For example, there was one portion of the Downfall trailer video where he seems to be teleporting backwards (a la Trick Down) before performing a Rapid Slash.

I'm guessing that the dodge buttons are used for his Air Tricks?
There is no such thing as a "Quick Time Event done right".
A game that has Quick Time Events is a "video game done wrong".

I wonder if they'll take a step ahead and emulate Lucifer's abilities into Vergil's Summoned Swords.

For example, make them explode or stick to the enemy for a while before detonating.

I have a felling that you'll only be able to fire them normally. That seems a little beyond Ninja Theory.

Most likely the dodge buttons will serve as trick up/down (maybe affected by the shoulder buttons) curious to see if Vergil will have an altering effect on Yamato as well.

Both dodge buttons have exactly the same effect. I doubt that L1 will do anything different from R1 in that regard.

Both dodge buttons have the same function. They're mapped to precisely the same action.

Most likely Trick Up/Down will take the place of the whip.
