The future for both is pretty uncertain, but interest among gamers in the Wii U is a lot higher. That plus its BC features make it a purchase for me.

In all fairness the Wii sucked in 3rd party support. The gap in hardware specs often left devs either making a gimped version or the game that was PS2/handheld quality or just not given a version at all. I can see why some people would be concerned about that.
Also the fact that it took them this long to make a console on par with the 360 and PS3. Sony and Mircosoft (well at least MS depending on Sony's financial future) already have their next gen systems line up that will over power the Wii U and will put devs right back in that rut having to make a gimped Wii U version.
A word to the wise ain't necessary - it's the stupid ones that need the advice
