I'm sorry if this question was asked many times, but does anyone know what the slot next to the game slot is for?

Truth is: we don't know. They may tell us down the line.
I'm clever, vaguely feminine, a vampire, and I wield Dice. PH33R.
The 3DS and PSVita are both outstanding systems. Wally the Equality Weasel says so.

It is supposed to be for accessories which have not been released or produced yet. If nothing surfaces for its use, it will probably be abandoned in any re-design that happens.
Think of the IR port from the PSP 1000. It was removed in all re-designs.
Japanese Import System Collection: PSP-3000 (White/Blue, Black/Red, Red/Black, Sky Blue/Marine Blue), PS3 (Scarlet Red), PS Vita (Cosmic Red, Sapphire Blue)

Currently that is unknown, it's the 'mysterious port' that Sony refuses to divulge any information about. Perhaps it's for a T.V Out function or maybe a UMD accessory. Just trying theorize some ideas, these are kinda unlikely.

I'm actually wondering if it's for a cord to connect to the PS4/Orbis. Perhaps the Vita is the controller for it?

I've heard rumors that there's plans to put an Active Shutter interface there, so the Vita can support 3D...

Strictly a rumor, of course.
