Reading the reviews, I noticed that the low-scoring reviews basically all criticized it because it doesn't play like other zombie FPS titles. They saw that the game is presented in a first-person point of view and criticized it for not being up to the standards of other FPS games in terms of ease of combat, aiming weapons, melee, etc., when they should have been reviewing it as a survival horror title, which is what it is.
A lot of reviewers did the same thing with Fallout 3 when it came out. They criticized for not being a good enough FPS when it's really an action RPG. Apparently if you take games from other genres and put then in a first-person view and include guns in the game, it causes reviewers' brains to short-circuit.
