I'm pretty sure I recall an interview saying that if they (Nintendo) couldn't sustain the hardware side, they wouldn't make any more software either. They'd rather shut down before going 3rd party

Lol, Mario went multiplatform a long time ago, on both Nintendo home consoles and handhelds.
