Most people don't know about this as few play on the ptr and all the "community influencers" are on 100% shill mode.

So let me explain how things actually are on the ptr going by the miserable place that is the ptr forums.

Leveling
- Heirlooms are nerfed to be comparable to greens (at least at low levels)

- xp gains are now "balanced" so that a full set of looms in 7.3.5 lets you the same level progress as no looms get you now. May change as that is absurd.

- xp to level to 60 was increased by 40-60% (depending on the level) to make it linear with that of the tbc xp requirements

Scaling
- The world scaling is ilvl scaling, not just level scaling

- Mob difficulty was increased along with their health pools increasing considerably.

- ilvl scaling appears to be on the level of the pre-nerf broken shore ivl scaling.

- Dungeon mobs are increased to the point where you will have to take one group at a time.

Community feeback:
- People on ptr claiming a 1 wipe minimum per random df run with groups that know that they are doing.

- Quest xp has been nerfed to the point where (without looms) you are only lvl 4 coming out of the starting area. meaning you need to grind out 1-2 levels after northshire to take goldshire quests. To compare this to vanilla, you were over level six coming out of northshire, meaning early leveling is actually slower than vanilla without heirlooms in 7.3.5

- One of the most positive threads on the ptr forum is a user claiming how the game is still too easy, and that pulling more than 4 mobs should be a death sentence. A lot of agreement (who knew raynell/joker/daddy had so many alts?)

- On the asian versions of the game, there are xp pots on the cash shop for increased 100% xp for an hour. People are saying they are now available via the na/eu cash shop on the ptr.

PS. Keep in mind, since the legion beta, not one thing has changed from beta/ptr to live. We still have bugs that were in beta.

Expect everything to make it to live. Expect changes only to come months after live and the subsequent sub loss caused by these "new ideas."

To give an example of what the xp changes look like.

Overall, quest xp has been considerably lessened and xp per kill has been buffed slightly. To account for slight increase in mob xp, mobs have been made much harder to kill.

The change is that you get less levels per zone now unless you grind 1-2 levels per zone along with questing. This assumes you do EVERY quest in a zone, if you skip any, the level gap will increase accordingly.

Amount of xp needed to level:
- 1-10 is the same xp as on live

- xp from 10-20 increases linearly until at lvl 20 the amount of xp is increased over 60% from live

- xp from 20-40 requires 60% more common than live

- xp from 40-50 requires about a 40% increase over live

- xp from 50-60 requires about a 20% increase in xp over live

- This makes the 1-60 xp curve linear to that of tbc

- xp from 60-120 is (so far) unchanged

For those of you who are wondering why the xp increase is less 40-60, that is because it was already increased.

Around May of 2016, there was an undocumented change that increased required xp to level 40-60 by 30-40%

Simultaneously, there was a nerf to dungeon xp. The nerf was so severe that a user in June 2016 with a recruit-a-friend 300% xp boost got LESS xp than a normal dungeon run in April of 2016.

The forums were in uproar but nothing was ever done as no one played the game back then.

Quest XP being too low to get you out of the tutorial zone sounds like an obvious bug.

Then watch as it turns out Blizzard balanced the XP curve based on Rested XP.
I will rule the world, and find that truly good cup of coffee.

It's not an xp curve at all anymore. You can see it on wowhead, but it is linear all the way to 61 now.

There was a huge jump in xp needed to get to 58-60. Now the xp "curve" is linear.
