What if instead of knowing what game you can buy at a reduced price (on Vita), you bought a mystery box that gave you a random game that you may or may not already have and you could get new games earlier than other people if you bought enough Loot Boxes from the sale?

No thanks. The chances of getting something I don't already have that I actually want would be far too slim. Would just be throwing away my money.

What if some games were locked behind Loot Boxes and the only way to get them was to buy several Loot Boxes for a chance to get that game but not guaranteed to get the specific one you want?

Would that work better?

GOG style where you would get a game you don't already own or shifty key site style where you get a key for a game that had 500000 keys given out free a few months earlier?

This. I'm trying to remember the last time I found something worth buying on PSN. I gave up on PS+ : "free" games and sales worth less than zero.

There are a lot of problems with this, such as getting games that you would have physical copies of already. Also about 75% of games that do go on flash sale are games I would never want to play anyway, so they would have to really up the quality of the games that could be picked/gotten from such a sale. Id also imagine companies would hate the second option you bring up because their game would probably rarely be gotten, which is not something you want for your game if you make it.

Maybe if it was just some optional thing where it randomly selected a game for you but you could still choose to purchase it or not would be fun, but having games be locked behind RNG would be a terrible business decision.

mystery games only work if its like Green Man Gaming where they give you 10 games for 5 dollars. Since then getting useless games and repeats don't matter.
