I'm not saying that it would have been very easy for Nintendo to do it, but I think that if WiiU could render Wii games at 1080p/60Hz it could easily move more units (it would be a big reason for some gamers to upgrade their Wii)

I remember that before WiiU was released, I spent some time searching for a 'confirmation' of WiiU doing so. It was one of the few things I was hoping Nintendo to address

The Wii U isn't emulating the Wii, that's why perfect backwards compatibility is possible.

And how many extra units? I dont think many people will look for how well it plays its predecessors games when deciding what to buy. the fact that it plays them in the first place will win them over.
