Third parties are reluctant to make a major release early in a console's lifespan because of obvious reasons, and even when the install base gets larger the game will likely become largely irrelevant as the console's library improves.
But first party is different - it can remain significant/successful for an insanely long time if it's a major release, meaning there's no real risk and it's a win-win. I don't understand why consoles still launch with awful game libraries. This console should have launched with Mario Kart U or something, that would have done wonders for Wii U. Thoughts?

My thought is that you're clueless, they aren't holding back software just because. Iwata admitted HD development was a bigger undertaking than they expected. When the games are done and up to Nintendo's high standard of quality they'll be released.
We need Castlevania: Bloodlines on Wii U VC.

Excellent game, but come on, lacks selling power. Mario Kart stays on the charts for... well, pretty much forever.

Except there is a risk of 1st party games needing to be rushed at launch. I don't think there have been any system that has released with a decent amount of first party titles.

F.T.F.Y., this game was clearly made to be played on PC. It pretty much doesn't count as a Wii U game.
