ITP: Empty land has more rights than people.

ITP: Farmers should have no control over their destiny. They should be at the mercy of inner city, latte-sipping virtue-signallers.

why do 10 farmers have more power than a entire city

They don't, they never have, and anyone who tells you they do thinks you're stupid enough to believe that to be true. BBT is one of those people who believes that about you.

Based on your post, he may well be right.

We'll manage. Besides, it's not like they have a choice. What are the Midwest farmers going to do? Get a job at NASA with their non-existent college degreees?

A surprisingly large number of farmers DO have college degrees. In Agronomy.

You switched his argument to a strawman where the coastal liberals are going to deliberately vote to screw over people from the country, which obviously wouldn't happen.

You could argue that setting a minimum wage that is appropriate for cities yet will cause significant harm to rural areas is deliberately screwing people over. Just one possible example.

I always find it kinda interesting how farmers are suddenly all-important when it comes to these discussions, but are very rarely referenced at all in national politics. I find the narrative largely false though.

It's not as though you cross into a blue state/district and it's suddenly a sprawling metropolis, they have their rural areas too. And it's not like red states are all farms, they have their cities as well, the rural vs. city divide is far more complex than a state-by-state division.

Also, the fact is that most people don't live in either. Most people live in what could best be described as suburbs, regardless of where they are.

Furthermore, that image of the small family farmer that we think of as being representative of the south? Mostly false. There are still some family farms but the vast majority of our agriculture is now done by large corporations.

Do you think inner city hipsters should dictate to farmers how they rotate their crops?

And why should 10 farmers dictate how 5000 inner city inhabitants get managed?

Because 10 farmer can starve those 5000 city inhabitants

Which is why we have an obesity epidemic, because they basically grow a very slow poison.

no one is denying that but pointing out hte EC is a broken system is still a true fact

Yet, it works better for the U.S. than a straight popular vote would.

For all the whining about how populated centers should have more power than farming centers, you should ask yourself if you really want to piss on the people responsible for feeding you.

This assumes that the people in populated centers would intentionally f*** over the 'farmers'. Why would they? What would anyone gain from f***ing them over.

You're using a flimsy argument at best if you can't actually look at it from both angles. You need to have a valid reason why farmers would end up being screwed over.

What, no it doesn't, at all. If you vote for person X and person Y gets elected, then you've pretty much gotten screwed over. That's why so many people are so angry at the election of Trump, to the point of taking to the streets over it, they feel they've gotten screwed over. Their voice wasn't heard. Switching to a popular vote system so it's aways the farmers and rednecks getting f***ed over doesn't fix that problem in any way. You switched his argument to a strawman where the coastal liberals are going to deliberately vote to screw over people from the country, which obviously wouldn't happen.

But what are the farmers gaining or losing here?

With a national popular vote nobody would ever give a rat's ass about farmers again, or rural Americans in general. Their candidate would never win again unless it was the same one urban voters wanted. What are urban voters losing in the current system? Sometimes they win, sometimes they lose. That doesn't seem like something to complain about. Just don't run awful candidates like Clinton, who ran the worst campaign since Mondale as far as I'm concerned.
