Any updates to maps is welcome, but I still can't find a build I can beat the Shaper's guardians with, let alone the Shaper himself. =/

I'm still not sure how I feel about special mods on regular items, but it's not that big of a deal.

the corpse gems are meh for me, but that channeling shield seems nice. curious about the hidden two supports, too.

new jewel mods should be fun, but dunno about the league mechanic itself. sounds basically like breach.
Boom! That's right, this is all happening! You cannot change the channel now!

Am I reading this wrong? The Hungry Loop unique ring. You can essentially craft it by placing level 20+ gems into it. So CWDT lvl 20 is somewhat of a downside. But you do essentially get a 5L with that single ring. I haven't considered any support gem + active gem combinations with this yet, but I believe there is some unique potential with this ring.

Ralekesh's Impatience may signify the return of Discharge builds. Maybe. Discharge would have to be secondary.

Hmm, the expansion seems a bit vague. I guess maps in Elder controlled territory will be...different...somehow? And what does absorbing bosses do exactly?

It's a bit disappointing that all the active skills are necro related, but I'm sure a lot of people will love them. Although Unearth looks perfect for a Mirror/Blink summoner. I may need to revisit that in Abyss. Seems like Spell Cascade mimics Glacial Cascade? That could definitely have some potential. I have no clue how Ancestral Call is going to be different from Melee Splash, unless it can hit enemies behind you.

Regarding Volley; I guess that's what's being used in the video clips, but it seems odd that the projectiles start criss-crossing each other at random intervals. Unless that's the effect of another gem/item? It seems like that would just screw up targeting for no real reason.

The Shaper/Elder items look goofy, but better items are always nice. I wonder how rare they're going to be, and if the Shaper/Elder status is permanently tied to the item (not lost with currency/crafting).

That was my understanding. Otherwise the ring destroying gems would be pointless.

Gotta have special mods on regular Rares in small doses though (ie. Essences), else the core items get stale after 6 months because "you've found everything there is in the game".

Yeah the gems are a bit weird, really wish they didn't have those tags of "...not affected by Spell Dmg". As for the League, yeah I think they caved in to the players. Everyone always says Breach was the best League, so I wouldn't be surprised if Abyss was a spin on it lol.

That's exactly how I read it. Fingers crossed that Hungry Loop was already a "rolled item", meaning someone consumed CWDT already. If CWDT is preset, baked inside of the item, that's kind of a bummer, since lvl 20 CWDT is like over 4K damage right?

Yup, I was thinking Discharge builds for those boots too, but then it seems more logical for Channeling builds. Probably?

Probably harder, but my biggest question is how is it determined who wins? Is it just a one-time solo clear of the Map? Or will it be some huge community-driven thing where the Canyon Map needs 10,000 clears and then Shaper wins?

I noticed that about Volley too, maybe it's just visual aesthetics? Idk

Knowing GGG, those Elder/Shaped items will most likely be roll-off-able, like Essence mods.

Lvl 20 CWDT is 3272 threshold with a 6% more damage. Without this inherent CWDT, the ring would be asking for a nerf even before release. It's obnoxious, yes, but it is a form of check-and-balances. As I said before, the ring is essentially a 5L.

I also thought of channeling skills being more appropriate. Some, though, not all of them. In some twisted manner of thinking, that channeling skills could be a form of "charging" for Discharge. Honestly speaking, in the time it takes to generate 3 or so charges, you could have cleared a pack and generated the same if not more.

I would experiment with this line of thinking more, but I don't have the time. This release comes out during finals...

You're reading it slightly wrong. The ring "Consumes socketed support gems when they reach maximum level." This means that you have to stick in gems under level 20 and level them to 20 for the ring to "consume" them, so no corrupted level 21 gems.

Also, while the CWDT component, if it actually is baked in and not an example of a "consumed" support gem, is a bit of a down side it can be bypassed by several gems. Take, for example, Abyssal Cry + (Lesser) Poison + Vile Toxins + Void Manipulation. Since warcries don't work with Cast gems you've got a "free" 4L Abyssal Cry for poison/chaos builds.

I wouldn't say that. Unearth might be necromanctically themed, but it's neither a summon nor does it require a corpse. Likewise the trailer/teaser video showcases Volatile Dead being used with a melee build by having a bunch of great balls of fire trailing behind a Cyclone'r.

Body Swap is a bit more situational, however, but as the only movement spell that can scale damage without needing to be leveled up it gives casters a "one and done" movement skill similar to the weapon-based attack skills. It's likely also a bit safer for use in trigger-based movement chains than Lightning Warp is as Lightning Warp has a tendency to drop you down where the cursor was when it triggered, often in a pack of mobs, while having Body Swap auto-target a nearby corpse could make it less likely for you to be dropped into a pack of mobs.

Cremation, however... Meh. It pretty much requires that you drop Desecrate on packs before you can use it offensively, and defensive use doesn't seem particularly practical since only the initial explosion scales with corpse life. If the fireballs scaled with corpse life then I could see it being of use in CWDT chains.

As it stands, the "best" use for Cremation I can think of is a bit gimmicky. Drop a Body Swap mine at one point on a corpse, drop some Cremation mines on another point, drag mobs back towards the second point, and trigger all of your mines so that you go safely to one spot while the mobs run through a field of (three :-( )volcanoes.

Looked like some mobs were getting hit with multiple projectiles too, and that in turn makes me wonder if we might be seeing a limited return of "shotgunning."

Summoners, ranged casters/attackers, and so on could benefit from it as well, and the boots would definitely be an interesting mix with Conduit since every time you stop moving you'll buff party members who still are moving.

What's got me wondering is how the boots will interact with players with a maximum charge of 0. Will they lose a "tick" of charge generation? Will party members get the charge that they don't?

For that matter, if Lightning Warp mid-channel doesn't disrupt the channel, will it disrupt your charges with those boots?

The MMORPG and the IGN links above further explained and elaborated on the new stuff. Highly recommend those two links as the others so far have been a bit redundant (haven't been through them all though)

Very true, but even a baked-in lvl 10 CWDT would be enough imo. I guess we'll see. That ring is definitely very unique, which I love.

Oh f***! Those boots + Conduit keystone GG. Stand still and the entire party benefits lol

Spell Cascade sounds interesting in theory, but the number of skills its usable with is limited. It might make things interesting with Flameblast or CC-based Whispering Ice builds though, and I almost want to see just how badly it would screw things up if you mixed it with Lightning Warp, especially a high-cost Lightning Warp with another Cascaded Lightning Warp in that Kitava's helmet.

Ancestral Call seems like another interesting-but-niche support gem as well. Really it looks like it's going to be the Melee Splash for skills like Molten Strike and Wild Strike that don't really benefit from Melee Splash, and the IGN video that shows the Marauder generating 3 separate sets of Molten Strike orbs per attack, and regardless of number of nearby enemies, goes to show just that.

My only concern is that I have to wonder if it will act like Multistrike and "lock" the elemental selection for Wild Strike (and probably Elolemental Hit as well) down so that all three attacks are fire, the next three are cold, and so on. If Ancestral Call doesn't lock down element selection the way Multistrike does then that could be a very interesting combination for Elemental Equilibrium builds/mods.

For that matter I have to wonder how it will act with Frost Blades and enemy targeting.

Yoke of Suffering makes me wish that Grinding Gear Games hadn't cut down on elemental conversion a few updates ago. With things as they stand it would have gone great with a pair of Call of the Brotherhood rings to have 100% cold-based lightning skills that shock and freeze, especially with the upcoming changes to Lightning Tendrils and how that might mix with CWC and Icestorm. As it stands it's still interesting and should make the 5% freeze/shock/ignite nodes even more attractive since it'll potentially turn skills like Firestorm and Icestorm into reliably sources of low-grade AoE shocks.

White Wind, however... This one sounds like it might end up being a stinker. It's got potential for getting you close(r) to the dodge cap, but it doesn't do a thing for spell dodge. Likewise with some of the new shield mods the 100% increased cold damage isn't as much of a buff as it would've been 3.0. TBH it really sounds like something for a cold-based Flicker Strike build, perhaps with a Cast spell component, but I dunno.

The Arborix bow is another odd bird. That whole 8 seconds of melee ranged combat switching off to 8 seconds of far-ranged combat seems like it'll be a major pain in the ass for many players to deal with. I suppose it might work with mines/traps where you use them when Iron Reflexes is active and then switch of to normal ranged attacks when Iron Reflexes is on CD.

And on a final note, with all of the changes going in with 3.1 I have to say that it will be a shame if Detonate Dead doesn't get buffed.

Edit: On a final, final note, I sincerely hope that Grinding Gear Games can get the latency thing under control before the launch. The Turmoil event has been mostly fun, but it gets a lot less fun when the game desynchs thanks to latency issues that appear to be purely server-side or otherwise on GGG's end. Hell, I've got Lockstep enabled and I'm seeing desynch. o_O If they launch 3.1 with similar issues to those that plagued 3.0's launch combined with what's going on with the Turmoil even it's going to be a nightmare for their PR people.
Logic is the antithesis of faith, else why is it that faith defies logic while logic denies faith?
