Sales are a critical factor in determining a system's third-party support. That's why the Vita's third-party support is so dire.

Back in the 90s, people argued about game quality, not how much they sold according to Kotaku charts.

It's really annoying to see 12-year olds playing economics by stating stuff like "Vita sold less than the 3DS. Sony has fallen, therefore" like it's anything of their business. That is one of the reasons why stuff like Pokémon and Call of Duty got so far by changing nothing — the players don't want to play anymore.

inb4 vita sux, sonypony
inb4 how dare u insult pokmon

I'm also stunned how much people on wii u board and vita board are thinking sales. If Sony would be going down for real then we would see it in the news and local newspapers because company that big affects worlds economy at some level.

Same can be said of the nintendo. When nintendo has ¨lost 500 million¨ it probably just means that they got profits of 100m instead of 600m thus lost 500m.

Hmmm... Atlus, Nippon Ichi, Gust, Sega, Nihon Falcom, Ubisoft, Koei, Konami, Vanilla Ware and Namco doesn't really strike me as dire support, though.

Sales are very important. As was stated already several times, low sales detract from third party developers being willing to make games for the system.. And for games, low sales detract from developers being willing to make sequls
