That's why the Switch, the portable home console hybrid style is the next evolution of "handhelds"...

The Switch is a handheld though, the chip gets downclocked when unhooked for portability & then back to standard CPU capabilities when plugged in.
it's like if Sony upclocked the chip in the Vita back to normal settings if you plugged it into the wall, since it's downclocked pretty significantly for portability.

The home console stance is to justify pricing the games at console prices, so they can afford console experiences, they wouldn't have been able to create those with a handheld pricetag.
I'm not against the idea though, if we can play better games on a handheld because of it.

Three words summarize the Vita pretty well:
Financial Death Spiral

or, as some prefer...

Proprietary Memory Cards

They were greedy and overconfident, and the Vita ultimately paid the price for it.
Hey, bud. You got a light? Nah, Bud Light.

There’s a reason they make tablet stands for the Switch. It’s simply too big for many people to hold comfortably even though it’s technically portable. That’s why it’s accurate to put “handheld” in quotes.

It’s also why I disagree that hybrid systems will make pure consoles obsolete. The size/storage/power balance will pretty much always be an issue. It’s why Laptops haven’t made Desktops obsolete. The beefiest laptops are so big/heavy they’re barely portable. The same thing would happen if you tried to make a portable console just as beefy as the top traditional console in every way.

But the switch has cheaper and bigger memory cards lol

If anything you'd be shuffling the Vita games more

Also lol digital

Depends on what games you’re playing. If you’re actually playing the console scale releases the games are pretty darn big relative to the size of commonly made SD cards. DLC/Patches can make this an issue whether you go physical or digital.

So it works out pretty equally. Vita has smaller cards but also smaller games. Whereas Switch has some pretty massive ones. But if you delete games as you beat them it’s not much of an issue either way. Neither system has a whole lot of games that don’t really have an end point.
