I really don't understand the argument against needing an ID to vote.

you should be required to have ID on you at all times anyway.

No you shouldn't. That's dumb. I can walk out of my house and go to the grocery store just fine without an ID.

are you black?

just make sure you don't stare at anyone and don't f*** up driving in any way

oh, and stay north

The problem is that it amounts to a poll tax, which in the United States is banned by the 24th Amendment. Poll taxes meant that the poor (often nonwhites) could not vote and as such those wealthier off had an unfair advantage in voting.

The KKK was not the progenitor of the poll tax (they were around since before the Revolutionary War) but vigorously defended them specifically on the grounds that it helped keep the black vote down.
Rock on forward.

I can WALK out of my house just fine. Said nothing about driving... or staring. I don't really get where you're going with this.

Kkk did not exist before the revolution. White supremacists did, but they existed long before England existed.

How is requiring someone to purchase an item (any item) that is required to vote NOT a form of a poll tax

Are you allowed to vote naked? No. Therefore there is clothing poll tax.

Actually, you are probably allowed to vote naked in many munipalities. At the very least, the polling station will probably provide a free garment to cover yourself while you vote.

This is the Internet; you can't use popularity to prove something is good unless it's something I actually like.

they just want it to be easier to vote for everyone because there are many situations where a potential voter just might not have their id on them at the time.

this is a "don't worry about it, you can participate in our democracy" vs. "we don't care about your situation, either have your id or you can't vote."
