I have had the luxury of playing with both and I don't mind the slight differences with the LCD. If I had to pick outright, I would lean towards my OLED but only because it was the first I owned so I have spent more time with it.
I tried to be open minded but I was afraid my brain would fall out.
I think the screen is nicer on the 1000, but the Slim's is also VERY nice, just not as saturated and vivid as the OLED. But as others have mentioned, without actually doing a side-by-side comparison either one will look amazing.

I have the new Vita, but I definitely preferred the OLED better. That said, the lighter weight and the BL2 bundle was too good to pass up (I was rebuying a Vita after a couple years of not having one).
I compared both vitas before I sold my old OLED vita. The screen was brighter on the old model and heavier. Also the ports were in inconvenient spot. The new LCD screen looks a bit duller but more natural and as an owner of both I am really liking the new vita better. You can turn up the brightness and its pretty close to the old model. Also I have big hands and the new grips on the back make for less mistakes in hitting the touch screen by accident. It's lighter and the battery does last a couple hours longer depending on what your playing and have running in the background. Plus I never used the 3G on it once on my old model and now these days you can just turn your smartphone into a hot spot to play on the road if you really want to. Well that's my review and I am 100% for the new vita. Way cheaper build but the pros out weight the cons. Thanks.
I have an OLED one but want to try out a Vita 2000 as well. I think I would prefer the nicer, higher quality screen of the 1000 over a couple hours of extra battery life of the 2000, but I can't say for sure since I've never actually held a Vita 2000 or seen one in person. Also the fact that the 2000 was designed to be more cost-efficient for Sony doesn't sit right with me, makes me feel like the 1000 is the more 'premium' Vita in a way.
On the other hand, I've also owned a PSP 1000 and 3000 in the past and much preferred the lighter 3000. People often complained about the 3000 feeling like plastic and being too light and flimsy, so who knows.
