...after the price drop, that is.20000 yen ($215) for both the wi fi and 3G model? Even if we add in import costs (which would potentially washed out by taxes you'd probably pay, or do you still pay those as well?), at the very least, the 3G Model would still be cheaper.

You pay about 400$ usd for an imported console. I don't think it is worth it.

Buy Vita and then just get a skin. It will be way cheaper. You could also mess up several times and it would still be cheaper.

There is a markup on any import unless you are buying direct from a Japanese source.

Regardless, there is no reason to import when the device is region free.

AmiAmi actually had preorders for the silver Vita at cost (20000 yen) but it's sold out. Their prices are always good but their stocks are seemingly very small.
