Whole or 2% milk is the way to go. "Whole" milk is actually only like 3% milk, so it's got a bit more milkfat than 2%, but it goes much, much better with cereal, man.

Funny. I actually know several licensed and registered dieticians, and am good friends with a couple of them, and they can't believe anyone would recommend soy-based anything (that hasn't undergone long-term fermentation) or that people still parrot the idea of skim milk being a more healthful choice.

The whole no-carbs thing is a fad like anything else, and they'll tell you that, but even today entire schools still rely on 1970s junk science. You can espouse whatever dietary approach you please, but it won't be going unopposed on this board.

Honestly? The entire field of nutrition is nowadays oversimplified by a bunch of (largely) hacks who prey on the fact that people nowadays have no attention span whatsoever and care more about miracle superfood shortcuts than they do about actual healthy lifestyles. It doesn't really help that the no-carbs brigade is very, very, very good at marketing, and thus does a really good job of convincing people that eating a sandwich made from whole wheat bread will kill you (it won't, and might actually help your digestive system).
Not changing this sig until the Knicks win the NBA Championship! Started...4/23/2011? Or was it 2010?

Nobody recommended soy. I was making the recommendation on my own.
And I was making fun of you with the carb-free thing. Was it not that obvious? The entire board jumps on that train so hard.

I'll spell it right out -- I was accusing you of jumping on some dumb fad like the rest of these boards, and I was lumping you with other fads people here follow.

As someone who's in school for Dietetics who's met many, many RDs, DTRs, CDMs, etc. I have never heard ANYBODY say that there's any reason to ever drink anything other than skim, soy, or almond -- beyond taste, obviously (even though dairy milk tastes vile -- especially anything above skim).

It's not "good fat" in dairy milk, and there's nothing in the higher fat %s that you're missing out on by choosing skim. There's no reason to not choose skim.

Aside from the fact that it tastes like cloudy water.

Well, there are flavorful brands of skim milk, but those brands obviously add sugar.

Seriously, let me reiterate that whole milk isn't any more than 4% milk fat. That's not going to do you any harm, even if you drink a lot.
