I should be playing Air right now. Curse my friends for making me try Civilization 5 again. Apparently the third time was the charm.

It's a small world.

I just finished playing Symphonic Rain the other day and was listening to the OST on youtube. Guess who I found in the comment section?

The game in general was pretty nice and refreshing, having a soothing and calm atmosphere. Ultimately I was never quite able to sympathize with the characters and didn't get past thinking "that's nice". I wrote two lengthy posts about it over on reddit:

Ah, yes, back when I was still able to comment on Youtube videos...not so much a small world as an easily-read archaeological record. ^_^

Heh. Funny thing, it looks like we formed similar opinions on the content, but with completely different conclusions. The game actually did impact me, and pretty severely at times. I was absolutely in love in Fal, grew to love Ari around the same amount, and had a lot of affection for Lise, Torta, and Phorni. But ultimately, since I was dealing with a lot of stress at the time, and Family Project was getting a bit heavy, I was looking for something calm, fluffy, and soothing...which was absolutely not what I got.

Had to avoid spoilers in that review, but I was pretty glad I was in a usergroup on that site with (eventually) five other people who played the game, so I didn't go insane keeping everything in.

Also, I actually really liked the rhythm game. Partly because I like Stepmania-esque rhythm games to begin with, partly because it really felt integrated into the story that you're practicing for a major recital. Temporarily reignited the band geek within me.

*dusts and rearranges the furniture*

"Well, I think I'm about done with my Mount & Blade kick. It's one of those games I can only play a couple weeks at a time before getting bored. I guess I'll try some of these mods first, though. What's this one? Gekokujo?"

*one month later*

"...oh, right."

Probably best to let this go, then. Thanks guys, it was definitely fun while it lasted.

Thanks for helping to keep this alive, Drow.

I know that a lot of the old board members (myself included) don't really come around anymore. I find myself playing hardly any bishoujo games these days, although the occasional one does pop up. I've never forgotten about Kana and this board, though. I've actually been checking in on it at least once a month out of habit. I was always glad to see that it hadn't completely closed up.

If you happen to check back again, I came across this old page from a portion of my site. I'd forgotten about it until recently:

Good times.

I admit, I've been gaming the system a bit. Threads on this board will auto-lock after 20 days with no responses. Kinda hard to come up with something new to say every 19 days, but glad to see it's still being read. Worst come to worst and it gets archived, I'll be happy. ^_^

Still have to work through my backlog, which I think is a dozen games strong at this point. In fact, it's suddenly kind of a weird nuisance that Steam is selling more games, since that's just adding to the problem! (Except Clannad, still stoked that I could legitimately buy the game in usable format)

Holy carp, I remember that! Man, I'm gonna have to look through the threads, I'm trying to remember what the context was.

...weird thing is, I remember why I picked Sulia for that list, but not anyone else. -_-

My Steam library continues to grow, and I'll never have the time to play it all. But part of me just likes owning certain games. I'm not always in the mood for certain genres either, so I tell myself that having a large library allows me different options to play what I want.

As for the anime list, it started in this topic:

It's interesting how time changes our perspectives on things. I guess it's a matter of what's 'current' to us at the time, but I wouldn't list Kaorin (Azumanga Daioh), Rika (Cardcaptor Sakura), Kyon's sister or Saki (Steel Angel Kurumi) among my ten favourite female anime characters anymore.

Also, after recently rewatching all of K-On! (both seasons and the movie), I wouldn't have Ui on the list either. I like her, but she's a 'nothing' character, only defined by her dedication to her sister. After playing the Kyou/Ryou path in Clannad recently, I wouldn't have Ryou on my list anymore either.

So that's six out of ten shot down completely in a matter of just a few years. Who would I add? I might replace Ryou with her twin sister (I'm a sucker for violet eyes). Much like Jpop, I like Chihiro from ef ~a tale of memories~. I might replace Ui (who gets no character exploration at all) with Azu-nyan instead. I kind of have a thing for Sanae from Shinryaku! Ika Musume, but she's also one of those shallow obsessive types who doesn't get any character development, so that may just be another of my unfounded anime crushes.

That leaves two more, and I'm not sure who qualifies for those two positions. I haven't watched much if any anime over the past few years, and not a lot of it has been memorable enough for me to get attached to (or develop a two-dimensional crush on) any of the characters. I guess I'll have to think about it a bit more.

Since I didn't have the chance to add my list back then, may I put it here?

In alphabetical order:
Akari Akaza (Yuru Yuri)
Erushī (Kami Nomi Zo Shiru Sekai)
Hīragi (Hanamaru Yōchien)
Nanoka Kohinata (Koi Kaze)
Shinobu Maehara (Love Hina)
Chiyo Mihama (Azumanga Daiō)
Matsuri Sakuragi (Ichigo Mashimaro)
Chihiro Shindō (Ef)
Sū (Monster Musume No Iru Nichijō)
Mikoto Urabe (Nazo No Kanojo X)

Actually there are a lot more characters which actually deserved a place in the list as well, but as it's restricted to ten names, for the time being I'll leave it at this.
