following this patch, I was creepin' the wow forums, their mage section specifically. I know there's lots of melodramatic people with TL;DR walls of texts saying how they're quitting wow or re-rolling. and there's a lot of people saying they've been nerfed too critically. but then there's others saying it's not a big deal at all.
is it a big deal pvp wise? is it mostly pvp? or pve as well? or are they still the great class they've been toted as, just a bit less great? I'd like to give frost a whirl at end-game, but wondering if lock or spriest would be better.
Mages imo are just experiencing their down time in this patch like most of the other classes at some point. Fire's combustion nerf along with the critical mass nerf was just horrible. I'm not too sure how it competes with frost now but frost just didn't scale as well with gear as fire last patch, so it isn't exactly the top spec atm. Both are probably still viable, it's just a shame how some hybrid dps classes can outdps mages now.
Fire Mages are the ones complaining, and for good reason. They went from competitive/top DPS to the bottom of the charts. I can understand nerfing them, especially since their damage gets crazy on any form of cleave fights, but that is ridiculous. I mean right now it seems like they have to go back to Arcane Blast spamming on a single target to do any sort of real DPS.
