I've been dvring a bunch of stuff. Watched Bombshell and Wedding March which I thought were pretty solid.

And Desk Set which was lightweight but fun. I don't think I could tire of watching Hepburn

Yesterday was Janet Gaynor day. I recorded Street Angel, Lucky Star, and Sunnyside Up. Pretty excited about digging in to those.

I'm eager to hear your impressions of Street Angel and Lucky Star. The latter is my favorite Borzage film.
Is (the sound a baby makes) an emotion?

I recorded three films on Janet Gaynor's day; State Fair (BP nominee), Lucky Star and Street Angel. The latter two are directed by Frank Borzage whom I've only seen one film and that is Flirtation Walk which will air later in the week. I've always meant to watch more Borzage but I have other interests. I remember Fox came out with a mega set called Murnau, Borzage and Fox which included both Lucky Star and Street Angel and I wanted to get it.

I'll be recording Party Girl and maybe Silk Stockings tomorrow.

State Fair was a snoozer for me

Under the radar movies that are coming up that I would recommend:

-The Divorcee (1930) is pretty good for an early sound Hollywood movie and stars Norma Shearer who won Best Actress for her performance. It airs 6 AM ET on 8/22
-Battleground (1949) is a very solid WWII movie although it's hurt by being filmed on a soundstage. It airs 8 PM ET on 8/25
-The More the Merrier (1943) is a great comedy with Jean Arthur and airs at 9:45 PM on 8/28.
-The Circus (1928) isn't Chaplin's best, but is still a great movie with one of the best endings in film IMO. It airs 9/7 at 10 PM ET.
-The Conversation (1974) is very well-regarded, but I consider it Gene Hackman's best work which is saying something. It airs at 8 PM on 9/9.
-The Smiling Lieutenant (1931) and Imitation of Life (1934) air back to back from 10:15 AM-2 PM on 9/13 and are both worth watching.
-Ruggles of Red Gap (1935) isn't my favorite Charles Laughton movie, but he's always worth watching, and here he's a 100% good guy. It airs on 9/19 at 9:45 PM

Oh nice, I've been wanting to see More the Merrier.

Oh man, looking at their schedule right after Summer Under the Stars they're going to have a block of Preston Sturges films on September 1st.

Lady Eve, The (1941)
Sullivan's Travels (1942)
Palm Beach Story, The (1942)
Hail The Conquering Hero (1944)
Great Mcginty, The (1940)
Sin Of Harold Diddlebock, The (1947)

And plus Il Sorpasso a few days later.

Janet Gaynor was the highlight of the month. TCM did a good job getting a bunch of rarely-aired Fox films together, even if I'd already seen most of them. I can finally check Ladies in Love and Sunnyside Up off my list. Both were dreadful.

Amazon reviews said the poor packaging often scratched the discs so I never bought it. The price is insane too. Lucky Star and Street Angel are already on Blu in France and I think they're region-free.

Poor Anne Baxter has like 4 public domain movies in her August 16 lineup along with the same stuff shown over and over. Swamp Water is her only saving grace because TCM rarely shows it.
