People were super-excited for 3DS at its first E3. Almost a year later it performed miserably. It's foolish to use any kind of hype (or not) these devices receive as a way of forecasting how it'll actually be received by the public.

After a steep price drop and that absurd "ambassador" apology yes the 3DS dug out of the grave.
Judging by sales of the N64 and GC, I think it's safe to project Wii-U sales. The casuals have left the building.
