Gotta admit, I would not be a fan if RE hadn't take the direction it did with 4.
I have to agree with this. I just can't get into the old REs with their camera and controls. Once I feel like I'm starting to get the hang of it, I get into one of those tense moments, get the controls confused, and then the camera angels flipping doesn't help.

RE4 reinvigorated the brand. It peaked with 2 and 3,CV,0 all had declining sales. RE4 brought it back to popularity and RE5 made the series even more popular by pushing close to 6 million units which is the best selling series to date not including RE5PC sales.
You're not a true fan for wanting the series to die.
Better to have something die in it's prime than to let it live only to become a mere shadow of itself.
That being said RE2 is the game that put RE on the map all RE4 did was shift the RE series in the so called "action horror" packed direction of the Gamecubes/Wii's "on rails shooter" disgraceful spin offs Operation Raccoon City being the latest of such fallacy even if it isn't a shooter on rails.
Capcom has left so many dangling plot threads in the "main" story it isn't even funny the fall of Umbrella being covered in a shooter on rails what a joke.
Favorites like Claire Redfield and Barry Barton will never be seen again Albert Wesker one of the more interesting villains died a crocks death in RE5 a mere shadow of his former self.
Re4 did change the general direction of RE and gained some "action shooter" fans but RE will never be a survival horror game were you were limping through dark and scary buildings constantly low on ammo not know when a dog would jump through the window and maul you and yeah Crapcom will be bring back the dogs but you can just rocket launch them off of you now kind of like punching boulders with your bare hands during a QTE.
And yeah despite all I've said I still may rent this game just like I have been doing since RE4 "put" Resident Evil on the map
