally inclined towards keeping things the same because I hate change. But that's relatively minor: if an app couldn't do anything better than the main site I'd want your guys' time devoted to more meaningful projects.

Unless, as addressed previously, there was a significant advantage provided over the main site, I doubt I would at all.

- What would cause you to uninstall a GameFAQs app if you had one installed?

Probably just stuff beyond your guys' control since my phone is literal ass. Or if I decided the main site wasn't that much worse than the app (so why waste space?).

Idealistically, Free Without Ads would be best but it has the problem of not bringing in revenue.

In that sense I think "Free + Ads + Pay to Remove Ads (Subscription)" might be best depending on the cost. It would bring in the most revenue from those who pay while allowing the rest to enjoy it freely. The one-time fee might also work; I guess it depends on which people tend to use more and the profits that would translate to.

Though they should be nonintrusive ads and at least with better quality control than the mobile site. You'd quickly drive people away with annoying, persistent, obstructive, scam/virus/porn ads.

Trying to convince users to pay in any way for Gamefaqs is never going to work, i mean why bother paying for the app when you can use the website for free?

Unless of course you plan on charging for the website eventually, in which case the site would end up stone dead.

The Boards, FAQS and Reviews. Cheats also

- Would you prefer an app to the current mobile site? If so, why/why not?

No. I don't even like the mobile site.

- If GameFAQs had an app, how often do you think that you would use it?

Sparingly to almost never.

- What would cause you to uninstall a GameFAQs app if you had one installed?

The phone/tablet was out of storage space. The app takes up too much memory, runs slowly or doesn't work properly.

- Which models would you support: Paid Without Ads; Free + Ads; Free + Ads + Pay to Remove Ads (One Time Payment); Free + Ads + Pay to Remove Ads (Subscription)

Free + Ads. I would not pay for it in any capacity.

Boards at the least. Everything else is secondary.

If the app uses as little of data as possible, I would definitely use the app to the mobile site.

Running out of space or if I never used it.

Of course you should offer a way for people to turn off ads, but there's not gonna be too many people who will be paying to use an app.

tl;dr - focus on a streamlined version of the boards + any other popular section of the site, optimize it so it's not a waste of data to use, and have enough ads to warrant development but not enough to dissuade posters from using the site

Coverage: boards and FAQs for me. Anything else would be a bonus, but I probably wouldn't use those as much.

Prefer one to another: if the app had push notifications available (and optional), I would probably prefer the app, and (of course) if it were ad-free. Otherwise, I'm perfectly fine using the current mobile. Fingerprint security would be a nice touch, too.

How often: I would probably use it as my main interface for the site, since I went through the "hassle" of downloading it.

Reasons for un-install: if the app worked properly, I probably wouldn't un-install it. Regular crashing is about the only thing that bothers me with apps.

Models: I would think a "lite" version with ads and a one-time, paid version without ads. I would probably pay up to $3-4 for the app to get rid of the ads, which sometimes can be obstructive. Unfortunately, I realize $3-4 isn't going to sound good to CBSi unless there is a large market for people to pay that much to cover potential lost ad revenue, but that's my two cents.

Pretty much all of it, unless two apps could make things easier, like on for the message boards and one for the rest.

Maybe if it work better.

Unknown, but could make a nice alternative to using a PC/Mac.

Too buggy and/or too massive to install update and/or eat the bateries too much.

Free App + variant length subscription including "lifetime" Ads removal.
Bonus 1: isn't only for the App.
Bonus 2: come with some extra goodies.

See this is the issue with being owned by an other company that demands ad venenue, people that have have been here years (i have been for 15 years now) are not suddenly going to start paying. Maybe......maybe Cracking down the rampant number of trolls and alt accounts may entice some to pay.

As someone who uses gamefaqs mobile on the extremely rare occurrence, I would pay for an ad free experience because I've spent a lot of time on this site. I don't really care about how you go about this as long as it's a one time fee since that's the least amount of hassle on my part. So either pay for an app or pay to get rid of them.

I would definitely use it to view profiles, post on message boards, and read the occasional FAQ. I think those three things are top priority for me (with board navigation being key)

I would only uninstall the app if I find myself not using it at all because it's slow / buggy / ads everywhere / outdated. I do not foresee that happening at all, and would probably have it on my phone for ease when I need it, and not convert totally to mobile viewing.

I don't believe in website apps, unless it provides a function the website does not. Would prefer resources be put towards optimizing the website. How about stripping trailing spaces from FAQs? Or converting all GIFs to PNGs? Run all PNGs through OptiPNG? Having all save games as .zip?
"Contributed By:" on cheat pages is bold, yet is the information readers will be least interested in.
Cannot support it when the core site could do with tweaks to speed things up.

Hell, even sorting out the front page images would help.
