it's pretty obvious. demon souls sales were based on word of mouth and slowly growing popularity. Getting the korean/japanese version of demon souls in north america became so popular that they had enough incentive to release the north american version.
Dark Souls now has this entire fan base, along with being multiplatform. Not to mention there's been way more advertisements. It's easy to see.
