Late shows tend to be hosted by comedians.

Because conservatism is inherently incompatible with comedy.

Comedy is achieved through several means: absurd-ism, exaggeration, parody, satire, self-deprecation, and deconstruction. It punches up. In other words, great comedy effectively takes aim at the institutions, values, and presumptions that we as individuals and as a society hold most dear, which is entirely at odds with conservatism. Conservatism does not aim to self-correct. Conservatism does not aim to improve. It aims to preserve, or to revert.

I would figure Jimmy Kimmel for a conservative simply by association with Adam Carolla.

Comedy doesn't always punch up. It very rarely does. But usually the people it's punching down on isn't the audience. When your joke is "greedy poor people don't want to die!" then the poor people who make up the audience aren't going to laugh.

I think your wrong here. Even when a particular brand of comedy is inherently self-deprecating, when it serves to mock and denigrate one's self, community, or demographic, it serves the larger purpose of challenging the cultural presumptions and value systems in which we all participate.

You should have countered with South Park, since its libertarian, anti-PC sensibilities are so quickly appropriated by conservative youths.
