Welcome back you guys, it's been such a long journey ever since I decided to take on the challenge of watching every single episode of the Pokémon anime!! Now that I'm all caught up with the show and am currently waiting for US released dubbed episodes (next episode is on August 19th I believe), so what do I do until then? Well, let's start all over again but this time with the Pokémon MANGA!!!

If you want to take a trip down memory lane and relive past episodes with me and maybe strike up a conversation based on my experiences throughout the Pokémon universe check out my previous topics below! At the very last page of the last topic is where I begin Volume 1 of the Manga so it's not too late to jump into the conversation as I wait for more episodes of the Sun & Moon anime to be released. Also, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are getting closer too, wow what a world of Pokémon!

This is what pokedude was talking about before. Red's cascade badge is visible on his shirt when he's saying goodbye to Misty.

Trainers can carry as much as they want but it's generally agreed upon that 6 is the optimal number for a trainer and in official events only 6 registered pokemon are able to be used. That said, trainers aren't the only ones that use pokemon.

I just went back and looked at that, wow I guess I should be looking harder at the images because I totally missed seeing the Cascade badge on his shirt. WTF lol you would think for something as big as earning a badge would be the highlight of the story or at least emphasize what the Cascade badge would do in the long run, like Brock's Boulder badge would increase a Pokémon's attack power. What about the Cascade badge?

As for the rule of 6 thing, I guess I'll just have to let go of certain things that I hold very true to me in regards to how being a Pokémon trainer works. The anime has set up rules where a 7th Pokémon caught would automatically be transported back to the Professor's lab, here, I'll have to wait for them to explain it all to me which is okay I guess but it makes me question everything I already know about Pokémon and being a trainer..

The Boulder Badge's power simply reflects what it did in the games. The Cascade Badge allowed traded pokemon up to level 30 obey you. But since levels don't seem to exist outside of the supplementary material at the back of the volume, they just gloss over that (plus it would complicate a plot point later on).

Pokémon Adventures: Volume 1, Adventure 10 - "Danger: High Voltorb"

Favorite Moment/Quote: Red solves the case of the missing Pokémon and boards the S.S. Anne to recover them
Featured Pokémon: Poliwhirl, Voltorb

"So young but already a Pokémon trainer." I like this line a lot, and I like it not because when you break it down it completely changes the universe from what I thought it was. The universe depicted in the anime, a kid becomes 10 and can get his/her very first Pokémon and set out to win the Pokémon League, great, awesome. Here on the other hand it's implied that Pokémon training is for people who are already grown in certain aspects, maybe not in regards to age or anything, but wisdom/experience. Where the anime is a bit more whimsical and fantastical as in "kids can be the hero of the story!" here we have a bit more of a believable setting that sets Red apart from Ash in that Red is already defying all odds by being a Pokémon trainer "at such a young age" whereas it's the norm in Ash's universe.

The Voltorb reveal I feel was done way better in the anime, I think in the anime a Voltorb is quite too big to be mistaken for a Pokéball but here it was done exactly how I imagined. "Ooh a Pokéball!" *Zzzzapppp!!!* Perfect. I guess right now I'm trying to figure out who is stealing the Pokémon and why. Is it really Lt. Surge? Why? I don't think it is, perhaps he doesn't even know what's going on on his ship, maybe Team Rocket is smuggling the Pokémon to Cinnabar Island, I mean I probably feel dumb for asking this but I don't remember all the little plot details to the original Pokémon story. I'm guessing it's Team Rocket and Lt. Surge will be impressed with Red and how he deals with thugs and battling "at such a young age". That's just me though, I'm down to be completely shocked and surprised also.

Red's Current Six: Poliwhirl, Bulbasaur, Pikachu

Major Current Events: Red is revealed to be younger than most just starting Pokémon trainers, Red is revealed to have had Poliwhirl since he was a kid as a Poliwag, Red is an honorary member of the Pokémon Fan Club, Red meets Lt. Surge for the first time

+Red's In-Storage/Released/Other+: Nidoran (M), Bellsprout, Fearow

*Red has currently earned 2 Kanto Region Gym Badges*

This world is just different from the games and anime. Some good/neutral characters are now evil.

Pokémon Adventures: Volume 1, Adventure 11 - "Buzz Off, Electabuzz!"

Favorite Moment/Quote: A fully evolved Poliwrath rescues Red and defeats Lt. Surge's Electabuzz
Featured Pokémon: Electabuzz, Poliwhirl, Magnemite, Poliwrath

I don't know if I share similar opinions with the majority of the fans or not, but I will say this: I'm not upset that a Water type was able to defeat an Electric type. Story-wise I can buy that Poliwhirl evolved into Poliwrath and was able to overcome its type disadvantage against Electabuzz to win in the end. I mean technically that Electabuzz should have still been able to mop the floor with Poliwrath even after gaining the Fighting type during evolution. I can buy anything in the world as long as it tells a good story, now usually you guys know that I like to question things a lot or point out how it should have been handled but I'm satisfied with this underdog story and how it turned out-- it's a very Ash-like situation where overcoming the odds and saving the day just comes natural to him.

I had to go back and check the art to be sure I didn't miss seeing the Thunder Badge... So will Red return to challenge Lt. Surge for the Thunder Badge or are we just going to keep going and run into Surge again another time? I'm down for whatever because at this point I may have all but accepted that this is a new take on the story and that literally anything can happen. I know it may seem like it would be "too much like the anime" but I think Red needs a companion. He needs someone like Brock to be the "wise one", the one to guide him along the way; also he needs his rival to get back in the picture because I completely forgot that Blue was even a force anymore after the Fight Club event for the Boulder Badge. Red needs to be challenged, we need a Brock or Gary character to interact with soon to keep things interesting for me at least.

Red's Current Six: Poliwrath, Bulbasaur, Pikachu

Major Current Events: Red's Poliwhirl evolves into Poliwrath, Poliwrath rids the S.S. Anne of Electabuzz and Lt. Surge, Lt. Surge and Electabuzz disappear but while his men are all arrested for stealing Pokémon

+Red's In-Storage/Released/Other+: Nidoran (M), Bellsprout, Fearow

That is not the case at all, as TC will soon find out.

But on the off chance that they were referring to the latter part of my comment. Yeah, I actually didn't notice until i reread the arc but he did seem too competent to be a normal rocket
