Not in PvP, obviously. Is the extra damage taken worth the extra damage dealt, and the ring slot?

I use them yah. With how my estus is divided I almost never let myself be close enough to people to get hit. I play in a very hit-and-run style so it works for me.
I am Butt, the hurt transformed.

The extra damage output is definitely worth the extra damage taken. Most of the time, the extra damage I take doesn't change my survivability too much (if boss is going to 2-shot me regardless of my ring situation, I'd rather shell out more damage in the meantime).
