@willythemailboy what part of Illinois are you from? I also come from rural Illinois.

Farming is largely corporate but there are still a lot of little guys out there and they are responsible for a lot of jobs around here. They are an important part of this country and shouldn't be ignored but this narrative that they would get "screwed over" in a popular vote is silly. What really screws them over is voting for todays republicans as they have consistently proven to not give a crap about anybody but their corporate overlords.

Democrats aren't innocent of this but at least they aren't actively trying to screw over their constituents

ITP: Empty land has more rights than people.

ITP: Farmers should have no control over their destiny. They should be at the mercy of inner city, latte-sipping virtue-signallers.

Yes. That's exactly how it should be. It's called democracy.

No, that's called tyranny of the majority. If you think you have the right to dictate to a minority because you have a higher population than them... You're not very progressive or liberal, are you? Doesn't matter if the minority is merely population of a state or of a race, you don't have the right to dictate to another party or race or state just because you have the bigger numbers.

I never noticed but it is a tad ironic that those b****ing about the EC would generally be the first ones jumping to defend minorities on social issues.

It's also a tad ironic that the right wing defenders of the EC want to weight / micro manage / regulate our inalienable rights.

EC defenders must be commies.

Probably because small states already get, by design, equal representation in the senate. On the other hand, the current situation has a minority not just getting representation but essentially dominating the entire government. You can't even say that the HoR gives proportionate representation anymore because of gerrymandering. How is that fair? Why shouldn't one branch of government actually represent a true will of the people?

The electoral college was created to ensure that demagogues and such could not hold office, but it's pretty clearly failed in that respect.

what does it look like adjusted by race?

Excuse me?
Did you just suggest that members of some races should have less votes than others?

He probably wants non white votes to be, I don't know, just a number off the top of my head, but like 3/5ths of a vote.

Even without gerrymandering Democrats would do terribly in the house as they have zero presence outside major metropolitan areas and their suburbs (look at the electoral map by county, no gerrymandering could affect that), and that will always put them in a minority of districts. You can see a prevalent attitude from the Hillary wing of the party that basically amounts to disgust, condescension and loathing toward rural Americans. That's a much larger problem for you in the house than gerrymandering.

When you win about 500 out of 3000+ counties, and congrssional districts are geographical in nature, yeah you have a huge problem.

You really need to lose this fetish about counties. Just in Illinois, the 7 counties around Chicago have 12 different house districts in them, and the 15th district has all or part of 34 counties in just that one district. Counties mean nothing.
