I wonder if we'll start the game with Lightning waking up.

Or if we'll start the game with another group of characters who's main focus will be waking Lightning up.

Depends how you define happy, if your looking for Lightning and her family to all be hunky doory skipping down side walks holding hands at the end with smiles on their faces and all their friends together, probably not, just not Toriyama's style, my bet would be on a more loose definition of happy, maybe Lightning has a choice to sacrifice her self for her family, she knows they will live on and carry on her memory and she is "happy" with this, and does so.

I agree with this. I feel like we will irreversibly lose a major character somewhere in the game, probably at the end - and Lightning is probably the best choice. A death to Snow or Serah would devastate the other and nullify the(ir) happy ending, so I feel like the death of only Lightning or Noel would pack the requisite punch.

I'm 100% sure Toriyama's definition of happiness is different than the majority of people, myself included, so no.
