your bitterness does not change the fact that they are the same team with the same history

also HM is right, giants already screwed it up

You are a bitter Seattle fan.

The franchise won in 1979.

What happens when the inevitable NBA team moves back to Seattle and Seattle pulls a Winnipeg and calls them the Sonics? Are they the 1979 champs? Are both teams the champs?

TIDQ is right. The "sports year" ends with football.
Please don't cringe okay? I know it's tough.

I thought that Seattle got the Cleveland Browns treatment, in that the history, etc stays with the city?

Both the OKC Thunder and any future Seattle NBA franchise share the history, so the championship would be with both teams.

That sharing history thing is dumb. Only one team is a champion each year.

The Kings and Thunder both started seasons in 2011 the same as the Giants did.

I don't know why this is so hard to figure out. Kings are the 2011-12 Stanley Cup winners. The Thunder could be the 2011-12 NBA champions. The Giants are the 2011-12 NFL Champions.

The NBA and NHL record their seasons as 2011-12 while the NFL records it as just 2011.
