EA was just pushing so hard to have a P2W Star Wars game but the audience for this game isn't dude bro gamers which buy madden/fifa so they got so much backlash.

For those that don't know in Madden and Fifa EA has a mode called ultimate team where you can make your own custom team from players you get by opening packs of cards. The good players are very rare but you get explosions and stuff when you open a good player. Now you can earn the cards by slower playing the game or you can just buy them. If you P2W you crush players who don't buy packs.

This is why they wanted P2W so much in Battlefront. Their mistake was the same audience doesn't play madden/fifa that plays Battlefront and most everyone was pissed since they aren't bro gamers who accept P2W practices.

Ea removing microtransactions was their attempt to please people in the short term to get them to buy the game, but EA wants their money they for sure will bring microtransactions back and say something along the lines of, its been a month (or two) we are now letting people buy loot crates so they can catch up with the people who have been playing longer.

They didint remove anything, they put it on hold till a later time - This means nothing but we got their attention.

How anyone can defend EA, the literal worst video game company of all time boggles my mind. They either work for EA or plan to spend money so they can wreck people themselves
I got 99 problems but a Switch aint one!

the difference is in madden and fifa that only applies to one game mode. its isnt infecting the entire experience.

you should have used NBA 2k as a better example for this one

They put an official statement microtransactions wont be part of the progression anymore.

They're not going to try it again, they're greedy, not stupid.

Apparently I didin't read the same statement you did

http://www.ign.com/articles/2017/11/17/ea-takes-star-wars-battlefront-ii-microtransactions-offline

"We’re turning off all in-game purchases," DICE GM Oskar Gabrielson's statement reads. "We will now spend more time listening, adjusting, balancing and tuning. This means that the option to purchase crystals in the game is now offline, and all progression will be earned through gameplay. The ability to purchase crystals in-game will become available at a later date, only after we’ve made changes to the game. We’ll share more details as we work through this."

There is nothing here that says they are not trying it again, they are both greedy and stupid.

All of reddit is in agreement that this is hardly anything yet sheep here are lining up to graze on that EA farm

Disney does not want EA dragging bad star wars PR into the mainstream media, especially before the movie. EA does not want to piss off Disney. If you think EA is bad, DIsney is a crazy profit monster they raised the requirements and price to show star wars in a theater, theaters have to like pay higher to play it, and they're required to play it for like at least a month on their best and biggest screen. Which totally screws smaller theaters over.

So Disney would totally s*** on EA, and give Star Wars video game IP to activision or ubisoft or something. They have the legal clout to pull it off.

They wont do pay to win in a star wars game again, the bad PR and media attention would piss disney off too much. Not worth it.
will they try to do pay to win bulls*** in another game? probably down the road when the heats died down a bit. they cant risk more damage or investors and disney will bail and pull their IPs with them. EA can not afford to sour their relationship with Disney.

We're safe guys, and if they try it again just cause another uproar enough to get Disney's attention, which was thebest way to handle that. Whoever was teh guy who started to make everyone tag disney in their BF2 hate posts, thats the real hero.

EA probably has something in their contract that says they can't damage the Star Wars brand else they have to pay Disney a lot of they do.

Oh absolutely. Disney is HYPER protective of their brand.

They won't care if a game is predatory or bad, as long as it makes money, but bad press f*** that, they'll stab EA in the nuts for that.

Yeah, both the critic and user scores on Metacritic are in the tank.

Normally, I don't put a lot on Metacritic scores, but considering the stories about things like bonuses being tied to keeping a certain Metacritic score, I wouldn't be surprised if Disney had something in their licensing agreement with EA about keeping the score within a certain range.
