-Things kick off with the League looking for Batman after his disappearing act in the last issue
-Zatanna, Constantine, Blue Beetle, and Green Arrow have no luck finding him, but Cyborg, Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman track him to the Amazon rainforest
-Damian's also along for the ride (on Batman's side of things), driving something called a Bathog:
https://i.imgur.com/SbI8xYE.jpg

-Aquaman pops up and catches Batman:
https://i.imgur.com/6xpya5D.jpg

-But surprise, it's actually a decoy. The entire Bat Fam played misdirect for Bruce. Dick lures the League into Swamp Thing's locale and things get messy:
https://i.imgur.com/LsSGzlP.jpg

-Bruce was actually with Damian in the Bathog the whole time, Supes finds him and tries to talk some reason into him:
https://i.imgur.com/eEoKSHb.jpg

-Batman explains that ever since The Return of Bruce Wayne (from Morrison's run), Barbatos has had his eye on Bruce. Through the Judas Tribe, Barbatos has been preparing him for "The Mantling" by exposing him to situations where he'd interact with five heavy metals that "weigh down the soul." So far Bruce has been exposed to four of them throughout Snyder's run: Electrum from the fountain in the Court of Owls, Dionisium from his fight with Joker in the depths of the Batcave, Promethium from the machine that brought Bruce's memories back during the Bloom arc, and the Nth metal that he used earlier during the beginning of this event with GL and Duke to look into the Dark
-Once Bruce interacts with all five, the Mantling is complete and Bruce becomes the doorway for Barbatos
-After explaining all of this to Bruce and Diana (when did WW get here?), Diana stops them both and says Bruce is stalling for something. Cue Clark:

-BECAUSE HE FINALLY REALIZES IT WAS ACTUALLY CLAYFACE LOL
-Bruce put a transmitter in Clayface to emulate his heartbeat
-Kendra assembles the Immortals to discuss their options for stopping Barbatos, ergo Bruce. They decide on using the Anti-Monitor's Astral Brain to fire into the heart of the multiverse to destroy the dark multiverse (yeah I dunno, that's just what the text says)
-Ra's speaks up (fun fact, he's the youngest of the Immortals) and says that if he knows The Detective (which he does), he'd be heading into the heart of this to face it straight on
-Bruce was actually in the Valley of the Kings the entire time, the resting place of Prince Khufu
-Bruce shares some dialog with Dream:
https://i.imgur.com/ADnbD1z.jpg

-Supes and WW managed to track him down and try once more to talk some sense into him. Batman responds by finally pulling out what was in the bag the whole time and:
https://i.imgur.com/5eOJsSG.jpg

-Bruce plans on using lil' babby Darkseid to go back in time again with Hawkman's mace and beat Barbatos in the face
-Kendra calls in and says that she destroyed Khufu's tomb ages ago and that they were misdirected into going to Hath Set's tomb. The Judas Tribe emerges from behind a hidden wall along with the Court of Owls, turns out the Court has been a modern sect of the Judas Tribe all this time
-The Court exposes Batman to the final metal, one that had to be made synthetically in the collider during Superheavy because it doesn't exist otherwise, the aptly named Batmanium
-Bruce disappears, the Portal opens, and a number of Bruce Waynes from the Dark Multiverse pop up in his place:
https://i.imgur.com/783iNB8.jpg

-One of the Batmen hits Clark and Diana with some lightning and they age and decay, another of the Batmen says "This is gonna be fun" while smiling. Next is Rise of the Dark Knights!

An entire universe of Batmen? Good god Snyder must have the biggest bat-boner of anyone at DC.

This issue slowly ticked from pretty cool to kinda silly to totally ridiculous.

It says a lot about us as comic readers that Snyder snuck in an ongoing plot thread of Batman being exposed to metals throughout all these years, and no one noticed because convenient plot metals are so normal to us. I don't know if I'm angry or impressed.

While I really enjoyed his stint on Batman, I feel like most people were too busy hating on Snyder (people complaining that Court of Owls was too similar to Black Mirror, his interpretations of Joker and Riddler, Gordon as Batman, etc) to notice the ongoing theme of metals throughout his arc. If anything I'd say it's impressive because I doubt getting to this point was ever the plan 6 years ago, though 4 of the 5 metals making their appearance for the first time in the last 2 years definitely suggests he's been planning this for a good while

As for the Batmen of the Dark Multiverse, yeah that's pretty damn ridiculous. I think it's a good kind of ridiculous though, a bunch of crazy edgy what-if Batman as the bad guys sounds like a fun read

So what is the consensus on his run? I thought everyone loved it. Personally, I disliked almost everything he did. Not being a hater, I did try. And you may not care, but these are some things I didn't like, (and maybe some of these aren't even Snyder):

-Court of Owls makes no sense for an adult Batman, he would have noticed them a long time ago. And then the fact that he solves their mystery in days/weeks makes it worse. Also him being captured by them and walking around a maze for days/weeks was just terrible. The attack on the Batcave and having a robot T-rex....all terrible. Also, how did no one notice the 13th floors in the buildings being missing? Earlier when Bruce was falling from the Skyscraper due to Talon, Bruce caught a "hidden gargoyle" or whatever that he said only he knew about his great granddad's work...so how come he didn't know about floor 13? I also disliked how they made kid Bruce kill that owl for no reason. And Nightwing going to be a member, even having that tooth, was just stupid.

-The art style I don't like, (not Snyder's fault though) but I also didn't like how they had Batman smiling. I think it was 2-3 times, but one in particular was when Batman was on a motorcycle and was getting ready to attack thugs on a train/choppper (I forget). Batman smiled before doing so. This is not a thrill ride for Batman, IMO, he shouldn't be enjoying it.

-Zero Year is garbage. Like...why is Batman even dressed like that? No cape? Really? He's not even a bat at this point.

-Joker having his face cut off. Why? Then pretending to cut off the faces of the Bat family. I feel like he would have actually cut their faces off.

-Batman had a machine that had his memories in it. I don't need to go further.

-Ruined Mr. Freeze. Just unnecessary to make him think the lady was his wife when it wasn't.

-Gordon should never be Batman.

-The stupid mohawks, Macklemore haircuts... Why? Batman had it, Joker had it, Riddler had it in the shape of a question mark, Gordon had it, Freeze had it....like..c'mon.

-Kryptonite bubble gum.

Sorry for the rant. There's more, but I just believe the majority feel like his stuff, (if this was all his stuff) was superb as I have seen interviewers praise him. I literally hate all this stuff. And as I was looking in this topic, (besides the art giving it away) I was like man...this reminds me of the Snyder stuff. And then I read the quoted post. Smh.

-Joker having his face cut off. Why?

To be fair, that's Tony Daniel's decision not Snyder since he wasn't planning on using Joker right away in his run. Snyder just ended up running with it.

And I cant speak for why you hate his run, as I loved it for the most part and I loved Capullo's art. Though I will admit the Gordan-Bats stuff did start to loose me.

I gotcha. But it is just me is what I'm getting at as the majority actually loved the run, correct?

-Court of Owls

It's worth remembering that at the beginning of New 52, Batman had only been Batman for about 5 years. I think that makes it credible enough to believe that an organization like the Court would be able to exist without his knowledge despite his knowhow. Also, buildings without a 13th floor is a very common thing:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thirteenth_floor

This is not a thrill ride for Batman, IMO, he shouldn't be enjoying it.

This I sort of disagree with, Bruce is Batman because he does enjoy it on some level, now whether he should outwardly express that is debatable but I do believe Bruce does like being Batman as much as he views Batman's existence necessary for the good of Gotham

-Zero Year is garbage. Like...why is Batman even dressed like that? No cape? Really? He's not even a bat at this point.

Batman starts out Zero Year with a cape, he loses it as the arc goes on. Also he was already Batman at this point, Zero Year doesn't happen before Year One, it's "Ground Zero" for a big event that happened in Gotham that people remember and refer to as such

-Joker having his face cut off. Why?

This actually wasn't Snyder, Tony S. Daniel did that, but he kept it going so YMMV

-Ruined Mr. Freeze. Just unnecessary to make him think the lady was his wife when it wasn't

I didn't like this either, but I mostly forgot about it because Freeze hasn't really been in anything in the past few years

-Kryptonite bubble gum.

I don't see the issue with this, kryptonite can be a gas, a rock, a blade, a bullet, a liquid; so why not gum (which is really just putty when you think about it)?

But yeah, I'd rather not derail the topic and would like to stick to the issue at hand if possible

I liked Gates of Gotham, Black Mirror, Court of Owls, and Zero Year.

Did not like Death of the Family or Endgame.

Haven't read any of his other bat-stuff.
